This is a nice guitar tuning app. It’s pretty accurate and easy to use. The new play along feature is a nice touch, although it can be a little glitchy and sometimes skips ahead on me (although I preface this with I am a beginner so I tend to make quite a few mistakes that might cause it to get confused).
Really good app. Highly recommend. Has lots of related material for anyone getting started or more. New technology always seems to be added. Tried a few of the songs and the app moves based on your playing. Great for anyone. Have tested the app against other tuners and this app can fine tune. Wish I could figure out how to download onto my Windows 10 Laptop. Lots of sites offer a download, but don’t want to make the wrong choice. Definitely download so you always have a tuner and song helper.
Works great. Im a beginner and still learning how to tune my guitar and what it’s supposed to sound like. The more I use the app to tune my guitar the better my ear gets at discerning whether a strong is out of tune or not. I can now tune my guitar and when I turn the app on I’m always within 5 +/- points. You pluck a string and it tells which direction to tune. The app works great and also has helped train my ear. Would recommend to all new or experienced players.
If you need a good understandable tuner, this is it. Every guitar player should have this application on their phone. There is nothing worse then getting put on the spot to play a way out of tune instrument. This tool is wonderful when you’re in need to restring your guitar. I’ve tried all the other tuners and this is indeed my recommendation.
Was super good for the first time I used it it locks the tone once you hit the correct. Frequency but the next time I used it it became chaotic and wouldn’t. Definitively. Lock in no matter how subtly I went up or down and could not be. Done the way it’d been B4 it was perfect the first time so I’m confused as to what was. Screwing it up I used my digital keyboard to try and see if I had lost my mind. Even perfect tone would not work so I uninstalled
Over all the app is really good at the basic level. It is frustrating when the app doesn’t acknowledge the chord being played or passes an obvious error as a played note. It would be nice if it actually worked when it should. Problem keeps persisting. I even downloaded another tuner to check this one. One of them is wrong…
This is a great application; with an intuitive, user-friendly ui and very accurate tuning. I refrained from writing this but it’s been months now of back and forth with Yousician’s customer service over trying to restore my purchases. You see, prior to the subscription service they rolled out you simply bought the tunings in a variety of “packages” all priced differently. You buy it, you own it. Simple enough. Until they rolled out this service. Disgusted with the predatory business practices.
I like it! Each time I tune my guitar it sounds more accurate probably because I’m getting better at it. I really like that it tells you to tune up or tune down from where the pitch is. Somtimes I have difficulty hearing if the pitch is too low or visa versa and as a result I often break the high E string but not anymore, Also I think it will be easy for my 6yr old Grandson to learn to tune his guitar. I’m a beginner student
Guitar tuna is the best app for guitar, period!!! I’ve tried so many different apps for keeping my guitars in tune and for learning chords and scales and things of that nature and nothing compares with guitar tuna. Nothing even comes close! It is a great app and it’s sister app Yousician is fantastic as well. So whatever you do… Make sure you do it with guitar tuna!!!!!!!!
Im just a dumb guy but anyone could see this app is amazing, free, and holds so much information. Now I will say if you are just learning I would recommend some music theory on youtube or any streaming service to better understand how all the chords align. In the free version you’re presented with a wide assortment of chords with colored dots for each finger of the note. Anyways, that’s alot of words so download and enjoy some different vibrations
I paid for this app a few years ago and I loved it. I was gone in an institution for 3 years, came home and started using it again. I could tune to open chords before I updated. Updated and now they want me to pay 7.99/month to tune to open chords after I purchased the function years ago. Don’t get this app, it was cool. Was.
As a free app, it gets the job done. I gave the prpo version a shot, as I wanted the ability to do custom alternate tunings, which was actually pretty cool. If it wasn’t for this next little thing, I would rate 4 or 5 stars. Unfortunately, you can’t just buy the app. Nope, you will pay 5 bucks a month forever, in order to have the ability to use the pro version. Thats insane. Greedy. I used the free version of this app for years to quickly tune a guitar in the off chance i had to. However, paying 5 bucks a month in perpetuity to have an app on my phone that I might use occasionally is a hard pass for me. I didn’t notice it was a recurring fee until they were already into me for about 20 bucks. I thought the paid version was a one time purchase of 5 dollars, not a subscription! I would have bought the app outright, for probably more than 5 bucks. Heck, I’d probably spring for 10 dollars ONCE, but not to basically pay a rental fee to have the ability to access the app. I could have just gone and bought a pretty decent ACTUAL physical guitar tuner for what these people got me for with their recurring monthly fee. You guys, recurring fees are not really justified for this type of thing. If the content were dynamic and changing from day to day, like a video streaming service, sure bring on the fee, but an app that basically takes the place of a physical item I can literally purchase and hold in my hand is pretty sleazy and scammy, and is an obvious “Gotcha” attempt to sucker people into unknowingly paying at least one recurring monthly fee, or however many you can get away with before people realize its a subscription, and you can’t just buy the app outright. Because of that, this potentially useful app gets dropped to the lowest possible rating, as well as incurring the deepest level of contempt I have for this business model and those who practice it. **TLDR: hard pass on recurring monthly fees to use a guitar tuner app. free version is ok. read the fine print and don’t get suckered. ** Lastly, here’s an idea- maybe don’t try suckering people. Resist the urge to make a quick buck off of unsuspecting people. A good product ought to sell itself, not be used as a ploy to trick people into subscriptions so you can leech off of them. 1/10. Would definitely not use again.
The app works great for standard tunings. I like the interface and precision, and it feels very responsive. However, it feels arbitrary that alternate or custom tunings only come with the paid version, even worse that it’s a subscription (and an expensive one at that!) I recommend the app if you only want to ever tune to standard but otherwise there are countless other free or cheaper options for simply tuning how you want
All I use it for is tuning my guitar, and it works perfectly. It also works for many other instruments, which is another great feature. One problem is it’s quite confusing unless you already know what you’re doing. I would say use this if you’re trying to tune an instrument, or if you’re already intermediate, you could learn songs or look to get something else out of this app like practice.
It’s impossible to cancel a subscription. It’s not on my subscription list on Google play but in the app it says my next payment will be sent next month. Looked it up online and the only other way is to go to the website and cancel through your Yousician account but i dont have one. If i go to the account info tab on the app it’s a string of random letters and numbers. Tried copy pasting that but it just says incorrect. The app is great honestly. But it shouldn’t be hard to change a subscription
The best free guitar tuner app hands down! It’s accurate, easy to use, full of features, like alternate tunings, other instruments etc. I’ve had zero problems with it in two +yrs. No annoying notifications or nagging for reviews or to upgrade, nothin’ but the goods🤘💀🎸 The free version is fully functional It has very few/barely noticeable ads if any. Did I mention it’s the free version I’m reviewing? Grab it now and delete any other tuner apps! GuitarTuna is still king! 5 star app all day
Pretty good app overall, there are ads but they are minimal compared to most. It is, as advertised- a guitar tuner. Easy to use, pretty fool-proof. In my opinion, it’s easier to use than my old tuner. No cords, no batteries. Simple and straightforward. Would recommend.
The BEST tuning app for sure! Works with tons of instruments and teaches you cords and has games for you to play. So it’s not only a tuning app-its like teaching you too! If you don’t want all the extra stuff on the app you should probably just get a normal tuning app. There are some features of it that you can only use by getting the paid version but that’s okay. It’s super easy to use and its a really nice and functional app.
Gave a 5 star in 2018. When it was still free to use. 2022 and it tries to automatically charge your google pay, and gives you 7 days to try and stop it. Very deceptive. Also reported. Old version on my non connected phone still works great as tuner and metronome. The product is good. Very wary of the people now running it. Full disclosure that clicking try for free button will encumber you in a contract should be disclosed before download. Another netflix lol
Love this tuner app! It’s honestly the best one I’ve used and it contains so many different tunings! Whether you’re playing Jazz, Blues, Ska, or some nasty Death Metal, Metalcore, Thrash, or super down tuned Doom Metal, this app has every possible tuning you could use for said genres. It has an easy to use interface and automatic or manual control let’s you decide what’s best for you. Highly recommend this one!
Tuner is fantastic. Although it’s understandable, it loses a star for 2 reasons. Ads and the UI. The UI was made for those that have a general understanding of how apps work, those that are new to apps or elderly or those with eye problems will have a little pickle with this app. Otherwise, will recommend.
Keeps me and my guitars in line…. It’s not that don’t have other tuner’s, to work with, to put my guitars to sound depending on what we’re playing, mostly go by ear ! but it’s a great n quick fix….. when you don’t have much time, Nice app, especially if you’re a beginner… Keep up the great work: Southernbluesman, keepingthebluesalive…. Doesn’t detect drop D. Pretty basic functionality missing. Also tries to get you to pay a monthly fee for very little in return. Update: thanks for the response. Having to select this option is pretty useless and inefficient. It’d be better to assume your users know what the notes are on the strings they’re tuning and aren’t picking up a guitar for the first time.
The good: It works really well! Good UI too. The bad: They push a subscription model for alternate tunings. I’m happy to pay (once) for deluxe versions of useful apps, but there is absolutely no discernable reason for this to be a subscription model as opposed to a one-time-buy option. If you use alternate tunings, just go buy a tuner or search for a different app. At $5/month here, you’ll pay it off very quickly.
ive just recently downloaded the app becaue i just recently picked up the guitar again after about 14-15 years, without even picking one up. Guitar Tuner, in much shorter period of time brought me back up and even surpassed as far as I had gotten previously, which take took more than a year…and I’ve barely made it through half of the features. new, novice even long time players will find it to be an invaluable tool at their disposal.
GuitarTuna is easy to use and it’s super accurate. I use it in a professional context to tune my bass, and my daughter uses the iPhone version to tune up before her guitar lesson each week. Just watch the little graph and you will instantly see if you are too high or too low. It also makes it clear when you are dead on, too. There’s no point in getting a separate tuner if you have a smartphone, just download this app.
The app is fine, honestly it works really well. However if you need anything more than standard tuning, you fall into paying $4.99 a MONTH for a guitar tuner…I don’t know, doesn’t seem worth a subscription. I’d gladly pay in the range of $8-10 for a premium version of the app, and that would still compete with physical guitar tuners on the market. However paying monthly for a tuner seems silly to me personally.
This is one of the better free guitar tuners out there for Android. I only wish there was a way to run this app in landscape mode. I run my other guitar apps on my tablet (tabs, effects, etc) as this mode makes the tablet more stable and keeps it from tipping over when the touch screen is used, especially with a guitar in your hands. Kinda a pain to use this app sideways, but it still works.
This was my first time with guitar, and it worked great the first time I used it. The second time wasn’t pretty. My 3rd string needed tuning, so I used the app since I’m not experienced and can’t tune on my own it kept on saying it was too low as I cranked it higher. I ended up breaking a string due to the tuner having some glitch or something like that. Edit: afterwards I was told by family members that it may have been a bad string. Developer also let me know that sometimes the strings break.
Very useful tuning app. The display can fairly easily help someone get a better sense of the how the ideal frequency sounds if they pay attention to the guitar’s sound while observing the reading on the app. I don’t recommend trying to tune while sitting next to a source of loud noise because it can easily pick that up and throw off the reading, but that is with any good tuner. This is very easy to use and looks very good, in my opinion. I strongly recommend giving this one a try.
This is the tuning app with the best tracking. But EVERYTHING is behind a paywall–you can only tune in standard with this app, everything else costs money. I would be happy to pay for it…. If it wasn’t a subscription system. No thanks. This could be a great app if it were a one time purchase. Also I don’t like how they push the “learn to play” features like yousician and the other stuff but I could see how it would be helpful to a beginner. However, it is quick and easy to use. For standard.
When I first used this app, when it was completely free, it worked purfect every time. Now that they charge, 1 out of 5 times it provided the wrong key for the one I was tuning. Also, they charged me twice a month and wouldn’t give me a refund, and they make it difficult to reach them They also keep charging you after you delete the app. All other apps that I have had that charge stop charging as soon as I delete the app. I suggest you just get a tuner, works so much better and so much cheaper!
It is a very good tuner for guitars, I enjoy how it gives you the option to practice cords if you are a beginner like myself. The games theu have really help with your transitions between different cords and frets. There are two things that I think the app should improve or ads. The first is when playing these games with the cords, it seems like the app does not seem to pick up the sound. The second thing they should add is adding a tab table for a large variety of songs.
Great app! I’ve been using GuitarTuna for a few years, first the free version and then the paid version. Both work well, are intuitive and easy to use. I use the app every day, mainly for tuning my guitars, mandolins, fiddle, and ukulele, as well as for using the metronome. Never had a problem, crash, or bug with the app. Highly recommended!
The standard tuning part of the app, aka the only part that you get without a subscription, works well enough. The problem is, they want 4.99 a month for even a chromatic tuner, which includes a shitload of other features. Now, I’d gladly pay them a fiver to unlock the tuner, but, not every month. Like, you can buy a nice chromatic clip on tuner for $15, and that’s physical hardware, with all of that implied overhead. No way in hell I’m paying that 4 times a year forever because it’s on my phone
This is a great app for basic instruments but I was really disappointed with the paid version. It’s hard to make custom tuning. Making them for a bass is impossible. This only has a set number of different string instruments and doesn’t let you do enough programming to be able to accommodate other things like a 6 or 7 string bass. Not sure why I upgraded if I can’t tune the full range of the other instruments I play. Works incredible for guitar though. Love it otherwise. Please update your app, guys! Would love to give this 5 stars.
Free versions of apps are usually almost non functional, full of errors or theirs ads popping every moment make them unusable. Guitar Tuna is an exception. I’ve had over 10 years of experience with a few thousand apps and nothing compares to this one! The tuner is flawless and fast and the learning tools just brilliant. I didn’t even think it’s possible to learn chords so fast, but this app made it happen! I know my words sounds as if I’m sponsored – but I’m not lol. Best app of the XXI century!
This app simply does what I was looking for. The free version is great – I paid for the full version because I was ready to buy a clip-on tuner, then realized this was cheaper and provided more features than just a tuner (chord library, metronome, etc.) I’m not shilling for the developers, I just really think this is a great phone app. Cheers.
Some good features – the tuner is accurate and handy. Some of the learning games are fun and useful. (I have my doubts about the ‘make a chord” game only because I don’t want to spend time developing muscle memory for swiping chords on s piece of glass. Still, better than nothing, and kets you visualize the process.) Other tools like a metronome are handy when bundled. Biggest drawback – the open-ended monthly payment scheme, $x per month rather than a fixed fee.
Great app. My only possible complaint is that it seems to nag me about rating the app at least once nearly every time I use it, immediately after tuning every string. Isn’t once enough? This gets annoying because when I tune my guitar, I like to make sure to go over every string again after tuning all of them once for fine-tuning purposes. When I try to do this, the annoying rating screen pops up and gets in my way. It’s just a minor annoyance, really. It still deaerves 5 stars in my book.
