This has been my go-to fitness app since 2011. I LOVED IT!!!!! I would always recommend it to friends and family. But after the update, all the things I loved about it, are gone. Being able to download the workouts, seeing the workout routine before downloading, playing music during the workout, having rest times in between, and tracking progress. I hate that after 12 years, I am thinking about finding a different app. 😕
I haven’t been using it for very long, but my experience has been mixed. I like the gentle yoga sessions and the feature for rating how easy it was for me. However, it is so annoying to have to log back in every single time I want to use it. Sometimes it just doesn’t work, so I give up and use something else. Also, I got a text message while doing a session, and that somehow froze the video and voice over while the video was still progressing, making me lose my spot. These are strange problems.
Edit: they updated the login process, now I can’t login. It just sits at the “processing your request” screen. This is actually a great work out app. The variety of classes, different trainers and ability levels is wonderful. I removed 1 star solely because the app used to have built-in chromecast. That has been removed and now to cast, one must externally mirror the phone. Mirroring has a smaller screen, some lag, and just isn’t as good. Edit: I see chromecast from the app is back! 5 stars.
Great app for simple at home workouts. I have been using one of the beginner programs with short workouts that don’t require equipment to start getting back into shape after years of neglect. So far having a program to follow has really made it easier for me to stay on schedule. I highly recommend this app for anyone looking for trainer led workouts from home.
Did a quick re-download and it still sucks. I’ve used this app on and off since it came out in like 2011/2012 and it was my go-to for a long time. I HATE that almost all of the workouts are now videos, it’s basically YouTube at this point. I liked being able to preview the workouts and I preferred the timer feature as opposed to straight video. I am clearly not the only one who doesn’t like the update. Finally deleted it off my phone, hit me up when it reverts back to the old version.
Used to be 5 star and I’d recommend it to everyone. Now I can’t get the in workout music to turn off and it plays over my music. Which makes it unuseable for me. Need to listen to my music to do the cardio. Also the video workouts that used to be white board workouts are useless. Previous review: Great trainer led classes as well as routines to follow. Love the programs and they keep adding content. Great for working out at home. Best of all it’s free! Something good to come out of the pandemic.
It’s odd how Nike continues to make changes that reduce the accessibility of the app–in this case, the removal of downloading workouts and the move to video-only drills. If you don’t have a data / internet connection (or a metered connection), then it makes the app less useful. It’s also just plain broken: you have to constantly log in, and notifications about new features lead to a “Content not available” page. I wish they’d fix it, but it’s clear that they have no incentive to do so.
Bring back downloadble workouts, please! Having everything in a class format burns up too much mobile data and the app crashes all the time, unless using WiFi. It’s also super inconvient to not be able to see what moves are in any given workout ahead of time, or to easily repeat or skip ahead to a different part of a workout. Nike, just do it!
Latest update brought “enhancements” that now prevent you from previewing the exercises. Now it’s just one big video for the whole thing. Can’t see the progression bar per exercises any longer. You can no longer save the workouts. If you go international, you better have a good data plan… Filters equipment search is a joke… look for nothing, “basic equipment” or “full gym”.
Of all the actually free fitness apps I’ve tried so far, this one had by far the best guided home workouts. They were varied, intense, and had great video/audio to explain each exercise without an excess of annoying chatter or beeps. Unfortunately they removed the “plans” feature, crippling the app for me. Having a great workout library is only half of what I want from a fitness app. I also want to be held to a schedule, and measure my progress against it. Plans did that, but now they’re gone. So it was good for most of 2018, then they crippled it. ————- EDIT: Well, they sort of re-added plans, but now they (and a lot of their workout library) are locked behind “Premium”. Sad day. I guess they need to make a buck somehow, but I’ve already moved on to alternatives and this gives me no reason to come back.
The most recent update changed the format of most workouts to video and I’m unable to turn off the guidance, which interferes with listening to music or a podcast. I really liked being able to see the full workout and decide based on that whether I wanted to do the workout or find another. I can no longer do that with the recent update, which is really frustrating. Please return to the old format!
Overall, it’s a very strong app: the design is a little overwhelming, but the workout trainers are solid and the tips and coaching within the workouts are great. They recently got rid of plans, which was a fantastic tool for staying with the programs they’ve set up. Now the responsibility is on you; for better motivated people I’m sure it’s great, but I need that extra push.
I have been using this app on and off for various years now. Nevertheless, the resent update was dissapointing. Videos are good as an option, yet if you want to listen to your music or something else they don’t work. In addition, they are very difficult to watch on a phone (specially cause the screen does not tilt), so I have to pause constantly to be sure what is the next movement. I think they shouldn’t have pulled out all the content in the format they had it. I hope they bring it back in.
This is the best workout app I’ve found! I appreciate not being bombarded by ads and the format of the workouts is super helpful if you’re unsure of a move. Update 3/10/2022: what happened? The format that I loved is gone! Everything is in a solid video format now. I really loved the being able to see the segments separately in a list as well as a timer bar at the bottom of my screen. I use straight from my phone and it’s difficult to see the timing now.
I was surprised that this app didn’t come with some sort of notification to keep you on track. it would always reset the current workout plan and I would have to fiddle around by opening and closing the app or going to my settings clicking on random things and going back to the workout tab. sometimes it would work other times it would take a few more tries. I also had it installed on my ipad and it didn’t have the option to edit the schedule. I expected more from a Nike based product.
Disappointed with removal of the Plans feature. Plans was the one feature that kept me motivated to continue working out. It put together my workout schedule for me, helped me keep track of my progress against the goal of completing all the workouts, and adjusted the schedule each week to account for my progress. Now i don’t even have the option to put together a plan in the app. collections are ok but it doesn’t put them in a calendar or help me track progress. So very disappointed. Was 5 🌟.
This is a good app with a lot of good workouts which I really enjoy. The premium workouts are great, even if there are not a lot of ‘programs’, I think you could get through most of them in a few months, considering even if you want to do all of them! There are major glitches in the app though. My app freezes (as others have mentioned), the sync to Google Fit has never worked properly, making me have to log workouts manually (which is annoying). The fact that you can’t use casting to put the workouts onto a bigger screen is a huge misstep as well. They are doable from a phone/tablet, but I find myself having to reposition the phone based on what kind of movement is being done (on the floor vs. upright) to make sure I can follow and have proper form.
I’ve been using the app for more than three years now. It has been great, until this new update. The workouts are the same, but the workout guides have transitioned from intuitive, interactive coaches to a rather lazily-made video that plays as the guide. As a result, the video quiets my music that I play while I work out. I also can’t disable the audio to “drill-timing only” anymore, and it becomes more distracting to me rather than helpful. I’ll re-rate once they revert to the older app.
The app has great workouts but it often freezes, or the timer and visuals will stop mid workout. This is very irritating especially in the middle of a cardio workout. Not only that, but when this happens the time doesn’t register with my tracking system. I’ve even tried removing and reinstalling the app and the problem persists. I’m glad this is happening during the free premium period. I’d be even more upset if I were paying and this happened. I’m used quality from Nike this is disappointing.
I want to love NTC! The direct, no-frills workouts are a refreshing change of pace. Although there appear to be a lot of workouts, the variety between and within them is really quite thin. Nike acknowledges that Spotify integration doesn’t work and they don’t plan to fix it. NTC boasts a Chromecast second-screen experience, but they really just mean that you can cast your phone to the TV, as you always can. Many UI elements are just plain busted. Narration timing is inconsistent. So close, Nike.
I used this app exclusively 6 or 7 years ago and it helped me get in great shape. Sadly, it has slowly declined in quality and value since. You use to be able choose your goal and set up a program and determine the days and it would notify you when it was time to work out. The interface was much better. It created a schedule for you. Now its just a handful of workouts and the option to “upgrade to premium” to get better variety of workouts. So so so disappointed with the change.
Love the app but took a star off because it’s been glitchy lately. This app has been a great resource for working out at home. I was initially bummed that the old programs were gone, but I love the video format of the premium programs and don’t miss the old ones at all! But since the last update, the video glitches, causing the audio to be ahead of the video by 30 seconds by the end of a 15 min workout. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but it makes a big difference when you’re pushing thru a workout
Not a big fan of recent update. I used to use this app like a year ago. I really enjoyed it. I especially liked being able to make my own workout schedule in the app. it helped motivate me having a set plan. After reinstalling I’m very sadden they got rid of that feature. The app itself is okay. It has a good variety of little workouts. As a stay at home mom it helps me feel more accomplished since I’m stuck at home mostly.
Love this app. Been using the individual classes for a year or so (before pandemic) on the non-premium. Nike did a generous thing of allowing the programs to be accessible during the pandemic. It’s pretty much free, and as long as you have a phone you can see the visual demonstrations of each exercise. There is a ring to tell you when that exercise time is complete, too!
I liked this app better before they got rid of the Plans feature to replace it with Collections. I appreciated the ability to have a workout schedule automatically planned and adjusted. With the new Collections feature, it seems like you have to do that work yourself.i don’t know about others, but sometimes “The app told me to” is the motivation I need to work out. Also, you can’t adjust the equipment needed for yo perform the workouts in Collections like you could for the Plans feature.
I really really love this app. But there’s two problems. For some reason now I’m not able to chromecast the workouts to my TV. Chromecast will be one through the app and the waiting screen is on my TV but the workouts still play through my phone. Also, I’m in a program and one of the workouts won’t register as completed no matter how many times I play it. I didn’t have any problems with the app until about a week ago so I’m thinking that a recent update messed something up.
The most recent update took a great app and broke it, for no discernable reason. Videos that take forever to upload; random log-on requirements; removal of old formats that some might find easier to follow than a video. Been using this 5-7 days a week since they put it out. I know it’s free, so I guess I can’t complain. Was a wonderful partnership while it lasted.
I really enjoyed this app but the best feature was just removed. I’m so disappointed. Being able to preview the workout and each exercise individually beforehand was incredibly helpful for preparing for workouts or determining if it was the right fit for me but the workouts have all been switched to “class format”. I hope they’ll consider adding back the preview option even if they keep the video format. Why not both?
I used this app every day for years, until they forced you to have the workout audio. Then I uninstalled it. I don’t know why they had to make changes. If you look at where the good reviews were, it was when the app gave you options to either have the coach chatting at you or to not. I always chose to not so I could listen to my podcasts, music, or be on the phone. I think there may be some option to do something with a premium podcast account and linking them up but it’s so broken/ unnecessary
Up until recently I had no issues with the app. I love the design and how different workouts are broken down into different categories. However, the issue I have is with the app freezing during “class” formats. You could be in the middle of a yoga workout and the app will just freeze. I wish there a download option. That way I could download the video and not have to worry about it freezing during workouts 😅
The workouts are very challenging and there is a good variety of workouts to choose from.Unfortunately, the app either freezes up once opened and then crashes, or the workouts start to play but then I get the grey screen and nothing else. I tried on two different devices, a tablet and android phone with one of the results I mentioned above. I keep trying to get this to work, but I am ready to stop trying at this point. It’s frustrating. My low rating is based solely on the functionality. The trainers and workouts are great, if I can only get to do them!
I write this review mostly in hope that an old feature returns. Overall a very useful app from bodyweight to some weight training. There’s also always new workouts added frequently. However the one feature that set them apart(The one most of us want back) was the workout plans. The plans were great because they updated weekly based on your personal effort and progress. It’s been replaced with a feature called collection which I personally do not use.
I have been using this app of and on for 10 years. The workouts are excellent. I wish I had the option to choose class or whiteboard option for every workout. Sometimes the class version is perfect for my needs. Sometimes I need the whiteboard version. I am also really disappointed that I cannot get the music to work with this app on my Google pixel phone. If the whiteboard option was available on all workouts, then I could listen to my workout playlists while working out.
The new update is terrible! I use this app every day and I want it to go back to the way it was. ALL of the workouts formats changed. Now I can’t see the upcoming workouts and when listening to my music I can barely hear it because the instructors talk too much and it’s faded in the background. I have tried setting audio to none in the app settings and it still doesn’t make a difference. This update is really awful I am considering not using it anymore all together.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great thing to have access to the premium workouts and programs for free. I really enjoy using the app, but it doesn’t support Chromecast. So it’s super hard to workout in my garage when trying to keep up with the trainer on my tiny phone. Also, when I tried screen mirroring, it’s like the app knew and would completely stop working. I’ve tried on both Apple and Android. No luck.
I’ve been seeing this on other reviews, and I wanted to add my review here so it finally gets fixed. I’ve been using this app since March 2020, and it’s been amazing, but the latest update, happened sometime around March 2021, has made it impossible to play trainer-led class videos. I get the same error message each time, that there was an error loading the video, and if I try to click on a video twice, the whole app will crash. Please please fix this. Those videos were really helpful.
I appreciate the fact that the premium workouts are free, as, like most of you, I’m currently working out in my basement. Ab workouts are good, the rest are just ok, but hey, free. Main gripe is the app has fits if anything else happens on your phone during a workout. Text messages, push notifications, anything else, cause the app to lose volume- and effect the volume of the music playing in the background. Touch the screen at that point, work out over.
I loved this app for years but the new update sucks, it lost everything that made it unique. The video format is like every other video/home workout ever made, you can’t see the whole workout schedule as you work through it. It won’t turn off the audio even though I changed it in the settings and it makes me log in again every time I open it. The old version changed my whole relationship with exercise, I recommended it to everyone I know and I loved it so much, what a downgrade ☹️
Used to be great. No longer supports Chromecast. Major deal breaker for me as it makes working out with my spouse harder. I am unsure if this is a bug or a misunderstanding of the use case of such an app. With the pandemic and shelter in place – would it not have made sense that people would transition to in-home workouts? A TV would have been essential to this experience. Previous Review: Great work at home workouts! I enjoy the HIIT programs available.
Please bring back Plans! NTC has been my favorite and only workout app for the past 3+ years, mainly because of the Plans feature. It felt really personalized, helped me stay on track, and automatically changed my weekly workout regimen based on my activity level and type. It was like having a little personal trainer in my phone. Now that Plans has become Collections, it feels like I’m just aimlessly choosing from a library of workouts, and it feels a lot less personalized/customizable.
