  1. Plugs keep randomly turning off. Changing the access point is challenging because the app won’t tell you where it’s attached and you need to know that to change it. I’ve seen some bad management apps before, but this one is a legend. Update: Now it won’t even show the devices on the network if they get removed from the app. Fortunately, they exist on the network and can be integrated with Alexa and SmartThings. I’ll be replacing all of these with TPlink plugs. Is there a zero stars option?

  2. The most recent iteration of the app seems to be quite poorly executed. Setting up items in my house after changing WiFi passwords is frustrating. They don’t seem to show up in my list of devices without a long delay, or factory resetting them. Even with the factory reset, it doesn’t guarantee a successful setup. The app still works, barely, to update WiFi settings, but this is making me price out a different system for home automation so I don’t have to go through the nonsense every pw change

Wemo switches work well except 1) that Sunset and Sunrise settings are inaccurate and 2) they have to be reset after a power outage. I wish I could control these devices from a web browser on my Windows PC. The Wemo cloud server is currently unavailable, and the app has lost several devices. Any new switches or plugs will be from a new manufacturer. Belkin, the parent of Wemo, has terrible support, too. I’m done with them and their subsidiaries.

  4. 3 old two new and only two old ones work. Last year purchased some wemo single outlets and currently only two of them are connected and working. These work perfectly. The other from last year fails to connect during the setup process no matter how many times i reset the device. Purchase two new single outlets through Amazon and neither of them shows a Wi-Fi network or is picked up in app.

  5. These used to be a good product… Not anymore. When you create rules, it’s difficult enough to get to a specific time. When you add a product to an existing rule it resets the trigger time of the rule. The switches also are finicky and difficult to reset and keep online. I’ll be looking for a different product from a better competitor.

  6. Nothing works to reset devices, and they’re constantly resetting and breaking connection, and none of the instructions to reset and add the decide back to the network work. Incredibly frustrating, terrible app and product, not worth the money! If I could rate zero stars, I would. EDIT: Several weeks later, STILL AWFUL. I can’t believe they get away with selling this absolute garbage. UPDATE, 1 year later: STILL having issues with these devices! Every time the wifi goes down. Just garbage!!

  7. We absolutely love it at our house! We use it for many things, each light, my compressor (with wemo plug) for work and other electrical items. When it works it is excellent! When it occasionally “disconnects” from an item or cannot find it, it is irritating; thus the 4 stars. We love the ease and convenience. We also, have fun “accidentally” turning our teenagers bedroom lights off and then back on. – They actually come out of their rooms to see us to ask if we are messing with their light.

  8. The app keeps saving my schedules as random on off time. Now it will not let me save a dedicated schedule for the times I want. Even a previous saved dedicated schedule changes to random on off if I happen to re save it. This is very aggravating. I went through the online support and other than telling me to re-install the app, which didn’t help, it was very disappointing. Live phone support had me on hold for an hour with no one answering. Belkin needs domestic (US) for their support.

  9. The smart plugs I had (F7C063) are admittedly older, but there is no excuse for the lack of support from this app. Since Belkin forced their users to have an account, connectivity has been kludgey to non-existent; which I found out when I had to reset a couple of the plugs. If you choose to stay with the WeMo smart plug, roll back to Version 1.24 or earlier and you will have no issues. As for me, I tired of the BS and replaced them with Kasa EP25s…no issues and work solidly with a better app.

  10. Mi Key dice:

I’m Finally rid of WEMO products, they all have many problems most of the time they go off line. Sick of having to reconnecting to the app. At first, I thought that it was my WIFI so I replaced it with a mesh system. Still had problems. I started replacing them with Kasa units and have no problems with them. Easy to connect to the system and never loose connections.

  11. On again off again Finnegan. Sometimes it works great sometimes it just doesn’t work. Many times a dimmer will lose its connectivity and some are so difficult to reestablish the not even worth the effort generally speaking this is a disappointment if I had all to do over again I would not have gone with the w e m o and chose another route but when it works it works great, I’m sorry but that’s just the way it is and talking to a technician is a great cop out you need someone over here to just do

  12. I have had WeMo smart bulb for a long time. Recently I had to reinstall the bulbs because a crash. I also had to reinstall the APP. Now can’t program the lights to come on and off . The rule won’t work properly, the lights keep dropping off the app. I’m frustrated with all the problems and time I spend trying to keep these lights functioning properly.

  13. Brad Cook dice:

Does not always work. Sometimes it does not recognize the Wemo devices attached. Sometimes, when I am clearly connected Wifi, the app cannot connect to Wifi. I keep getting a popup asking me to update the app. I won’t update, after my last experience updating Wemo. It was so FUBAR that I had to remove and reinstall the app and both of my plug in Wemo devices. If the app isn’t working, I have to go to the Wemo device plugged in, not an easy task. Update- now it is worse

  14. The app along with the smart plugs seem to always have one issue or another when trying to work with Google Home. After having 4 plugs set up for various lights, one plug just stopped working through the Google home and even had issues though it’s own app. Now when trying to just do a reset on the plug, it will no longer connect and link to the app and my account, as well as wemo in general no longer links with Google home. Have had these issues time and again with wemo.

  15. The app is unreliable. It will not add a a previously added device even though you can connect directly to it. The device connects to wifi and even Alexa effortlessly, but the app cannot add it. Furthermore, notifications for the Insight were always troublesome, but stopped working completely a few years ago. Wemo tries to pretend the Insight no longer exists. This is a terrible app and company. Look elsewhere for your smart home needs.

  16. Complete garbage! 2 of my devices just disconnected for no apparent reason (several others are still connected). I stead of reconnecting on their own, I had to reconnect a switch through the app, which was difficult enough, but it isn’t working. It said to factory reset it but didn’t tell me how! I went to the support page in the app which redirected me to a web browser and I can’t get past the stupid cookies settings page! You’d think they’d be smart enough to just turn them off for that page.

  17. Nathan dice:

The Wemo app is proof that if you put enough monkeys in a room, they can eventually design an app. I would give this app negative stars if I could. It is constantly failing. It can’t detect switches when they are clearly connected. Sometimes a switch doesn’t even work. Upgrading firmware is a nightmare. You’re stuck waiting days for it to finally work, if it works at all. Wemo does nothing to fix these problems.

  18. My experience with wemo has been unsatisfactory! Frequent unavailability and or network connectivity issues. The outlets have not function correctly for at least 40% of the time I have tried to use them which has been years. As add to my smart switches, I am getting other solutions/manufacturers that use their own bridge. Solutions with bridges fail much less frequently.

  19. Frustrating, glitchy. Bought a couple “smart”plugs from Costco last year and got them set up. A little clunky but eventually worked. The problem is you have to keep reconnecting them. This year, I’ve spent at least 3 (still unsuccessful) sessions trying to reconnect these plugs. The app keeps freezing and it’s been trying to install firmware for 2 days. You might be stuck if you already purchased Wemo products but i don’t recommend. Edit 10/2022: even worse now. App won’t do anything

  20. Liam N dice:

DO NOT BUY, can’t even passwird reset, complete useless junk now, waste of money UI is pretty bad, especially if you are in a menu and have to go back, like creating a rule, you have to close the app and reopen it. Edit: changing to 1 star, yet another problem setting them up at Christmas, somehow they went from a flawless local setup to a fragile cloud setup.

  21. Really the worst experience I’ve had with an app. Belkin owns wemo and they’ve gone from good to unusable. Device resets and sets up but won’t link to my account. I’ve reset it 10 times and tried closing my account and seeing up from scratch. Device gets new name connects to my wifi and shows up but is not controllable because app won’t allow it on my account even when it sees it. App also won’t work with Google home anymore.

  22. WHAT HAPPENED?? AND WHY HASN’T THIS APP BEEN UPDATED IN ALMOST 2 YEARS????? My WeMo smart plugs no longer work with my voice assistant!! I can’t get the Google Voice to connect to the WeMo anymore!! And now, when I open the app it says it can’t connect to the cloud, and I have to exit and reopen the app several times to manually turn the plugs on and off!!!!! HAS WEMO BEEN ABANDONED??? IT WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW!!!!!!!!

  23. T Nelson dice:

Unstable, each update breaks connectivity Devices constantly lose connection and can’t be found. “Caching” is apparently a four-letter word at Belkin. Devices are constantly in a state of discovery and often fail to be found. Gets more unstable with each update. Been “syncing” my working switches with the new online account for a couple hours now… Will not be using Belkin moving forward. Once Belkin has your money there is little support afterward. Overly complicated garbage…

  24. Way too hard tho connect to switches and plugs. I tried before Christmas (12/22/22) and spent an hour off and on, and couldn’t get 4 different devices (3 plugs, 1 switch) to connect, even after resetting the parts. Today on 1-4-23, I tried them all again and got them all set up within 5 minutes doing the same things. The problem was with the WEMO servers. It was sad that right before Christmas when they were needed I couldn’t get them to work. Only the light switch is needed now.

  25. When we installed wemo a few years ago it was much better than it is these days. Lately the devices have become non responsive, And we recently tried to install a new device which was a total waste of time and money. Text service offered to send me an email to replace the new device, which they never did. At this point I am considering switching over to a different manufacturer of smart devices. I would not recommend wemo… SIDE NOTE, I am a New York City licensed electrical contractor.

  26. Terrible! App will not work with the “connected” device! I would give negative stars if it was possible. I have the Crockpot & thankfully it will work without the app but the whole point of getting this particular crockpot was because I could customize time & high/low setting! I’ve had this for several years & EVERY SINGLE “update” there has been a major issue & I’ve had to resort to using the crockpot like an old school one every time! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON WEMO PRODUCTS OR APP!

  27. I have used these plugs for years for holiday lights. They are a pain to set up every year but I live with it. Once I get my rules set up they work for the season. Things are working fine but I wanted to go in and change the rule so that my lights stay on longer. Well, the app says that “the cloud has drifted away for a minute.” Knowing that this app is unstable I am afraid to do anything but wait since it is so close to Christmas and my rules are working. Will look for another option next year.

  28. Joe C dice:

Worst app and ‘smart’ product I’ve owned. Unintuitive, near impossible to remove a product of it goes bad or you stop using. Firmware updates freeze, app crashes constantly, difficult pairing and removal process. I’ve used many many smart home products, I’ve decided to switch over completely to TP-Link/Kasa based on price, functionality and ease of use. Wemo is by far the worst brand I’ve tried.

  29. It’s great when I can get it to work. We had a power outage recently, the app says that it is connected to my WiFi but that the device is not detected. The Belkin Plug was flashing Amber. The last time this happened (about a year ago) I had to reset EVERYTHING, it took 4 or 5 tries before we could get it to connect without running into issues. Then when we got it to connect we couldn’t set the timers due to other issues. After five days of repeating the same steps with tech support it started working. This time around, It can’t find the device at all after resetting it, it just hangs out flashing blue and amber. Well, now it’s hanging on the floor.

  30. App crashes all the time…on different phones…and it’s interesting that I didn’t even open the app…but I get a pop up that it crashed. Also, the dimmer switch will stay in either the On or Off position and will not respond by using the actual switch, nor the app. The only way is to flip the circuit breaker and reinstall the switch. I have had to do it MANY times now. This switch is not worth it. I don’t know if it is defective hardware or bad firmware update. Others have the exact problem.

  31. It lost the ability to check for firmware updates for my devices. I had to install the iOS app on an iOS device in order to download the firmware updates. Wemo CS is quite friendly and has a lot of availability, but they weren’t able to solve the issue. The app has an option to check manually for updates as well, but it instantly tells you it can’t check for firmware updates at this time. Tech support seemed to suggest the firmware server had moved into a cloud situation/setup, and perhaps that isn’t playing nicely with the Android app, which hasn’t been updated since December 2018. I might switch to a different brand for the rest of my home automation. Purely due to the nightmare that is their app ecosystem.

  32. Problematic performance… it worked well for a while, then stopped working correctly though I’d made zero changes to anything. Eventually a new version of the app came out which sorta fixed those issues, but a couple months later it stopped working in other ways… Tech “support” has been useless so far, referring me to a “higher level” of support for the issue, but that higher level doesn’t answer their phone or respond to voicemails. I don’t recommend using this for anything important that you rely on.

  33. I agree with other reviews in that the interface for this app is horrible. The device seems to work okay for my espresso maker but I had one hell of a time trying to get another schedule in there for a set of Lights. If you have just one, super, you’re good. But if you want to add another good luck in trying to set up a rule for that one. it’s… as I said, a horrible user-hostile interface. Want to edit to change on/off times? Forget it – exasperating, shameful hostile user interface.

  34. Seems to work. Just wish the controls were more robust and easier to find. Like scheduling. And the update firmware has me waiting an eternity without any progress bar. I’ve been fiddling with auto on off timer and it’s the worst I’ve encountered from a smart wifi device. Even when I have it set to go on by itself it does not turn on. Have to manually do it. Waste of time.

  35. it is a very simple interface to use…, when it works. Very useful, when it works right. The app doesn’t always work however, and getting the switch to reconnect with your WiFi is like pulling teeth. Their solution is always, “factory reset”. Three years in and it is still just as buggy to set up. Other than that, I love how easy it is to use. Get the bugs worked out and it will get 5 stars.

  36. Not reliable at all. Not just the app, but also the products this app works with. Everything else works on my network just fine, so I know it’s not my network that is the issue. The smart plugs become unresponsive after only a few days and then need to be reset again. Firmware updates are too frequent and half the time, the updates don’t succeed and the devices need to be factory reset. Go with GE or TP-Link if you want reliable smart home products in the same price range.

  37. After a couple years usage, I feel that the Etekcity devices are more reliable. And cheaper. Concerning this app, the Etekcity app has much more functionality. Not that I actually use the full functionality, to be fair, but it will track every time the network is offline, which would be helpful at times like right now, when one of my Wemo switches won’t work and i have no way of knowing why. There is no function in this app to troubleshoot the device. Thanks a lot.

  38. A Turner dice:

My review? If a day goes by and I don’t have an issue, that’s a good day! Every update goes on for days usually it’s ended by me by uninstalling and re installing the app. I am going to try and not update. Greyed out light switches on the app is normal. I’m actually afraid to use the lights while on a trip out of town. Seemingly everything that can go wrong with these lights, has, and will. Although I have 8 lights, (switches and plugs), i am constantly on the look out for a new system. Sad!

  39. Update: I bought two more, mini plugs thinking that these newer ones might work better. I was very mistaken. Horrible. I wish somebody else would make this product, but that actually works. I wish I learned. these things are a great idea with terrible execution. constant problems connecting, often the device can’t be found, and currently is stuck “upgrading” and not functional. i am trying to find a different brand that does this same thing..

  40. Poor user interface, poor reliability, and obnoxious and unnecessary permissions. I do like the actual smart plug, but the app is garbage. I dread having to change timers. There’s no scrolling, or even press and hold, when changing a time. Wanna change it by 30 minutes? That’ll be 30 taps. Then to save, you have to hit “set”, “done”, then “save”. Your UI is 20 years out of date. And now I have to enable location to access the device? No thank you. Update: It now doesn’t work at all.
