  1. Inconsistent. Over the last several updates I’ve noticed an inability for this app to consistently perform matrix multiplication. The incredibly simply matrices are no issue, but the second they become even slightly complicated it says it cannot be done. Which makes it overall useless for me at the moment. I’m not sure why this has become an issue, because it wasn’t like this before, but I suspect it has something to do with the paid version of this app. And if that is the case, I will uninstall

  2. This app is good for both answering anything in math that is written out in numbers in seconds and explaining the steps, though it kinda sucks that a lot of stuff is locked behind a Premium subscription, and it would be nice to see a feature for picture and word problems. I would give it a solid 4.5/5 stars. EDIT: This app also helps me understand stuff and actually teaches you, instead of just giving you an answer and calling it a day.

  3. Very quick and easy for most any math I need to do. I spent FOREVER looking for a photomath app that actually showed the steps and this did so perfectly! I do wish that I didn’t have to pay to get a full in depth explanation but I get that they have to make money somehow so it’s not that big of a problem for me. Overall, really easy, simple, explains well, and exactly what I needed. 5 stars!!

  4. Ok so I have seen some negative reviews on here and I think most of those problems are old device specific which I do not have the only problem I have with the app is that sometimes I see the transferring numbers part it shows you when you give it a word problem and think it’s the correct answer. Even if there is no way it can do word problems I don’t think it should show me anything that looks like an answer. Additionally, the plus and premium ads it shows you everytime you scan are confusing

With Photomath Plus I was able to understand my math problems and learn my mistakes, and there were no ads. The steps in which it is foretold makes it so much easier for me. And, the amount of solutions to get helps with different kinds of problems. Like Linear and so on. The best part about this app is that it is really easy to use. With just a snap of a photo it was able to help me get the solution. I didn’t even have to type it in! I would definitely recommend this app to use!

  6. It is very convenient in doing math homework; yet, at the same time, there exist slight inconveniences in the design update, such as the instant problem solving. Before, you had to press a button, and it would scan the problem. You did it when you were ready; now, it immediately solves, scanning other problema on the page and messing up my answer that I need when I turn the phone away.

This app is really great! I’ve got a lot of school work done using it and now have an A++ in my math class 🙂 I also always make sure to read the explanation, because whenever I don’t understand how to figure it out the explanation is really helpful. I would add a feature to solve word problems however, as I noticed it lacks that skill. As well as ability to take more than one photo. I had a really long problem the other day and a tool to take multiple photos would have been great! 4/5 🙂

  8. I like the app. It’s a lot of help and it teaches better than halg my teachers. My only problem is an update. When I first got it, the app would scan constantly until it found the problem or equation. Now I have to take the picture myself which is impossible because it makes the camera zoom in and out and focus and unfocus CONSTANTLY! It would be much easier if it just did what it did before and just scanned constantly instead of having to take a picture that’s too fuzzy because it won’t focus.

  9. It’s an alright app. Sometimes the math is done differently than what you’ve been taught. Some things, like quadratic equations with 2 potential answers(with the potential to be an imaginary number) will come up as undetermind with little or no steps. I do like that it shows steps but if you’re unfamiliar with the other ways, it can be frustrating. And I wish you could shut off the noises in the app

  10. Amazing! Went above and way beyond my expectations! Rarely messes up and if it gets numbers wrong, you can go in and edit it with the smart calculator. Amazing sight. It can read the question in poor lighting, you don’t even have to have perfectly steady hands to scan the problem, they can be wobbly and out of control! Lol! Amazing app! Genius! Props to the developers and anyone involved with this app. One of the best apps out there! Get it now!

  11. Best app for someone who struggles with math. The break downs of how to solve a problem are done in a way that even the person who just doesn’t understand, will finally understand. Definitely worth the paid version if you’re a student. The app explains things better than the textbooks and even the teachers, in my experience! Can’t rave enough. Download it, it’s brilliant.

  12. 2 years in and I adore this app. I hate apps that only give you answers, but no work to get to them. If they do, then you have to pay. It incentivizes students to cheat rather than learn. I want to actually learn how to solve the problems, so this app has been such great help in College level Calc 1&2. Only issues is sometimes, the answers are not simplified all the way. Also it’s unnecessary to turn every single decimal value into a fraction. It’s just makes it harder to follow the steps.

  13. I’m an adjunct instructor in a community college. I teach courses in electronics, automation, and industrial engineering. So, yeah, a bit of math involved. A student brought Photomath to my attention several years ago. I was a little skeptical of how well it would be able to recognize various equations, etc., especially handwritten problems. So I installed the app and gave it a try. I was immediately impressed by the optical OCR and the way solutions were presented. It’s outstanding.

  14. For a calculator that uses the camera, its definitely beyond its game. Being able to explain through the steps helps people understand what and how an problem can be solved. For general purpose I think it’s pretty reliable. It also has a built in calculator and if you need to change something in the problem you just scanned using the camera, you can fix/edit it with its edit problem feature. I’d say I love having it and it doesn’t take too much space. Nice👍

  15. Great app. Not only is the scientific calculator fully functional, its also really easy to use (for the most part since there is a little learning curve) the photo ability works as advertised. Great for complex and long problems. There are still some stuff that photomath can’t solve but definitely getting better. There is also a premium version that gives even more information on how to work through problems. It’s so good that you can learn math throug this app. Recommended to all.

  16. This app really is incredible. Works great, no ads, and completely free. Using this in a science class environment, it would be cool if maybe it had some formulas and constants built in, as an add-on, or even the ability to save them myself. Regardless, this is definitely now on my list of apps that get installed right at the start on a new phone. Thanks a lot for this one…

  17. This is very effective and efficient in what it does. Then goes above and beyond by actually teaching you to a degree. It does so by actually laying out the steps taken to solve the equation if you were to do it yourself. It has an instantly updated answer, number for number as you are typing, or when the reading is taken. Overall this is an amazing app and the creator(s) deserve props for making such an excellent app and for free at that and without annoying ads. Amazing product would definitely recommend.

  18. Absolute necessity for us parents that have not done algebra, geometry, etc. since we were in school! This app has been such a great help, it makes teaching your child math as easy as taking a picture, literally! I had my doubts about how well the camera would read the problem but after weeks of homework everyday, it has not failed even one time. My only possible suggestion would be to have an option to hide the answer to the problem for teaching purposes. Can’t recommend it enough! Excellent!

  19. It is very helpful. When i get stuck on a Math problem i just take a picture and it shows me how to solve it!. I just hope their can be a way that you could do a animated process for other problems. There is a couple of problems that confuse me because they look like what you think it is but its different than what you expect. Like 5 yd 2 ft 3 in -2 yd 2 ft 9 in When i take a picture i had a feeling it wasent going to know the problem and it didnt. So i would like if you could add those problems. Its fine if you can’t i was just wondering. Great app though!

  20. This app is godly. It automatically calculates the answer to the problem, shows its work, and graphs it. Recently, I had been struggling with a topic in math and just couldnt figure it out. After using this app to complete a practice problem, I looked through the work it did and I immediately understood what to do. This app is very handy for students in any grade and I 100% recommend it.

  21. It does all kinds of probldms! And shows you the steps to solveing them too. I used to think of it as a cheat sheet, now I think of it more as a tool. Also, a lot of other reviews said they had to pay for things. I have the full app for free and I didn’t spend a penny on anything! It would be awesome if they made a “photoELA” or other subjects too. It is 100% ad free. Not even little side ads at the top or bottom. It is great!!

  22. I no longer have to wait for my teacher to have an availability for those singular problems that just don’t look right- this gives you not only the answer, but a complete walkthrough with optional additional steps, other ways to solve the problem, and highlighted changes as you progress so you don’t get lost. It doesn’t work as well for fill-in-the-blank math questions, and won’t give you the characteristics of a graph that you take a photo of, but it graphs equations and you can edit wherever.

  23. This is the best app ive ever downloaded. With a regular calculator, some of my work would take hours. Photomath takes 5 seconds. Ive only encountered one issue. When i take a picture it tries focusing, but fails, so it takes a few tries, and when i try focusing it doesnt. But other than that its amazing! Also, i still even learn a bit because it explains the problem.

  24. as long as you can write legibly enough your devices camera to get a clear pic of the problem, this app is actually surprisingly powerful. I’ve run into a few types of problems where its told me that it was unable to do that type of problem yet, but the math wasn’t anything a typical person or student would come across organically. i’d wager any math that probably ≥90% of the population. would ever need this app for, it’s easily capable of computing, and rapidly at that. a “basic” calculator is also included in this app.

  25. I absolutely love this app. It has saved my buttookis more times than I would like to admit, and it explains the steps instead of just cheating and giving you the answer. Only reason why it’s 4 stars and not five: you have to pay a subscription to get the best explanation. I would rather watch an ad or even pay a one time payment to gain access to the premium version. Thank you, photomath. You are truly my favorite AI tutor.

  26. Photomath always has the answer your looking for. Not to sound like an advertisment but, they are constanlty updating, making sure you get the right answer. I would recomend to anyone who hates math class. This makes things so much easier. All you need to do is scan your equation (which doesnt always work with bad handwriting) and it will give you an answer and a step by step way to solve and show work.

  27. Sofie dice:

Awesome app! It’s really great for when I’m doing homework or studying and need help understanding the process. The only issue I ever have is sometimes my camera doesn’t focus and I can’t take a picture, but if I exit out of the app and go back in that usually fixes the problem. Absolutely recommend!! (It does have a premium version, but the free version works better than fine!)

  28. Tbh, this app is really helpful for my everyday math homework. Not only I could get the right answer, but I could also study it because it shows the steps for every solution. However the cons of this app is that, it takes time to make the camera focus on the math problem and its annoying because there are times you have to retake the picture either because it’s not the accurate question you captured or the picture is really blurry. Another thing is that, sometimes it is lagging.

  29. R H dice:

Perfect for any math problem! I also like how there is multiple options to choose whether you are simplifying or solving or just about any type of problem. I recommend this for use on problems you have troubles on. Click the button that says explain steps and it teaches you really well. Remember to just try to solve as much as you can on your own.

  30. This has helped me so much in Algebra especially since they provide each step to get to the solution so you can see where you messed up. They also graph functions for you and that feature is amazing! They also don’t have an overwhelming amount of ads. The app also has a feature where you can look up you textbook and the from the problems in the book.

  31. I LOVE this app! I have always struggled with math since I was little and this has quite literally saved me from failing all my math classes It has the camera that scans your problem and almost always gives you an answer that is correct. The only thing that I think should improve is the step by step problem explaining. I saw a bunch of reviews that said that they used to be completely free. Although this app already makes my life a little easier, it would be even better if they were still free

  32. Kylie A dice:

I’ve always struggled with algebra and mathematical expressions, especially finding a thorough explanation on how to solve it step by step. Websites like “Brainley” simply provide an answer unless you want the full package to unlock. But this app makes it as easy as possible to get an explanation breaking apart the problem in chunks, with just the scan of your phone. To me it couldn’t get any easier. Used this several times, and can officially say it’s a lifesaver.

  33. Very helpful, but you have to pay. You can see the answer to the problems for free though. Response to developer: I understand that you like money, but Quizlet does a far better job at helping me learn the math problem than you do. I’ve stopped using your app entirely because of this. Just wish I didn’t constantly get bombarded with “upgrade to premium” ads.

  34. Fantastic study tool. Good for someone confused and trying to learn something and also good for the guy who wants to take a picture and copy down the work and answers. However, I’ve found it very useful in figuring out how to do problems. Main tool in studying for midterms right now. One bug though: half of the time when I take a picture, the camera just defocuses and it can’t get the picture and I have to try it again a few times to get it. Fix for 5 stars.

  35. This is an excellent program for showing the solution to equations step by step, letting you see where your mistakes are. Each step can be broken down to their simplest form and the rule applied in that step is well described. The UI is very simple yet complete & intuitive. The photo capture of equations is simple & accurate. Simply an excellent tool for anyone learning any level of math, grade school to university. The best math tutor app bar none.

  36. Extremely helpful app, especially for somebody like me who isn’t the greatest at math. I have a hard time learning from my teacher, who tends to go fast through the lessons and never posts notes. I am extremely satisfied with how the app functions: the fast recognition of the problem, the explanations, and the multiple ways of solving a problem. If it wasn’t for photomath, I’d probably be failing math.

  37. I’m not really big on using applications for help when it comes to solving problems quick (and mainly like to do it/figure out things on my own), this app is probably the most helpful, easy and quick way to get answers fast as well as explanations if you dont understand how those answers came to be! Even though sometimes when you photo a problem it doesnt give you exactly what you wanted (for example when you want to factor a problem but instead it gives you a graph of said problem, or vice versa), when it does work it gives you exactly what you need and even a step by step process of how to get to that answer. Though I dont recommend this to people who just want to get homework done and move on, if youre really in a rush and/or want to figure out how the problem solving works, this is a really great app for it! It comes with a normal scientific calculator aswell. (And the the fact that it comes in several languages is pretty cool too.)

  38. I don’t understand why they removed live reading. It was very easy to scan problems, but now that we have to actually capture the problem instead of just hovering the camera over it, it became much harder. My camera tries to auto focus which makes the capture blurry and unrecognizable. What was achievable in one try before, now takes me multiple tries to get right. Please go back to live scanning.

  39. Facesist dice:

It could use a little work on the camera. It would be nice for the camera to pickup pictures on the computer, I’m not getting much help like this app is supposed to give me. Also add commas I can’t tell you how many times I need commas in math. Especially when you are graphing! One more thing add a space bar. You need space bars when you are trying to find (3,6) (7,8) on a line. When I enter this on your app these are my options. “(7.8)(8.9)” Again it would be really nice if you could add those.

  40. Maia dice:

This app is very helpful! It gives you more than one solution for almost every problem from graphing to number lines and more. It will even break down the problems step by step for you and explains what you need to do! Some features you have to pay for like detailed textbook solutions, but overall it’s an amazing app and is very helpful to use when I’m stuck on a problem. 10/10 🙂
