  1. I’m rating it 3 stars because it doesn’t have a Direct Message tab, which the web implements, and the button sensitivity is too strict. If I tap slightly off left or right of the boost button’s pixels, or the like button’s pixels, I end up loading a toot and it wasn’t what was intended. The trigger area of the buttons should be larger, at least horizontally. edit: learned the buttons are being addressed, 4 stars!

  2. I’m liking this app way more than the official Mastodon app (which was rushed out) specifically because it makes it very easy to view the different timelines: people I follow; people in my instance; the federated timeline; and then specific lists I’ve made. It feels a lot like the Twitter app (esp if, in settings, you choose always expand CWs and always show media) The one feature I’d love is to be able to add and edit lists from this app (right now can only do it on the web interface)

  3. A couple little bugs need to be worked out. The delayed timer for posting doesn’t work. It’s a wonderful feature, but I’ve tried it three times and it has failed to work. Also, in the followers column, it doesn’t tell you if you’re following them back like how it does on the website. Another thing, when I post a video from YouTube, the app takes you to YouTube instead of playing the video inside the app. I like the website better for this. Otherwise, it seems okay.

  4. When Tusky was first released, it was a bit of a mess, but it has since become one of the best Mastodon clients for Android. It offers a smooth experience and a focused design that makes browsing timelines and managing multiple accounts a snap. The app doesnt have every feature, but its focus on quality is excellent.

  5. I’ve found it to be a better and more stable alternative to tootdon! I was apprehensive at first because I was so used to the other platform but the quality has been leaps better. Easily can access my own profile and can scroll through pictures without having to click on each individual pic. Would recommend!

  6. I switched from fedilab to tusky for the cleaner interface. It works great. I appreciate tusky’s focus on providing a simple and easy to use app. I also consider it’s spam filter, that blocks hate speech sites and redirects users of them to a rick roll, a feature not a bug. Thanks to the developer for creating such a fantastic open source mastodon client.

  7. Works great and feels responsive and modern. If i were running a Mastodon instance, I’d happily recommend this to friends for its ease of use. I love the multiple accounts support! For some reason, I’m not bothered by the dev choosing to block servers associated with hate speech; maybe I just don’t find the slippery slope fallacy convincing.

Very nice app. I just installed Tusky on my Android phone and I prefer it to the official Mastodon Mobile app. Not fond of the new logo and icon with the Nov. ’22 update. The old one was simple and elegant. This one is too cutsey for my tastes. Is there any plan to do a version for iOS? I like to have consistency between platforms whenever possible.

  9. Likely the best Android app for Mastodon. It’s a very clean easy and attractive design. It has a pretty good range of options and features. And it is truly free: no ads and not even a donate button. It is missing some features. Looking at following of somebody on a different server usually fails. There’s no edit button, only delete and re-draft. Perhaps the biggest for me: there’s no way to see what’s trending.

Tusky works superbly well for one account. For devs: It has a menu option to add another account, but when I added another account from a different instance, it would not allow me to connect to the second, and I lost access to the first account (error message: email and password invalid). Both were accessible through their respective web interfaces, so it seems like a Tusky issue. Reverted to one account only and it worked fine. Thanks to the community!

  11. I like the look and feel, but the app difficult to use in landscape mode on a tablet, since the scrollable area is only in the center of the screen. Please implement a full-fledged landscape mode.

  12. Good so far & have choice. No bugs found by me. Still using both this and official Masterdon alongside mainly because I have two accounts: one on old stable instance and another on small instance that not guarenteed. Not yet settled on which one better both good. Both beat twitter, although need to get used to federated nature if Mastodon network. Would be good if included tools to help import followers from Twitter and search for them. Wish if able change search between posts of followers & all

  13. In general, I really like the interface. But it’s WAY too easy to “sidescroll”, like flipping to my notifications when I’m trying to scroll vertically through my timeline. Extremely aggravating.

  14. Looks great, but missing content. The user interface is well designed and I would consider this preferred on that basis. But the “official” App offers more content on display by default, which as a new user, is preferable. Under Search specifically, the official App provides 5 tabs, already populated with content to browse before entering any search criteria. I find the “For You” tab quite useful.

  15. I just started using version 20.0 and really like this version. It’s smooth, gives me access to all the features I routinely use. The app is really responsive too. Nice work with this release!

  16. I have heard terrific things about Tusky and was looking forward to using it. But I can’t login to my instance. My hunch is the failure may be due to having 2FA enabled for my account. But if that isn’t the problem, then I don’t know what is.

  17. In general I like the app. Content warnings only seem to wrap some of the content, though. Images still show. Mentioned users still show. Other than that, pretty great app

  18. It’s great on the phone. But on tablets the UI basically does not take advantage of the extra screen real estate. It just occupies the central part of the screen. It is also difficult to find out what part of Mastodon API is implemented and what is not compared to the official client.

  19. M dice:

Seems promising, but lacks basic quality assurance. Eg: disabling tab titles makes impossible to access settings menu. Makes one wonder about backstage stuff, like data security, privacy, etc.

  20. Bob Z dice:

Tusky experience (if you try to read from oldest to newest): Scrolling up. Tap “Load more”. Scroll down to find where you stopped before it loaded newest posts and lost scrolling position. Tap “Load more” again, rushing to scroll down so that you don’t lose scrolling progress. “Load more”. “Load more”. Repeat 15 times because it only loads like 10 posts at a time. If you leave the app and come back, there’s a chance it randomly takes you to the top and you lose your scrolling progress again.

  21. Other users have commented that this app doesn’t have a DM tab. I have that same experience on my phone (Galaxy S22). However, on my tablet (Galaxy Tab S4) there IS a DM tab. But no Federated tab! I do actually like the app, I just wish I could use it on my tablet. I don’t mind a missing DM tab, but I a missing Federated tab makes the app unusable for me. I’ll change my rating to 5 stars when it works on my tablet.

  22. Alf W dice:

Great, smooth experience. It sometimes lacks features that are available on the Web interface of the Mastodon instance. For example, instead of an “Edit” functionality it only offers “Delete and redraft”.

  23. I like the design, it’s instantly familiar to those coming from the Twitter app and it allows multiple accounts. However, unless I’m missing something, there doesn’t appear to be a trending or hashtag list, which is present on the official Mastodon app, hence having to mark it down.

  24. Meh. I think I’ll stick with the native Mastodon app as I like some of the different options in it better. I don’t really have a need to schedule posts and to be honest, Tusky notifications are MUCH slower than the native app. One feature that IS important is searching hashtags. Tusky just shows a list of them while the native app shows me how many people are currently using said tag. Uninstalled.

  25. One thing that would be nice is if the collection of @’s at the start of posts could be collapsed into a single line so that large threads dont take up a ton of apace with @’s. Better app than the stock one.

  26. Was happy to find this third party app had more features that I wished the official app had. All I’m waiting for now is in app editing! Then it’ll be perfect. Huge improvement on the official app though.

  27. Ok, found the federated feed so mostly good now. Only problem is posts don’t show likes and reblog counts regardless of the setting (I’m on dark theme, maybe that’s relevant, I didn’t check)

  28. Love Mastodon, love the Tusky app. I tried a different app before but prefer Tusky. Love to see that it has the support to be continously improved. There are no ads on Mastodon if you’re wondering.

  29. Love the app, but please add support to translate posts. DeepL / Libretranslate are installed on some of the servers I visit, but they are ony usable in the web version of my mastodon account, not in the app.

  30. I find this app is better than the Mastodon app, if only for the local instance and fediverse tabs. Adding users is easier as well

  31. A great app. Everything works as expected. It looks modern and is fast loading.

  32. Should start by giving a big props to the app developers. This app is open source and developed by volunteers, so thank you! Better interface and more usable than the native app. Could do with an easy way to add a followed account to a list, or any kind of list management actually. Also wonder whether 5 tabs/columns will start to feel a bit limiting?

  33. This is a great tool for Mastodon. I recommend it, especially to any of the new people migrating from the bird site.

  34. iod dice:

An excellent Mastodon client. Runs smoothly even on low-mid hardware. 4 stars because afaik sign up aren’t supported in app yet.

  35. Good app, does lots of things right. A bit slow in development but always on par with the official app and features. Also the design is intuitive and it looks beautiful.

  36. Fast, does basically everything you’d want, but UI is a little ugly compared to the regular web version. Not a deal breaker. Better performance than using a web app or fedilab.

  37. Rating the app 3 and a half stars cuz there are a few problems I had. There is no edit button for posts on the app (like on the web version). I wish when you reply to someone you can see their message from above. I wish you can make threads for posts. had problems trying to upload gifs too since I don’t know what the size limit is for those, it wont let me post them.

  38. Can’t log in. I am using the correct email and password and have checked multiple times. I can log in at the website, but not this app

  39. I’m so glad you folks actually added the follow hashtags feature, the only other thing I would suggest out of this app would be to edit your own posts without having to draft and delete anything

  40. Finally managed to set up an account from scratch but to switch to another account in the app I need to (naturally) need to also login with that account. But, despite updating passwords more than once, the app says “invalid password or email address”. Any help here?
