The only big issue, that I have, is that when watching certain anime (on multiple occasions), it starts out free and before I could even finish, they end up being premium content. This I don’t mind but at the same time, is frustrating because of the fact, that I’m cutoff from finishing. Then have to look for something else to watch, on the app. Other than that, I love the app and have been using it for years now. I just wish, that this would stop happening, as much as it does.
Having 5 back-to-back 25 second long ads is just foul. Not to mention the ads can be the same one each time. Wanna watch the same ad 5 times over without pause? This doesn’t just happen once per episode, it happens repeatedly through each episode. Plus dubbed anime, an accessibility feature, is locked behind a paywall. Feels gross. It only gets 2 stars because the app works, it’s free if you dont mind having an awful experience, and that’s about all it has going for it.
App is good, however the download section needs much work. You download videos & a lot of times the app will act is if they weren’t downloaded. When I do download videos half of the time they will get re-downloaded in English when it was originally downloaded in Japanese. I download videos because the app uses a ton of data when not on wifi.
Like the app to a degree. Don’t see me paying for an app that freezes all the time and I probably won’t use it for free either bc the ads are too much. end of ep. Get 6 30s ads beginning before intro another 30s and 2m into show another 5 30s ads not including 6-7 30s ads in middle. If you going to offer premium for so much. At least make the free versions work clearly. Want people to use your app so they can decide if they want to upgrade? Cut those ads to beginning and middle of eps.
It’s alright. Few issues I’ve had are default language changing on its own. Including when downloading. Whole series’s that I’ve watched show up unwatched. Currently airing shows that I’m current on, the previous episodes show unwatched between the app and browser version and previously watched episodes show up in the continue watching making me have to go through shows and find the episode I’m on. Very frustrating. Comments are removed from browser..dissapointing
Ever since adding profiles Crunchyroll has become, without a doubt, the best streaming platform for anime. Despite being the best out there it still has a couple issues. Not all shows have their dubbed versions, this could be due to some contracts etc but it is still slightly disappointing. They do have a skip intro feature, which works very well, but it is by no means on all shows. I have it is mostly on the more popular shows. Despite that Crunchyroll still has the largest collection. 10/10
Would be nice if it worked. I haven’t been able to even log into the app on my phone! It continues to say my credentials are invalid, regardless of how many times if reset my password! I can login on a desk top but not my phone or my Playstation! When I am able to use Crunchyroll on my computer, it freezes and/or the subtitles don’t work correctly. It’s extremely frustrating considering it got worse after I decided to pay for a subscription that I now barely use! Seriously debated canceling all!
I love crunchyroll for being able to stream anime, but this app is absolutely garbage. Videos won’t load even when you have perfect internet connection. Also, when you download shows to watch offline, they do not work. The app makes you have an internet connection still. Edited 7/24: I still hold to this review, the app has not gotten any better. Subtitles rarely work for me. They don’t show up even when they are enabled. Crunchy’s support told me to just delete my app to fix my issues lol
I like this app, but I have issue with the audio’s, I think it’s unfair for the people who don’t know Japanese has to pay to switch to English or the language they speak. I hope they change that in the future because I find it truly unfair, but despite all that, Crunchyroll is a good app, but, when I watch the shows, my phone would start to turn off, I haven’t figured out the problem yet, but I do recommend to use this app if you have patience.👍
I have been using Crunchyroll for a year now and during that year the system was working well as I like to watch my shows in Japanese with English subtitles. 2 days ago The English subtitles stopped working. I have tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling it and updating it. Nothing seems to restore subtitles when I’m watching the shows in Japanese.
Streaming is decent, with only a few hiccups. Their subtitle programming could be better. Sometimes they are so off that it’s humorous. What really bums me out is their removal of the comment feature. It’s what set apart Crunchyroll from other services. It is through the comments that I learned about novels, manga, and other things connected to the shows that I liked that I wouldn’t have learned otherwise. For this reason, I can’t recommend it as highly as I once would.
The translations to English are mediocre at best when the original language is anything other than Japanese. also, every time I start a new anime, it defaults back to English dubbed, and my preferred audio language is set to Japanese, but then I go to check it, and it’s defaulted back to English. I really don’t like most English dubs, because they often lack the depth of emotion and overall quality that the Japanese or Chinese voice cast have in spades.
Getting error message that I cannot connect to crunchyroll while video plays in background, brief glimpses at error message that says I have too many streams open at the same time. Changed password, deleted cache, deleted then reinstalled app, verified no other streams on my account open, nothing has worked. There is no easy place to look for troubleshooting, only places to purchase a better plan. Edit: I have been asked to submit a ticket. A ticket has already been submitted.
Wayyyyyyyyyy to many ads. It showed commercials, then I watched like 4 minutes of an episode, then it tried to do like 5, 30 second long ads… Bro… I get wanting to have people subscribe, but you’re still going to make revenue from ads… You try to force us to subscribe, and it’s so obnoxious, most people are just to going to not use the app, so you LOSE money, greatly annoy people, and build a bad reputation. Especially when we CAN just watch stuff for free. Have 1or2 ads before and after.
As far as functionality goes, I haven’t had any problems with the app. It works great. My biggest complaint is the removal of comments & reviews. Instead of moderating their platform, they chose to go nuclear & get rid of years of fan input & memorabilia. Now that this feature is gone, there’s really no point in choosing Crunchyroll over any other anime streaming service. An unfortunate loss, but what can you do. 🤷♂️
This is a terrible app. It has been absolutely terrible to anyone that uses it for free, I know it needs to make money somehow so I’m fine with ads and stuff. But with how many shows are locked behind premium is absurd, and from time to time they deside to switch shows to premium. They also skip seasons and jumble them up. When I was trying to watch re:zero I couldnt understand which part to watch next because it just skipped from season 3 to season 23.
I have an issue where subtitles just don’t appear when I have them enabled, I tried clearing the cache, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and it didn’t seem to fix it, I would give this a 5 star rating If it weren’t for the broken subtitles. I still like the app overall, and the selection of anime is great even though I have to pay to watch the majority of them.
Can’t turn off subtitles. Everything has mandatory subtitles so until that’s fixed I’m giving it one star because it’s annoying AF so I’ll probably just delete the app and buy the box sets of the shows I want to watch. 10JUL24 UPDATE: Now not only can I not turn off subtitles but now they are the subtitles from the previous episode. I’ve emailed Crunchyroll several times and provided video of the problem but I guess they don’t care because they’ve already got my money so why bother.
I love the service, however the app is garbage. Everytime there is an update, I always have connectivity issues and the app crashes. This is across devices. It never streams to my TV without having to completely close the app and restart it when changing to a new episode, or else again crashes. And I’m stuck with this garbage app if I want to watch my favorite shows, as they’re not on other streaming services.
I really enjoyed the comments section. It was fun to interact with other people who were watching the same shows as me and get show recommendations. I always watched shows on Crunchyroll over other streaming apps, like Hulu or Netflix, that lacked this feature. I’m going to start looking for other streaming spps that have a good selection and still have this feature. There was always a report function for inappropriate comments. Destroying the whole community was unnecessary and heavy handed.
