I still have the Pro version, the one you can’t install anymore on Play. It’s a hot mess. Was a great app once. Even in Pro version, it tracks me now. Google, Facebook, The Trade Desk, Twitter, comScore, PubMatic, and Index Exchange. I can’t imagine the trackers the free version has. I’m not against monetization. One-time pricing isn’t a sustainable survival revenue for devs. However, there has to be some balance. So, I’m likely uninstalling the Pro. 😔 I paid. Why do I have trackers then?
Years ago, after trying this app, I immediately bought the pro version because it was what I needed. The pro version included no ads. But was unpleasantly surprised when I switched to a new phone. My pro version is no longer available on Google Play, only free with a huge amount of ads. It’s sad that developers treat their users this way. Disappointed
This used to be an amazing app (and i happily bought the “pro” version long ago), but at some point they decided to add invasive video ads (which play even when on cellular data) every time you click on a post to read. It’s completely unusable now. It made me very sad to see it go, but with a heavy heart i finally uninstalled it. So long, greader… You used to be so great but you’ve changed.
What a steep decline in quality this app has experienced. Moving to a subscription model is one thing, and I try to keep business decisions in perspective, but the video ads with audio are disruptive, especially in an app that’s used primarily for reading. That’s enough for me to stop using it, after doing so for so many years. I wouldn’t mind silent ads as much. Good luck to the dev, but this is just further proof that nothing is forever.
