  1. Very basic and needs some additional features. I should be able to add loyalty cards beyond what is in the predefined list. I should be able to add pictures of the cards if need be. For example Costco needs to see the card each time…. The bar code isn’t enough. To truly replace my wallet this app needs some work. Good start though.

  2. Each and every single transaction is blocked by the app the first attempt with a message stating “Verify yourself”. This occurs while the phone unlocked. I verify, then in the second attempt it always goes through. I reached out to Google support but only received copy/paste messages that are 100% irrelevant to the issue. Google support does not even try to acknowledge this verification issue. Moving forward, I will not be using this and hope people read the negative feedback as it is all true.

  3. Overall works well. A few features I’d like to see added to improve usability: 1) Ability to search loyalty cards/passes/tickets. I’ve got like 50, and scrolling to find one when in the checkout line at a store is not fun. 2) In conjunction with above, ability to sort loyalty cards alphabetically, most recent, oldest. 3) Maybe have groups/labels, i.e. loyalty, tickets, medical, etc 4) Ability to add a store that doesn’t exist in the predefined list.

  4. This is a great product and a lot of ways, but on my Pixel 7 it works in a much more irritating fashion than ony Pixel 6, and I don’t know if it’s a software change or something about the hardware. It constantly prompts me to unlock my phone, even if I have the wallet app open and a card selected. I have to tap into a card and go down one layer deeper before it will function. It didn’t used to work this way, and the new method of doing this is frustrating. Please go back to the old way Google!

App looks really good and it seems to work really well until you get into the big hassles that are there for no reason. Biggest issue I have is I’ll have my phone unlocked ready to pay and then when I try to pay it says I need to unlock my card again. I understand that you don’t want people to be able to buy something with a screen that’s been unlocked for too long. But maybe you should have a passcode pop up whenever you hit that time limit. Very frustrating, other issues as well

  6. I had zero problems with this app until I had to factory reset my phone. Now I can’t add my Chase credit card. I’ve tried resetting and clearing everything and working through the Chase site to add it, and nothing is working. I keep getting told that my card details aren’t correct, when I’ve tripled checked. This is super frustrating for me.

  7. My account was suspended when I tried to add a new card. I went through the process of sending ID and address verification but that was WEEKS ago. Over a month. I have not heard back and I’ve reached out to various support emails about it. I haven’t heard from any of them. Many of my subscriptions can only be managed through the play store so I’m screwed if I want to renew my subscriptions. Support is non-existent for this service.

Google wallet is very easy to use. I like that I can have everything at my fingertips. The best feature is unlike competitor apps I don’t have to have the app up front in order to use credit cards – just unlock the phone and hover the phone over the payment device. Very easy, very convenient, very secure.

  9. Works well on my phone for tickets & purchases. Tried on new Galaxy Watch 5, but no dice. It failed to set up using one of the cards that works on the phone. Maybe something detailing what actually failed would be helpful, before I contact my bank (as suggested) for help. As a very experienced developer, I believe there’s a very unpleasant place in the afterlife for programmers who write non-specific error messages (or multiple choice msgs asking the poor user to figure it out).

  10. Firstly, lack of security. Everyone can access my loyalty cards or passes, if the phone is unlocked. Secondly, harder to find required card if its without a logo. Due to a bigger card size(comparing to old version), need more to scroll. Thirdly, there is no possibility to sort cards automatically at least by name. I have added a lot of loyalty cards, and had to spend additional time to sort. Also, it would be useful to have a separate travel passes from loyalty cards.

  11. Not user friendly at all. I can’t seem to save anything that is not already “wired” for wallet. Put a link in Gmail to make it easy to pull in tickets and boarding passes. This is very frustrating to use. No link in Google Photos to bring in screen shots. Here is an example of poor instructions: 3. To turn on data sharing, under “General,” turn “smart features and personalization in other Google products” on or off. ????? Really, turn them on or off. Holy smokes this is bad.

Terrible. I have a concert tmrw night that was pushed back forever ago due to covid. The tix were in my expired passes for months. Then they updated the app last week and now they are gone. I can still open the link to them from the original email and try to redownload them but it wont let me because it says it’s already in my wallet. Even gives me the option to open it in the wallet app. But when you hit it nothing happens and the expired passes are still empty. Thanks Google!

  13. Really annoying having to swipe though pages and pages of cards to get to the one you want. The old version handled this much better. *UPDATE* I’m using Google Wallet, not GPAY. The old version had an option where you could display your cards vertically, and smaller, so it was quicker to select the card you wanted if you have a lot of cards. Now, if you have 30+ cards, it takes ages to scroll through them all to get to the card you want.

The application works quite well sadly the issue I have with the application is security. Within the application you can turn NFC on but not off within the application. How unlikely for a person retrieve information on an unlocked phone is low, there is still a chance it can happen. For instance you finished paying with the Google wallet and you put your phone away, if the phone is accidentally unlocked someone can access your information even though that is complicated. There’s still a chance.

  15. Maxime dice:

+: Very performant and practical app. +: Being able to store my fidelity cards is a huge help. -: Security is too low. For security reasons I would like to disable the feature that enables paying with the app closed, but I can’t. I can’t ask for the app to systematically verify my identity (via the phone lock for example) each time I pay either. -: The app is supposed to show tickets received by mail, but this only works in rare cases. For example, I’ve never seen my train tickets in Wallet.

  16. I have used the app for several years and has been great for me. But in the last week it has stopped working, I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app, updated my phone, cleared and cache and data saved on it and still no luck. I try to open the wallet and it just comes up with a white box with a loading circle inside that doesn’t stop. Very annoying as this was my go-to option for paying and had my passes and loyalty cards on. Please help!

Setting up Google Wallet was quite simple, and confirmation from my bank saying everything was good to go was quick and painless. However, I’ve never, ever had a payment work using my phone to tap. It ALWAYS declines without fail . All my info matches, and I’m unlocking my phone, too. What’s the problem here? I’m using a Pixel 6 pro. Seems like a convenient thing, but the functionality just isn’t there. Judging by the poor rating for this app, I’m not alone in thinking this.

  18. Ash Wood dice:

I’ve been using Google Pay, then Wallet for quite a long time but it won’t let me make payments anymore. Everything required is checked, turned on and up-to-date. My loyalty cards still work but I can’t use it for contactless payments. This is a real pain as now I have to carry cards. If I can’t use it for payments and have to carry cards, I may as well just delete the app. Very disappointing.

  19. The app works as described. BUT there are lots of important missing features. First of all, unless you have stock android, you cannot disable the purchase of a small amount while your phone is locked. Second, there should be an option to ask the user every time for purchase confirmation. It is very for someone to take your phone while using it and tap it on a terminal.

  20. I was so pleased with this app until my phone was stolen. The app doesn’t have native biometric access. And as long as NFC is switched on, one can even perform purchase transactions without unlocking the phone. So, the security that Google has implemented so tightly with multi-factor authentication, etc on other apps, seems to have been overlooked with this app. There should be more authentication beyond just unlocking the phone with biometrics and/or a patterns, pins, etc.

  21. Shak B dice:

This used to be my go to app for contactless payments when it was still Google pay. Unfortunately as soon as it changed to google wallet ive had nothing but issues. It has a mind of its own and only works when it wants to! Not ideal when you don’t have other forms of payment with you and also embarrassing! Dont know what has changed but definitely not reliable since the switch over. My app is all updated and everything is up to date on my phone so must be a bug in the new wallet version.

  22. I wish I could arrange cards order. Also, they should fix smart unlock with It. It makes you miss the first attempt every time… only then It asks to really unlock, which is a pain in the a*s specially when the machine has to start the whole process again, making It too annoying to use. quick fix is to disable location or Bluetooth(whatever your smart unlock depends on) before the payment, blocking the phone and then unlocking. only then it will pass the card on the first try.

  23. Fantastic when it works, but very frustrating when it doesn’t. For example, inability to purchase or recharge transit passes. You open a support case and they say they’ll get back to you in 24-48 hours and they just never get back to you. I’ve got cases months old with a status of ‘in progress’. If you escalate it they again just says they’ll get back to you in 24-48 hours which again doesn’t happen.

  24. Months on, still terrible. It’s amazing that Google hasn’t sorted this out yet. Multiple reviews point out that the updated app seems to require some sort of internet connection and tries to update the cards in some form, causing a delay. Only when in flight mode is this problem absent. Despite this the Google team keep posting responses saying an internet connection isn’t required, when there is clearly some issue going on. So far below the quality of a Google app; embarrassing.

  25. Rubbish on a Wear OS device (Tag Connected). Every so often (possibly after an update) I can’t use the app on my watch. I get a message about setting Google Pay as the default. The only way I’ve found to make this work is to uninstall the app from the watch and then reinstall before it will prompt me to continue on my phone at which point I can then re-enable it. Happened 3 times so far. Cannot find a better way to do this.

  26. Many years of Google pay on Sony Xperia, absolutely flawless. Just changed to Google pixel 6 pro & Google wallet – saved cards have disappeared, can’t add them back as ‘there is currently a problem’ error. Very frustrating! Would have thought a Google app on a Google phone would have been perfect, alas no. Would appreciate a fix or some method to reset & then set up again.

  27. I always use Google wallet it’s always been great for me. One feature I would like to see though is the ability to add site safety cards for those in the building trade. I have to carry more than half a dozen cards to be able to access sites or to show I’m qualified to operate certain MEWPs. As the physical wallet is becoming more and more obsolete it would be good to have this feature too.

  28. Installed with high hopes- it is Google I thought, got to be good. I’ve tried using it on three occasions so far and it’s failed each time. Ah well – just carry my cards then. 🤔 UPDATE as requested. I’m using Google Wallet in the UK I open the app – I’m on-line and the screen shows the card and a wireless symbol – I hold the phone next to the terminal and – nothing happens.

  29. App is unnecessarily restrictive. Trying to move loyalty cards over after getting a Pixel phone and find you can’t add notes to your cards or custom loyalty cards that ‘arent supported’. It’s effectively a barcode reader/generator. Why is there not an option to manually add a card? Or add a photo? I can only assume this is a conscious choice by Google, to hamper usability because they don’t get the same amount of data if a card isn’t supported. Disappointing.

  30. Tom Crisp dice:

Similar to other experiences, Google Pay worked flawlessly for years, then around the switch-over to Google Wallet it has become completely unreliable. Under the contactless set-up all permissions are given, but over 50% of the time the app just won’t work, meaning sometimes having to ask check-out staff if I can put items back which is incredibly embarrassing and a waste of time. Can’t trust it now and reverted to physical cards. (App is Google Wallet and using in the UK)

  31. My cards worked flawlessly through Google pay. Ever since the transition to Google wallet, it tries to use every single card at once – even if I have one card specifically pulled up and selected. There’s only been a handful of times that it’s actually processed correctly, and the trend is so random that I cannot figure out why it has worked for those few times. As a result, I now need to carry my physical wallet with me everywhere, which completely negates the point of having a mobile wallet.

  32. A little larger payments may be declined, when an unlocked device cannot be unlocked (seen the pattern button only later). Or does the latest version address this bug? Also the tutorial doesn’t cover this optional confirmation step; does one have to do it close to the terminal or is network connection required? Somehow none of this is being properly explained in-app.

  33. *this includes Gpay. I RARELY get notifications after I pay for something using contactless. This has been an issue for a long time. I’ll get them sometimes, but mostly not at all. I rely on this to help me remember to add a purchase to my checkbook app. It’s very inconvenient that this app can’t do this simple thing.. I have had this problem on a Pixel 4xl, Pixel 6 pro, and Samsung S22 ultra over a few years. This REALLY needs to be fixed.

  34. A great app to keep my gift cards organized and once I see if they actually scan once they are entered, it would rate better. The issue here, they put a limit on the number of cards you can enter, which makes it harder and they don’t transfer easily to Google pay so you can’t use them to pay online so really, there is no point to having this option. I thought once I entered them I’d be able to finally, use them through Google pay to pay online…not so. Kinda pointless app when I have Google pay

“Existing plastic cards cannot be added”, during adding a myki > kinda crrriiinnnggee. My problem is I cannot add existing mykis during the add a transport card selection. Otherwise, app seems fine. Google Wallet, Australia. Also, the only way I can even still read the response is because I screen capped it earlier. I like how I can easily access other peoples dev replies though and not my own in clear plain site, very useful and well thought out. Yikes responses.

  36. Anne Bell dice:

A highly functional app but recently discovered I get a $2 charge if I give permission to Google Wallet to process a payment in a web browser. Not cool. Now I have to dig and find the setting to disable that. Edit: adding a star based on developer feedback. Would be even better if temporary authorizations were clearly marked as such.

  37. The worst, I had high hopes for this on the sense2 but it doesn’t work at all. Every card I have it says it doesn’t support, yet it supports it just fine on pixel 7pro and also when used with Fitbit pay. It doesn’t allow you to revert back to Fitbit pay either, now this watch is completely useless for contactless payments. Very unhappy. If you’re using Fitbit pay do not upgrade to wallet!! Be warned!

  38. Not very secure app, since while in a bus (public transport), using phone normally, for messages and google maps, wallet just decided is ok to pay instead of me. I have to mention that app was NOT open, nor was ever open during that bus trip or even more, during the day! I think this is a major security breach if every time there is a NFC active around the phone, the app (without being open) decides it is ok to confirm the purchase!

  39. Jan Blake dice:

I just installed it, couldn’t use it, so I’m uninstalling it. The lady at the shop was kind enough to let me try for 7 or 8 times, and it didn’t work. When I tried to pay it just beeped, but the transaction was not executed, and no errors were shown in the apps/pos. I can’t give a negative rating and I think one star is way too much.

  40. Edit: after several months it looks like the “Updating” loop has finally been addressed. Original review: Latest version stuck on the “Google Pay is updating right now” issue I’ve seen all over. On OxygenOS 12, uninstalling seems to actually downgrade, and I can interact with it again, though it seems to disable itself now and again. Tap works on either version, so that’s good. Overall, very janky experience that needs fixing before I could rate any higher.
