  1. This is so close to being a 5 star experience. But there are two major design choices which I find very perplexing. The first big one is no matter how many times I collect cards(As RARE as that already is) I always seem to get repeats! …and I only have three cards. That’s a bad sign. That gives the player less and less desire to keep playing. The second one, and it’s virtually as big, is the grind. I don’t mind a good grind to leveling up to add to the lasting value. But this is overkill.

  2. If you like 1942, then you’ll like this game. 5-second ads pop out between games and if you’d like to double your stars (in-game currency) after you lose a life, you can watch a 30-second ad. 8 quarters is all it takes to buy the Ads Removal option and improve your gaming experience. This gets you the most bang for your 2 bucks as it gets rid of the ads, gives unlimited lives, allows you to collect free stars every 3 hours, and doubles your stars with a tap of a button (after losing a life).

  3. Matt H dice:

Awesome game, but incessant ads after every death, level completion, cutscene, etc, even while my phone is in airplane mode. Every ad breaks the game audio and i must restart to get the audio back on. Fix this issue and lessen the amount of ads, like it used to be a few years back, and it would get a 5 star review from me

  4. One of my favorite games of all time, along with its sequel “Reloaded”. It’s not pay to win, but to avoid grinding, it’s totally worth it to pay for double stars, no ads, and buy yourself about 20,000 stars right at the beginning. After that, then the game is a lot better. This game’s is better than most paid apps. I’d pay $5 for the game. But it’s basically a “paid quality” game that allows you to play it for free with ads. I look at buying those 3 options as just buying the game.

  5. While lacking the depth that Sky Force Reloaded provides, Sky Force 2014 is still a great game. The key to its replayability is its upgrade system, allowing you to focus on specific types of weapons as part of your playstyle, and the different difficulty settings for each mission. However, if slowly transforming your plane from a flying BB gun into a juggernaut doesn’t sound fun in and of itself, you may find it tedious since you will be replaying the same 10 missions over and over.

  6. Like so many games, lots of potential wasted by greed. Ads AND microtransactions (seriously, pick one) & expensive upgrades compared to how much you earn combined with big jumps in difficulty between levels means doing a level over & over ad nauseam to afford upgrades to be strong enough to move on. Giving up after 100%ing first few levels, since I have better things to do with my time. I just wanted to play a fun & challenging game, not waste hours grinding. Permissions also concerning.

  7. This is an exceptional shmup with crisp sound effects, great graphics, and a satisfying upgrade system. However, due to how they want you to buy stars the progression is so painfully slow that it is an absolute slog to keep playing. I understand trying to motivate people to spend money in a free to play game but you really can’t play for very long without paying unless you want to hunker down for an extremely slow experience. Do yourself a favour and play the pc or console version of the game.

  8. I liked everything about this game. I have never thought to apply a slow-down feature for when the finger is taken off the screen. I was surprised I’d never implimented that in any of my own games software. The SFX, GFX, and gameplay were all great. The voice work was cute. Nice girl. Gonna play it quite a bit. Nice to find I increased my skill the more I play and could also find it challenging the first few times. Good colour code with powerups and lasers, keeping them starkly different.

  9. It’s ok, but, being an utter grind fest, leaves me feeling frustrated. I paid for the ‘double reward’ up grade. If you don’t it will take you forever to get anywhere. Even with the upgrade it is still way too much effort for so little reward! 3 stars, good graphics, great idea, and a more interesting time waster. But to get your plane to a decent level is going to take hours and hours of gameplay – who has the time?!

  10. Not exactly “pay to win” , but more “pay to have fun”. You have to spend stars to upgrade your ship and to play the levels (unless you want to wait for several minutes). You end up grinding the same level over and over again to get a meager reward needed to progress. It’s a shame since it’s a good looking game with a potentially good gameplay. It’s several years old and it kind of shows.

  11. Josh dice:

Addictive. I like the gradual upgrades and the ability to go back and replay levels. The controls take getting used to, but they’re fine once you get it. Some upgrades are not completely intuitive, but that could be because they’re low level for me still. Also some buttons are unclear; still don’t know what some things do. (Edit:Oct’20 no longer seems to function with my device. Can’t get past initial loading screen – reduced to 1star from 5).

  12. Its bring back so many memories, the time im using Nokia N’gage back in 2004. This version graphics improved significantly. However, the sound was moving backward. Especially the explosion sound. The sound for old version was sharper & make you feel like a 3D explosion sound. But now this new version’s sound more like mono, not as good as old version.

  13. Used to be decent, now it’s turned into another game chuck full of adds you can’t get out of, constantly interrupting your play… uninstalling, i understand the desire to gain the few cents that get paid to the developer for each ad watched, but i have no desire or need to forcefully watch reapeat adds every 15 seconds. Good luck!

  14. Nice visuals and graphics and the gameplay is awesome but it feels a bit grindy and the plane upgrade rate is too slow which is why one has to play same level over and over again and this kills the fun and besides that we get same cards. Other than this this game is awesome. 👍

  15. The game is awesome as it should be. But I am addressing a problem. Whenever I close an advertisement and return to the game the sound system completely turns off. I have to restart the game to get the sounds of the game again. Please fix this as it is very annoying.

  16. It takes forever to accumulate enough in game currency to buy meaningful upgrades. The limit on lives / energy makes this even more cumbersome. Unless you are happy to watch ads or spend money, look elsewhere from some Retro-Style shooter.

  17. The gameplay is excellent. Just like the original. Takes alot of grinding to work up the levels but you don’t need to spend to do so which is refreshing. The only thing to dent a 5 star rating is that there is a serious bug in the achievements which means I have earned them all without actually earning them. It doesn’t affect the gameplay itself though

  18. Fun game to pass the time. I’ve been playing for about a month now. I did buy the two “upgrades” after that I can play as much as I like an haven’t had to pay for anything else, an no ads. They do have stars for sale, but haven’t had to buy any. Overall a really good game for a few bucks. Well worth it IMO.

  19. You lose stars when you close the app. After buying no ads and double stars it STILL takes WAY TOO LONG to progress. I’ve spent far too many hours trying to upgrade and progress. The levels aren’t THAT good.

  20. It’s a beautiful and fun game; one of the most graphically pleasing of its kind. Unfortunately, the power curve is so steep, you have to play each level 50+ times to become strong enough to advance to the next. After 100’s of games, I still haven’t powered up enough to handle stage 4. Lazy game design.

  21. Go Away dice:

The game itself is decent. One of the best shmups on Android. There is a grinding element but I don’t find it that annoying – more like challenging. With enough skill after a few initial upgrades you can get relatively far on your own so no purchasing really necessary for me. There is one issue though – the controls of the game. You can’t activate your powerups “mid-flight”. In order to fire laser/shield/bomb you have to lift your finger which means you have to stop. It killed me many times.

  22. NSA PHONE dice:

This game is a fun bullet hell game where both you and the enemy fire upon each other what I like about this game is that it is a pass time for when your bored never gets boring but never gets past the pass time rating. The controls are simple hold and drag you destroy the enemy collect stars(the games currency) and spend it on upgrades to the plane the only down side is that the size and damage of the bullets when you just start off is harsh boat it up a little please…

  23. awesome 80s arcade style space shooter! it’s a mix of Galaga arcade, Truxton, Choplifter & a bunch of other 80s arcade, Sega Genesis, and Super Nintendo games of the 1990s. but on top of that, the controls are great, the upgrades are all awesome and fun to collect. replayability is off the charts. works liquid smooth on even older phones like the Note3 and Galaxy S3. but really looks amazing on the Galaxy S10 Plus! Nice music and sound effects. amazing graphics and animations. huge end bosses.

  24. Very fun game. Easy to get started and just keeps going. New levels, level difficulties, and plane upgrades keep the game interesting even after hours upon hours of game play. Controls are intuitive and easy. Upgrades are meaningful, with extra increase when you fill a whole level meter.

  25. Hey, my review just disappeared, why? You’ve put ads after every stage and even though it says I will lose a reward if I close the video early, but I don’t get any even if I let the video play out. Looks like someone else is getting the rewards. The scrolling studders after the last update which doesn’t help when you’re trying to avoid things on the screen.

  26. Absolute gem of a game, I can play this game all day long! I have to grind before playing stage 7 and there is one bug. The bug is, in stage 4. When you go in slow mo mode, the boss shakes left to right. I don’t know why but it still counts as a 5 star.

  27. One of the best action-packed and repayable SHMUP games ever. Easy to play, challenging to master, it’s packed with plenty of gameplay features. I’ve been playing this for over a decade on Android and PC. It’s that good.

  28. Way better than reloaded in most aspects, it’s not as grindy and punishing but still has a grindy aspect to it, plenty of interesting enemies and upgrades to discover and unlock, a ton of replayability thanks to stage challenges and difficulties. The game doesn’t seem too grindy if you play it on and off. Beautiful graphics, fun gameplay, and interesting bosses with a good challenge. Really fun bullet hell game. Would definitely recommend.

  29. Awesome game!! Loved it’s simple yet complex and difficulty level at the same time. Bitter mix of composure, enemies and atmosphere levels make all the way for a great playing experience.

  30. After all these years still one of the better top down shooters out there, very smooth and polished. Unfortunately it also has obnoxious mobile game mechanics where you can only play X amount of times per hour and is bloated with ads. This could have easily been a 5 star recommendation.

  31. Second only to Sky Force Reloaded, its sequel. One of the best shoot-em-ups on the market. Remove ads and double progress for less than a coffee, no in-your-face microtransactions. Multiple difficulties keep levels fresh. Best graphics of its genre. Well worth a try.

  32. Liked the take on the scrolling shooter but completion of a mission fully is hard and upgrades are slow initially. The firepower is too less for any kind of enemies during start except for normal ones which go out in a single bullet others are tough to handle initially. Unless you are dedicated this game will be a bit hard. For a perfectionist, this game will consume their time like anything…

  33. Pretty good experience with the game, i guess they have put everything on the right spot but the game needs some optimization like the plane control with the fingers must be snappy & fast while taking it right to left or so and the colours option must be there for the planes., although killing 100% enemy is abit tough task to deal with 😁 Thanks 🙂

  34. it is agood game really challenging, but like others have mentioned the time inbetween is long. I have a problem with using the stars for upgraded armaments that do not get specifically the wing guns and the laser. just as a sugestion i would show more ads likw after every play, and let people play after each ad or set of ads.

  35. Sky force is a really fun game with great graphics and challenging levels that are super satisfying to complete. The reason I didn’t put it for five stars though is because with the levels, I think it would be better if once u complete a level then u unlock the next level instead of having to get enough stars for it. But apart from that I love the game 👍

  36. Developers, it was very heart breaking that you made the game so long, feels like endless. Upade for cannons and missiles etc seems to be endless moreover the requirements to win each stage are so high to be met. Requirement of stars for each upgradation is way too high, than what can ve collected in each match. The most irritating was they way you guys had set the objective, 100% kills, seriously and that also you made necessary to win. I uninstalled the game after 4th stage.

  37. Paul dice:

I want to give this game 5 stars, it was fun grinding to the near end. But then my phone broke, got a new one but there’s no way to restore old game as doesn’t save to your profile cloud. All that progress gone. It’s not worth the effort even if I wanted to. Ps Yes I did log in with the same account

  38. While the graphics is the GREATEST I have seen since video games came out for small screens!!! I am truly disappointed that in the First version of “Sky Force” it takes so long to upgrade your ship!! as well as you are not allowed 4 missles on the ship! nor when you pick-up extra hearts, those are not used First! before your ship starts taking damage! Otherwise each level is Amazing and challengling!! for the BEST Off-Line!! Experience I have had with a Flying FPS game!! being one of the seemingl

  39. A beautiful looking vertical shooter. The simple gameplay is sufficiently offset by unlocking levels and increasing their difficulty, progress is slow without spending money but there’s enough of a game here to keep you going before you reach that point.

  40. Graphics is good. But what I don’t like is the controls. Wherever you put your finger, your plane follows it. So your plane is under your finger. Your finger blocks your plane and you can’t see it which makes you die easier. Try playing some similar games like this and you’ll see what to fix about your controls. Try 1945. Controls are good.
