The app used to be great for splitting bills but the latest update removed the feature to do simple math in the payment window. Why remove that very useful feature? Not to mention the minor annoyances, like not being able to see your past transactions’ messages without tapping on them. But if you tap on one and go back, it reloads the list and puts you at the top. Basically impossible to view prior transactions. UI needs more usability, not a new design for the payment window with less features.
The app works great. After it finally responds. The service itself is the issue. Constantly having problems transferring, sending payments, or switching between biz and personal accts. This time there’s not even an announcement that it’s down, just a nice screen that continually says “that didn’t work. Try again later.”
The recent changes to the UI suck. The calculator is gone, which makes the payment screen look a little better, but takes away functionality and charm from the app. The only way to view your transaction history with payment memos is to view your profile by clicking on your picture on a payment in the feed or on a friend’s profile. This is like 3 taps on average for transaction history, which is a pretty core feature of a payment app.
I always struggle to login to the app. Even trying to pull up the support page is absurd. To pull up the info I tried to cycle to my files to view it and it loses everything. I keep having to restart. App freezes. Start over. The wind blows. Start over. Now I’m done. Good luck. Won’t use such a poor built app. They’ve sent me $10-20 for promo and it’s always a bigger hassle. Not worth my time anymore once this is posted lol
keeps changing the UI every few weeks!! So confusing and I’m mainly upset that they removed the calculator feature! It was so easy to split before with it and now I have to figure it out separately and it’s a hassle. The constant changes are frustrating also, I feel like I never know where to find things anymore
The excessively frequent UI changes are annoying to adapt to especially since most of them create a significantly worse UX — the most notable being the recent removal of the built-in calculator from the payment screen which is now mostly unused white space. The support team is incredibly responsive when requesting refunds for mistake “vendor” payments, but this wouldn’t occur in the first place if the UX weren’t complete garbage with a poorly-placed, time-delayed vendor toggle.
fantastic! I’m editing this review down to three stars, I really don’t like the latest user interface that got rid of the calculator controls. One of the most useful features is being able to split payments between people and not having this is very inconvenient.
Eh…not great, only got it to pay a certain vendor that uses it. The app is kinda buggy but NBD. The low score is for the credit card. You can’t make a payment for anything that’s still processing, so no full balance payment can be made. Takes 10+ days to process a completed payment & it doesn’t reflect in your balance/available for the 10+ days Rewards are hardly worth the hassle. I get way better limits, rewards, and processing time with my discover and capital one cards.
Useful app, but what was the purpose of the redesign? Removal of the calculator feature was a bad idea – now requiring us to open a seperate app to do the math. New UI on payment screen also makes it easier to make mistakes in the payment amount. (ie. $10 could become 100, or .001) was this on purpose to cause higher accidental payments?
Absolutely Horrible! Went through all the steps to verify bank account. Account was verified but then I was never able to send more than $1 to anyone. Just kept saying unable to process transaction, try later. Tried later same thing, over and over. Then they froze my account. I guess for too many tries?? Total waste of time! I’ll continue to use the other money apps that actually work.
Edit as of 1/22/23: still garbage. Can’t even scroll down the list of transactions between myself and another without the app becoming unusable. Venmo needs to do better. Awful performance. Doing anything other than scrolling through the home transaction feed and browsing the sidebar options makes the app completely unresponsive. Click on a person’s profile and attempt to scroll through? Unresponsive. This has been an issue for as long as I can remember.
First time using, seemed easy to set up, but i have tried sending a half dozen times, the first time it went through, but then a short time later said cancelled by sender (which i didnt cancel) and then ecety time after that gave an error that it cannot send. Plus on top of that i couldnt set up my bank account because my credit union doesnt subscribe to whatever other program, which is just rediculous (i can connect to paypal) so i had to use my card which will incur a fee. Do not recommend.
Used it because it was convenient despite the many bugs. But the new update removed the calculator option from the Pay/Request screen, so now I have to leave the app and open a different calculator or do the math in my head when splitting a bill with multiple people. Bad UX design, which might just be the last straw for me.
The worst cash application ever! Certain people you can’t send money to it declines, certain Banks you can add only to withdraw funds from or add to but can’t do both I have never had so much problems getting and using my money. The only reason I opened it was because someone had to pay me that way and it took me nearly two months to get that money because I had to verify me and it took them that long to review my information it’s a waste! Oh and you cannot transfer your funds to Cash App.
The latest update removed the calculator when trying pay/request, and instead brings up the system keyboard without any calculator functions. Previous to this, the calculator stopped providing haptic feedback, so it’s just been a steady decline since then. Stop trying to oversimply the UI when that should stay the way it was, and instead work on making the app communicate with your servers better so charges cns actually go through.
STAY AWAY!!! Wish I could give zero stars, it’s been almost 2 weeks, after multiple calls and emails, my account STILL hasn’t been unfrozen – all over a single transfer request, with me being the recipient. If you’re experiencing an emergency, like I am, and need the funds ASAP, don’t hold your breath. I would recommend using literally ANY other app- their customer service is so totally useless, they can’t even verify my email. Beyond ridiculous. Shameful.
Cleared my password without notice and made it impossible to login on a new device without a reset. That’s a jerk move; do better. Also, add instant PayPal transfer. This is a PayPal property! Come on, folks! I should be able to use a PayPal property to rapidly transfer money to my PayPal account. It’ll just make it more complete. Finally, add dark mode. Seriously! It saves battery and it’s easier on the eyes. Be more economic and more environmentally friendly.
This is the worst app I have tried to use I downloaded the app and set everything up. The moment the card came, the account was suspended for no reason. I’ve been jumping through hoops to try and make it work, but their automated system just repeats itself about needing things that have already been done, multiple times. Got to the point that I wanted to cancel the whole thing, but it won’t let me cause it’s suspended. I’m just gonna delete the app and forget about it.
I’ve had venmo for years and never had a problem. The past year+ I’ve had this issue. No matter where I go or how big or small my balance is my card will deny . Every. Single.time. I’ve had 3 “new” cards. I’ve chatted before I went shopping to be sure it would work I’m assured every time that it will work, no issues. And then everytime it denies. I’ve tried it all so I’m done with venmo they can’t even solve issues, so why should I use it. Useless. I’ll go to cashapp my card work everytime.
Can’t reset password. Tried this a few years ago and it was a bad experience. Giving it another try and appear to be blocked from using. Developer link email bombed email app. Got a contact but it is like they really do not care if you use it or not. After several emails giving up. Not worth the trouble. They unfreeze account anyway. Go figure… Now can’t verify phone. Just not meant to be i guess.
Constant issues with sending money. Slays taking me that there is a problem and try again later, but never works. It has been a problem since downloading. Chat help takes so long to respond that it times out and freezes. Then they assume I don’t have a problem anymore or tell me to chat again later. I can not load money to account as I always get error messages. It has been nothing but a headache.
This app is extremely difficult to get to do anything. Registered. Added a card. It can’t find anyone. Tried to pay to a phone, it says there’s no money. Thought that meant add.to the Venmo balance but all transfers only pay out not in. It won’t pay directly to a number. Won’t use the card on file. Won’t take a deposit. Can’t find the person I’m trying to pay. It’s just bad. Like really really bad.
Venmo charges for using credit card on top of credit card fees. But it’s too dangerous to use anything else because of their data breaches. UPDATE: Venmo responded to my review by listing the “anything else” options. As I stated, they are too dangerous to use because of data breaches. Only a credit card offers protection and does not compromise banking information in case of a breach. It appears that Venmo didn’t actually read my review.
I have used Venmo successfully until a few days ago when my payments would not go through. I’ve been trying to send Christmas money to my grandchildren and keep getting an error that it can’t go through. After 2 chats with live agents I got scripted identical answers. Their fix is for me to use a credit card instead of my checking account which will cost me a 3% fee. That’s not a fix. Very disappointing.
The app is horrible. I struggled with transferring money for 2 weeks. After attempt to pay, I received messages about issues, it happened every time when I tried to send money. Finally, my account was frozen and the support wasn’t very helpful. At the end of the day, venmo support suggest to not use theirs app (!) because they do not know how to make my account able to send money. Nothing works here…
This app has been practically unusable for about year. The utility of the service is great but the app is a buggy mess. Constantly freezing and locking me out of any options beyond force closing and starting it up again. It is incredibly frustrating. I believe it likely has to do with the biometric lock I enabled, but I’m not risking security for usability. Fix your app!
I don’t usually leave reviews, but the Venmo app is so buggy, it’s just embarrassing. For several years now and across at least three different Pixel phones, the app almost always freezes after opening if I scroll even a little bit down my home screen feed. Seems like very basic pagination functionality that’s broken. Apart from that: show me my transactions first when I look at a contact, not the public feed (which is often empty)! After a transaction, show me that transaction in the list!C’mon
Good but too much going on. Payment options and execution very clear and straightforward. However UI is very confusing. The list of social messages from the network, the first thing you see on the screen, is useless to me. But there is no way to disable. Instead, I’d like to see a history of my payments and this is difficult to get. The purchases switch activate fees for the receiver, but the UI doesn’t say that. There is a lack of transparency on key information for payments
The recent UI updates are counterintuitive when it comes to user experience. Payment history is now located below pending transactions. I have a long list of pending requests sent to other people, so I have to scroll a long way to even see my recent history. The history doesn’t display notes either – you have to click into the transaction in order to see notes, and click a second time to leave a comment. Clicking back brings me to the top of the pending list again. So very annoying.
Haven’t had any problems ever in the years I’ve had Venmo (hope I’m not jinxing myself🤞🏽). Payments/transfers to others are quick and easy – except for the actual transfer period to a bank account, which can go faster if you pay a fee but I like to keep all my money lol. The interface or design is simple enough. And it’s a free app/ service, so what more can you ask for (ok, well I would like more emoji choices 😜)? So far, no complaints.
UI gets less usable with every update. Now the list of completed transactions only shows the dollar amount and the person who sent/received money. If you want to know what a transaction was for, you have to manually open it, and if it wasn’t the transaction you were looking for, then you get bumped back up to the top of the list again when you exit the transaction info page. Highly inconvenient. Barely usable.
Since the last update, the amount of information that is collected by Plaid to connect Venmo to the bank account is absurd. Collecting all transaction history, credit lines, locations, balances, investment accounts, in some cases SSN and employer and payroll information. Give me a break. Very poor privacy. There are far better alternatives out there. I’m happy to uninstall.
Really wish they would get rid of the public social features or at the very least not make it the home page. I just don’t care about monitoring other people’s transactions or want mine known. The app also does not work well while traveling internationally. It has lots of poor messages that create a terrible user experience. But the good part of the app is that it works well for basic money transfers in the US.
As an app that allows u to transfer money quickly to another person, it works just fine. That being said this thing has alot of issues. They market it as the future if banking and being able to do so much, but more often than not it does very very poorly. Can’t add funds without a huge several day delay, several ATMs add an additional service charge because it’s a venmo card. Venmo has the foundation of a great banking app. Unfortunately it’s execution is lacking.
Makes it’s so easy to help a friend out that’s states away or vice versa. I also use it for payments on my rental property. It keeps easy track of that income come April. I only received a charge once for an instant transfer to my bank. It was like $15 on $3000 transfer. It’s free if you wait the required time, 3 days or so. I highly recommend this app over the others. I use it regularly and hope they don’t change it’s features.
Works well for money transfers. But why would I want to see money transfers of other people, many of whom I don’t even know?? This is a ridiculous feature. Fortunately, ypu can make my transfers private by changing the settings, but I can still see other people’s transfers. (BTW, with a recent upgrade, my transfers became visible again and I had to change it back to private, a second time.
Venmo is the worse app I’ve ever dealt with. They froze my account before I could ever use it. Jumped through all their hoops to unfreeze it. Verified that it was unfrozen, and then when I went to transfer money to my bank account found its still frozen. I only wish I could give them the minus 5 score they deserve. As soon as I get this figured out (again) I won’t be able to close my account fast enough! Meanwhile my $100s are out of my reach. VENMO SUCKS!
Decent app, but a sleepy move in the latest update. To push adoption of their so called “purchase protection” (really just a blatant attempt to extort money from it’s users) every time now, there is a UI load delay when completing an outgoing transaction. Without showing the page is still loading, if you try to click “complete” when it first appears, you will actually be clicking the toggle for “purchase protection”. No, i don’t want to turn on purchase protection for my half of the check… 😤
Don’t use this app. Cash App is immensely better! Takes three days for a transfer INTO Venmo to hit your bank, which, if there aren’t enough funds by the time it goes through, its functionally like bouncing a check and comes with all the fees from your bank and a reversed charge to Venmo as well! So then you owe both parties money! In this age of instant banking there is no reason for it. Choose Cash App instead! Transfers both ways are instant and you never have to worry about an overdraft.
Traumatic is an understatement. My first 2 transactions went through, then the 3rd one, the nightmare started…I even added different accounts and ALL we’re declined for NO logical reasons. Expiration dates current, available funds all there. This app is just glitchy and spiteful and it’s the only one my friends in other states use. Incredibly frustrating to miss a payment deadline through no fault of my own.
