A video app made just for kids
YouTube Kids was created to give kids a more contained environment filled with family-friendly videos on all different topics, igniting your kids’ inner creativity and playfulness. Parents and caregivers can guide the journey as your kids discover new and exciting interests along the way. Learn more at youtube.com/kids

A safer online experience for kids
We work hard to keep the videos on YouTube Kids family-friendly and use a mix of automated filters built by our engineering teams, human review, and feedback from parents to protect our youngest users online. But no system is perfect and inappropriate videos can slip through, so we’re constantly working to improve our safeguards and offer more features to help parents create the right experience for their families.

Customize your child’s experience with Parental Controls
Limit screen time: Set a time limit for how long your kids can watch and help encourage their transition from watching to doing.
Keep up with what they watch: Simply check the watch it again page and you’ll always know what they’ve watched and the newest interests they’re exploring.
Blocking: Don’t like a video? Block the video or whole channel, and never see it again.
Flagging: You can always alert us to inappropriate content by flagging a video for review. Flagged videos are reviewed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Create individual experiences as unique as your kids
Create up to eight kid profiles, each with their own viewing preferences, video recommendations, and settings. Choose from “Approved Content Only” mode or select an age category that fits your child, “Preschool”, “Younger”, or “Older”.

Select the “Approved Content Only” mode if you want to handpick the videos, channels and/or collections that you’ve approved your child to watch. In this mode, kids won’t be able to search for videos. The “Preschool” Mode designed for kids 4 and under curates videos that promote creativity, playfulness, learning, and exploration. The “Younger” Mode allows kids 5-8 to explore their interests in a wide variety of topics including songs, cartoons, and crafts. While our “Older” Mode gives kids 9 and up the chance to search and explore additional content such as popular music and gaming videos for kids.

All kinds of videos for all kinds of kids
Our library is filled with family-friendly videos on all different topics, igniting your kids’ inner creativity and playfulness. It’s everything from their favorite shows and music to learning how to build a model volcano (or make slime ;-), and everything in between.

  1. I have the app on both my phone and our smart TV. It is a great collection of kids videos for all ages. I do have a suggestions. For phone, it is simple to slide the bar back to the beginning, but I’d like to see a restart or start from beginning button for TV app. For phone, I’m able to subscribe to channels but not while on the TV app. For TV app, if the highlight could be another color or bolder, it would be easier to locate.

  2. Perfect app. Intuitive to use for little kids, and super easy to manage for parents. I was having so much trouble getting Amazon kids to work for my 2yr old for long car trips, then i found this. I just pin the app and he can easily navigate without getting stuck. I use the mode where I choose exactly what videos are available, add his favorite channels, e.g. super simple songs, and he’s set without my worrying at all about what he might find.

  3. App is great but a a fee minor changes could make it so much better. Would be great to be able to subscribe to certain channels our kids prefer. The autoplay just recently stopped working even though it shows that it’s on. Please add the option to be able to restart the video to the beginning without having to press the back button 100 times. Please make the highlighted video more noticeable when selecting a new video to watch.

  4. This app does the most infuriatingly annoying thing on Android TV: it will NOT actually close the app when you hit the home screen button. Instead, Android TV will continue to play the video in the background with the volume on while you are on the home screen. Opening other apps means that you will be using that app with the volume from YouTube kids still running. Google, just close the damn app. If I want the video to continue running in the background, make that a menu option.

  5. Decent, but needs some improvement. It’s nice to have more control of what my child sees on YouTube. The parental controls are good. The video controls are lacking; rewind is a 10 second rewind, there is no option to start from the beginning. If you go back to watch a video that you had already watched halfway, you have to watch from the last watched part. The select highlight on the tv is white on pale blue, it is not easy to see.

  6. Unable to enter my birth year on lock screen. When I press on the data entry points, no keypad appears, so I can’t enter my birth year. Unable to activate app. Edit: it turns out that the data entry keypad is only visible in landscape mode. This is a terrible user interface, there is no clue that there is something off screen in portrait mode which is the way 90% of people will use it on their phone. Upgrading to two stars.

  7. Would be a five star rating, because my daughter loves it. However, it has stopped working. Freezes on the red screen after the opening music. I sent a message to the developer, and have not gotten a response yet, but it’s still pretty early. Hoping this can be fixed soon, as allowing her to navigate regular Youtube can be a harrowing experience. I will edit this review upon bug fix.

  8. I really appreciate the reasons why this app was created but there some functionality issues that prevent us from moving over to YT Kids. The app can only be used horizontally / landscape mode. Which makes it very hard to search for content. When looking at and for content there isn’t a way to make favorite videos or subscribe to a channel. Or at least I didn’t see an easy way to do this. Additionally the In App music and animations upon opening are a bit annoying.

  9. I like how there’s no ads. My problem is that I can’t create playlists or save videos offline. I have two toddlers and I would like the flexibility of letting them watch playlists that I made. Also, there needs to be an option to save videos offline so when we’re traveling without access of mobile data, I have videos for them to be entertained.

My little one loves YouTube Kids! She’s nearly 2 and can navigate the app pretty easily. The videos are age appropriate. She loves the songs and videos! I’ve been noticing that she’s learning a lot from the app, which is great! She sings along with the songs! Her favorite is Wheels on the Bus! For example there’s a lot of videos showing things like what firemen and women do, etc. So she won’t be afraid of helpful people who might look scary in uniform to such a small child. Highly recommend!

  11. Great app that I can trust my children to be on without coming across anything inappropriate or changing any settings. Its very simple for them to use independently, making it easy for them to switch videos and remain on the app without accidently closing it out, saving us from many meltdowns. My only problem is how easy it is for them to cast their videos onto other devices. There have been many times baby shark has abruptly appeared on my smart TV in the middle of my shows! Lol

  12. The app is automatically disabling itself after approximately 30 minutes of playback. We are in the US, where the app is available, but it’s triggering the automatic disabling as if we are in an unsupported region. There’s no obvious way to fix the behavior, which turns my son’s favorite app into a neverending source of frustration for us. Google, fix it.

  13. Life saver app. My 2 year old never talks so we were afraid there was something wrong with her. Come to find out she can name all her ABCs, numbers, shapes, and animals if we show her on our phones. This is thanks to the contents on this app because it definitely wasn’t us that taught her. Usually when I cast to my TV, the app would play the next videos automatically but now it stops after which each for some reason.

  14. So easy to use! My 2 year old is able to work it by himself! I love how I am able to block certain shows and channels I don’t want him watching and it shows only age appropriate videos! You can also view what they have been watching. I also live how there are very very few apps! A lot less than regular YouTube. Every ad that does pop up is completely age appropriate, usually toys or kids shows. We probably only get 1 ad every other day or so.

I LOVE this app! It’s got most of my favorite YouTubers on it, and I also love the timer feature! (If you didn’t know there’s a little lock thing that lets the parents type in a code or do a math problem and they can set up a timer for up to an hour! That’s a long time!) Also, the ads are so short and you basically never see them! I do wish there was a way of downloading videos though.

  16. This app works when it works. It is terrible when it doesn’t work. It will randomly delete/dump the offline videos. I’ll go somewhere and there are no offline videos saved for car rides. When I set the timer, if you don’t click it exactly right, it will not initiate the timer. Then it doesn’t turn off. Ever. The kids version has the ability to cast to different screens. If my kid hits cast, it will cast. This turns on our large tv. I’m convinced it also disables the timer. It’s very frustrating

My toddler loves this app, which is a shame because it could be a lot better. Heck, the platform could be a lot better. Recommendations could uss some tuning as low-quality videos are so numerous making good quality ones hard to find. I would like the ability to block certain channels. There are non-English-speaking ones that get suggested to my kid all the time. I don’t see how that is useful or educational. The ‘cast’ button is too prominent. My kid hits it too often by accident.

  18. I have a kids profile set up with approved content only, which I was gradually adding to over a couple of years. Now the search function does not work for finding videos to add. Deleting and reinstalling the app did not help. The proposed solution in the help files is to delete the profile and start over. I would have to search for and re-approve probably over a hundred videos! I don’t have the time for that.

  19. Great app, but I just wish that when selecting a video the hovering color isn’t white but another color. It becomes so difficult to know what you’re actually selecting if the color and background of the video are both white. Other than this, great content.

  20. KatMarie dice:

Why do I have to open the app for auto play to work? Why can’t I just turn on auto play and leave the app? If I gotta go back to the app to start the video, then it’s not auto play. And why can’t I put videos in a playlist queue? It’s annoying having to open the app to play the next random video, it’s even more annoying that I can’t pick what I want to watch and put in a list. This app is underdeveloped compared to real youtube.

  21. Natalia K dice:

Can’t even create an account. It’s very difficult to sign in for a parent. It should be more or less straightforward, and not that I spend evenings trying to figure it out. It asks for a password from Google account, and it says Incorrect password. I already recovered my Google account several times with the same old password, still no way for me to sign in. Maybe it should be more ways to sign in??? Without signing in I can’t block any videos daaaa wow 2022

  22. This is a great app for my kids. Especially for younger children you can change the age level but on YouTube, children can search anything. The only negative is it can load slowly at random times. My kids are on it all the time so this is the best!

  23. TV version, hard to spot marking around video, you almost do not see that white narrow marker?! Blocking is working OK, still initial rating of many videos is problematic and Google shod deal with this better. What’s being served by engine is pretty terrible quality, and great channels you subscribe to, you expect to see more of those videos, but there are none? Why we cannot like as well, besides block? Still good app overall as you are still able to share YouTube videos you chose with your kid

  24. 5 stars so this stays on top. DO NOT DOWNLOAD!! I’ve been using this for my kid for 3 years now, and it’s been nice. But this week, after years, I notice it has ads!!!! I only downloaded this app to avoid the unnecessary ads in YT, which is better for kids. THEY DO NOT NEED ADS!!!

  25. The app stop working on smart TVs like Sony and Samsung regularly. As a parent, the search does not work on mobile app to search and find videos. Some approved channels does not show up for kids…. It is a terrible app. Google does care to fix all these bugs probably because it is not a money making app

  26. This app is wonderful. I only wish that there was a way to lock the screen with the videos on, my 1-year-old sits there and zooms in and out and everything on my screen and take screenshots constantly. So I wish I could just lock the screen at least well it’s on the video so that she could watch the video for 5 minutes or whatever while I’m finishing up whatever I’m doing otherwise she gets mad and throws my phone and yeah that’s pretty frustrating

  27. I created a preschool account. Searched for educational content. Was absolutely appalled and disgusted with what was accessible! Spent hours blocking videos and channels. Realized that was hopeless. Looked for a way to block EVERTHING, and then just add the videos I wanted. If there is a way, I didn’t find it. Far too risky to allow any minor to use this app. Cannot believe that Google allows this. Uninstalling.

  28. GiZee Gis dice:

This app is good to keep the kid busy with only kid’s contain. However, my issue with this app is how it doesnt let you set the language preference. I speak French and would prefer the app to suggest French contain to my kids, but instead they get indian contain which I don’t know how google keeps doing that. Please google add language option in setting

  29. Pavel dice:

Overall, the app is great, but I cannot download a video while watching it – I need to go to the home screen to press 3 dots on the video preview. Very frustrating!

  30. Like being able to have a separate app for my son that doesn’t interfere with my history or recommendations but the inability to favourite specific videos or create playlist is seriously limiting to the point of making this app a bit pointless.

  31. Great app! Thank you guys for doing this for the little ones. And we hopes get your stockings stuffed with all the goodies! and that you have all the Christmas fun! We were afraid our child would see something obscene. Even some of the commercials were ugly, dirty and mean. We promise – To flag the unusual, immature or sick. To keep our kids away from adult content and Dangerous tricks. Thanks again for your Kids app. It makes us a very “Appy” family. Merry Christmas The Family

  32. Needs to improve, while the app itself is useful for my kid to watch. It almost always has an issue connecting to the smart tv. If this is resolved would be a good app.

  33. I hate the fact that you have to sign in( there should be an option for you to not have an account) and when you do get on it is poorly organised. Also, if you select an age when signing in, the app is very biased. Overall this app is not worth it.

  34. Dina dice:

Bad for kids because the feature to select own videos for your kids doesn’t work like it should. You can only choose videos provided by what youtube thinks is good for your kids. Impossible to choose the videos yourself. And some other issues like showing videos French spoken and other languages that my child can not understand. Useless app, I don’t recommend.

  35. Sam S dice:

I like the app & how I can limit what my kid watches, but a few changes would be nice. I wish videos were sound balanced so when it changed from one video to the next I don’t have to keep telling my kid to turn down the sound! There are videos on here that have very high pitched squealing voices that shout the whole video long. After turn it down it’s still very loud & hurts adults ears, I cannot imagine how much damage is being done to young children’s ears when they’re fragile at young ages.

  36. Ace dice:

My children have always enjoyed this app. I always believe there’s room for improvement, so Im giving it 4 stars. Great app! Love that I can set it up show videos catered to their specific age group. Wish I didn’t have to use landscape mode to enter information.

  37. The app is great, my baby loves it. I just find it frustrating to see random videos popping out like different language or channels that we don’t like (the ones we blocked). I’m rating this kind low after seeing a lot of parents reporting the same issue but nothing is happening.

  38. My child listens to a 10 hour song upload every night to go to sleep to. Recently, there have been ads after about 30 minutes that wake her up. We’ve never had this issue before and it defeats the purpose of having a 10 hour song play if its going to have ads and wake my kid up.

  39. Jo M dice:

My 2 yo grandson is obsessed with this app. He has learned to swipe out any calls or msgs I receive while he is on my phone. He loves the “car on phone” videos, thats aka for videos with people opening up packages of toy cars and then playing with them. They are normally in a foreign language, but he does not seem to mind. He can watch the lego toys be put together for hours and hours. I personally am unable to enjoy this form of entertainment, but since he loves it, I will amuse him.

  40. I like this app, it’s really nice and approaite for kids. But I wish there was more music to listen too. The ones on here are cool, but… I really want some Kraftwerk on here. Like radioactivity, the robots, metal on metal, autobahn, music non stop, dentaku, pocket calculator, trans Europe express, abzug, and more.
