Absolutely Horrible! Went through all the steps to verify bank account. Account was verified but then I was never able to send more than $1 to anyone. Just kept saying unable to process transaction, try later. Tried later same thing, over and over. Then they froze my account. I guess for too many tries?? Total waste of time! I’ll continue to use the other money apps that actually work.
Since the last update, the amount of information that is collected by Plaid to connect Venmo to the bank account is absurd. Collecting all transaction history, credit lines, locations, balances, investment accounts, in some cases SSN and employer and payroll information. Give me a break. Very poor privacy. There are far better alternatives out there. I’m happy to uninstall.
Really wish they would get rid of the public social features or at the very least not make it the home page. I just don’t care about monitoring other people’s transactions or want mine known. The app also does not work well while traveling internationally. It has lots of poor messages that create a terrible user experience. But the good part of the app is that it works well for basic money transfers in the US.
This app has been practically unusable for about year. The utility of the service is great but the app is a buggy mess. Constantly freezing and locking me out of any options beyond force closing and starting it up again. It is incredibly frustrating. I believe it likely has to do with the biometric lock I enabled, but I’m not risking security for usability. Fix your app!
I don’t usually leave reviews, but the Venmo app is so buggy, it’s just embarrassing. For several years now and across at least three different Pixel phones, the app almost always freezes after opening if I scroll even a little bit down my home screen feed. Seems like very basic pagination functionality that’s broken. Apart from that: show me my transactions first when I look at a contact, not the public feed (which is often empty)! After a transaction, show me that transaction in the list!C’mon
This is the worst app I have tried to use I downloaded the app and set everything up. The moment the card came, the account was suspended for no reason. I’ve been jumping through hoops to try and make it work, but their automated system just repeats itself about needing things that have already been done, multiple times. Got to the point that I wanted to cancel the whole thing, but it won’t let me cause it’s suspended. I’m just gonna delete the app and forget about it.
STAY AWAY!!! Wish I could give zero stars, it’s been almost 2 weeks, after multiple calls and emails, my account STILL hasn’t been unfrozen – all over a single transfer request, with me being the recipient. If you’re experiencing an emergency, like I am, and need the funds ASAP, don’t hold your breath. I would recommend using literally ANY other app- their customer service is so totally useless, they can’t even verify my email. Beyond ridiculous. Shameful.
Can’t reset password. Tried this a few years ago and it was a bad experience. Giving it another try and appear to be blocked from using. Developer link email bombed email app. Got a contact but it is like they really do not care if you use it or not. After several emails giving up. Not worth the trouble. They unfreeze account anyway. Go figure… Now can’t verify phone. Just not meant to be i guess.
I have used Venmo successfully until a few days ago when my payments would not go through. I’ve been trying to send Christmas money to my grandchildren and keep getting an error that it can’t go through. After 2 chats with live agents I got scripted identical answers. Their fix is for me to use a credit card instead of my checking account which will cost me a 3% fee. That’s not a fix. Very disappointing.
While it’s a convenient platform, it is constantly buggy and laggy. Right now I’m facing issues with the pin unlock. I’ll enter the pin correctly and the app will accept it, but it won’t redirect to the home page. I have to X out of the unlock page to get to where I want. This is basic stuff that should be caught in QA. Fixing all the bugs in the app should be at the top of the dev team’s to-do list.
Venmo charges for using credit card on top of credit card fees. But it’s too dangerous to use anything else because of their data breaches. UPDATE: Venmo responded to my review by listing the “anything else” options. As I stated, they are too dangerous to use because of data breaches. Only a credit card offers protection and does not compromise banking information in case of a breach. It appears that Venmo didn’t actually read my review.
A nightmare of inadequate navigation information and assumptions. A perfect example is this very page I’m on right now there is no send button and there is no indication as to where it is, hint: it is normally below the message so that when you finish a message you’re ready to touch the button to send it thank you very nothing
The app is horrible. I struggled with transferring money for 2 weeks. After attempt to pay, I received messages about issues, it happened every time when I tried to send money. Finally, my account was frozen and the support wasn’t very helpful. At the end of the day, venmo support suggest to not use theirs app (!) because they do not know how to make my account able to send money. Nothing works here…
Venmo is the worse app I’ve ever dealt with. They froze my account before I could ever use it. Jumped through all their hoops to unfreeze it. Verified that it was unfrozen, and then when I went to transfer money to my bank account found its still frozen. I only wish I could give them the minus 5 score they deserve. As soon as I get this figured out (again) I won’t be able to close my account fast enough! Meanwhile my $100s are out of my reach. VENMO SUCKS!
Doesn’t even work. I tried to make a payment and won’t go through. Tried calling Venmo and they said due to security restrictions they’re unable to determine the issue. Don’t they have an IT department that can look into this? Already verified everything on my end with the bank. Issue is with Venmo’s system. Not sure if it’s a technical or security issue.
It was extremely hard to get it completely set up and I was unaware that my bank wasn’t verified until the next day nor did I recieve verification codes til two days later. You can’t reach anyone to talk to it’s a huge runaround and then once it is straightened out all the money that was there is all of the sudden no longer there!!!!!! Nor in your account! Be careful make sure you jump all the hoops and are fast to keep up or you will lose money.
Don’t use this app. Cash App is immensely better! Takes three days for a transfer INTO Venmo to hit your bank, which, if there aren’t enough funds by the time it goes through, its functionally like bouncing a check and comes with all the fees from your bank and a reversed charge to Venmo as well! So then you owe both parties money! In this age of instant banking there is no reason for it. Choose Cash App instead! Transfers both ways are instant and you never have to worry about an overdraft.
This app sucks. I downloaded it a month ago and it said that the zip code on my info is incorrect. It isn’t. I figured maybe they were having technical issues. No. A month later I’m getting the same thing after being told I’ve been gifted 5$ by Venmo. Thanks for the fake 5$. You should invest it into fixing your technical issues. Never had this problem with Cash App
The UX on the final confirmation screen is pretty terrible. Initially you see Venmo Balance and a title underneath with the Header “Turn on for purchase.” Only if you click on the full refund link does it explain what you’re turning on. I thought it was too use the Venmo Balance, but it was too enable purchase of goods and services, which was not what I was doing. A clearer header/contextual text is needed here.
There have been a number of instances where I felt the app didn’t make things simple form the user. App makes it easy for user to receive money but doesn’t remind user there are additional steps to use the account to pay/transfer $. Screen layout also makes it look like the payment protection toggle should be slid over in order to use balance. I realize PayPal owns Venmo but I have definitely been more pleased with PayPal. Venmo is not user friendly.
This app works for me. I started using it because it was convenient for someone else. It’s quick. I don’t like the charges for the quick transfer, but I get it. Thank goodness I have a second bank where I don’t mind waiting a business day. November 29th, 2022 update on my review: I have had issues with Venmo for the past week. Receiving messages that I’m not able to complete this transaction at this time when it comes to quick transfer from my bank/person to person transfer. Wow!!!
Good but too much going on. Payment options and execution very clear and straightforward. However UI is very confusing. The list of social messages from the network, the first thing you see on the screen, is useless to me. But there is no way to disable. Instead, I’d like to see a history of my payments and this is difficult to get. The purchases switch activate fees for the receiver, but the UI doesn’t say that. There is a lack of transparency on key information for payments
It’s convenient to have but the app is super buggy, help is almost non-existent. Support staff are nice enough but useless. Note that if you have more than 1 bank account, the app will always default to the last account used, with no “are you sure” notices. For better or worse, transfers are processed immediately when you click Standard, so there’s no cancelling. It still takes days to hit your account, however. Selling out to PayPal was the kiss of death. Long live the monopoly!
The recent UI updates are counterintuitive when it comes to user experience. Payment history is now located below pending transactions. I have a long list of pending requests sent to other people, so I have to scroll a long way to even see my recent history. The history doesn’t display notes either – you have to click into the transaction in order to see notes, and click a second time to leave a comment. Clicking back brings me to the top of the pending list again. So very annoying.
Haven’t had any problems ever in the years I’ve had Venmo (hope I’m not jinxing myself🤞🏽). Payments/transfers to others are quick and easy – except for the actual transfer period to a bank account, which can go faster if you pay a fee but I like to keep all my money lol. The interface or design is simple enough. And it’s a free app/ service, so what more can you ask for (ok, well I would like more emoji choices 😜)? So far, no complaints.
UI gets less usable with every update. Now the list of completed transactions only shows the dollar amount and the person who sent/received money. If you want to know what a transaction was for, you have to manually open it, and if it wasn’t the transaction you were looking for, then you get bumped back up to the top of the list again when you exit the transaction info page. Highly inconvenient. Barely usable.
App is really buggy and setup takes forever. If your account ever gets locked, good luck! You’ll need to jump through hoops and send photos of your license and bank statement. Nothing invasive or sus about that! Support response time is whenever they’re feeling it. And since you need to unlock the account to close it, you’ll do what it takes. Worst app I have ever dealt with, hands down.
This app is useless, it didn’t work for me, trying to send money, it keeps saying that ( there was an issue with your payment). Tried 4 different cards and debit card, still the same, I even tried the venmo website on my laptop computer, but didn’t work. I’m start to think it is the venmo system itself is the problem and reading people’s review seems I’m not the only one having issues, it would have been convenient if this is working properly. It is actually deserved zero star.
Hand down the worst “virtual banking” experience. They have the worst customer service options I’ve ever seen and they ZERO way to fix any issues or problems other then a terrible designed automotive system. The automated system has 4 total options. 2 at the beginning and 2 after you select the first option and none of them are actually helpful. The only way to talk to an actual person is send in a form and wait God knows how long hoping that they get a hold of you. God I wish I had more letters
Decent app, but a sleepy move in the latest update. To push adoption of their so called “purchase protection” (really just a blatant attempt to extort money from it’s users) every time now, there is a UI load delay when completing an outgoing transaction. Without showing the page is still loading, if you try to click “complete” when it first appears, you will actually be clicking the toggle for “purchase protection”. No, i don’t want to turn on purchase protection for my half of the check… 😤
Will be downgrading to an older version for two main reasons since the redesign; 1) Transactions no longer show account balance for each purchase, making it harder to track my spending. 2) The “Me” page with all my purchases will reload the entire page each time I look at a single transaction, sending me to the top, making it harder to keep track of my expenses. Both reasons severely detriment my ability to use the app, switching to an older version for now until this gets fixed.
Can’t see requested payments. Just got an email saying two ofy requests have been declined. My friend doesn’t know what happened, and I can’t see these requests to re-instate them or remind him. The only time I get a notification to remind someone is whenever Venmo thinks I need one apparently. This used to be a feature, I do not know where it went. One of my biggest pet peeves is apps limiting functionality. That just tells me you have bad app design. Time for me to switch apps.
I gave it a 5 star in 2021 but now the app is SOOOOO glitchy. It constantly freezes up on me and I have to restart the app over and over again. It freezes up when scrolling through transactions then turns black. Super frustrating. And reaching out to customer service is an absolute joke. They have no idea what I’m talking about even for the most simplest issues. I haven’t even reached out to them regarding this issue, it’s always the same. If I didn’t need this service for business I wouldn’t.
App freezes when loading the “between you” list of payments. You keep making it harder and harder to see payment details at-a-glance. Some of us rely on the descriptions and now we have to tap on each…individual…payment… Just to read them. Also, bring back the loading indicator when you make a payment – it’s so weird to tap a button and have nothing happen untill it suddenly jumps to the “completed” state.
Good luck if your account is frozen. I sent all my information, it was verified, and my account is still frozen. I’ve tried to call in to support to get it fixed and the support system is all AI and keeps referring you back to their website, which refers you to their number and back and forth again. I even called in to my bank to see if they had requested venmo freeze my account, which they hadn’t. I can’t give a rating about anything else because I haven’t been able to use it.
If there was an option to give less than one star, I’d give it. After six months of confusing instructions and numerous emails back and forth, I still haven’t received my $10 sign up incentive. Customer service has been friendly, but absolutely ineffective. I’ve never been as frustrated with any other banking service as I have been with Venmo. I expected more from a company connected to PayPal. 🙄
Works well for money transfers. But why would I want to see money transfers of other people, many of whom I don’t even know?? This is a ridiculous feature. Fortunately, ypu can make my transfers private by changing the settings, but I can still see other people’s transfers. (BTW, with a recent upgrade, my transfers became visible again and I had to change it back to private, a second time.
Sux. Serves its purpose, most of the time. I can’t understand why it doesn’t automatically update the balance after transferring money to my outside bank account. I have to always pull down to refresh. Seems silly. We can buy crypto and now something about donations or something, but basic functioning fixes might be more helpful to the end user than frequent new features (which generally come with new bugs, pushing other needed fixes to the bottom of the list).
I love venmo for the convenience for sure. One thing I’m experiencing s lot as if late is the message “there was an issue with you payment please try again later”. This happens usually when I try to pay from account, and then when I switch to pay from card it’ll work. Cards get frauded and aren’t always available. This inconvenience made me Kate with rent twice!! So while being amazing and fast and easy, it’s still not 100% reliable.
As an app that allows u to transfer money quickly to another person, it works just fine. That being said this thing has alot of issues. They market it as the future if banking and being able to do so much, but more often than not it does very very poorly. Can’t add funds without a huge several day delay, several ATMs add an additional service charge because it’s a venmo card. Venmo has the foundation of a great banking app. Unfortunately it’s execution is lacking.
