Descripción

At Google Nest, we make products that are beautiful, helpful and easy to use. The Nest app is no exception.

Control your Nest thermostat, arm and disarm your Nest Secure alarm system, see your home with Nest Cam, and get an alert if Nest Protect goes off – all in one place. And receive notifications on your Android phone or tablet.

Nest uses sensors, algorithms, and the location of your phone to do the right thing automatically, turning off the heat and turning on the camera when you leave. Forget to set the alarm? It will notice, and send you a Remind Me alert.

  1. The quality has improved from the original transition. I was very happy with my Nest doorbell when it was still “Nest”. I don’t get the same quality of performance now with the Google relationship. My notifications are coming in sometimes 45 minutes after the event on the app so I had to setup email notifications which are timely. I am unhappy with the response time on the app as it defeats the purpose of having a video doorbell.

It’s a good app for simple settings, but the schedule interface is so profoundly bad that I can’t rate this more than 3 stars. They created a UX so unique it feels borderline alien, and it’s on a screen that you use so infrequently that you will never spend the time to learn it. It isn’t intuitive, it isn’t pretty, and it is so unusable it probably is costing consumers considerable amounts of money because they can’t figure out how to do something as basic as a nighttime schedule.

  3. It has a mind of its own! I have it set to 68 for heat and it turns itself on and heats to 70. I’ll turn it off at night because I don’t like to be hot and I don’t trust it to keep the right temp – and I’ll STILL wake up to it running and heating my place to 70/71. I turned off learning mode, since the previous owner said it caused nothing but problems, and it’s STILL causing problems. I do love that I can adjust the temp from my phone, but I feel l have to fuss with it too much.

There are so many things I like.. And then there little things that bug me. 1) the copy and paste for schedule settings is a pain 2) the history isn’t live. It’s a day old. 3) if the thermostat is changed in a close time frame, it’s impossible to see the setting 4) there’s no guest feature to limit the setting to a specific high or low. We’ve had guests set to as low as 55 and as high as 85. 5) either nest nor home app gives enough info to give you for a one app solution.

Horrible at reconnecting to WiFi after power failure. It’s ok, the data on the main screen is not ideal. It shows what the thermo is set at & not what the temperature IS! That’s what it should show. when you click on the thermo icon, you get a large image (nice) but again, the largest number is what is set at. It should be The current temp. Yes it’s on the curve. It would be nice to make that a setting we can change. Also, I’d like to see temperature history… There is none.

  6. Learning to set a schedule is trickier than I expected. But the fact that it learns from settings I actually use helps. I love that it has a motion sensor. Having it show the current settings on the dial is very convrnient. But the best thing, to me, is that I can set changes from my phone, bcz I’m arthritic. Great help!

  7. You don’t have the option to record any time you’re viewing the camera, but you can opt to screen record from your phone. The image quality is pretty good on the camera, but it quickly goes out of focus the more you Zoom out into the distance. The motion alert is reasonable: not too sensitive. For the price of the doorbell camera, it isn’t bad, but the camera image quality could be better. We’ve had ours for 5-7yrs.

  8. For the most part I like this app, but it really needs improvement. 1) When it notifies me, it should give a better description and a thumbnail. 2) When I go to look at what just happened, there’s always video lag. Eventually I can see what happened, but by the time I can see the video, it’s too late. 3) Better AI detection would be good too. I don’t want to get notified when a spider builds a web across the camera or a moth flaps by in the night. Other than those 3 things, it’s a great app.

  9. Julie dice:

Like the old version. Very inconsistent since last update. Says we are away from home when we are not. Doesn’t follow schedule, energy history doesn’t seem accurate. Hate it now. The lastest app update Feb 2021 says it was released in June of 2015? Offline not as much as it was in 2021, but everything else works. Wish there was a temperature hold etc.

  10. What’s the point of a digital security system without granular controls? I can’t make my system alert me when it is counting down for a full alarm?! I can’t have a widget to arm and disarm immediately?! Everything takes 10 steps it seems. Other than that I love it! 😏 [Update 2 years later] Still don’t have simple no brainier upgrades. I still have no ability to stop a over 100 dB alarm from blaring because there’s no notification option once alarm trips. Only an alert once blaring. One star.

  11. Since the first of the year of 2023 there was an update and lost the feature of a notification preview. I have tried everything to get this feature back on a Samsung 21 Ultra. I do not understand why they remove features to apps that is so convenient to the end user. With this feature you did not have to wait for the app to open and load the actual trigger of the notification. Also it seems it takes forever for the developers to get things fixed or back to the way they was.

  12. When opening the app it always takes forever to actually load the image. Sometimes not at all. In the beginning it was just easier to use it through the Google home app. It just worked better. The mic part worked better. Now that one doesn’t work very well either. The mic in the nest app has never been the best either. A lot of times the people you’re trying to talk to can’t hear you.

  13. Really disappointing. This thermostat is painfully basic and in need of some really common sense functionality. The two thermostats in my home don’t even work in tandem with each other. My upstairs compressor went out, causing the AC to run continuously for weeks. No notification from the app. Now someone accidentally threw out my remote sensor. It sat in the outside trash can for days registering between 29 and 41 degrees. Again NO Notification from the app. “Smart” thermostat? What the point?

  14. Scott dice:

Meh… so I can control my thermostat from my phone, almost all of them do that now. They say it learns my schedule, but I live with 3 girls and they’re always changing the settings to extremes based on their mood so there isn’t a schedule for it to learn. It needs a preprogram for me to enter before it starts trying to learn or at least more access to the learning feature so I can delete the outliers and random weirdness to develop a realistic schedule that works. Update: same, still sucks.

  15. Brian V dice:

I get notified of a person, but can’t connect because the app says the camera is off. It’s very confusing to use between the Nest app and Google Home app. There isn’t much support for the hub, cameras, and door bell. It feels like everything was rushed to market and Google doesn’t care about user experience. You are basically on your own, unless you can find other users to help.

  16. The facial recognition software lacks consistency and accuracy… This means it doesn’t make an announcement every time someone comes to the door, and when it does, it’s not always accurate… Ease and intuitiveness when making corrections or updates to the facial data stored by the camera would be ideal. Unfortunately, my lived experience is that the process is tedious and time-consuming.

  17. We’ve had the Nest thermostat and doorbell for several years. Haven’t had much issue with the thermostat, functionality there is great. Performance of the doorbell however has taken a significant nose dive. Once the doorbell is activated, the video stream takes over 30 seconds to load (if it loads at all, which most of the time it doesn’t). Hope you can find a solution for this soon!

  18. Tim Bowen dice:

Right now, I keep getting motion notifications when all I want is notifications of people. I get more than 200 videos per day of cars going by. Nothing I choose in settings stops that. I have a Nest doorbell wired. Corresponding with people who are supposed to be helpful is a nightmare. I don’t believe the replies are from humans, but instead from bots. It’s the only logical explanation for the failure of understanding of a simple issue that would be easy to correct.

  19. Edit: Still sucks A drag. You know that sinking feeling you get when you know something has happened at your home, so you pull up your security app to see what it was? Then the video never loads and you just get a spinning circle. That’s fun. And exactly what I want for a security system. EDIT: This app still sucks. Lags. Defeats the purpose if you can’t scroll/watch a specific moment. Almost always impossible to view a clip when you need to. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall this every day?

  20. It’s nice to have remote control of the system, but the “smart” schedule learning system is developed by someone who is on crack. Every night at 2am it turns the heat to 72, no matter what I do to “teach” it. For a while, the learned schedule was actually shown, and I could make changes, but this is no longer the case with the schedule only showing 64 degrees at all times.

  21. Nest was great before Google bought them. Now they removed the ability to view cameras with Amazon devices. You can’t pause video on the app, and if you tilt your phone the video can jump to a totally different time. Really annoying if you spend a lot of time tracking down an event. It seems like they work until there’s something you really want to see, then the video is suddenly offline or freezes up. It’s a shame because I’ve got a lot of money tied up into these, they’re great when working.

  22. The app does very well in controlling the temperature in my home either remotely or in person. I’m quite pleased with the results. The only bad side is, I am home 90% of the time and trying to use it to save money makes me struggle with being comfortable. I have tried energy saving for years and will continue to do so but with this unprecedented (in my lifetime) cold weather, I am forced to set my thermostat at a constant 68°. Sometimes my thermostat is slow to respond to 67°. A new one?

  23. I like the styling of the nest thermostat but I do not like the functionality of the app or the way it works. I just want to thermostat that does what I wanted to do. Not what it thinks I should do. It’s temperamental has all kinds of weird issues and is always suggesting that I go to some sort of Google service to help it work better A simple home screen that shows the temperature inside my house. The humidity and the outside temperature all the time would be nice.

  24. So easy to c what’s going on, and adjust multiple things. Have owned for years now always learning and adjusting, one down side in winter is when it’s linked to your phone and if you have it on a certain setting when you’re away from your home it’ll adjust to the away mode and that can make the home a little nippy depending on your settings. Something to think about…

  25. Great app, I love the fact that I can adjust the temperature from my phone; however, to make it better would be the ability to change the Wi-Fi password in the application instead of how it is currently. The spinning of the dial and ensuring that you click it just right or you have to start over. It is tedious and frustrating and not very smart for a smart device.

  26. Update: downloading to 1 ⭐. Used to work great. Now the you get a notification in real time but click on it to view and the lag time is insane. Just spinning circles. No more preview of the notification either. It’s become worthless. So the app cameras work pretty well but serious lag time from when I open the app to when I can actually see the live feed. I get an instant alert the doorbell rang. Awesome. Too bad by the time the camera app loads whoever was there was long gone.

  27. K ZK dice:

Love it overall, stable for the most part. I would rather enter my scheduled days/times and temperature manually in a digital format instead of dragging the time and temperature. It’s a bit cumbersome as it is, I don’t like the format of the scheduler at all. Also, I have turned off preheat but it still preheats and I’ve checked all my settings which are set correctly. So I ended up just setting the schedule to a half hour later to turn on.

  28. The free experience is almost worthless for the doorbell. The notification usually shows a good picture of a person walking by, but the timeline screenshot is always too early or too late to see the person. Not sure why they would save a useless picture in the timeline. The thermostat manual schedule is tedious to set/edit for different times of the year.

  29. Awesome app, very simple and easy to use. The only thing that would be nice is to choose how much of a clip to save to my camera roll if I need to pull video. Also would be nice to have the choice of audio on/off when saving clips. Basically, a very simple in-app video editor would be cool. Keep up the awesome work!

  30. Sometimes does what IT wants to do, but overall a pretty good app. Easy to control the thermostat from away. “Mary” turns on music, the tv and the roku devices when asked, sets timers and alarms. Next step is to get the lights tied in to the system…. Just added cameras to the front and back doors. We can see who’s at the door without having to open the door. It’s safer, and I can record any porch pirates.

  31. A Khan dice:

Good app to have remotely control your thermostat at home. Very limited in functionality. 05/18/21 Been using the app for a while and didn’t see any major update on functionality. I would love to see more options to customize the program and how it runs the heat and AC. For example, scheduling the fan to run has very limited options. It would be nice to see more detailed customization like run every other hour or creat a fan schedule based on the daily individual day need.12/23/22 Same as before

  32. Easy to use, quick and responsive makes it a snap to control the thermostat along with all the other features. I just don’t like the “Seasonal Savings” feature where the software begins to operate the air conditioner according to its own calculations even when the settings are for “learning schedule” is off.

  33. It is really good for the most part. Occassionally it goes down for some reason and not due to the wifi. Sometimes it is frozen for a little while when you want to review cam footage. It is really good however because the picture and sound quality are good and has a pretty wide lens. They recently said they upgraded it and it’s actually $2 cheaper however, I preferred how it was before because unless you pay $12 every month for 2 cams service, you only see the video as an “event.”

  34. It’s terrible. The UI is horrendous, and the app is constantly buggy. My temps don’t save correctly, and my settings get changed at random by the app. It’s mid winter, freezing outside and my AC just turned on and won’t let me turn it off because the app freaked out and changed my temperature settings without my consent. Nest will frustrate you AND waste your money running the AC on winter. If I wasn’t renting I would have already ripped the thing off my wall.

  35. Using the app without the paid subscription plans is becoming more and more a problem. It takes more than full minute to open the app from the time a person rings the doorbell now. And I’m starting to see that sometimes the camera won’t take a snapshot of someone rings the bell. If I go to that event, it’s just a blank picture. But if you do have a paid subscription, everything works correctly. 4 stars if you pay for the subscription.

  36. This really needs the ability to talk directly without having to tap on/ off the mic for each statement. Can we get something better than this? A little difficult to get started with integration into existing Google/Nest system. Familiar face learning isn’t the greatest experience. It’s a little clunky to build up face profiles for each person, and still fails to recognize faces even after 80+ faces in a profile on some cases.

  37. Within the past few days, I open the app and its just spinning circles for both of my cameras. It won’t even tell me if someone is on my porch. I can click the camera and the see a live feed, but when I back out, the home page of the app just shows black screens with spinning circles. Dont tell me its my wifi either. Nothings changed and its a strong signal. This is on your end!! Fix it!

  38. The app is pretty easy to use and I love being able to see multiple tempetutes at once but I really wish it leveraged wigets . I want to be able to see or set temp without having to open the app or inform the app I’ll be home soon so it’ll start warming /cooling the house . The learning can be a little frustrating and difficult to override and the temp on the thermostat can be off at times by a few degrees . Overall good not great.

  39. Steven C dice:

Great addition to the house! Helps you control the environment in the house. Very good! Update: I had to upgrade my router and now the app has old info on it. The telephone number to verify isn’t in use anymore. I can’t reset that in the app. Google says to, just go to settings in the app. I can’t find settings anywhere?! I’ve uninstalled the app four times and it continues to retain the same info. Help?

  40. Ariel R dice:

Mostly good (Multi-year, early adopter). The app does what it needs to, with a very basic set of features. It gets 3 stars because all these years later…. you still have to do an additional press to get to the thermostat it self. After first use, it should just open to the last device or thermostat you used….. especially if you just have one device.

  41. When it works, it is awesome. I think the subscription service pricing needs to be dropped considerably since storage costs are dropping so dramatically and the primary network that is uploading the stream is something I am paying for anyway. With regard to functionality, the desktop version is very ‘kludgey’ and it is not easy to go to a specific clip unless you know exactly what time you need to get to.

  42. Tom A dice:

Thermostat app works great for me. So glad there are no ads. Really, REALLY needs active WIDGETS with more notifications options! Also, I would like farsight to have the ability to show the Quick View menu. It provides much more information at one time (weather, day, time, current indoor temperature and humidity) that I feel is more important to be able to see when you walk by.

  43. I like the app ok, the live images are clear. However looking back at motion events it never shows the clip of the incident, kind of weird considering it’s a Google app on an Android (Google) phone. In addition to that communicating to guests through the app does not work. I can shout into the phone and they cannot hear me. However both of these items are non-existent on my wife’s Apple. 🤷

  44. I like the camera quality well enough, but my video feeds cut off from wifi at times (other devices remain connected, so it’s a camera or app issue). The app should have more customizable features like automatic recording times. I have a camera facing toward the street, and cars are flagged as a person instead of just motion or movement, even the big vehicles. I can’t save a clip of desired length, or even at a designated starting point. And clips can only be saved up to 1 minute at a time.

  45. Van B dice:

Horrible app. I’ve had this product for 6 years now and there’s absolutely no improvements. My heater just turned off, then on, and off again. Like a crazy person, confused if it should be following the schedule or the manual adjustment. Then with the camera, a whole minute just gone, you can see someone leaving but not as they come up. Just a terrible product. A low quality company. Google made the wrong bet here.

  46. The app is great for remotely monitoring and adjusting the temperature settings at our vacation house. The problem is that when you’re in the house and the thermostat doesn’t see movement for a while (Perhaps you’re eating dinner, reading a book, etc) it changes the temperature setting to an uncomfortably economical temperature.

  47. Not sure if it’s the app, or the device. I turn on filter notifications today and not only did the app tell me to change the filter , the device did as well. Clearing the filter notifications on one, should clear it on the other. Also, app keeps thinking we’re away when we are absolutely in the house. GPS has to account for swing in accuracy. Additional problems. Filter change reminder doesn’t account for difference in a 1″ vs a 4″ filters.

  48. Worked excellent when I first got it, then after a year I developed issues. I’ll get notifications after the person had left or had already been standing there for a while. Doorbell notification is about 8 seconds late, the talk feature breaks up. I was gonna update to the newer version of doorbells but apparently they lowered their quality in the product.
