Sound bar controls are very limited. It doesn’t even tell you what sound format it is playing. I have had other sound bars and their apps would give all the information and let me adjust everything about it. This app does not. I have to use my remote to change most of the settings. Like I said it is super basic of controls compared to other brands.
Still can’t stop repetative weather notifications ! I do not need a reminder once an hour or even once every 2 hours for a weather event where the warning or watch has not changed! So very frustrating to get notice after notice after notice of the same event. Please, for the love of god, make it stop! There must be a selection to allow weather notifications when a watch/warning starts, changes, or ends. NOT every 15 min, 30 min, 1 hour, or 2 hours!
Absolutely useless. After several attempts, I have been unable to complete the task. First, it tells me I’m offline but the dryer wasn’t. Then it says washer is disconnected. The ON button would not work for about 10 minutes. I finally Uninstalled the APP and reinstalled it. Now it’s only running a wash cycle. Absolutely useless and time- consuming. My washer has a recall relating to potential for overheating and the link was sent to me by Samsung. Now, I cannot use my washer.
Better than 3 stars, but not by much. The interface is not at all intuitive, and even after years of household use, I still spend way too much time navigating, trying to find things. Second issue with this app is a dearth of helpful help files. There are some there, but they are ridiculously generic and provide no model specific information which makes them pretty much useless. It knows what model device I have (a 6 passenger washing machine for example); not sounding too smart to me.
Can’t get this app to work! I have a washing machine that has a recall because of overheating issues and the app is supposed to fix it with updating the software. When I open the app on my phone it says my phone needs to turn on it’s WiFi and Bluetooth to communicate with the washer — yet my WiFi and Bluetooth is on. So — my washing machine is inoperable unless I’m not afraid of burning my house down and everyone in it! This sucks!
I have to agree with many reviews I’ve seen here. The app is non-functional. Tried to set it up with my TV. Says it’s offline. Tried clearing cache, deleted and reinstalled app. Nothing works. It can’t find the TV (and it IS in the supported device list). However, I have several 3rd party apps that see and can cast to the TV just fine. You’d think Samsung could get their own stuff to work right from jump street. Wasted a lot of time on this.
SMART THINGS IS A JOKE When you want to stream your phone to your TV it should be effortless. “Smart view” nearly never works! Big inconvenience when you have friends over and you want to stream a video or sports game from your phone. The connection between phone and TV is very unpredictable, this is unacceptable that my Samsung phone finds it so difficult to connect to my Samsung TV, however an iPhone connects to my Samsung TV effortlessly with one touch! Get it together Samsung!!!!!!
Getting worse than it used to be. It seems they are more interested in tracking how I use my TV more so than having a quality piece of software. I have been stuck in a loop of not being able to turn on my TV and the app telling me the TV is not turned on. I push the button for it to turn on and I get a diagnostics. It used to be very easy to turn on the TV and without that ability, this app is worthless. Also, it’s odd you have to use their track pad to type in letters instead of a keyboard.
Both my phone and TV are Samsung products, so ypu would think that they would pair well together using Samsung’s own app? Nope, app is non functional. Tells me my TV is off, server is off line, or will simply freeze if it does recognize the TV is on. I had much higher expectations, especially since alot of the reviews I’ve seen are older. It’s reasonable to expect them to be fixed by now, however this is not the case.
All these new device firmware updates before the end of the year are not good. The entire setup is unreliable. It was much more stable with the old device firmware. Routines not working and still don’t work if I delete the routine and reset up. Not working well with Kasa tp-link devices. Unreliable with other devices. Samsung buttons don’t always work. Had to delete and re-setup. Lights switches showing in an off state and they are still on. Time to trash smartthings! Sick of this…
Simply doesn’t work. I have a pair of wireless earbuds and I USED to be able to find them by using the original “Galaxy Wearable” app; however, now it makes me go through this “Smart Things” app that constantly needs updates to work in the first place despite the fact that it never does. Sometimes I can’t find my headphones at all because I can’t update this app or because this app won’t let them do their “ring” feature in order to find them if the headphone is touching literally anything at all
Utterly useless. Can’t login to Smartthings since the app redirects to a page saying EVERY browser is incompatible, even the ones recommended by the error message. 😒 Tried with Chrome, Edge, even Samsung Internet. No matter; same error message. It’s baffling why they would cripple even a login page so badly. What even is the point of the browser check here? It’s not a security feature, so I’m unsure what it’s accomplishing, even if it was implemented correctly. (From OnePlus 9 Pro)
I have a Samsung smart monitor with a Google pixel 6 phone. And for a couple months had no problem using the app when I couldn’t find my remote control. But for the last couple weeks now intermittently doesn’t recognize when the monitor is on. So you can’t use the remote. It just keeps popping up with a message to turn your monitor on. No matter what I do, it fails to recognize when the monitor is on. Eventually it will, but not today. I’ve tried everything. 👎🏼👎🏼
Doesn’t connect with very many things, the things it does connect with, there’s very limited to no control of the device. It has issues with the most widely available and used services, Amazon, Google, and Hue….(it shows paired, but nothing else, doesn’t let you control it, it’s just paired…..).
Not impressed at all. Trying to connect my washing machine to SmartThings (because of a recall that the washing mashine may cause a fire!!!) but when trying to type in my wifi password, it doesn’t let me do it. I know I’m not the only one this is happening to. When you Google it, lots of people are experiencing this issue.
The more this app updates, the more devices it tries to control. The more devices it controls the worst it does. I have TVs that come on randomly! I then can’t find them when I want to turn them on or off. “Smart Devices” also tries to take over my alarm systems. It turns off the alarm systems during the day and leaves me without coverage when I’m away. Disable this app!
The app is unintuitive. On the main screen of the refridgerator manager I have most the options then they tuck the 2 features away in a settings menu. There’s a few buttons on the bottom (cook, home manager thing, energy usage). When you click on them, they just tell you to access them by going through a different menu. All of this because I want to turn off the door alarm and it seems there’s no way to do it…
God help you if your solar powered remote craps out and you’re stuck using this app for a TV remote. Every input has to travel to Samsung’s HQ in South Korea and, presumably, somebody presses buttons and those signals come all the way back to your TV and things probably happen. Actually that might be a faster method. Sometimes button inputs aren’t read at all. Also, you’ll need to restart the app every time you do something else with your phone because it will disconnect from the TV
Buggy mess. I bought a very expensive Frame TV, and I’m unable to upload any photos to it because the SmartThings app keeps telling me my phone and TV aren’t connected to the same network. They very clearly are connected to the same network, and the other functions, such as the remote and the app launcher within SmartThings, work just fine. It’s only the art mode photo upload function that doesn’t work at all.
The Settings menu option took a few days to show up in the app for my newly installed GE Enbrighten smart light switches. This allowed me to control the setting of the locator light. Secondly, the two-factor authentication, by default, keeps wanting to send something to a device I no longer have access to and doesn’t offer a way to change the default authentication device. Thirdly, I somehow ended up with two locations named “Home”, and the app won’t let me delete one. Overall the app is usable.
Bought a Samsung washer that is supposed to be able to connect with my phone using this app. Downloaded app, went through steps to connect. Got to the point where I was asked to put in the network password it acted like I was not even typing. If I hit “show password” it gave an error message saying that the max password length had been exceeded. I’ve deleted and reinstalled, cleared memory, used different devices, etc. Same on all. Now they want access to my phone… nope! Not worth the effort.
This app was great until I hadn’t used it long enough to require logging in again. Every time I enter a code sent via email or text it just fails saying the code is too old or it just sends another code without ever finalizing the verification. I’ve wasted 20 minutes trying to login without being able to. It will lock you out with enough attempts. Very frustrating! Not sure how I’m going to control any devices ATM. Guess I’ll try again tomorrow. Horrible user experience!
Super buggy, but I unfortunately broke my remote so I’m stuck using this app for now. It often won’t recognize that my TV is on, and therefore won’t let me use the remote controls. Also, the remote will sort of time out after maybe 30 minutes so that I have close exit the app, reopen it, and then be able to adjust the volume or pause.
Pretty much a useless app for the Samsung fridge. Family hub inside fridge view hardly ever works. Fails to load image. I can see a recent image inside right on the fridge. And no I’m not going to waste my time contacting support who will not be able to fix it. Yes the fridge has been reset and restarted multiple times and yes it’s the latest firmware and version of the app.
I have never seen such a poorly designed app in my life. Let’s start with aesthetics. The app opens to a light background and all the options are labeled with a color with little contrast so good luck determining what to choose to navigate. There are toggle buttons not clearly labeled as to what they do. Then when you pick them, maybe they work, maybe they don’t. Hit the home screen to get to your app tiles but then there is no way to toggle between them. Really!!
Looks good works poorly. You would think that an app developed by Samsung would be 4 or 5 stars. You would be wrong. It provides basic on off controls easily. Anything else is difficult or flat out doesn’t work. Support for Samsung mini split HVAC systems is minimal. In 2022 it should have AI and learning to run these intelligently to minimize energy usage.
Has Samsung ever made a bad app/service? Yes, it finally happened… Bought a Galaxy Tag+ to track my cat, but the thing doesn’t work *properly. It says it uses other galaxy phones, when you’re not around, to update. No. It won’t allow me to share the device w/ others, and yes, I’ve tried EVERYTHING! Location history does not work-“network/server error.”
My range decided I should connect via SmartThings. Now I get notifications every time my wife preheats the stove, when it thinks dinner is ready, etc. But not just one notification-4. All obviously at the same moment. Bad code! Bad architecture! Should never happen. I can even see part of the problem. Multiple placed to enable notifications. Please fix it, or contact me and I will.
App is buggy and does not allow consistent access to features included with TV. This is particularly problematic with the Frame TV, as it constantly shows an error that the app and TV must be on the same network. This occurs even when they are. The issue persists despite multiple re-installs and resets of both the app and TV.
What is going on with the live feed videos constantly disconnecting or moving at 2fps? It doesn’t matter how good the connection is, the video will quality drop tremendously and at times the recording won’t pick anything up or give me a blank video. **Edit the app is once again broken. Videos are being recorded but unable to play. Can access live mode but all the activity before is a blank screen with recordings going on over two hours. Even previously viewable recordings are not working.
source button or widget PLEASE. new tv. great picture. great resolution. not a fan of it optimizing the picture when i start or stop streaming in a tab. routines are good as widgets. the remote has NO SOURCE button. there is no way to add a widget that changes the source w/o creating a routine that powers the tv on. in 2022, there should be a way to cycle thru connected devices (that are on) w/ a single button on a remote or in an app. feels like 1985 and i have to get up to change the channel
Recent update appears to have broken it. Supposedly Family Hub is no longer going to work with future software updates, and Smart Things will do it all. However, Smart Things still links to Family Hub instead of the features that should now be in Smart Things. The YouTube video on how to control my fridge from smart things indicates there should be a button to upload photos – there’s not. There’s just the Family Hub button that takes you to a screen that says Family Hub doesn’t work.
Edit – December 7, 2022 Finally able to create new routines.. 200 limit for scenes and devices is still a dead end. Right now I have under 100 physical devices. It appears it also counts virtual switches as well as devices more than once. Aeotec now makes the hardware (rebranded) which is good, however not fully supported. Example the Aeotec Cam 360 sold as a SmartThings Camera is only supported for 20 seconds clips. Premium cost, minimal native support.
Up until recently this app worked perfectly fine for controlling my Samsung TV. So much so that when the remote for the TV stopped working I never even bothered to replace it because I could fully control the TV from this app. However, a recent update completely broke this functionality for me. SmartThings forgot the pre-existing connection to my TV and now it won’t even detect it when trying to scan for the device. Samsung please restore the original functionality here.
All devices disappeared with upgrade. Scene buttons are still present and work, but I can no longer see devices to operate them individually. When editing an existing scene, the devices show as “Unknown device”. All “room” screens are empty. Update: Following Samsung advice, I cleared app data cache, uninstalled, reinstalled. Now no favorites or devices, but see scenes and automations defined. Effectively the same state, but lost all favorite designations as well.
This app has continued to deteriorate. I have a smart fridge with the shopping list app, very handy if you are easily able to access the app while at the grocery store. However, each time the app gets a software update it becomes more and more difficult to find the shopping list, it takes 5 steps now what used to take 3. Now I need to download another app within the smart things app to access the shopping list when before it was front and center. It’s quicker to take a picture of the list
Soundbar Q900 is just “loading” forever I have to remove and add it again every. Single. Time. Useless. Thank god there’s a physical remote EDIT AFTER RESPONSE: I have tried that about 10 times this also happens on new devices the app buggy, if the device is on the local network, there is no need to phone home via the cloud first. That just makes everything slower. In sticking to the physical remote. The app has been like this for over 2 years.
The recent update killed the All Devices list!!! – it no longer shows all devices. Favorites puts the room name first. Still can’t put Scenes in Rooms. Groups don’t support color. Zwave is slow when it works. The ON bug still persists after three years – lights go ON to full brightness regardless of dim level. Absolutely unacceptable and getting worse with every release.
This app is so FRUSTRATING, the companion app on my GW4 watch loses connection with my S22 Ultra phone. So it’s not like they are of different families of manufacturers. So if when I want to use my watch to control something set up on my phone, I still need to go get the phone and use it to control my device. Even if they are in the same room, just feet away. It works good on the phone, just not on the watch. All other watch apps work fine.
Soundbar will not connect to starlink. Phone recognizes the sound bar, The smart things app detects the proper network, but the sound bar doesn’t seem to want to connect to the new internet. The signal is just fine. I went through the steps by hitting the network button on the sound bar and everything should work. There’s no good reason for the sound bar not to link up with the Wi-Fi. Pretty garbage app and experience so far with it. Could and should be so much smoother and easier.
Well, they took a good app and turned it into an awful app. It has such a slow response time compared to the old app and there are too many clicks to get a light turned on or off now. It is not intuitive anymore. Ugh!! Not only that but it stops working for days at a time. Rebooting, uninstall/reinstall doesn’t work. It mysteriously begins working days or weeks later.
Location modes are really flaky, somedays it work but most days it doesn’t. Only a small number of device icons to choose from. UI needs a redesign, especially around automations. Maybe it will get better after the move to edge but the last couple of years have been rough.
Update: Opened a support ticket, the tech suggested uninstalling and reinstalling the app and restarting the phone, which didn’t work, but the second suggestion was to reboot the hub. I logged into my SmartThings account and rebooted the hub. That has fixed the problem. Older: Latest update lost all of my scenes/routines! They showed up for a brief moment when I opened the app after the update and then vanished. They are still in my Samsung account, but gone from the Android app.
The app was extremely buggy and slow before and had to be closed and reopened constantly to get it work. Now they’ve apparently done an update that forces you to register your screen with that app, but the registration fails every single time and there’s no way to get around it, so the app is totally broken and can’t be used at all now.
