Samsung Voice Recorder is designed to provide you an easy and wonderful recording experience with high quality sound, while also offering playback and editing capabilities.
For your everyday needs, we developed a “Voice Memo” recording mode so that you can convert your voice to text (Speech to text).

Available recording modes are:

[STANDARD] It provides pleasantly simple recording interface.
[INTERVIEW] Two microphones located on the top and bottom of your device will be activated to capture you and your interviewer (or interviewee)’s voices, it also displays dual waveform accordingly.
[VOICE MEMO] Records your voice and then convert it to on-screen text, so called STT.

Before starting the record, you may configure
□ Directory path (If external SD-card is available)

During recording,
□ You can reject incoming calls while recording.
□ BOOKMARK the points you want to mark.
□ Background recording is also supported by simply pressing HOME button.

Once saved, these actions below can be performed:
□ Both mini player and full player can be launched from Recordings LIST.
* Built-in sound player supports media controls such as Skip muted, play speed and Repeat mode.
□ Edit: Rename and Delete
□ Share your recordings with your friends via Email, Messages, etc.

* Not Support S5, Note4 Android M-OS
* Available recording mode depends on Device Model
* This is Samsung Device’s Preloaded Application which is pre-installed app.

The following permissions are required for the app service. For optional permissions, the default functionality of the service is turned on, but not allowed.

Required permissions
. Microphone: Used for recording function
. Storage: Used to save recorded files

Optional permissions
. Nearby devices: Used to get Bluetooth headset information to authorise the Bluetooth mic recording function

  1. I updated the app days ago only to discover that you have removed the edit option. There is now no way to edit. This is nonsensical. To record and then need to correct something, or to to remove some unintended background noise, is no longer possible because there is no longer an edit feature! Unbelievable! Which programmer thought, “Hey, that’s a good idea! Let’s make this app worthless for doing serious recorded spoken content.”

Warning, while it works quite well, if you are recording music for rehearsal purposes, this app for some ridiculous reason records music one semi-tone higher than the actual key! I’ve turned up at rehearsals having learnt a song a semi-tone higher than it actually is – we finally worked out it was this ridiculous feature in this app…

Used to be amazing, then got back on today after a busy month to find out it had auto updated. They’ve decided to get rid of your uncategorized list, so now it’s just “All Recordings” or what you have in categories. So inconvenient. Also, whatever y’all did made the sound messed up as all hell. I can’t hear any of my recordings anymore. Two years of recordings down the drain. Deleting soon. What the hell was wrong with the old version that you decided to screw things up?

  4. It was good, very useful and great for recording info for my jobs and reminders. Now its recording my calls when leaving voice-mail for clients. This is a problem. Don”t know what happen but this is crazy. I had no idea it was doing this till I went to hear one of my recordings and then I saw all of the others on there. I think I will Uninstall and give it 1 more chance.

  5. I love the convenience of voice recorder. My issue is that sometimes (often) the app will just start playing some random thing that I have stored in the app. I’m not even required to be touching the phone for this to happen. I would remove and reinstall it, but I would lose all my tune recordings stored there. Thoughts?

You have mentioned in your “permission” section of the settings that “read phone” is not mandatory, the app is usable although some features will not work! But, if I deny any permission specifically “read phone” the app will close. This is in direct contrast to any app development guideline specifically in this case, because “read phone” for a voice recorder app is absolutely not needed. You are using it to detect and reject calls. I don’t want it! Let me use the app without the permission!!!

So, my S22U originally came with a voice recorder; all droid-run smart phones I’ve owned have had one going back over a decade now. But some time recently after an update, it disappeared not just off my homepage tile, but from my app list entirely. I had to go in & manually DL this app. What were you thinking? And it changed; its not longer as simple to use or locate older files I’ve maintained for years. Please STOP “fixing” things that don’t needed fixed, and STOP taking away our useful apps!

  8. The app works really well, but i have two chief complaints. 1) Even when elocuting well, the speech-to-text will often misinterpret what is being said and does not adequately predict what is being spoken about. 2) When using Bluetooth tech ( i.e. headphones) the microphone in the headset is not being used which is annoying due to having to speak into your phone directly regardless. Other than this, this is the best app I’ve found to help my writing, notes, etc.

  9. Easy and intuitive to use. No problems so far. I will make sure to the back-up save the files elsewhere as others have had problems where an update has deleted them. Apparentally some people have had issue with the file type. The sound file format is .m4a, which is not really a problem for me. You can definitely play this file type in other apps and on your computer in many conventional editors and players. Perhaps the file format people had problems with was something else, and the .m4a is the solution the programmers used. That might be why some of the users’ files disappeared or were no longer recognized by this app. Anyway, as I said, I’ve had no problems so far, but I will update my review if that changes. (Also, backing up files is a good practice to keep, in general.)

  10. I needed a voice recorder on the spot at work, & when I went to the Play Store, I noticed this one was already installed. I put my phone in the middle of the table and recorded 38 minute and 44 minute conversations. My screen times out after 10 minutes – didn’t miss one second of either recording. I immediately plugged in to my office computer and transferred the files, and the sound quality is fantastic, including the voices coming over speaker on a conference call. A+.

  11. I used stereo and interview mode combined and audio quality was horrible. The volume kept going from soft to loud and back and forth. It sounded garbally and underwater. Galaxy Note 10 plus. It also has an annoying pop up when the sound that records is too low. So, you see an annoying pop-up every time there is a pause in whoever is speaking. That’s why this is a definitive 1 star app. The one thing it needs to do it, does very poorly and very annoyingly. The UI and graphics are great.

  12. The app itself is well designed, nice features, easy to use. But where the app falls very short is when I want to use the recordings outside of the app. The app records in .m4a format and when I try to import them into any audio editor I either get an error or it just won’t even do it. In the app, everything is fine, but even playing back the file, half of the audio is missing. This is a problem I cannot have in my workflow.

  13. This app was okay until it failed catastrophically. It creates huge mp4 files even if you set it to record low quality sound, so I usually upload them to cloud storage or send them to myself as attachments. For some reason, 90 percent of my last recording was wiped out when I sent it as an email attachment. There’s a 25 minute flat line in the middle of the audio file. Surprise! So that work is down the drain.

  14. Great app for recording. I use it when I’m messing around on my guitar and come up with a good riff. The sound is clear. Mostly reviewing because others are complaining about the ‘locate nearby devices” / location permissions. It’s probably for Bluetooth connections, like headphones, that you can listen to your recordings through . Regardless, your phone probably has a ton of apps that do that all the time anyway. Your phone itself is a beacon. If “they” want to find you they already have.

  15. C T dice:

The biggest drawback for me is that my cell phone screen needs to be active for it to record. Once my screen times out, it does not record what I’m recording but the app is still running. Needed info from meetings/trainings were not recorded. It was misleading b/c I saw the app was still running. But when I did the play back, there was no sound at the point when my screen timed out. I have to keep touching my phone to prevent it from timing out. I don’t have the option to keep the screen on.

  16. This app doesn’t seem to keep my recordings after I finish recording them. The file is there but there are no visible sound waves, and the sound just stops at a certain point, almost as if I stopped recording. I recorded something important that lasted for about 11 minutes, and when I went to show people, there was only about 1 or maybe 2 minutes of audio, and then silence for the rest. I’ve been having problems recording school lessons as well. I know my phone has space, so what’s going on?

  17. This is a great app but it only uses .M4A format and you can’t change it. Even Samsung Music app won’t play .M4A format. So, some serious design flaws from Samsung on this one. What I do like: it allows you to save recordings into categories, my guess its their idea of a playlist. Also like the options for changing the quality of the recordings and the recorder mode, such as interview or speach-to-text.

  18. Best thing about this app, is that you can pick it up and record something quick. The categories are cool, too, as they let me separate things like guitar riff memos, from notes, and etc. My annoyance is a bug in the “List” section of the app, that shows all the clips you have saved. Play a clip from your list, then play another while one is already playing. As you progress through your clips, you’ll notice that it starts to visually still play the old clip, but you can hear that the sound is from the new clip you’ve clicked play on. It’s almost as if visually it’s stuck on the old clip. So what ends up happening, is you’ll click the “stuck” clip, hoping to pause it, and the visual will now swap to the clip it was playing, but audio-wise, it will play the clip you just tried to pause. I’m still searching for that perfect audio clip app for music I write, and the one that came the closest, was the “Hum” app, only available on ios, unfortunately.

It’s is not bad, but the buttons to stop and delete are so closed on the pop up when the screen is locked and try to save/pause it from there & yesterday I lost my recording. I noticed this problem before and was afraid of losing a file, yesterday it happened. It should have a prompt: are you sure that you want to delete the audio. The update came without that. Also I’m not sure if when you used the phone to take a picture it stops recording. That would be terrible. I have to check on that.

  20. Ben Sisko dice:

Meh, it works and there’s no ads. It’s only asking for permission to microphone and storage which seems like the necessary things. I have no shortcuts or quick access yet it will start recording randomly on its own. A few times a day I pull out my phone and it’s been recording for hours some times which drains my battery. I don’t like that I can’t disable notifications.

  21. I wish there was a hot key (physically clicking a button on my phone) to start recording a voice memo. I also wish there was an option that auto saved my recording so I don’t have to name it, categorize it, and save it. Some people want to use the app for short comments so all these extra steps make it more of a tedious process. I feel that this app isn’t at its full potential

  22. Overall I like the app. It is very frustrating though that when I’ve upgraded the app all my recordings that I’ve taken the time to type a description for, and put into it a category, they’re deleted from the categories. The description of the recordings stays. Also the name of the categories stays. In some of the upgrades one or maybe two categories keeps the recordings. My previous Samsung phone did not have this issue. It’s been an issue with my S10 Note Plus.

  23. Adequate app. Except for picking up wind noise, it is a decent recorder. Surprised it picked up my guitar in track. If you want to do more than record and play it back on your phone, such as podcasts and YT, then it gets difficult. Editing and splicing capability and the voice to text feature are far too inadequate to list as benefits. Sharing recordings runs into issues when using the google drive/gmail option. The recording automatically downloads when clicked on. No saving it elsewhere.

  24. This app work phenomenal, so far. Clear and clean audio and the interview mode is perfect. You can record a lecture or meeting and jot down the times on paper, or bookmark in the app, key points to recall later on the time line. However, it would be nice to change the file location under storage. Not great when you are listing to music and the next ” song” is the meeting you had with a contractor.

  25. Absolutely love the voice recorder with one exception. The little red slider at the bottom of the recording band gets in the way and becomes a nuisance. Move the thing above the band for the sake of my sanity. I am going forward and back trying to discern what was said and inadvertently I touch that slider and all of a sudden I’m at a point a half hour later inthe recording and have to waste time finding my way back to where I was to begin with.

  26. Joe Uno dice:

I love this app, I use it to record music and it does great whether its acoustic, electric, bass, drums, ect. It even picks up well at live music shows. My only quirk with it is in the list mode I like to hit play without seeing the soundwave because its easier to skip through. But the small round play button makes this hit and miss. It would be nice if the button was squared off so I don’t accidentally click into the soundwave playback.

  27. Super high-quality recorder, with multiple recording levels, and Speech-to-Text which is very accurate. I would just like to see them allow you to use the microphone to record the title rather than have to stop and type the title all the time, as the Samsung keyboard in particular is not very accurate.

  28. I definitely love the way the app looks and functions, but that’s based entirely on the previews. When I try to open the app, it asks for 4 permissions. Microphone, ability to locate nearby devices, call app, and memory. The 2nd seemed weird so I tried to find out what it’s used for, but the info page only lists the 3 other permissions as things the app needs to function, completely ignoring the weird need to locate nearby devices. I’d install if I had some info on that.

  29. Been using this app for 2 years. Recent update. Now I can no longer access my recordings as before. Before the update I could use USB to connect Samsung S6 to Windows 10 desktop, and I could see, access, and copy recordings from S6 to Windows PC. Something was changed and now I can’t even find the files. Very unhappy. I have tried to contact Samsung Support. No answers yet. There us an option within the app to transfer files by WiFi, but only one file at a time. I have 260 recordings.

  30. After recent update, “Convert to Text” option is now gone from menu. For me, that is a neccessary feature. I’ve been using Samsung phones for a long while now, but this trend of removing features is seriously starting to irk me. One of the main reasons I use Android is because of it’s impressive versatility, I do not need Samsung trying to copy other dumbed-down OS.

  31. I’ve tried several recording apps from the Google Play store, and I found this recorder to be the best one based on one important reason. The recorder doesn’t randomly stop recording when it gets interrupted, for example when you have to take a picture or use another app that interrupts the recorder. It would temporarily pause then resume the recording after you’re done with whatever apps you’re using. All the other recording apps just stops recording when it gets interrupted which was annoying

  32. Kathryn dice:

Does not save files in a way I can share them. The only reason I downloaded this was to SHARE voice memos with others because videos are too big to go through. This app did not follow through. Until I can choose which format to save my audio (mp3 preferred) I give this app 2 stars. It had a good format and was easy to use though, so that’s a plus.

  33. It does its job well enough for me. My only issue is that it adds the recordings to the Samsung music app so I can go from listening to music as I would want to some random recording I’ve made. And if I delete them from the music app they’re gone for good, not even in the recorder apps trash, just gone.

  34. You removed the “uncategorized” category! Now you have your list of categories and an “all” category (which is a good addition) but I cant tell which recordings i havent categorized so thats why its so important 🙁 This is my go to voice note recording app. It launches and records quickly, gets the job done and has cool editing features while keeping it simple. Please bring back the uncategorized category in the next update. Everything else is good! 👍

  35. I used this to document my notes for Psychology and Anatomy and Physiology (IMPORTANT NOTES BTW) and I had about 12hrs worth of notes on the app that were deleted. I tried going back to review my notes for midterms and I have absolutely nothing. 100% disappointed. If the app was full it should give me the option to delete recordings MYSELF and not reset itself and delete ALL files. I don’t know what I am going to do. Thank you, Voice Recorder.

  36. Corry dice:

Upon enabling this app it went directly into tutorial mode and disabled all screen input. Because the audio was going to a Bluetooth speaker in another room I couldn’t hear what was going on. I was measuring the quality of battery acid and could not put anything down to go to the next room. This is yet another example of the horrible software that Samsung packages with its phones. It was poorly spec’d out and poorly tested as has been all of the bundled Samsung software that I encounter.

  37. The app, after months of use without it, now requires me to give it permission to make/manage phone calls. I cannot open the app, not even to access old recordings, without granting this permission. As far as I can tell, the ONLY reason this app should need to control phone calls is if a particular setting is turned on, and I have that setting turned off. Even with it turned off, I have no access to the app without giving it unnecessary access to one of my privacy settings. NO.

  38. Seems like others have the same problem I’m having. This was the only voice app I liked. Now it stops recording at 2 mins. I lost something very important. Thanks a bunch. Howsabout you guys fix this issue. Please and thanks. Then I can go back to 5 stars. Also, why in the H E double hockey sticks did you eliminate the stamps on the bottom with the update. What a pain in the Arse!

  39. This app was my favorite for recording vocal practice along with my songs and any other music. I LOVED the ability to play music on my phone while simultaneously recording with this app AT THE SAME TIME. It made on the go vocal practice and recording snippets to come back to in the studio SOOOOO easy. Now I absolutely can’t do that! Samsung had a huge update for the Galaxy A71 5G phones, and after that this app wouldn’t allow me to do so anymore. I can’t open music and record now, I hate it now.

  40. Used to work great… and quick to click on and record asap. After upgrade, cannot even record. Also, it is asking for permissions that have absolutely nothing to do with recording. If you have not needed those permissions for 2 years, and ratings were up, why do you need them now? I Uninstaller it. I will use a different app.
