  1. Before the changes, this was a decent app. Now it won’t let me choose the card so I have to keep deleting cards so it goes to the right one. I’ve easily missed out on $20 worth of savings due to app not letting me select the correct card. I do a lot of driving and this was a good way to save some coins. Now I have lots of pending visits that time out and no savings. So this is the down side of the upside.🙃

  2. 100% would recommend! Everyone needs to buy gas, might was well get some cash back while your at it. The app is super easy to use, has a good amount of gas station partners, and offers tons of ways to redeem rewards, from a credit to your bank account to an Amazon card. Love this app. The only criticism would be the I wish more stations participated, but still easy to find one that does.

This used to be a really good app, I was able to get my cash back offers within a day or two. As a driver, this was extremely helpful. After the new year, nothing in the app is working. Why are my cards in my wallet duplicated 3 or 4 times? I tried to delete the extras, only to see them again the next day. None of my offers have been processed since the 4th of January. Shame, was a great app. Edit: waiting to hear back from support. If they are able to fix my issue, I will change review.

  4. App works okay(ish). The map feature is incredibly frustrating. When I open the map on my location, it brings me to another location. When I go to search my area, it searches another area nearby. The only way I can see deal within my general location is to rely on the mini map at the home screen. Or scroll down and search the list.

  5. It’s not as lucrative as the commercials make it seem, After several months and I’ve made about 30 bucks. (I fill up 1/wk) It’s still nice to get cash back at all so I keep using it and have shared it with my friends 🙂 It’s also very user friendly. I’ve never been confused (And that’s saying a lot). Take that back, I did get confused at first because when you cash out it takes a few days, however that’s not printed anywhere so I just thought I was being screwed over.

  6. DeWitt dice:

It hasn’t worked since September. Even before that, I only got about $20 of the $50 I should have. It always says they couldn’t match it to a sale. I just recently got an update saying you no longer have to claim offers, but that’s exactly what I had to today. They change the rules all the time, probably to confuse the user and ensure plausible deniability over missing rewards. The money they offer keeps getting lower while the data they collect increases.

  7. Edit, a year later: Really enjoing the app. Cashout process is so easy. Always looking for more added gas stations, as they are still somewhat limited. Great app, though. Still a few bugs in the program idea itself, but for the most part, the app is great! Not real user-friendly when trying to find deals when driving, however. The cash-out process is easy, but the fee isn’t very nice, Upside folks! And as always, keep adding those restaurant offers. They are great when traveling!

  8. Fairly easy to use. There are annoying nag screens that repeat everytime you open the app. The app also tends to direct the user to food places rather than gas stations. It would be nicer if the user could set those preferences, would reduce the time looking for just the item(s) you want. Cashing out the rewards is so easy, even an old guy can do it.

  9. Changing from 5 stars to 1 because of the huge increase in repeated failed submissions from stations I have used for awhile without issues. Removing the need to upload receipts was nice, but it makes it harder to deal with “Missing proof of purchase” several days later. It is definitely not the app it used to be. Temper your expectations if you use it, and take photos of receipts for the failed transactions.

  10. The app has completely stopped working with the grocery store that that I switched to because of the offers. It tells me ” missing proof of purchase” every time I use it. When I submit a help request they repeat the same thing. It worked for a while but hasn’t worked for at least 6 weeks. I’ve sent an email to the merchant and they redirect me back to upside. Looks like I’ll be cashing out and deleting the app.

  11. A Word dice:

Don’t like the update. Tried to give it a chance but it’s a no. It seems like more steps without the check in process. I need the check in process back. I’ve lost more money (because it didn’t register) because of it. Also it would be nice if you could save stores. I pretty much go to the same gas station (only pump leaving work on pay day) to save time. I always have to scroll through a list of gas stations nowhere near by.. It uses GPS but really it goes by your zip.

  12. App is great for gasoline. But don’t bother trying to redeem anything at a restaurant. Every time you submit for food purchase, they will find fault with it. Even though you did it, exactly as instructed. If I claim and offer on a certain date, and I eat there that date, then I obviously was there. But, to try an split hairs within minutes of a certain time frame is ridiculous. All the restaurant has to do, is set the time back, an hour on the credit card printer, and they never have to pay. 🙁

  13. Super easy to use, if you like earning money with having to do nothing this is how to do it. I like that you can open up the app and it shows where the nearest gas station that is linked with Upside and even directs you to it so you don’t have to change apps. Really neat feature. I did wish it gave a few or different options to cash out with but linking your bank was also easy too.

  14. Wonderful app, been using it off-and-on for almost a year now. Very intuitive, efficient, and a great way to save up some coinage in your virtual piggy bank ✅️ ! One thing that bugs me is the 3GB of storage space it’s currently taking up on my Galaxy A12. If there was a way to fix this issue without deleting important data, then the app would be perfect. 🙌🏽

  15. I really enjoy using GetUpside. I can usually find a station with at least a $.10 per gallon rebate and with the amount of driving I do it adds up very quickly. Now after using the app for a good while I have reduced my rating from 5 stars to 4 because they don’t have any provision to change your email address. I’m going to have to start a new account instead.

  16. The program is great and I love the cashback. It builds rather quickly. However I find that it has trouble loading on the “Find offers” page and sometimes won’t load at all. I’ve tried everything from force closing to rebooting the phone with no luck. I have this app on a new Google Pixel 6 and it can be quite frustrating. Please fix this bug and I will gladly give 5 stars.

  17. Levi G dice:

Pretty decent but with annoying bugs. 2 annoying bugs… some gas stations you have to upload the receipt and some you don’t. Going into the gas station for a receipt can be annoying. The most annoying bug is how the bonus are applied to your account. Sometimes your bonus can be retroactively applied to a small fill-up if that was still processing even though it was in the past.

  18. What seems too good to be true isn’t. It’s really just as simple as finding the deal you want, confirming it in the app, and the money comes right to you. The only reason I don’t give this a 5 is because there are times when the app doesn’t load. I’ve had it happen where I’ve checked my internet connection in addition to other apps to see that they’re working, but Upside sits there loading and nothing comes up. Otherwise, once you link you’re credit card, it’s effortless to get your rebates.

  19. Heath B dice:

Great app to make some extra money for making purchases you would already make anyway. I use the restaurant cash back option more than the fuel, but I’ve earned a significant amount on each. The only negative feature is the bank account cash out. I’m not providing my bank account username and password to anybody. I use the gift card option which is very easy, but it would be nice to have the ability to put it into my account without surrendering my privacy/security.

  20. I fill up 4 times a week. A few cents here, a few there. It REALLY adds up. So helpful. Over time, I’ve found my favorite 4 or 5 stores, that use Upside and already start with lower prices. It doesnt matter if I’ve only used a quarter tank since last fill-up, I check Upside when I’m close to one of those and go ahead fill up. Upside makes it so easy, it’s honestly silly not to use it. Like leaving money on the counter. But if you want to keep tipping Big Oil, that’s on you!

  21. Overall my experience has been good. I have had issues with the fuel prices being different in the app versus what is on the gas station sign. The other issue has to do with the app not recognizing that I am at a specific location. It doesn’t happen all the time, but makes it so I have to upload the receipt instead of just checking in. Just a couple of minor inconveniences in the grand scheme of things.

  22. Dawn M dice:

Update: The last 2 months have been a lot better. It really is a great app! It takes a minute but it eventually adds up in cash back. After using it for some months now, it’s hard to get the cash back. You upload receipts it tells you it’s missing info. I have about 7 to that we’re not processed. Most of the times when you claim a offer, then drive to the gas station the prices are way more than what the app states.

  23. It appears to want to be good, but when they shaft you for the cash-back on the fourth use even with their easy check-in partner station, things start to look nefarious. I will probably have to delete the app and not recommend it if the transaction fails to process correctly. I mean seriously, how can it not complete at a station that simply requires you to check-in through the app and choose the card that you will be using. ~Concerning…

  24. Other than a few transactions having “issues” with no explanation in the app, I thoroughly enjoy it. I mean, I’m gonna spend the money already on the gas that i NEED, so why not get some of it back through this app. If you don’t drive a lot, it’ll take some time to earn, but every penny counts. Also, i haven’t tried the restaurant deals but i can see that add up quickly. Thank Upside!

  25. I love this app!! Easy to use. Not a scam, no hoops to jump through or haggling to get your cash back. You check in to your location to get gas, choose which card you’re using (you can add multiple credit/debt cards), pay using your card, select paid on this app and you’re done. The cents rack up quickly! There’s loads of ways to cash out, if you want cash back in an account or gift cards. It’s awesome!

  26. Upside has recently gone to this check in thing when you get to the station. Then they want you to tell them which card you will be using. I do NOT like this! Sometimes I forget to check what the pop up, that shows me what is not showing up, says is not showing up. And I get rid of my receipts. Now I am saving them in case of an issue. Overall, this is a great app. Especially if you are using the Fetch app also, which gives you a ton of points for 30 plus receipts from Casey’s!!! Double YES!!!

  27. I initially had high hopes for this app, as I frequently travel and thought it would be a useful tool. However, my enthusiasm was short-lived as I soon encountered issues with the remaining 7 out of the 8 claims made. Despite providing all the necessary information, the app repeatedly tells me that I was missing “proof of purchase”. While I am willing to upload receipts, it doesn’t make sense that the app doesn’t require it for every claim to mitigate the missing proof of purchase message.

  28. It was a great app at first first month and a half amazing didn’t take much to get money back got good amounts. Lately though it’s taking a super long time and they’re constantly finding issues when a perfect photo of a receipt is submitted. Super frustrating when almost all of my recent receipts have been rejected when it shows everything that they require.

  29. FRAUD!!! I’ve been using this app for several months now and I get gas every week and every week I upload everything asked of me and make no mistakes on my end. Not one time have I ever gotten cash back with out “issues” have to argue with “customer service” for a week on top of providing screen shots and they never give the amount advertised and constantly make excuses how it’s an error on my end when there’s not!!! They’ll blame the merchant, my card, the receipt and it’s complete BS!!!

  30. Unable to use it because theres nothing nearby. The closest deal is a restaurant 9 miles away. The “savings” would be less than the cost of driving there or the charge of a delivery fee. Im only giving it a low rating because of the way this app is advertised (radio). It doesnt inform you that this program only works at a small amount of places…

  31. Update: the first 4 transactions I did I never got credited for. But after Upside did an update some transactions have gone through. Updating from 1 star to 2 star. It says that it usually takes 2 to 4 days to process and give credit. I’ve been using the app for over two weeks now, made about a dozen transactions. None have gone through yet, every one is marked processing. As far as I can tell it’s just a worthless app that’s probably tracking my transactions.

  32. Update, still losing alot of money with transaction errors on their part. They used to get me not submitting properly but then they started the new feature “check in.” With the check in feature, you don’t HAVE TO SUBMIT a receipt so it’s all on them. There are too many “expired no proof of transaction” errors. I don’t get the money back as I should have. Unless it’s convenient don’t go out of your way.

  33. The payback is definitely worth it. If you’re not the type of person to save change, then this isn’t for you, but the small change in price makes a difference over time. Much different than other apps in which you can withdraw the money saved at any time with most any amount. Only issue is that there aren’t many gas stations in my area that use upside. In my experience it would be gas stations like speedway, bp. You probably won’t find a gas station with a cheaper price than upside.

  34. I appreciate Upside – it does what it says it will do. I just have two ways in which it could be improved. First, there really don’t seem to be a lot of options in my area at which Upside can be used (and of course I realize this isn’t necessarily Upside’s fault). Another criticism is that when I was on a long trip, where I was very unfamiliar with the towns along the way, using Upside for the nearest deal on gasoline often caused Upside to get me to backtrack on my route.

  35. For the most part this app is fantastic. However, scanning large receipts is difficult-the developers need to work on a more user friendly scanner such as the one for the Fetch app. For large grocery receipts it is incredibly difficult to focus the image enough on the 2nd and subsequent photos to be sure the required overlap is present. It takes MANY tries and is very frustrating.

  36. Pretty awesome. Definitely saved money with it. Not always available where I am though and sometimes doesn’t register somewhere I’ve gone. Edit: Haven’t had those problems in awhile. As long as your in a decently populated area there is usually something within 5 or 6 miles. Linking your cards so you don’t have to fuss with receipts is nice. I’ve got about $25 back over the last 6 months (not always remembering to use it).

  37. When I first started using the app I was impressed and enjoyed it but now I’m getting frustrated! My last 4 claims didn’t go through nothing changed still processing then they tell me they have no record! I don’t even shop at these stores I do it for the app and the cash back. I’ve tried contacting support I get the same email all the time with no help what so ever. Until the issue is fixed I don’t see myself using it any longer or sharing it.

  38. Katy dice:

Update: Still glitches but less. I appreciate there are more gas stations in rural areas than there were just 3 months ago. I love the check in & not having to scan receipts. Original review: Nice app. There’s occasionally a glitch and I don’t get Cashback at stations when I check in. Customer service is slow to respond and I don’t get credit. So I look for stations with our that option. Otherwise it’s a good app.

  39. Upside is legit, the minimum payout is $15. My only complaints are that I wish there were more stores participating, though I have a strong feeling that’s not fully on the apps end. I also wish there was a better way to get the reward than uploading a receipt. Overall, I do recommend the app and have saved money using it, which is vital for some families during these times of inflation.

  40. I’ve been using it since near the end of May with the prices of gas being so high. It’s been nice to use and it adds up fast just like what everyone else is saying. I’ve only had one issue recently with the load time being ridiculously slow and bad. I sat at the pump for a good 4 or 5 minutes to wait for it to load. I gave up and of course it loaded immediately while I was getting gas. That was beyond frustrating! Fix the slow loading. I’ve got precise location on my phone for this app.
