This is the most frustrating app! It’ll buffer forever. Meanwhile, all other streaming apps are working fine. Although it shows I’m signed in & linked to my provider, episodes randomly show locked. The worst thing is that it doesn’t speak to separate devices well. I can’t watch on my tablet, close the app, then continue watching on my Roku. It’s so infuriating, because you also can’t quickly fast forward to where you were, thanks to a million ads.
I used to have a recurring problem with this app; it kept sending error messages that I wasn’t connected to wifi. After wasting time checking my provider & connection, I finally had to uninstall & reinstall in order to view any content. Whatever has been done recently to fix the “bugs” in this app has worked for my device. I now am able to view any content including live & on demand programs with 1 click. So problem solved; thanks!
The app essentially is flawless, so I’m nitpicking here but when I cast and stream an episode of a show, when it’s over, and the next episode comes on, within 5 min of that 2nd episode, the connection between my Chromecast and phone is interrupted with a “something went wrong” message and I need to close the app, relaunch it and start said episode over again. It will stream the live TV all day flawlessly, this only happens when I select and stream individual episodes. Other than that I love it!
Keeps freezing however, my biggest issue with the app is there is no volume settings at all. When I turn my phone volume on max volume the sound is max a whisper. If my phone volume was half way turned up you wouldn’t even hear a pin drop. Please look into this as it is very frustrating and the only app to where there is an issue with volume. Even on the screen it only gives an option for close captions ans no volume.
This is a shockingly clunky app, especially from an established company like NBC. It’s prone to freezing and crashing, but wait till you hear what else is going on with this catastrophe of epic proportions, because that’s not even the craziest part! When commercials come up, the screen goes ultra dim and the huge pause button pops into the center of the frame, staying this way for the duration. What this means is that while you still have to sit through the commercials, you basically don’t get to see what’s going on. It makes commercials worse, which is special I guess, but hey– not all special things are good things. The worst part, though, is that the app basically has no memory. This is excruciating. Hitting the back button even once, or switching back and forth between apps, generally brings you all the way home, usually simply finishing an episode through the end credits does this, too. What this amounts to is the following absolute insanity: in order to watch the next episode in a series, you need to open the menu, find the search icon, wait for search to load, type in the name of your show, wait for the search to process, scroll through and select the correct show from the list, wait for that to load, choose the correct season, and finally scroll horizontally in portrait mode two episodes at a time (because the app only rotates once you’re watching) to the episode you want, click it, sit through a dark commercial or two, hope the app doesn’t lock up, and finally you’re watching! You must do this nearly every time, after every episode. Yet it remembers that on the first day I ever used it, I only watched half of an episode of House, and asks me every time the home screen comes up if I want to finish watching that. This is the one thing it reliably remembers. It’s wild. If this wasn’t the literal only way to stream certain programs, you better believe I’d use something else (and I do in every single case where another streaming service has the show I want. They are all superior to this thing).
I’m happy to be able to watch NBC shows from my phone, especially given the clear and smooth video. The ads don’t play smoothly, though, and require constant screen touches every time a new one loads. This makes them much more distracting than the equivalent ads on TV, without foregrounding their message. If not for that, I’d give this app 5 stars.
I love getting to watch my favorite shows on my time! I also love that it allows streaming anytime and doesn’t block old episodes. My one complaint is about the commercials. When you rewind, even if a few seconds too far, it makes you watch the commercials again. Most of those commercials, mind you, repeat a couple times before moving on (I’m sorry I can only hear “Going to the Chapel” so many times).
Hey there NBC! I would like to let you know about a little thing that keeps happening to all of my shows… they keep cutting out… it’s not a data or wifi problem because when I rewind and try to watch the part that it skipped over, it skips in the exact same spot… I don’t know what caused this or how to fix it but I’m asking you guys to figure it out because I really like the shows you have on there and would like to see the episodes without it skipping every minute! thank you!
Don’t pause the app. At least, not for too long. I was watching a show and paused it. When I resumed it, it chopped 10 mins off the show, ending it early. Had to restart the episode and watch another few ads before I could get back to where I was. Other than that, no complaints. It streams crystal clear audio and video, even for a show back from 1978!
Out of all the apps that are installed on my phone, this is the ONLY one that consistently gives me problems. Whether it’s the audio not working or no playback, every time I want to watch a show, I can guarantee that my attempt will be futile. Absolute trash! *edit* I swear it’s ALWAYS sumthin’ with this stupid app. For some reason the closed captions are turned on, and I can’t turn it off!!!!
Download this app if you don’t mind pixely, grainy video that stops to buffer every 15 seconds for 20 seconds at a time. The frequent ads play through without interruption, of course. I love that it never remembers your place after watching an episode. The episodes are listed horizontally in a carousel layout from right to left, making it even harder to find your place. I have to sign in 3 times before it cues up the episode, so that’s fun. A malfunctioning mess.
The app goes down from time to time. When it does, it is can be down for a few minutes to days or even weeks before it gets fixed. This has been an on going problem for years. However, the app typically works for the most part and it is great. It has all my favorite shows from (now) most of my favorite networks. The comercial breaks can be a bit long. Typically during a 1-hour show, there are multiple (about 5 or so) commercial breaks with 3-7 seperate commercials each break.
When watching shows the first few episodes are fine but usually by the 4th episode the show starts skipping about 20 seconds ahead sporadically throughout the episodes. Even when I try to go back it still continues to skip that 20 seconds or so. I keep uninstalling and reinstalling the app but it doesn’t help. Other than this, I really like the app. Please fix this bug!
Freezes up all the time when using with a Chromecast. Starts over so you have to re-watch theany many commercials. If you pause the show and lock your phone, when you try to resume the show it goes back to the beginning. All sorts of problems. Again, this is all when using Chromecast, so maybe it is fine on it’s own. But it definitely seems like it’s designed to make you watch dozens of commercials over and over.
Downloaded this so I could continue The Good Place, season 3 & it works great for that! I don’t mind the ads, since it’s just like commercials on regular NBC TV. The only thing that’s annoying is that when I click the back 10 seconds button, it sometimes makes me re-watch all the commercials, which is frustrating. Otherwise, I have no issues with lagging etc, and I can watch some of my favs!
App seems to work ok, not sure about with other shows, haven’t watched any others yet just downloaded it, but “This Is Us.” keeps skipping spots in the middle of episodes. not sure if it’s a flaw in the app or not but it’s irritating. I have to back out of the app and restart it to get it get it to stop skipping. Also it’s ridiculous all the commercials, one scene of the episode, then 3, 4, 5, as many as 7 commercials completely ridiculous. I’m using the app on an Amazon fire stick.
Absolutely awful performance. Don’t expect to actually watch anything on this app, much less live. I tried to load a TV show for a full 10 minutes before finally giving up. Anytime I tried to load the live TV show, it would skip back to the last 2 minutes of the last TV show, play that clip for about 30 seconds, and then buffer endlessly. I’m a software engineer. This is unacceptable. There are better streaming services out there. This had ONE JOB and it couldn’t handle it.
I love the app. I have 1criticism when it comes to some of your shows. Why do you edit some seconds out of your favorite shows. That makes me want to uninstall the app. For instance, i notice with shows like “the voice,” you edit seconds throughout some of the songs. You really can’t appreciate the contestants voice because you’re distracted by the jump in editing. If you cant stop this NBC, this would be a 5 star app
By far, the worst of the streaming tv apps. It has the usual issues like more commercials than actual content, but then the application itself hardly functions. It doesn’t save progress so you have to manually find where you left off (and not before going through 100 ads). It barely works with casting devices, about 60% of the time, forcing you too restart the whole process sometimes. It’s like they didn’t even test UX, and they want people to pay for a subscription? Peacock is the same.
For the app being free with no cable required this is a pretty good app. Lots of reviews are saying that there are too many ads, but personally I don’t mind the amount of ads. Plus in regular tv you get commercials anyway so the ads aren’t really a problem. The only problem I do have is that parts of episodes in shows are skipped. For example in one show the first 2 episodes were fine but after the middle of the third ep. the skips were VERY frequent and that takes away a big chunk of the plot.
As TV apps go, NBC is pretty well set up and easy to use, although it’s a little glitchy. Sometimes there’s a weird skipping ahead on shows. Sometimes there’s no sound. I find that most of the time, if I close the app and reopen it, that usually resolves the problem. Once in a while, it seems to disconnect from my cable TV provider account, so I have to reconnect it. But I use the app a lot and am generally satisfied.
I used to love this app! I would watch on my phone and my fire stick. I don’t know what’s happened but now all it does is crash, buffer, skip, and give me error messages. I can’t watch anything. I’ve closed the app, restarted, force stopped, cleared data, cleared cache, uninstalled, and reinstalled. Nothing has worked. Terrible, terrible app and so disappointing.
When the app is working I love I can watch anytime. However, I hate the ads start over when there is a problem. Lately there’s been alot of problems. One week I had to keep backing out and reopening the app to watch my show. It would stop every 5 min but I was determined to finish. Finally, I uninstalled and reinstalled and it fixed it. I’m trying to start the new season of Good Girls but it won’t start. I thought maybe it was my kindle so I installed it on my phone. Same issue!
The app constantly freezes. And if it freezes during a commercial, it starts you back and you watch the same ones over and over and over again. After every freeze, the app rewinds you a little bit. So If you only get to a minute after the commercials when it freezes, then you’ll have to watch the same commercials yet again. So far, I’ve spent about 40 minutes to get through 13 minutes of an episode. I don’t want to dedicate 2.5 hours of my time to watch a 40 minute episode.
Half of the time when I start watching a show, the volume doesn’t work (for the show and commercials) so I have to close the app and start over. The app will often freeze and keep playing in the background, even when I go to another app or turn my phone screen off, I can still hear the audio going on and on but the app and video will be unresponsive. There’s sooo many commercials and they’re all repetitive.
On mobile works ok, but Chromecast it doesn’t work. It streams the audio and no video. I have my provider connected. The ads are a lot, but I could totally deal with that if the darn thing would actually cast. I have multiple streaming apps and this is the only one that refuses to work. I’m not sure why it’s an option if a lot of people have issues with casting. What a bummer. Dev team needs better test methodologies.
The streaming is less than stellar. The video either skips or the sound and the video do not match up. I have great service so it is not a matter of a slow connection. The app just is not good. This is not about the shows. The shows themselves are great. The ability to watch those great shows on this app is where this multi-billion dollar company falls short. If only they had a better technology department.
This app is horrible! There are way too many commercials and often it lags and buffers which I haven’t seen an app do since the 90s. Also, these last few days it’s been freezing and dying mid commercial and every time I reopen it, the exact same thing happens! It is so frustrating when you’re trying to enjoy your show. PS – I am signed in with my TV provider!!!
I love that I can now watch every episode of Days of our lives in this app! However, the things that I dislike the most while watching shows/movies more than anything else in the world is commercials and there are 2-7 commercials every 4 mins while trying to watch the show. You can’t fast forward or skip them at all and I hate that but otherwise this is a good app! The picture is great and it’s almost always perfect never splotchy!!!
I have to change my review one year later. Keeps buffering when I have sufficient charge. Sometime crashes, then comes back with no sound. Makes me exit the app to come back in then no sound again! Exit app, to come back in, now I have ads. 40 minute show takes an hour and a half. Unfortunately, I can’t get the Blacklist anywhere else. Sometimes, it gives me an error message saying I’m.not authorized to view the content. Last year, I gave this app a 5 star rating. One year later, it merits half
They need to get it together. Always having audio problems and when skipping through to find your place or to fix an accidental skip, you have to watch all the commercials, everytime. If I just watched a set, I should not have to immediately watch more. The fact that there are even commercials in the first place, sucks! This app is pretty bad in comparison to other streaming apps.
I absolutely love NBC and the shows that they have! This app is ok. I wish there was a way to turn off the adds/commercials. I searched around and couldn’t find anything like that. They do have a lot of commercials, which gets annoying. I’d say about as much commercials if not a little more watching it on TV. Other than that, love it! Love the shows! The Voice, This is Us, etc.
The app is as advertised. It has both old and new shows. The new shows are restricted to the last few episodes with older episodes requiring you to link your app account and your tv provider account. The old shows, like Miami Vice, are completely free (Thanks NBC). The only downside is that the app seems to buffer quite a bit, but that could just be my cell data connection. Otherwise, if you like NBC shows, this is a well done app (imho)!
App will randomly cut out the sound. I can open the app to watch a show on my phone, and I may answer a text or a call, and go back- there’s no sound. App will freeze and glitch, often within a couple of shows. But my personal favorite is the skipping ahead while watching a show. Also…Why do we have to sit through 4-6 commercials when we rewind or restart a show?
this app worked great up until about 2-3 weeks ago. Now ANY show I click starts to load and then I get the “unable to connect” notification. It is just this app. I have all the major network apps and can watch my shows on them with no problems at all. I’ll re install the app again but if I still have these problems, I’m just going to drop it permanently.
I’ve had this app for several years and it has always worked fine never had a problem with or without wifi. It was one of my favorite apps. Lately it’s been a disaster the app is not working at all. Everytime I try to click on a show the app crashes. PLEASE fix this problem The Fall season has started and we have shows to watch.
I’m using a 4kuhd Roku television. The NBC app cuts off the last 3 to 4 minutes of every episode of the blacklist. Have no idea why tells me I’m finished watching the episode. Anyone who’s ever seen the show knows the last 3 to 4 minutes is generally where everything gets tied up and gives you information as to where they’re moving next week in the right directions etc. Can’t even restart it without having to fast forward and go through all the commercials again.
I had given a great review and then the new upgrade came out and so many things are wrong. Skip backs happen unexpectedly, then it skips ahead so you miss like 10 to 15 seconds each time, meaning that you sometimes miss some key comments. the screen goes black and you can only hear the voices, it’s horrible. I’m goon to try to reinstall it and I will be back to comment again.
Not bad, but when watching live video, rotating between the guide and full-screen is ridiculous. Why on earth would the video have to reload like that? I haven’t seen a video player on Android that can’t gracefully transition from portrait view in a window to landscape and full screen without having to reload for about 5 years now. So that really needs work. But it is nice to finally have access to some of the channels that had no Android app for live video like MSNBC. Just fix the rotation. 🤞
I just downloaded the latest update, which was mandatory, and what was working before, has been broken. I can click on a show to watch, and everything just freezes. Uninstalling. When the pop up appeared in the app it said something like ‘ to continue watching your favorite shows, an update is required…’ It’s frustrating that a huge company like NBC seems so incompetent.
