  1. Started off working ok but this experience has changed and the experience is awful. In order to keep it, you have to be active, sending texts, making calls, receiving calls, ect , however, even after doing all this, my number if over 2+ years was reassigned. This number was given to medical providers, businesses, ect. Its impossible to contact a real live person regarding issues and only replies that are given, are automated, unexplained, robotic replies. This app doesn’t reasonably accommodate

  2. Went from 5 stars to 1 within less than a month. Now calls will not connect no matter if on data or wifi. When call does connect it sounds choppy and static like. Messages go thru about 5 mins later than what it says. It’s just gone downhill and fast. Switching to another calling app bc I cannot waste time on something that can’t be consistent or do what it is supposed to.

  3. App worked good for about a month now when I try to make a call it never connects I close the app and reopen it, still does the same thing. Download if you like wasting your time trying to make a call and never being able to. Doesn’t matter if im connected to Wi-Fi or my mobile data. I hit the call button it says connecting then immediately disconnects. Trash when you have calls to make and be timely, you will sure waste your time with this app.

  4. It’s a free app with too many ads but it is free, so. It gets glitchy and ALWAYS seems to have at LEAST one error everytime you use it. For example, today it’s not letting me delete ANY of the messages, calls or VM (which are ALL from spam they have been NON-STOP) so I guess it fixed the “Get a new number” option (of course when I get nonstop spam THATS the function error. Took 2 months) NOW I can’t

Awesome! Does exactly what it says it does. Absolute free. I’ve tried dozens of other “free” calling apps but those were all scams requiring you to sign up and share your email address and agree to all sorts of invasive permissions before you even open it, or force you to buy time after a trial period of 3-7 days, force you to play games & watch ads for more calling credits. Not 2ndLine. This app is simple, free, no strings attached. U can upgrade for $ but I only use the free version.

  6. It’s an overall good app that offers 100% free unlimited calls and texts within the United States. International calls are offered at an affordable rate per minute. However, there are some issues. This app can be sluggish and unresponsive, which seems to happen when the ads are pouring in. Also, the aforementioned ads can be frequent and intrusive. They may appear during a conversation, and will occasionally disconnect your call. If these problems can be remedied, then this would be a great app!

  7. I have tried many second line apps. but this one here is great. Very simple, semi basic. Non-intrusive. Good options to customize calls, texts and voicemail. Ads are always a small banner at the bottom of the app, never taking the full screen or popping up like other ones do. This is by far the best second line app I tried and still using. Been a month and still going strong. I’ve read other reviews and their issues and never experienced any issues so far. Incompetence maybe?

  8. I continue to use this app, although it’s just TextNow with a slight difference. It has never cost me a dime! The ads never interrupt a phone call or prevent making the call after you press the call button. Wifi is easier than bathroom. If they have a bathroom, they have wifi. if you know where to look. This app solves alot of problems. If you use it once a month you don’t lose your number. Also works well with sim cards. All the apps work this one is very reliable now.

One of the best free call/text services I’ve used so have kept it. You don’t have to deal with earning “credits” for non-international calls/texts. Doesn’t have those extra loud, full screen video ads with 30 countdowns. If you don’t have a connection, you get a missed call notification once the connection is back. I also love the security options with the pin, etc. There are occasional issues (for example; speech/call delays), but it’s free so I can’t complain.

  10. I mean it’s everything you want in a text app! You can text, voice call, video call, and send voicemails! You get not one but two numbers! My only problem is I can’t voice call. It always kicks me out of the app when I try to. Also I can’t send videos even if the video is short. Other than that this is an amazing app!

  11. This needs serious work. I have been using this app for a few month and decided to use it based on the reviews I read about it. I gave it a chance, but my experience has been very disappointing. The texting feature is extremely unreliable. You get reply from a texts up to 24 hours later. Phone calls never seem to make it through. But the ads seem to work fine and are extremely pervasive. The app espinds very slowly at time making texting and dialing a frustration. Will uninstall.

  12. I just started using this app after swapping from textnow, by far so much better than its sister app. One concern is that when im on a call at times, it will cut out and play music or drop calls.. but i also dont live in the best area for connection, even if you’re on wifi. Another concern is all the app pop ups when you are typing and just randomly in general. That was the major reason why i swapped from textnow to 2nd line. I would like more customization and it would be nice if the layout wasnt exactly the same as textnow. Definitely not a bad app.

  13. The app is ok but it doesn’t let me send videos to anyone. It allows to send photos but I’ve attempted to send an 11 second video and it claimed that the video was too long. Another thing that bothers me is that I have secure connection. Unlimited data and great wifi but unfortunately the calls either drop or I cannot hear anyone nor they can hear me. These small issues should be fixed. And the last thing is that there’s way too many adds. It would be a better app if these issue are resolved.

  14. So far, it seems to work alright, but I don’t like apps that attempt to hijack my phone. It acts like it’s the most important thing in my phone, and don’t appreciate that. I’ve also noticed that unless you let it be the default, then you have to keep the app open all the time in order to get calls and messages to come thru… Having apps open like that bogs down the system. Super Irritating.

  15. This app does have features of calling, texting, receiving voicemails, changing call or text notifications tones & more. It was great over the years I’ve been using it. Recently, I started having trouble being able to receive codes to verify a few accounts that are link to this line. Disappointed because I enjoy this app very much but I think it is time to delete & move on to something better.

  16. Has become completely unusable. Can no longer make or receive phone calls; it just times out then the entire program crashes. Can no longer send texts at all. Is it because the UI now has to load THREE TO FIVE ads per screen that continually move and act like popups fighting for space against your keyboard? I’d be inclined to think yes. Guess I’m switching programs.

  17. Excellent sound quality, free incoming and outgoing calls and texts over wifi and very reasonable plan rates. However I would have loved to rate you 10 but this app takes way too long to open and it doesnt respond most of the time. Im considering deleting it and finding another one that does work faster if this doesn’t get fixed.

  18. The silent ads were acceptable and easy to close, the ads all over the text area were annoying but tolerable… Now the ads are full screen, 3 of them all making loud sounds and force several seconds each before they can be closed. If I depended on this app, I suppose it would be worth it but I do not. Other services block the numbers so you cannot use it as a contract phone number.

  19. It’s okay, it’s free. But it needs improvement. Can’t upload voice files or gifs, I’ve searched to see if it has a contact search tool.. it doesn’t and I’ve been using this app for about 3 or 4 years now. Also, if you want to delete your phone account.. you can’t. Customer service will just inform you to just stop using it and uninstall, and that there isn’t a delete option. To this day my 2nd previous account remains there and it’s been half a year so far.

  20. i have had no bad experiences thus far from this app. granted it is an older phone. maybe that’s why I’ve not had ads play while receiving a call. they pop up while I’m sending texts but that’s generally it. the only issue i have is not being notified that the call is dropped as messenger does. I hadn’t known till my friend was quiet for some time on the other end. at times the audio isn’t too clear but it’s free so I’m happy about that.

  21. This app is a perfect 10, from convenience to all the features and options that it provides, it’s just like having another phone number to the same phone, it’s better than “text now” and all them other apps. You simply cannot beat it and I highly recommend it to all my friends. BEEN RECOMMENDING IT. And this here I’m just talkin about the free version, If you pay for it I can only imagine!!!!!

  22. Rezo dice:

It’s free so there are ads; of course. You can get premium service which I’m sure is worth the money. For a free service I find the ads minimally annoying which is saying alot. You do get alot of weird calls as the turn over rate of available numbers is most likely very high. I can give out my 2nd line number to clients, dates, or anyone else you don’t want to have direct access to your personal line. Once you’re done with it release the number for a new one.

  23. It does what it says it will do without being bombarded by ads. Plus it gives you the option to download and print your text messagea and call history the as often as you wish or not at all. You can text photos or files. It’s got a nice clean look that isn’t distracting and its NOT like one of those cheat on your S/O apps; this one is dignified and all for free, however, there is an option to purchase the low-cost premium package which i have not tried for myself.

  24. The app generally works well but there are some hiccups. For instance, when I add a number as a new contact, sometimes their profile picture will be used as their avatar, sometimes not. Sometimes it will be there for awhile and then, it’ll disappear from the app. The only way I’ve found to get it back after it’s disappeared is to delete the text messages and start over. That’s definitely suboptimal.

  25. Unreliable. I use this number for work. The notifications dont pop up so i changed the settings. Now, when someone calls, i get a notification of the incoming call BUT nothing happens when i click to answer so i miss the call. I have the free version but im not paying 9.99 for the paid version given all the issues i have had with the app. Too many bugs to be reliable.

  26. This app is wonderful. Almost everything is perfect and just like having regular communication on your phone. The only way they could improve it is to allow more options for notifications for different people such as allowing you to have a different notification for each person. Great app and I would recommend it for anyone who needs communication!

  27. Simple and effective for what it is for. It’s a It’s secondary line…hence the name 2nd line. It is free, you can only expect so much from an ad supported app. If you need to make a call and Wi-Fi is your only option, you won’t do better than this. Many of the low reviews are operator error anyhow (inactivity, ToS violations, etc).

  28. so far no major complaints. No dropped calls and as far as I can tell I haven’t missed any calls or texts as some other people have stated. I’m still using an older Samsung S6 active. I’m giving it four stars for now and after I’ve had more than a week of use I’m a come back and adjust that. Overall pleased so far. also the ad showing up in the text screen really aren’t that annoying. you can choose to ignore them or delete them immediately. I don’t find them intrusive in any way.

  29. Could use less ads, spam messages and calls. Times when connected to a WiFi network the calls drop. Incoming calls don’t pick up when phone is ringing but other than that it’s a reliable back up phone line. Affordable and get all your text messages with the option to send photos as well can’t wait to see what more this app can do.

  30. Suki Hhj dice:

I don’t have data since I just graduated hs and still struggling with money, this app is a life saver. I’m able to make text and calls (for free) which is surprising cause the other apps say you need to buy tokens etc to make calls and text. There are ads all the time but they’re at the bottom of the screen so you forget they’re even there. Definitely 5 stars 100% recommend.

  31. Messages don’t always appear on the app even though you get a notification one was sent. Closing/reopening doesn’t always help. I’m not a fan of ads in the middle of the chat (screen) but if you’re careful you can avoid them. There are also ads near your message box so beware when typing. Otherwise it has some fun features like display settings as well as specific ring & notification tones. Fairly good for a free app.

  32. I think this app is so cool! They do have ads but I don’t think they’re intrusive at all and the fact that you can make calls for free no points or credits needed is great and the company that made this app needs to get money somehow because they don’t charge a lot to upgrade so an ad here and there is not a big deal and they aren’t in your face or get in the way of using the app, you can change your number they offer multiple different numbers and you could change it at any time TY 2nd line!

  33. Joe G. dice:

I loved the app and loved using it. It was great. But now everytime I try to make a call it days no network connection try again. I definitely have network connection and I can even send texts with my 2nd line number and recieve calls it just won’t let me make calls. This is a very big problem for me, but I have no way to contact support as the contact us section on the app takes me to a “page not found”.

  34. The app gives a clear line to those who you need to reach digitally through network or WiFi. The answer to those who really like to keep a prioritizing list of call preference. To keep the possibility of someone finding out the information that some people feel are so important. The identity that gets taken and creates such a chaotic turmoil. It’s easier to just get a SecondLine!

  35. Updated Review: Contacting the developers of 2ndLine via emails with screen snapshots worked. The problem was solved and my 2ndLine is back up & running as it should be. It did take almost 24 hours to correct the situation, but I have no complaints. At least they did respond to my complaint immediately and got to work on trying to fix it with a positive result. Unlike some other apps (gaming) I won’t mention. So I’ve returned to a 5⭐ rating for this app.

  36. its a great app, but there is a huge drawback and that is the app does not have the attachment feature. you cannot attach ANYTHING! Admin: please tell me i am wrong and provide me with instructions. It just seems ridiculous. otherwise, there aren’t ads, the calls and texts are good quality. easy to use

  38. Lil Loca dice:

This app was the best ive tried by far . It gave me a variety of numbers to choose from and i was able to send and receive call+messages for free without having to watch annoying adds. Ive had this app on my phone and used it daily for almost a year , if not longer until one day its gone and im unable to re install it . (Storage isnt full) I assume its the app. The free version is only free for so long and then it starts giving ppl problems in many ways. .

  39. This app has saved me time and time again…. I love 2nd line. I have had so much positive communication and life changing events that were possible when I wasn’t able to afford an actual phone provider. Everything is always backed up as long as you use the app often and when it might change get it warns you ahead of time. Thank you 2nd line app creator!

  40. This used to be a great app but is no longer. The biggest push is constant full screen adds wanting you to upgrade the app for 9.95 per month. They even go to the extreme of blaming the apps problems on your phone saying that you don’t have enough free space. Ie: They say the app works best when it has 30% of your memory left or your smart phone discovered the app was free and started acting up so it won’t work properly. Sure it did. Moved on to an app that really works great. Uninstalling
