This is a new product and we want to make it as helpful as possible, combining features from multiple apps into one. Please let us know what you would like to see added or improved! We’re inclusive of everyone – 5th wheel, vanlife, skoolie, motorhome, travel trailer, you name it 🙂
FreeRoam is built by FreeRoam Foundation, a non-profit focused on helping people enjoy nature in a respectful, sustainable way.
Overall a very good app. We’ve used it while traveling around the US for the past 5 months. Been very helpful; it’s all about quality of reviews to know whether a spot will work well or not, especially with a trailer. The app itself has some minor bugs (and it doesn’t appear to have been updated for a few years, so I’m not confident they’ll ever be addressed or if the app will be maintained in the future). I would HAPPILY pay a one-time premium to help support it’s development.
So far, I really like this app. I’m using it for travel from S. California to, and throughout, much of Texas extensively. If it continues to work this well, it’s a godsend! Especially when you’ve never been, “wherever you’re going” at all before. Like, an “in app link” telling you definitively weather Texas allows sleeping at a public “rest area” or “picnic area” overnight. It’s great!
FreeRoam is lighter & faster than many other camp-locating apps. The UI is a little confusing at first, but if you dig deep enough you’ll find many useful features. Only 4 stars because the trip planning feature is clunky & I can’t add a place without answering a lot of questions that I don’t always have answers to.
Not a big fan of this app. It is VERY hard to see where you are on the map. You can’t just get the location of a campsite, it is always directions and is difficult to actual scrape the location from that. There are many places that do not show up on the app, and I mean public campgrounds. Not very impressed, I don’t understand the rave reviews.
