I do like the push headlines for important news stories, and updated info as they come out, I would like to get pertinent information as it becomes available, but more often than not, the “live broadcast updates ” from Turner or Abbot, etc, just shows the thumbnail with the play icon, when pressed, all I get is the continuous spinning line of ‘loading..trying..looking..’ but not being able to play the video/news clip. Sometimes an earlier clip on the same page will play well, but not the 1st 1
Lots of improvements so thanks for that! Still have issues when selecting a notification about an article and not being able to find it on the app. Also , the push notifications are being cut off so where I could normally see a preview for what the article is about I can now only see half of the first line.
After reading some reviews well i kinda wish the video would play like others but this app does the contrary on my phone. It buffers the video and never lets me play the video and this had been going on for a while. I even went to buy a new phone (LG G8)a month ago for the same purpose thinking my phone was the issue but that’s not the case. The app continually keeps failing in that part. Please fix this issue because I’ll hate to uninstall and start over with a different news app.
I have had this app for a while, but this week 4/14/2020, every news story there’s a pop up box saying to read the new “rules” read them once, but it won’t go away! If I hit the dismiss it restarted the original app but still won’t let me read the story. So I’ve installed and hopefully, Re-installing will fix the problem.
A search option sure would be nice. Another needed feature would be the extended forecast with chance of rain. Looking at my saved locations I can see some days have a chance of rain,but can’t tell how much. When planning things a couple of days out it’s a huge difference if there is a 30% chance of rain as opposed to 80% and that’s not clear on the extended forecast for locations. A screenshot of the extended forecast shown on newscast would really be helpful.
App works smoothly and haven’t had too many bugs. But what is infuriating is when you close a video in a news story and it pops back up as soon as you start scrolling. If I close the video keep the video closed, at least it gives the option to turn off video auto-play.
This app SUCKS. Anytime I see a news article link, I open it, it automatically opens in the app instead of the webpage (which isn’t a bad thing in itself), but then it never loads the desired article. EVER!! I always have to dig around for it. Like damn bro just show me the sht I actually wanted to read instead of bringing me to some random most recent news story. takes all of 2 minutes to find what I came for. and by then I’m over it and dont care anymore. get it together please
I do not like that I have to go back after reading the article from Notification and clear the Notification. This is the only app that does this. PLEASE FIX!
Although I love this station and those who report the up-to-date news I’m looking for, this app is horrible. The videos never play, or skip if they do play, and it’s just frustrating when I’m trying to find out what is going on in Houston. Of course, the ads play just fine, but when it comes to the news, the app is subpar. I just feel like they could do better when it comes to the app. Otherwise, the station and the reporting is great!
I don’t watch the news, but use to like getting notifications on my phone so I could check out stories I was interested in. The problem is, now when I click on the notification to open the app and read more, it doesn’t take me to that headline. I don’t have time to scroll through all of the stories to find what I’m looking for. That defeats the purpose of the notifications. If this isn’t fixed soon, I’ll probably just delete the app and choose another source.
This app uses serious data. I stopped watching the videos because of ads. It is still my #1 data app (16.75 GB for this month). I scroll the headlines & read some stories. I watch few videos because I can often scroll the story before the ad is done. The only thing I can think is that it’s using data in the background. Bitminer? Update: I downloaded it again today to compare with channels 2 & 11 news. 2 used 42MB, 11 used 21MB, & 13 used 788. Amazing.
Works good when it wants but damn. It’s frustrating when you really want to see the news. It’s freezing constantly hope they fix it sooner than later. Other than that BIG FATAL FLAW that’s about it. Expect more honestly good new bad interface that freezing nonstop.
Most of the time when you click on a “breaking news” notification it never opens up the article on the app. Usually just opens the last article you had open. Takes me 5 clicks on the notification for it to finally show up. If it shows up on the first click take about a good minute for it to load
Great source of news. However too many push notifications. Grammar errors. Pictures are sent with no explanation, so I just right swipe the picture. Silly notifications like, “Watch the 6 o’clock news now on 13 or on your device” must be to fill a quota.
Great News Team, Worst app ever. Only works half the time. Constant connectivity issues. Makes me want to smash my phone in tiny pieces. I am thinking about actually moving away ftom Houston so I can find a good local news app. Boston maybe, I bet they have a good news app, and I can get out of this crazy heat.
This app is so frustrating I want to throw my phone sometimes. There is no search feature, you can only scroll. So you’ll see a story on the news, they say go to the app, you go and you can’t find it. I have zero interest in scrolling through 30 stories to find anything. And they on have 2 categories. Sports, then your area of Houston. That’s worthless. Because half the stories have nothing to do with a specific side of town. Why do I keep this app on my phone? It’s a source of stress.
I Love this app! It has all the breaking news and the option to watch the live video or scroll down is pretty cool. I haven’t had any issues with any section (news, video, weather) and I first installed this app on my phone and now I added it to my tablet. Best News App
This app sucks… all it does it advertise and wants you agree to twrmaand conditions where you are forced to agree to use. They do not ever give local updates and not informative at all. Very poor in the way it was put together and not useful at all. The videos do not play, but the commercials sure do.
Great content great Channel. Horrible app. been using for years. Since Android 9 and now 10, video won’t load 4 minutes. And when it does it won’t play. Breaking news stories once you clear the notification you can find in the app feed
I would give 5 stars but every single story you click has up to 30 seconds of ads. I understand the need for ads, but you should only have to see 1 or 2 ads, not every single time you click on a story! I usually just back out and read about a story elsewhere.
Best of the news aps. Easy format. Just wish it contained more stories. The end seems to come too soon, otherwise you far outshine other local news aps through presentation, ease of use and news contents. Thanks for all your efforts.
It says it all right under the ABC13 name… owned by Disney! I feel bed because abc13 gives most up to date local news(only reason I keep it) but fearmongering outweighs the “real news”… They gotta stay in line with the current narrative or be canceled I can only assume. UPDATE: monkeypox is only spread by exchanging bodily fluids. Stop grooming our children and monkeypox disappears!
Good with notifications but when you open the notification its blank. Have to open app but before opening the notification is frozen and doesn’t let app open right away. Have to completely close everything and reopen app to read about notifications. SMH. If it gets fix maybe put back on cell.
I like the content but they’ve added so much more advertising that it’s a distraction. You can’t watch the news videos anymore without being forced to watch a 30 second video advertisement. I just don’t have time to waste on watching ads. I only want to see the news.
when clicking on a news blurb with a vidoe you have NO OPTION to close the annoying advert. In short, you are forcing the ad to be played on my device. Sorry but your news isnt that great to have to deal with that.
Complete waste of space on my phone. Constantly sends notifications, but they are just blank pages. If you’re gonna bother me with all these notifications, at least show the damn story!!!!

when you click to read the story the video auto plays and I do not like that feature. I have tried to click the X to exit the video and it continues to play. I use to love the app until that started.
This was a great app until they brought on these forced 15 sec commercials that come on EVERY article. Even if you just want to READ a simple story they force you to watch an ad and there is no mute button. On top of that it’s THE SAME ad! This is unacceptable. A corporate news agency doesn’t need all of this ad money. This is level of greed is pathetic. I understand maybe one ad per 5 or maybe even 3 articles. I understand watching 5 seconds of an ad with the option to skip…
I’m from there, so, I keep up on things like crime in certain areas and Weather,So Incase I need to go back I know what expect again.
Ads will play but videos won’t. If you click on a notification you can only read that story… You have to close the app to read others. Other than that it’s exactly what you’d expect from a local news app.
Why can’t I hear the clips that are playing until I actually click on the story? Then I have to watch an ad every time!! Either let the news fed be heard as I scroll, or have one ad upon opening the app–not EVERY story I want to listen to.
What an awful app. From notifications, it opens to the last opened article instead. Does not play videos. Cannot share from the app. Uninstalling and selecting a different local news app.
The app is ok. I have the “Never autoplay videos” checked, but continually get blasted with autoplaying videos when I’m relaxing and reading the news story. Make the torture stop, please!! Thanks
Had persistent issues when posting news items to Facebook. Failed to post more often than it did post. Have deleted the app and am reloading to see if that helps. Otherwise it is of no use to me.
Was a 5 now a 2! Since last update every time I read a story and go back to app it takes me all the way back to first story. So I have to scroll back down to next story of interest. This is an annoying BUG! Please fix it.
My need to know of my hometown does not change even though I have moved. Also, the National and International info is welcomed. Most important is the weather updates as I still have property close to Surfside . The weather APP is Awesome. Thank you ABC13 and the incredible weather team
the ads are F-ing outta control starting over if you touch the screen or scroll. It drives my crazy! I will no longer use this app nor rely on ABC for the news as it’s clear you’re trying to shove your ads down my throat over what it is I wanted to read! bye
It’s great for reading what’s going on in Houston. But trying to watch the news live on the go, it’s HOT TRASH. I say this because I have downloaded this app on two different android phones and have had the same problem. The live comes on then crashes repeatedly. This is no good.
Great for news but the app has a glitch when I get a notification and click on it the app goes blank and crash. App has to be closed and opened again in order for it to work.
