  1. Very user friendly. I can correct lighting and color slack on those “perfect” photos. Montage is so much fun to use. Wish there was draft saving for that and being able to add music and live stickers, but there are other apps for that. Not that big of a let down; I still use it on many photos and videos. One downside, it crashes a lot when using videos on montage and have to start over, or it will let you finish it, but it won’t save or post it having start over anyway.

  2. Once a great app, now just a paywall absurdity. Overtime, otherwise fundamentally basic adjustments like “clarity” or even shadows/highlight tones requires purchase. It’s only gotten worse, with more tools locked. In comparison it makes Adobe look like a Saint, with much less bloat (Lr/PS). The only thing VSCO had that was so robust were the filter packs, but you can certainly recreate them elsewhere. I’ve had & used this app for approx 6+ yrs as of writing so, take it as you wish.

  3. Sad to see what this app has become. Have been a VSCO user since it first came out, back when you could buy photo effect packs, and have now found this app unusable. The ads to upgrade to premium membership are ridiculous and it is even worse how you can’t even close them! VSCO, we get it, you want to push your premium features, but some of us are happy without those features. I hope your future update includes an option to close those stupid ads.

  4. Used to be great but now there’s just a constant ad blocking your feed if you’re not a premium subscriber with no way to get rid of it and that’s on top of the fact that many previously free features have been locked behind a paywall. If you’re not willing to buy premium, don’t get the app. It’s essentially just one big advertisement for their premium subscription.

  5. Have been using this app since 2016. No lies. This was one of those first apps I used to install as soon as buy a new. But today I intend to uninstall it. The only thing the developer care now is about to switch the users to subscribers. They removed some of the basic editing features such as highlighting and even reduced the quality of images saved. I understand offering paid presets. I’ve bought multiple preset sets over the years, but now with the reduced img quality, those became useless.

  6. Can’t remember how long I’ve used this app but definitely more than 4 years. I would always tell ppl that I edit my photos on VSCO and tell them to download it too. But recently they started charging for basic tools like text and grain upon other simple things. I wouldn’t mind if it was a one time pay. But a SUBSCRIPTION?? I think I’ll pass. It’s not even offering anything special for that. I hate to say it but I think I’m going to retire from VSCO and have to force myself to find a new app

  7. Feature-wise it’s great, but there are two bothersome things: 1) Locking previously accesible non-member features and 2) Un-closable “Try it for free” popup on every screen. I get they want folks to pay up but both of those are a really bad look and unprofessional way to go about it. Might as well just put the whole app behind a paywall.

  8. Keeps going downhill. I have had this app for nearly 10 years. It used to be mostly if not completely free. As time goes on I keep losing editing features to the “paid” section of the app. I never write reviews, but I felt compelled to after it seems like everything has become a paid feature. I can understand paying for preset filters, but most recently they have started taking away the editing tools used to custom fine tune pictures. Going to have to find a new editing app.

  9. been using the app for several years now and i was really surprised to see some of the basic features being put into the membership program and requiring pay… some of the basic features included tone and clarity which can be easily used on another app. i get that apps are still trying to make money, but i don’t believe that suddenly requiring payment for features that have been free on an app for years is the way to go.

  10. This used to be my favorite photo editing app but they are taking away features that used to be free in order to force user’s hands into paying for a premium subscription. It’s really disheartening to see how greedy this app has gotten. Will be looking for a new photo editing app from this day forward. Shame on y’all! You really think during a recession ppl have extra money to spend on features that were free up until now? Features I used that were once free : adjusting tone, grain, etc. Boo! 🍅

  11. VSCO used to be great but so many basic functions are locked behind a paywall including presets I’ve actually paid for and used before their new model. Locking grain, highlight/shadow, and split tones surprised me. Haven’t used it in a while and a bit disappointed to see what it’s become considering how they dominated aesthetics. I want VSCO to get their coin and have paid for their things in the past but this model isn’t it.

  12. I used to love VSCO, it definitely created the atmosphere of art that Instagram was originally intended for. Recently though it’s started to change, starting with the ‘Trending’ category on the home page being taken down, and the lack of support and new features for Android users that has always been an issue. Now they are locking historically free tools behind paywalls to get people to subscribe. Honestly I don’t even know how much longer I will stay on the app, it’s getting so frustrating.

  13. Lia Grace dice:

I have loved this app for years. Presets have always cost money and that is understandable! But they have recently locked more of the basic editing features. This app was an alternative to paying for an editing software for me but I might as well pay for a professional software at this point. Disappointed that I will no longer be able to use this app as I loved its features.

  14. Great app, but it is progressively adding “premium” features each update and it’s simply not worth paying money to edit an image. There are already many filters and such that were already premium. I don’t necessarily think more needed to be added. To each their own, though. Pay at your own expense if you wish.

  15. Used and loved this app for years. Recommended it to every person I knew who was interested in photo editing on mobile. However, the new paywall removing access to popular filter presets and basic editing tools like grain and tone makes this uncompetitive as a free photo editing apps now. It’s really disappointing to see – Lightroom has become a better alternative.

  16. Very sad. I’ve been using vsco for nearly a decade as my go to for picture editing, but as it goes, all good things must come to an end. The app has only gotten more popular over the years and that has sparked an oppurtunity for them to make more money, of course. So now, in order to use some of the basic editing features, you have to upgrade and pay. I’m all for a business making money, but after a decade of the same features, they chose the wrong things to make some extra cash off of.

  17. I’ve used this app for YEARS and it’s so disappointing to see how even basic functions are now being locked behind a pay wall. I can understand new features being available only to premium members but things like grain and clarity have recently been locked out, and photos that I’ve edited before can no longer be edited and saved without removing those. I could understand if it had been like this from the beginning but that’s not the case here.

  18. dessi mac dice:

I’ve been using this app for years for presetting my own filters because doing it yourself for each one is tedious. Recently they started putting more and more features for only subscribers. Today I tried to use the app and couldn’t even have a preset filter made. This app is basically unusable now unless you want to pay 7.99 a month which is ridiculous pricing for a simple photo editing app.

  19. One of – if not – the best photo editing app on the market, but they have become so greedy in trying to get people to pay for full access that instead of just providing extra tools for payers they have now restricted some of the basic tools (that used to be free) for people who pay now. So absurd, so disappointed. I hope your app fails now, honestly.

  20. Stephanie dice:

Been using this app for years and loved it. However, now they have taken away basic features behind the subscription service. I would have no problem making a one time payment for certain features but I am wholly interested in a subscription something I may use once or twice a month. Offer a version for influencers who use it everyday instead of forcing the casual user who enjoyed your product to overpay for basic features. Really sad. Lightroom here I come.

  21. Every update put out for this app, they take more and more away and require “premium” subscription. It’s not like there are any updates to any of the filters, they’ve been there forever. What’s wrong with keeping them free? Greedy. You also now can’t share them to Instagram without premium, apparently. Deleting after having this app for over 7 years. Gone down the drain fast.

  22. I’ve used the free version of VSCO for a few years now because it was the best option for photo editing; I didn’t mind the ads or that certain features were locked because the interface was so user friendly. Now, however, there are suddenly paywalls on tons of features and presets that used to be free. Thing is, I wouldn’t even mind paying if it was like this from the beginning. At this point, I’m just going to uninstall and move to another app; heck, I’ll just edit in Instagram instead.

  23. A Hancz dice:

This USED to be a great app. It was hard to believe it was free because it had so many great features, adjustable editing and filters and it was easy, functional, and smooth to use. Now you hardly have any options and they put a bunch of junk in your way that you can’t even use to try and get you to buy it. Also not sure if your photos are private.

  24. I’ve been using VSCO as one of my main editing apps for years & now all of the sudden they are requiring you to be a member in order to access basic editing features that were previously included for free on the app. these are editing tools that you can find for free on almost every photo editing app out there. I have deleted my account now because it is not worth it to pay money for the bare minimum of editing tools. Very disappointed. I do highly recommend PicsArt though instead.

  25. Hannah W dice:

I’ve used vsco for over 7 years and have absolutely loved it. However, they recently moved a bunch of previously free tools and filters (that I’ve used on a weekly basis for years) to premium only. Like really basic editing tools and my most used filter. I’m very frustrated and disappointed, as vsco has been my favorite photo editing app up until this point. Now there’s hardly anything you can use for free. I will be finding another app to use.

  26. Used VSCO for YEARS! was the only photo editing app I would constantly come back to and love. however, they put basic editing tools behind a pay wall. puts a bad taste in my mouth. lost a customer. I have bought many preset filters from them and intended on continuing to do so. I’m not going to pay any amount of money to put a GRAIN on my pictures. seeing many other users saying the same thing. very sad. do better VSCO…

  27. Disappointed in this huge step backwards for VSCO. I’ve used this app for years and it’s basically useless now. The only editing tools that are still free are ones that literally any other app could perform. VSCO has clearly gotten so greedy that they’ve lost sight of how terribly this will affect them in the long run. Really hope they return the basic features they’ve had all along and decide to monetize in some other way. Until then, I won’t be back.

  28. ína dice:

i’ve been using vsco for YEARS, and i’ve always loved it; would have rated it 5 stars before– however, the new update makes so many previously-free features only available for premium, and it’s utterly ridiculous. why lock things that have been usable for so long? now it has no more free editing features than my phone’s default photo editor. really unhappy with this change.

  29. When i try to click on a video to import it in, it wouldn’t let me tap on it and nothing happens. Please fix this problem. Edit: I came back, but now it’s gotten worse. I try signing up, but it keeps saying “please check your email entered correctly.” YES VSCO it’s entered correctly, byt it still won’t let me in! People, be careful of these kinds of apps.

  30. This app is absolutely stunning. I have been using it for maybe two years now? The presets are gorgeous, the settings are amazing. And it doesn’t diminish the quality. Would 10/10 recommend. The only thing I would change would be: you have an account, and you can post to your profile, but the photos you upload to edit don’t stay in the app after being uninstalled. Very inconvenient.

  31. I purchased VSCO X on my iPhone before it died and I switched to an Android. However, my VSCO X subscription did not transfer over after countless attempts. For $20 and using it for a few months it was a waste of time and money. I’ve been trying to chat with customer service and it’s been a complete nightmare. This app is great for editing photos but I will never purchase anything from this incompetent app ever again.

  32. Michael W. dice:

I love VSCO! I think it is such a freeing and creative platform that fosters growth with visual medias such as photos and videos. I love the design and simplicity of the app. It’s very easy for anyone to use. I do have a few critiques. Sometimes it has a few glitches in it(ex: changing the thumbnail of photos while scrolling, distorting images if I don’t allow location to be shown). In fact, when I choose to display location, it shows nothing about the location of the photo. Wish I could DSCO

  33. I have used VSCO for roughly 4 years and have never had an issue…until now. My edits won’t save the way I put them and it’s driving me insane. I have used G3 on all of my photos set at 6.0 but recently when I save them, they automatically go all the way back up to 12.0 which ruins the way the photo looks and I am extremely frustrated. I have updated, uninstalled, and reinstalled and it’s still happening.

  34. This is my go-to editor and I love the functionality – usually. This is the second time that an update has caused the program to fully crash and become inoperable since I’ve been using it (last time was in 2019. I can essentially open the app once, then I have to restart my phone to take another action in it. As you can imagine, this has tanked my ability to edit and post! I’m paying for a subscription and yet VSCO’s response is slow to none and I’ve yet to be offered even a partial refund.

  35. Emerson M. dice:

Been using VSCO on and off since it came out for the Android platform. I enjoy the simplicity of editing and the streamline UI. However, just like what others have stated, this app constantly crashes and freezes my phone, forcing me to reboot. Very frustrating to say the least. I am very wary of signing up for the subscription because of how unstable this app is.

  36. I love and use this app all of the time! There is a large variety of filters to choose from and tools to use to improve and adjust the look of your photos. However, I am a little disappointed with the recent changes made to the app. I loved how you could swipe on the photo to undo and redo changes that you have made. It was extreamly helpful to compare the adjustments which in turn helped decide which change looked better. Hopefully a tool or shortcut similar to the old one will be added.

  37. So far I’ve loved VSCO and as a professional graphic designer/photographer, I’d often turn to this app for some quick fixes due to how streamlined the UI is. That being said, for the past month or two, the app just doesn’t work anymore. It crashes anytime I try and open it and won’t upload photos, and often freezes my phone. Really disappointed. Hope this gets fixed soon.

  38. I generally love VSCO as far as editing options for pictures. However, posting and saving is very buggy/touchy for me. It won’t post the correct photo that I choose to upload. So weird! VSCO did not used to do this to me. Also, when in the studio, it’ll display pictures in the wrong spot. And I just paid for the premium service for year #2, to find out it won’t even post the correct photo anymore? If these issues are fixed, I’ll take the review down, because I love it besides this.

  39. Nix Hint dice:

Seriously do not hesitate to download vsco. It is such an amazing tool to utilize if you are super into photography or just want to enhance your photos just a bit giving it more of that “wow” factor. You can download for free but do not have access to all the filters..I tried it out for a few days before buying it which was 19.99 for a year. GUYS!!!! Thats really not bad AT ALL for all the presets you have access to and all the tools you can use. I love photograpghy and vsco is my happy place.

  40. Well. The filters are great. The interface is nice and streamlined. I’ve really enjoyed it for the 2 weeks I’ve been using it. And yet. And yet. How can a photo app fail to detect newly taken photos unless I RESTART my phone? It makes absolutely no sense and is a massive inconvenience. It’s beyond a bug, it’s an issue that completely sinks this app for me and would give me pause about putting money into it again.
