  1. I hate the new interface. Bring back the grid photo viewer and not the auto resizing viewer that doesn’t work and enlarges pics I don’t care to see. For people who take a lot of pictures this is a horrible way to find and/or edit images. At a minimum can we please create a setting to toggle off this feature for those who don’t want it?

  2. I’ve pretty much given up on my “real” camera for the one that’s always in my pocket. Most of photography is being in the right place at the right time with a camera in your hand, and Google Photos on my Pixel 6 makes it happen. Simple as a point and shoot but more adjustable than most SLR’s, it helps you make better pictures. Not enough light? Night Mode will get the shot you want. Time Exposures? Motion Blur? There’s a setting for that. Panoramas? 360? Check! Video? Yeah. It’s got it all!

  3. This is my primary app for backing up photos into my storage. I like the new features (the photo editings), and generally, the entire app. Although, one thing I’ve been constantly noticing is that sometimes, when I try to edit or download an image, it tells me “Unable to edit, check your connection.” It’s really frustrating because I have 0 issues with my connection expect for on Google Photos.

  4. Everything is good except for one feature that literally takes away all the good experience. When there’s a new memory on your photos screen and you want to go back once you’re done seeing it, it won’t let you go back. Guess why because the share button and the go back button on some phones like the one I have (Samsung s21 FE) are at the exact same position.

I like the fact that this app gives you storage and makes it easy to back up photos. However be aware that it DOES NOT allow you to download photos from years ago in your memories. That way you “have to” by photo books and other items from there store. Other then that it’s a nice easy app. PS …the only thing I’ve been able to figure out is to screen shot those old photos I want to re load on to my phone. Maybe I’m wrong …and if so , someone please tell what I’m missing or doing wrong

  6. Chesznut dice:

it’s a good app and all l I like being able to save all my favorite photos and videos some where. But there is a issue where ill save a a lot of photos and instead of going to the top like few of the photos they get spread around the app. what I mean is the dates of most photos are at different dates and pictures duplicated themselves and there will more of the same pictures. I’m not sure what it is but hoping that u can fix it

  7. Recent update was a bit of a disaster. Photos no longer has any of my photos in it. They are still on my phone’s sd card, but photos can no longer find and display them. Not a useful photo app without the photos. New photos go to the SD card and appear in the app, but none from the past. Pain in the butt to navigate through the file directory every time.

  8. Can’t save photos from saved library anymore, was a great feature. Now I have to uninstall and reinstall the app every time I want to save a photo from shared library. Edit: still not fixed. I even went and got a new phone and it doesn’t work. How hard is it to make the function “save” work? I hit save and it says saved them the save button appear again and it’s like I never saved it to my library. Don’t offer a feature that doesn’t work, looking into different apps.

Once I archive photos in Google photos I am no longer able to save to device anymore. I am really unhappy about this. Why was this feature taken away??? Also, all my pictures turn sideways. I have to edit every single one. I thought might be my phone but, I have a new phone and it still does it. It never used to but after an update months ago, maybe even February 2022, it started doibg it. A fix would be appreciated or a setting I can change.

  10. Andy dice:

The worst. If you enjoy the most non-intuitive and difficult way of storing and searching for photos, then this POS is for you. The options for storing your photos are endless, and google photos will try to exhaust every last one. Have a picture you “saved” from email? Good luck finding it, and when you do good luck uploading it to another application. Forget UX, letting the user decide is ridiculous in Google’s eyes. No, Photos will choose what sub-directory is hardest to access.

  11. Shotty workmanship people! It doesn’t even keep the pictures in the right order, by number or alphabetically. So if I had a cbr file I’d have to view the pictures manually one at a time. It rarely allows us to switch between pictures, by swiping left or right. The lock folder doesn’t allow us to search for our files we wish to lock like other pictures apps does! Yea it has a useless search bar, witch 99.9% of the time can’t find a file name or folder unless it want to work witch is very rare.

  12. John Deere dice:

The app lags, especially when trying to access the trash can. I hardly use this app except for storing backups of my photos. Deleting photos straight from my camera is a hassle because it uses this app. UPDATE: It lags even more now. It even crashed just now. “Photos isn’t responding.” Even trying to send feedback the app just goes to an all black screen.

  13. MJ dice:

I’m love G. “Photos”. With this new update, whatever you write in the Comments section (thanks Google for fixing that), it appears on far left bottom of the screen. I did not think I’d like it initially, but as I played with it during a “Test” video, it’s very cool. “Photos” is so handy for screen shots too especially when my printer refuses to print. After the screen shot is made, you can print immediately, then delete it if desired.

  14. Good for editing. Horrible for managing your photos. You can’t create albums without uploading them to Google cloud. If you accidently create an album and upload pictures to cloud, no easy way to undo. You can’t see all videos organized together either. Both are crucial features of a photo/video management app.

  15. Dm B dice:

I waited quite a while to update this app. It seems every time I update a Google product I have issues… This is no exception. Every time I edit a photo and go on to the next, suddenly the app freezes. It will sit there for 10 minutes until I close it and then reopen it. On the next picture same thing will happen again. I should have known.

  16. I like the photo storage, and the ability to share pictures with people. The editing features could be better. It would be nice if it had a paste function, so you could put a picture in with another picture. That would make it like a real photo editor. Also, the markup feature needs more colors! I edit pictures all the time on my computer, and I can think of many other features that Google photos is lacking.

  17. Churrono 9 dice:

From random duplications of photos, to the lack of ability to create an album without adding photos to it immediately, to certain videos refusing to delete themselves, and some images never appearing in any albums and only remaining accessible via files, I am so tired of the problems and bugs this app has. Google, PLEASE fix these issues because they are becoming unbearable to experience.

  18. If you like to edit your photos after taking them, don’t use this app for it. When making edits to photos on my phone or on the web browser, the edits aren’t visible unless you actually go to edit the photo again. From my research looking for a fix this has been a know issue for over 3 years that they just refuse to fix. Very annoying. Edit: looks like this bug just applies to filters, it appears to show the lighting and color edits ok. Still not good.

  19. Google did a great job of convincing their users that they didn’t need to worry about storage over the last decade with Gmail, Drive, and Photos. They even removed the 100 free gb they gave me (different account) as a promotion from a few years back. I like this app. It’s a good way to store and share photos. I occasionally make photobooks. The photobooks are very bare bones. I mostly continue to use this app out of convenience. I am not convinced that they won’t end up screwing me later on.

  20. I have issues with the current update I just installed! When you click on the Info button, and you want to add information to a picture, gif, or movie, the script disappears! You can still enter data, but you can’t see what you are entering. You have to get out of the picture and get back into it, then click the info button to see what you entered. I am presently entering data into all my pics, gifs, and movies and it has really slowed me down. Please fix this! UPDATE: problem has been fixed!

  21. I like having the option to adjust colors (saturation, tint, warm/cool, …) , add text occasionally, and crop multiple ways. It seems that I have less options for editing photos, and there doesn’t see to be a way to adjust the size or style of font (from Text).

  22. Tim O dice:

For the love of God, STOP automatically moving my pics to internal storage! If is say I want them on the SD card, it’s for a reason! 20 updates later, how is this still an issue? Original review: Functional, but EVERY time it updates (like every week), it defaults to internal storage and moves all my pics. Have to move them back to SD card each time Edit: The issue of storage being changed seems to have finally been fixed a few revisions ago. Much better!

  23. Could be an excellent option if nested albums/folders were implemented. I have to organize hundreds of albums by category- for example, jewelry creations organized by type (food, animals, color). And this carries into other things that also needs further folder separation. Hair styles, makeup, etc. Too many to not have this feature.

  24. Overall a really good app. I just wish there was a way to delete duplicate photos, rather than just not uploading them again. Google has some of the best ai designers, it really wouldn’t be that hard. Other than that, everything else works as expected. I just wish you could make a local PC folder like you can for Google drive.

  25. Extremely helpful to have an option to back up your photos, save them, clear space and awesome features to create photo books, printed photos and all sorts of other neat stuff. I enjoy the articles that are there to help you with something you may not know & I love the option to provide feedback.

  26. A P dice:

Google has ruined the app with all the changes. It used to be super easy to find different varieties of photos, quotes, screenshots, posters, etc… now it doesn’t seem to understand any word I enter in the search bar. It completely removed searching by person/face. Its boring and complicated to use now. Hate it. Will be looking for another app to use.

  27. The app will not save a create movie after making it. Click on save and it returns you to the original clip on a Samsung s20 plus. Would be wonderful if it could save again. PLEASE, please fix. And while you’re at it please add title function. Every other editing app has a simple way to include a title. What is a movie without titles? I will be a die hard google fan if you could kindly fix those things. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  28. Why can I not write a description below my screen shot. Also since update my albums aren’t loading up half the time. Alzso having issues with adding to album . Still jumping open and close when I try to use my keyboard. 2nd) Google photos annoying. The suggestions are to intrusive. Being able to pick the options are here when you are ready for your choice of action. Its like a OVERLY helpful two years old or a pet constantly asking the same question while blocking while working

  29. This was a fantastic editing app with a great pen tool that could switch between blurring sensitive information and adding custom colored markers to any picture! Then they made the blur effect to a pixelated effect, and now they completely removed it! What the heck google?! Two stars for being a decent photo editing app, but basically obsolete with Snapseed.

  30. Alice Howe dice:

Google photos has so many options that it makes the entire app limiting and restrictive. But I thought I’d try it again…I am, after all, a Luddite. Perhaps I ‘just don’t get it.’ and now…more than a year later I had lost most of my photos when a ‘helping’ friend hit factory reset. But some of them are here.

  31. Andre Pina dice:

Love my Google Photos! Update: this app has turned into absolute trash. Doesn’t do anything it was supposed to and it takes it up on itself to dismantle work I have done. I have pictures from previous devices that I no longer see anywhere and I can’t recover them as my old devices were destroyed. I’m gonna give up on this one. It was great at first. Now it just gets worse by the day.

  32. Aj Evans dice:

I wish they’d fix the auto-selection of facial recognition. Mostly it works well but sometimes it’s way off from the face or it won’t pick up one or all faces in the frame. I’d like to manually tag photos w/o Google’s face detection. Also I don’t know how to add location to images. It’d be nice if it were possible to have ‘parent’ albums and sublet albums like if I want an album of someone but I want to outline specific trips or memories or add notes to images. I’m sorry if my asks are complex.

  33. In a sense I feel as though Google Photos knows me and I just love it. It creates collages and special effects with my precious moments. The app allows me to back up my photos and organize them routinely. I can also archive my photos in the app to clear space so I don’t blog down my cell phone. I have a few suggestions but I don’t want to bore you with my unimportant ideas ,

  34. Luis dice:

I thoroughly hate machine learning algorithms choosing random memories for me. It used to be the case that memories were organized by year. Not anymore. I get random days, and random years, in random order. Huge step back for this app. I wish I could go back to a version where it showed memories from all available years

  35. A couple of times it has something weird were all of my photos moved to different places and I am not a able to delete photos, or at least hardly ever, I am not able to. So that made s why I it only gets three out of five, over all though I think it has been pretty much all good and I like it, other than those two things it has been great. 🙂😁

  36. Trista M dice:

I’ve been enjoying this app forever, love the backup feature and literally everything about this app. However, the new look of the “memories” feature is awful. I can’t enjoy the pictures when they’re moving around the screen and the date isn’t as easy to read. I wish there was a way to opt out of this new look and go back to the old one. But I still love the app, just ruined the memories :/

  37. I really like this app, it helps me enjoy my photos years after they were originally taken and gives me access to my entire photo library so easily. I do wish that the highlights/stories feature would remember which photos I looked at the previous day when I come back after new photos are added to them. It would be better if it picked up where I left off.

  38. Tim Geise dice:

As I slowly discover new features, it’s a very good app. However, I wish that when you move stuff into albums, they would disappear from the main photo galleries. I also wish this had a mass delete function, where you could select a whole bunch of photos ahead of time and I just delete them all at once. With this app you have to delete them one photo at a time which is very time consuming

  39. Mona dice:

I still like this app but am having Real issues with it. 2 weeks ago I couldn’t get it to open at all. Uninstalled it and re installed, restored photos. Thought everything is fine. But, am having the Same Issue today! Will uninstall, re install and restore photos. Getting Really time consuming and irritating having to do this. I enjoy the editing tool. Functions well and easy to use. No significant issues so far. Organization is easy to use and keeps all my photos safe and organized.

  40. The Clock dice:

Despite the usefulness of this app, I must say, the fact that all photos created in this app have a black background is very annoying. Being able to crop and edit photos to this extent is useful, but I can’t stand using it on something that has black as a major color. It completely ruins my entire image, and forces me elsewhere. For that, -2 stars instantly.
