  1. It’s a nice app when it decides it wants to work. it crashes once in awhile and sometimes you have an issue logging in. sometimes when you go to login and you enter your correct email and correct password it will prompt you with an error saying you have the wrong email or password. I’ve had to uninstall and reinstall the app a couple of times. I hope the developers take care of this issue.

  2. S Blunt dice:

A bit more cumbersome than I’d like when it comes to doing simple tasks such as adding external accounts. There has to be a better way. 5-10 clicks to make small changes isn’t it. Shouldn’t have to send a msg to customer service just to get an, outdated, auto generated response. Started off well. Let’s get back to the basics. The interface is great but the execution is lacking. A lot.

  3. Jason D dice:

This used to be a five-star app. Granted is still one of the better brokerage interfaces. But in the last few years M1 has really started pushing advertisements and overcomplicating the once simple interface. They should have an option to have the most simple interface, no ads, no research, no crypto, just simplicity.

  4. Overall, great product and platform. Speaking from a casual use case, the service is relatively easy to use, with easily adjusted portfolios and a huge selection of choices, including pre-made “pies.” Only complaints – The widget occasionally gets stuck and fails to sync – The news feed for any given stock or ETF may be pulling outdated articles

  5. MX dice:

    1. This app has gotten extremely slow over time. So much lag makes it very frustrating and hardly useable. 2. It no longer reliably shows changes over 1 year and all time, often either not at all or shows completely incorrect data. 3. Rebalances are not always done on pies with many positions when they normally can be, well over the 1 dollar limit. 4. App logs out too fast when I switch apps within a very short time.

  6. Mina Hill dice:

M1 is easy to navigate and easy on the eyes. This is especially great for new investors. It does lack data I am used to seeing. Generally have to have another screen up to look up data, dividends etc. Ultimately, Its a bit hard to get a hold of customer service. I have 2 Roth IRAs due to a pop up with a continue button that doesn’t go away and I have a checking account that I thought didn’t go through because it stated unable to process while there’s a pending transaction? But got a statement.

  7. Great concept but needs improvement/polishing. Difficult to navigate, not intuitive enough. Certain functions dont work all the time, pies need to be saved manually to reset the stats. I wish I could swipe left or right to get to the research view… instead i need to click on research at the bottom and find the stock all over again which is time consuming. Hope they continue to improve the app, it’s a great concept so far!

  8. Bob K dice:

This is usually my goto app but, it has minor issues. On the research tab, when doing a search, it will sometimes list all available stocks and other times, it will only load several stocks and the little circle at the bottom of the search items just goes round and round. It’s very annoying because you have to constantly keep retyping the search term to get it to work properly. Other than that, a 10 year performance history would be nice instead of 5 years.

  9. M1 has pleasantly surprised me. I love the pie concept – that makes it so easy and intuitive to see where your money is. I am an inexperienced investor, so I’m learning as I go with the minor background knowledge I already had. M1 has some educational resources, but I’d like to see more. Overall, I highly recommend M1 for its usability, great UI, small home screen widget, and expertise. It’s important to diversify, and M1 makes that easy!

  10. Strikes the perfect balance between traditional brokerage and robo investing. I like having the flexibility of choosing individual companies to invest in in a structured way. I like the backtesting for pies as well. Really appreciate the lack of fees. The app is functional, not too cluttered. My only gripe is the lack of educational content and a smart goal-based wizard. Overall I’ve been very pleased.

  11. M1 simplifies investing by making it easy to continually contribute and tweak your portfolio with just a few taps. The pie concept is a great tool and visualization, especially for understanding new additions that start underweight. Plus, you can stay balanced without incurring commission fees for every trade. While it may not do everything (like options), both new and veteran investors will appreciate the clean interface and ease of automation. And it’s free!

  12. Awesome for self investing. The trading once a day is definitely a limitation, but considering the trades are commission free, I find it toally acceptable. The research feature on the app is really nice. The expert pies included for those that dont want to invest in individual stocks are solid. Overall, an excellent app for having once daily control over your portfolio. Bit of a learning curve, but definitely doable. integrates to the CD version of turbotax flawlessly.

  13. overall, a very good app. feedback, though: 1. it needs the option to directly research on items found within the established pie. when building, you have to jump to research and type. 2. the shared links indicate bizarre % return figures that can’t be a product of subcomponents even when you understand the time frame. 3. I should be able to look at an aggregated price history on the pie I’ve built, since every component has a history and proportion.

  14. Rob Rob dice:

Missing some features at the overall portfolio level, and erasing the text in the search makes my keyboard collapse. Other than that it if reliable and delightful, and without all the things that annoy me about a lot of my apps (such as sever clicks to get to login, and ease of accidently doing something while scrolling or swiping). Rebalancing is easy, pies can br in other pies, auto-invest is easy, AND they allow for some of the intergrations you’d like such as Mint.

  15. Chrissy B dice:

Disgruntled User. Extremely difficult to navigate. I looked at videos to change pies; not helpful. I cannot find my balance, add individual stocks or edit. Once I figure it out I’m out and I got in this because I wanted to set up several portfolio’s for each sector. If it’s this difficult I won’t use daily. I really wanted to use this platform to replace another but not happening as of now

  16. M1 usually gets a lot of good reviews because of its many different features. But few people speak on the functionality of the platform itself. The M1 app is not user friendly, it has so many different features that it becomes confusing as how to utilize the app. The pies are a bit confusing as well. There are no instructions to guide you on how to actually use and setup the features that you want. I have had many difficulties trying to figure out the app and customer service is nonexistent.

  17. Isaac Liu dice:

Authentication is extremely annoying. The app totally logs you out after a little bit of inactivity, and biometrics doesn’t pop up. So you have to enter your password. But M1 doesn’t sync up with Microsoft authenticator, so I have to go copy and paste it, which sometimes doesn’t work. On top of that they ask for recaptcha, which does nothing in terms of security but is an extra annoyance. Please make it easier for us to access our accounts!

  18. Lots of good features, but very annoying orientation behavior. I don’t want the app to auto-swap to graph view. Even if I did want the auto swap feature, it would be for landscape orientation… This should instead be an *optional* feature to swap upon rotation. From a UI/UX perspective, it would be better to just make a more prominent button to get to the graph view (and *add more features to the graph* to make it a more useful/informative screen).

  19. Ramil Ali dice:

This is definitely the most modern website/app in the history of online money/stock management. Love the user interface and speed But the User Experience is not there yet for example on their website I have to open 2-3 separate browser windows in order to see some data/numbers while everything can be on one page. I have emailed support and feedback department and have more UX ideas. Let’s see where it goes 🙂

  20. Best broker for new and long term investors. Sign up is simple and easy, format is easy to understand and use. The pie system is great for seeing where you’re over or under valued in sectors and individual holdings, and comes with an easy rebalancing option. Haven’t tried the debit card or the borrow feature so no review on those. Overall, an easy to use and understand platform that makes it easy for both newbies and long time investors to manage their holdings.

  21. Pros: Nice interface. Pies + fractional shares make balancing automated! Setup was easy, but… Cons : The initial setup/tutorial mode was a bit confusing. Required setting up a pie of at least 3 securities and preventing creating a new one. Until I finished the “tutorial” it wasn’t clear that I could do either of those things.

  22. I really like this app but strongly feel like you should be able to move holdings from one pie container to another if you made the pies yourself. Equally frustrating is the account graph. Day View is a straight line… All View shows deposits more than account performance. Should be able to filter out deposits as well as see performance at different points on the graph by dragging your finger along it. That stuff aside.. it’s a great app and I really like it.

  23. Great website and app. Setup was easy and provides several options to invest as well as their own methods. Was able to make a personalized investment chart and enjoy watching it grow. Only wish there was more than one trade window, even with the premium you get only 2. Overall great for a beginner like myself.

  24. OFTEN crashes, locking up your money/securities. The interface is clunky, and some operations are extremely annoying (rearranging slices of pies)… I wish they could improve the user interface. When contacting customer support via email, I was simply ignored. Basically I was ghosted by their customer support. Great idea for an app, potential high risk from poor functionality. The no fees and fractional shares are the only reason I use this app.

  25. Really decent so far. Does exactly what I want it to. Only conplaints are mostly where some information is kept –Dividend % for stocks you own, can find paid-out but not just the number, and the inability to resize the actual list of holdings. I can only see three at a time and I’d like to just zoom out and see them all for a quick view of what’s good/bad.

  26. The app seems a little lacking compared to what I’ve seen about the PC version. But very nice and easy to use! Honestly, couldn’t make the entire process easier; pick what you want to invest in and how much(%), deposit some money, and they do the rest! The M+ trial works well and is very tempting. I’ve been with Wells Fargo for 19 years and I’m considering fully switching. 🤔 Only annoyance is needing to sign in with my fingerprint everytime I switch to my calculator(or other app) and back.

  27. Easy to use works great if you don’t watch the markets, I would say this is more for people that do safe trades, a set it and forget it kind of thing. I Lost thousands few different times because it takes way to long to make trades. In a crash you will loose most of your money just waiting to get out, in my opinion. App is great user friendly just not for the people who would want to get out of a trade in a timely fashion.

  28. Everything is fantastic. I have used everything, Robinhood, Stash, Acorns etc. And BY FAR M1 Finance is the best. I really like the user interface, the options for investing, the customer service is incredible, they respond super fast. I will definitely be sticking with them. I’m happy with the experience I have had so far. If I could give them 10 stars I would.

  29. Matt dice:

Very cool app, could use some improvements. Building pies is a lot of fun and it’s one of my favorite ways to build out portfolios now. That said, app has annoying bug where it won’t let me edit pies that are inside multiple portfolios often and throws an error of “this edit would create more than 100 slices” but each is in a portfolio of less than 100 positions. Getting them to add tickers has been hopeless so far as well. Otherwise, they’re adding lots of cool features and I’m a big fan.

  30. It’s a nice user friendly app. Easy to use. I also love that it has little to no fees involved with basic investing. The only thing I wish they would fix is that it shows how much my investment has grown from when it began. But it doesn’t show the percentage of gain over the past year just with interest. It includes my deposits in the equation.

  31. The initial pie slice system is a little confusing at first, but once you learn how to use it great investment system. No fees, automated investment, good for those who aren’t planning to hover over a keyboard most of the day. Looking forward to seeing how the financing and bank like functions are implemented.

  32. I love the concept behind this brokerage account but I’m finding it extremely cumbersome to set up. The user interface is not intuitive at all, and it’s extremely difficult to navigate between pages on both the mobile and desktop app. I think the developers are attempting to “walk me through” choosing stocks when I just want to be able to view and manage my separate pies, to play with building my own ETF’s without the handholding. I’m hesitant to fund my account until it’s easier to use.

  33. The changes are ok. I like the dark mode, but maybe the color palette could use some work. I kind of enjoy the glow effect on the greenish yellowish hues though; it’s different. Also before, I liked how when we were managing our pies, that when we clicked on the stock we would go to its profile page. I don’t like how now when we click on it it gives us the garbage icon to delete it. The way to delete it before felt fine.

  34. Pros: Free trading, great interface, easy to use. Cons: Even as it’s geared for dollar cost averaging it needs functions for limit orders to maximize returns (this is a big one), could only trade 1-2 times a day at set periods, there should be a function to turn off automatic investing altogether when you sell an entire position. Downgrading to 1 star because I never received a reply after months to 2 emails I sent the support team. Not acceptable.

  35. Absolutely one of the best apps available for investing. Easy to navigate, sleek interface, amazing platform, awesome portfolio management, and fractional shares are just some of the features. I don’t think I’ve even begun to scratch the surface it’s potential.

  36. The concept “borrowed” largely from Motif Investing is slightly improved but fails in implementation. The terminology is confusing with slices being bigger than pies and a portfolio being comprised of slices or something of that sort. The app is maybe a 3-star but THE CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS THE WORST IN HISTORY. After having sent 6-7 emails for an issue, I have rec’d 1 email back for which I promptly provided info within 10 mins. Since then, NOTHING. IS BEEN 2 WEEKS!! Lost Any potential gains!

  37. I really like the app, but it does not have all the things a more advanced user needs. Having to pay for 2 daily trade windows is ludicrous. When something you invested in drops after a window you miss an opportunity. As well you should be able to do some options but you can’t on their platform. At the minimum you should be able to sell covered calls and cash secured puts on your positions. Because the limitations Im debating transferring my account. If you don’t need them its a great platform.

  38. I use both the Android version on my SM-G935V (S7 Edge) phone, and the web-based beta version on my desk computer (with two 4K UHD monitors). Each version has pros and cons and those are not always shared between the versions. But, since we have both, then our tools are that much better. I love the charting and drawing tools. I love the community. I am not happy with buying and selling. Plus, there are no OPTIONS trading features, yet. The alert feature is very good. Overall, it is the best free.

  39. Nearly impossible to get a hold of support or a live person, only automated emailed replies. I have never traded, a newbie and I thought with their user friendly looking interface, more visual and not alot overwhelming numbers and data so a newbie like me can absorb. Or maybe I am in over my head and probably should learn more about the process myself and not expect someone to hold my hand! User interface I do like on the app, hand held device browser access is really bad, pc side is good.

  40. I use M1 for the Roth IRA and it is amazing. Its super easy to understand and gives you many options to diversify, and creates diverse portfolios for you to use so you’re set. However, I don’t use any other function on the app and it can be pretty suffocating seeing all the other tabs and the advertising for the plus.
