Even after using this app for years, I remain somewhat annoyed by it. For example, the mismatch between the extreme high and low temperatures listed for each day, and the actual highest/ lowest temperatures shown graphically, has never been corrected. So I can never tell at a glance what the daily extremes will be. I have to go back and forth between the two, and carefully follow the graph to figure out what to wear, for example. Glaring flaws like this keep the app mired in mediocrity.

  2. Weather Underground used to be great when I first discovered it in 2007. It was ugly and primitive but really good if you knew how to adjust settings and apply basic meteorology knowledge. (Though that wasn’t required to use it.)… fast forward to now, it sucks. It has a prettier and more user friendly interface but it has lost many functions that adjusted tiny details. That is what set W.U. apart from others. Now it’s just another weather app. Average at best.

Prior to the splash screen announcing that wunderground was an IBM business the app used to load much faster and would load without being connected to wi-fi. Also previously there were much less ads involved and looking at the screen. For the past couple of years it’s gone amazingly downhill. However I do still enjoy seeing the phases of the Moon and the Sun which is one of the highlights of underground.

This is my usual go-to weather app, mostly because it displays local private weather stations and forecasts seem more accurate too. However, the last month or so the app often hangs up downloading data when I first open it. This happens on both my Android devices. I Have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but still having issues. It has been difficult utilizing the app now. I find myself going to the browser now to look at WU. I’ve not had this kind of trouble before.

  5. ya a dice:

Website is MUCH better. Cannot tell time of forecasted rain in the app, for example. This app is rather useless. It’s messy, cannot see enough, it’s unclear. And it’s riddled with ads/notices/misc. Actual useful info that we want the app for is difficult to digest, read, interpret, or find in an easy, truly useful way. I’d prefer a dedicated app, but this isn’t it. Instead I’ll go back to a dedicated tab amongst 100+ open tabs in my browser. Oh well. Website version is best weather source avail

  6. Used to love this app. Still love it once it’s loaded. But the two second long loading screen with the IBM logo on every single open drives me nuts. Also the single uncustomizable widget doesn’t look great, wish I could make it transparent. Moved to another app as a result. I would keep it if they got rid of the stupid slow loading screen.

  7. It’s a pretty accurate weather app! You can look up any location and it will have the weekly weather for that specific spot. I personally like that they added in an hourly weather for the day, so that you can see what time of the day it will be raining or sunny. The downside is the Ads in the app.. I’m not talking video ads, but just picture ads at the bottom of the screen, or under the weather report. Besides the ads, it’s worth installing! 👍

  8. The app forces portrait for maps, and despite the fact that metric units are selected, in several situations, it only shows Fahrenheit. Once upon a time, before IBM acquired the app, everything stayed in metric units, and maps could be rotated landscape. Would rate lower due to these failings, but half of them work properly, so 3 stars it is. Most of the world uses centigrade/celcius, why it reverts and only allows Fahrenheit is curious. EU ip will not change the forced F 🙁

  9. Too many advertisements and windows that jump around. I’ve been very happy overall with this app for many years and then I upgraded to a new phone and the app functionality presentation are completely different than the previous version on my old phone. Some options on the new version are not there very strange. It used to be my go-to app now it seems very bloated. So you guys are middle of the road now.

  10. This used to be the hands down best weather app. After the IBM acquisition it floundered for a few years. It still isn’t quite as good as it used to be, but 4 stars for them fixing many of the problems. They still need to add back in the link to the weather discussion if they want 5 stars, but the weather maps, layers, and choosable weather stations, run by real people in real locations, keeps me coming back.

  11. I’ve been using this app since 2015. It has ALWAYS been accurate. I live in Omaha and landscape through the summer and remove snow in the winter. Both of which get scheduled according to the weather. If I remember correctly there was a regime change a few years back which caused a few minor hiccups. But as of now it predicts the future. Weather can get funky, but I believe there is constant input from volunteers, what is currently occurring at their homes that truly keeps it up to the minute

  12. C F dice:

I have used weather underground for years and always loved its features. I always recommended it to anyone who was looking for a weather app. Now I don’t even recognize it anymore. Most of my favorite features are either gone or unrecognizable. Please restore this app to its former version and leave well enough alone. I don’t understand why companies feel the need to completely change their apps when an occasional upgrade will suffice. From a soon to be former customer.

  13. Simple enough, and includes just about any piece of weather data I’ve looked for. I do concrete work so I use a few different sources for my weather but this one is the most accurate and reliable. Has wind forecast integrated into the normal 10 day projection, along with rain chance and amounts, rain is graphed out with the temperatures on a timeline… I don’t even use all the features but the ones I don’t use don’t get in the way either.

  14. Tom Wood dice:

Wind speed indicator has been broken for years, across multiple devices for me. On the main page of the app it has a spot for showing sustained wind and gust speed. It’s as if they’ve styled the former one to imitate numbers on a wheel, and you can only ever see the 10’s digit and it’s kind of off-center and cut off at the bottom of the section. You can’t see the 1’s digit ever, nor does it ever display any numbers at all for the gust speed.

  15. I love this app. I use it every day. It has everything… Temp, dew point, humidity, wind speed, barom. pressure, cloud cover, chance for precip or snow. You can look at 10 day forecast, just today, or hourly. The best part is you can choose which weather tower to use – down to the zip code, which gives a better chance for accuracy. For some reason, I find their radar map difficult. But, otherwise, love this app. You can also pull up different locations. This is my GO TO weather app.

  16. Still my go to weather app for many years. Excellent radar screen that can easily be zoomed in and out. Week plus weather forecast with frequent updates. Wind speed and direction clearly shown. Several categories can be looked at with greater depth. Day length, sunrise/sunset, first/last light clearly shown. I can look back over the prior day to check on the high or low. I may look at other apps at times for alternate forecasts, but this app has become the way I think about weather forecasts.

  17. Very accurate, easy to use and a nice breakdown section on daily and hourly weather which is a nice feature when you want to focus on a certain part of the day. I’d recommend to anyone interested in accurate free forecasts with options to go premium if that’s something one needs. I’ve been using for 7+ months and will no longer use another.

  18. I’ve given up hope that the app will go back to what it was before the abysmal update by IBM in 2019. Still lot of useless fluff favored over compact and efficient information. But what’s really funny, is that on a whim I thought I’d see how much the upgrade would cost to get rid of the gigantic ads, and the button doesn’t work. Tried multiple ways. Tapping the Buy button does nothing. So I guess I’m stuck with fluff packed with ads. Why do I use this app, again?

  19. This would be nearly the perfect weather app. Except about half the time when I open it I get an error to try again later. This continues until i close the app then I can open it. When it works information is displayed so well I keep it installed despite the flaw, but sometimes I just want to uninstall in frustration. Also, the radar could be smoother. Further research shows that this might be related to my device, still an Galaxy S8 shouldn’t be an issue.

  20. Pros: Easy to get to the radar or hour by hour. The layout is great. Accuracy is as good or better than my other weather apps. This is my “go to” app 90+ % of the time. Cons: Opens to full screen add have to get past first. I much prefer “banner” ads. Only other one is only 7 days forecast. Although where I live it changes a lot more often than that so it’s a minor quibble.

  21. Pros – I really enjoy the app. I like the detail and how it can be stepped down from days to hours. It is highly accurate. I really enjoy how I can place high and low pressure systems and fronts on the map. Other apps do not offer this. Specific and unique temperature readings rather then ambiguous colored temperature maps. I like being able to touch connect any US weather station. The same is true with posted alerts. Cons – radar often is jerky not smooth. There’s no future cast.

  22. IBM acquisition was a downgrade for this once great app. Used to be the best Wx app by far. Now it’s no better than the rest of the bunch. Can’t find a way to view nearby weather stations. The one you get appears to be arbitrary and could be miles away if your phone doesn’t have accurate location. Weather data is sometimes stale and inaccurate. Too many adverts.

  23. This app (and Weather Underground in general) have seriously fallen from grace. You can’t see local weather data anymore, and the radar view is miles behind the competition. The most annoying thing is that it makes you wait 5 seconds every time you open it so you can just sit there and stare at the IBM logo. The only reason I keep it around is that it still has much more useful long term weather graphs than other apps

  24. Eric G dice:

*UPDATE* App is much worse now that IBM owns it. Way overdue for an update. Temperatures are beyond 10° off. It’s cloudy outside and definitely looks like rain, however, the app is showing no clouds or chance of rain anywhere near me. Local weather stations are showing accurate IF you’re not viewing them through this app. The ads are starting to get tiresome as well. Almost ready to completely ditch it.

  25. The app is fantastic, but I wish it had some cleaner widgets, like those in AccuWeather. Something you can control opacity on, and see the forecast for today and tomorrow with. A horizontal configuration would also be a plus. Other than that, the amount of information in the app itself is unbeatable. Definitely fantastic, overall.

  26. Some quirks in the design… for example, it takes a couple of clicks to get to the narrative forecast (better to place it up front IMO). Occasionally conflicts with itself as well. For example, the 24 Hr precipitation forecast might say .02 inches of rain, whereas the narrative forecast might say Heavy Thunderstorms, 1 – 2 in of rain. In that regard the app is not very helpful. Given the developers tout this app as “the most accurate,” well, sometimes it does not even agree with itself.

  27. Da Li dice:

Not perfect but from reading reviews on other major apps I’ve decided it’s better than it could be. Had lots of issues years ago on iPhone. Has run decent on Android for 2 years now. I’d leave some comments on things that could be improved, but I’d rather have something that only has slight quirks/issues, than have them start messing with things and ruin something that’s 80-90+% functional. Sounds like that’s a common thing in the app-sphere. Very few ads is greatly appreciated. K.I.S.S. works!

  28. I like this app. It includes volentary data from many home based weather stations some of which are within a few blocks of where I live. It’s predictions always seem to to be very accurate to my location and it’s design includes features I don’t see in any others. I understand it was purchased by IBM. Please keep it to the same heart, standards and philosophy from which it was born. I would pay for a pro version if that’s what would be needed. Thank you for all your efforts.

  29. App is now totally useless! A few months ago it seemed to display pws all over, now it’s a select few. And when you do get lucky & find one you know, and has rain, it just shows ‘0’ inches…even temps are way off. My station will not even show on the Wundermap anymore, unless you go to a laptop or desktop, and then it doesn’t show the correct data! They need to go back to the way it was a year ago!!!!

  30. Amazing app, great detail, and amazing persistent notification so you don’t have to open the app to see the weather and at the same time not being an eyesore. The radar is a little stuttery but I’ve seen that on other apps. The ads aren’t intrusive either, usually showing up between topics, no videos either! All in all a great free weather app.

  31. This is my go to weather app. The 10 day forecast with temperature and precipitation % graphed is one of the best features. The radar is decent when it is working. About 15% of the time, the radar fails to load correctly, showing just a geographic map with glitchy or no radar data at all. This happens online and in the phone app. It forces me to use other weather apps in those instances.

  32. Leo M dice:

Good app with nice detailed charts on many weather parameters displayed in the free version which makes it stand out from others. Although it’s a bit slow to display the screens with details, they are at least available and I like the graphs displayed over time (hours and days). The one thing I would like to see improved would be the instant weather radar with a past and future play and manual slider. The best radar I found to date is in the Fox 9 Weather from the Twin Cities MN!!!

  33. S Fey dice:

I’ve been with weather underground for quite a while. (Near debute) I paid 1.99 at the time, annually, for about 2-3 years. Even accepted the 2.99 when that changed. As the app was still great and true. The last few years the app has gone backwards [website is still top notch] But the 19.99 annual, is a huge hike up, Now ether ppl didn’t donate to a good cause and build. As everything goes up, having access to actual good put together data, is needed and in some cases vital. Please reconsider

  34. For over a year now, I’m unsatisfied with the weather map app. Radar weather map is still set up to observe “rear view mirror weather events” in lieu of forecasting the weather. Rather than seeing the weather for the past few hours, I am more concerned about what is forecast for the next 6 to 12 hours as well as the next 12 to 24 hours. To be more universally useful, they should change to a variable time format, allowing users of the app to select their own personal time frame in the settings.

  35. Mostly does what I need. Dropped a star because there doesn’t seem to be a way to easily search for nearby weather stations. The Wunderground website has a database of them, so it doesn’t make sense that the app isn’t taking advantage of that. ETA: Also, the app needs barometric pressure, another website feature that’s missing.

  36. Tom Allen dice:

Still pretty upset about how bad this app has turned. I want my local camera access back immediately. It was probably one of the more fascinating features about this app. Checking in August of 2022 nothing has changed. I still can’t get my towers for weather despite Google being able to do so. I’ll be more than happy to upgrade my stars if you put back the local cameras.

  37. UPDATE: Whatever the problem was, it has been corrected. Great app again. Use it daily, have found it to be pretty accurate. Was the only app I used, now it will open but no data is there. I have reloaded the app several times to no avail. Really hate to leave it but am searching for an app that opens, gives me accurate data and works. Don’t know what they did, they need to undo it.

  38. App is running, do I really need to see IBM splash screen every time I access it. Constant audio notifications, but no clue what for. Sometimes it will sound 3+ notices multiple times an hour. Have no clue what they are for. Had to turn off notifications for the app, which means no Temp display in notification area.

  39. Best weather app I’ve used for daily weather needs in terms of balance of information + usability. But: loads very slowly; location names are sometimes inaccurate or missing in lookup drop down; status bar temp only and temp + conditions notifications require a strong magnifying glass to see, making them unusable; use of dials and tables for temps, precip, humidity, etc. across time is confusing; few updates. Paying the hefty annual fee and expect more.

  40. I love this app. I find it to be as or more accurate than other services, but provides so much more useful information. Hourly expected rainfall and first/last light are two particularly helpful examples. Why only four stars, though? It opens soooo much slower than other apps. If I just want the temperature before dressing to go for a walk, I open something else. As a weather junky this is my go-to app.
