Worse experience thus far. There are features which I would like to add, but the latest upgrade isn’t even understandable. I have the timer set so they come on and off. Right now, I can’t find that functionality. I set the color of bulbs individually, the latest install doesn’t display 15 bulbs so they can be controlled individually. If I could give it a negative rating I would. My degree is in software, but these latest changes are void of a good user experience. I’d like to back it out.

  2. Currently, it’s undergone a holiday themed ui change. It is horrible. You can’t tell what button does what, and the home screen of the app doesn’t seem to refresh any thermometers information that you have half the time, making it frustrating. It takes forever to load up any info, which used to be faster. Overall, nigh unusable now, and wasn’t even good beforehand.

  3. One of the worst user experiences I’ve ever dealt with. They themed it for the holiday. The buttons make no sense what they are used for. Because of the terrible theming I can’t figure out where the hell the add option is making it completely unusable. Returning the devices because part of the feature set I expected was wifi and remote control.

  4. Works well enough but could use an upgrade Thermometer: Just trying to see if the temperature is rising or falling takes for ever. Data sometimes doesn’t load, close the app and start again. Fan: It would be nice to have different temperature ranges for different times of day (scheduling.) And oscillate on/off to be done on a schedule as well.

  5. I use this mostly for the temperature/hygrometer modules and it does a pretty good job at showing the current values as well as history. Two issues stop me from giving a better rating: Cannot export data to a CSV or other file format (without an account which I absolutely will not do) and Ads. Why are there ads in an app for a product I purchased? There aren’t a lot – but there should be zero. Downgraded to 2 stars. Increasing frequency of ads is frustrating. Also the new “holiday” theme is bad

  6. Wifi lights are hit and miss if they are going to connect or not when I want to use them. So I’ve been buying all the bluetooth ones and they just work with the app no problems 99% of time. However after the last update I do not like the new home and group layout and it now takes longer to control my groups.

  7. With the latest update not only does the app no longer function but the interface is terrible! 50% of the time it shows that devices are disconnected but they are not. When pressing on or off device still works. However if it shows devices as disconnected you cannot turn them on/off as a group.

  8. The lights work great, but the will not connect via Bluetooth to the app. If it does connect, while it’s rare, I have to have my phone right up against the receiver. It will connect probably 1/20 times trying to connect. That is ridiculous, it should not be that bad. I’m quite disappointed as I spent a large amount of money on these lights to decorate the house. The app, from what I noticed, seems to have great potential, just horrible connection with the lights.

  9. Mostly great! And let’s be honest, that’s the best anything gets these days. There was a strange bug that I reported (specific to the settings of one device), they replied that it would be fixed in the next update. It actually took 3 updates, but they did figure it out and get it fixed! Aside from that, the app is great and easy to use. I wish there were more widget options (rather than just turning something off/on, maybe also have high/med/low/custom settings), but no complaints otherwise!

  10. Tom Ruopp dice:

Pretty great app overall, but 2 issues for me. 1 is that I can’t get it to sync data in the background. I have to open the app and manually refresh the sync. Gets annoying. The other minor issue is the shake of the y axis on my thermometer graphs. It only auto scales. I would love to be able to keep the axes at fixed values of my choice to better see trends over time

  11. Poor color reproduction, saturation adjustments are almost non-existent. It would be nice to be able to tone down overly vivid colors to match the colors on the screen. Needs support for mounting T2 camera below TV (H605C). Otherwise it is very responsive. I would hope majority of these issues can be addressed with software/firmware updates.

  12. It remembers all the setting from in the app but won’t let me use it after like a week. The light will still come on with the saved color but claims it’s not connected anymore and I need to reconnect. Ya after about 20 times resetting it I’m just done with it. Never used to happen and now won’t stop. Fix your app/product and maybe I’d come back. Doubtful at this point. Can’t even talk to someone about it without having an order number and stuff too. I bought it like a year and a half ago

  13. Always on location when using the app. It’s kind of a bit much (for me at least) to allow this app and it’s developers access to my location in exchange for being able to change the colors of the lights I paid for. I’m also returning all of the Govee lights I recently purchased because without this app you do not get the full functionality of their lights. However, if you don’t mind sharing that information with Govee then I will add that the app has no 3rd party ads and is simple to operate.

  14. Easy to use app and for the most part it responds easily with my lights and hygrometer thermometer from Govee. It makes life a bit easier with the schedule for the lights to turn on and off. And the alerts with my thermometer if the temperature goes below or above what I have set. Overall it works and I look forward to seeing what Govee adds in the future.

  15. Bought it to receive alerts for baby’s room temp (H5072). The app can receive data with Bluetooth, but i sometimes have to turn on location, too. Both my app and phone settings allow notifications, but even when data shows the temp way above my specified range for notifications, I get nothing. I have just resorted to checking it before I go to bed. The device works fine. The app leaves something to be desired.

  16. Tom N dice:

Graph is sparse and only shows for the time you refresh it and does not match the thermometer/hygrometer. Refresh process is manual and slow. To get a a fairly accurate graph you would need to refresh all the time. Bluetooth is just ok but slow. What’s the point of having this app when I can just get up and go look at the device. Also, no real settings other than setting notification parameters and Temp F/C. UPDATE 11/24: DOES NOT UPDATE. WASTE OF MONEY LIKE EVERYTHING FROM CHINA!

  17. This app was decent, and the products are amazing, but whatever you guys did in this new update ruined it. I literally can’t interact with anything. I have to constantly delete and re-download the app and re login any time i want to turn on or off a light… not to mention the constant pop-up saying i need to turn on accessibility even though it’s turned on… like seriously this update is making me genuinely hate the govee brand when I was previously a diehard fan.

  18. I’ve been generally happy with my lights. However, I can’t adjust them if the internet is out. My phone and lights are still all connected to my wifi router during an outage. There’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to make changes on a local network instead of running through Govee’s servers. My opinion of the product will go back to 5 stars once this feature improvement is made.

  19. Ive had the app for well over a year and a half now and i must say it keeps getting better and better. Their lights are amazing and with the creativity the app allows you to have with them it makes them even better. Overall great products and great app. If the lights dont support wifi then be patient when using the bluetooth connection.

  20. I got a bulb and the app a year ago and had no issues till recently. The light bulb works fine only if you can get the app to ever operate. The app opens then freezes my whole phone, I’ve cleared cache/memory and reconnected my device, I’ve even reinstalled and it still doesn’t work. What’s the point of the bulb if I can’t control it from the app??

  21. Worked great up until very recently. One of my TV light strips (H6159) stopped connecting to the WiFi. I reset it (hold power + middle button four times), and I can connect to it through the Govee app via Bluetooth, but every time I try to set up the WiFi again with it, it fails to connect. Maybe a hardware failure?

  22. The app isnt user friendly. It was difficult to add the app to multiple devices and connect. Then it won’t respond to Alexa and that was another complicated connection when other devices were simple to connect with Alexa. The app won’t let me add a widget to my home screen on my phone. It is also very hard to navigate. Very disappointed in the app. The app developers should be fired and new ones brought in to make it right. Also, demanding location permission is creepy and unnecessary.

  23. Update: Randomly stopped working efficiently… This first part could be more of the light strip itself (H6159), but recently randomly started losing Wi-Fi connection despite being on the same mesh network for 2 years with no new devices added anytime recently. I have a healthy blend of Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, and Zigbee devices. After last app update, Bluetooth now refuses to connect despite being previously paired up. Deleted/unpaired and now can’t reconnect via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Please advise.

  24. Coming from hue I’ll give it a solid 3 out of 5. For me I can’t use groups. More specifically same model groups. One will connect the other won’t. Reset it re add it then the problem just moves to the other light instead. I’ve done this 4 times, it’ll work for the first time you set it up but when you leave and come back to it some time later it refuses to connect both lights to Bluetooth. Need a way to slow down scenes, 99% of them are just way to fast. But connections need to be fixed!

  25. Beast dice:

I use this for an LED strip behind my TV. App is formatted terribly. Tons of wasted space, useless buttons, a snapshot icon that floats on my screen that does nothing useful, too many steps in the way of just changing the colors. I think they intended for a ton of optimization but it’s at the cost of simple function. If you’re looking to buy LED strips for a similar use case I’d recommend a different seller that uses a cleaner app. Hopefully they clean this one up.

  26. Overall it’s a good app to control and customize your leds, but what I find frustrating is even on Wi-Fi you have to always connect to the LEDs and you can’t get multiple LEDs to talk to each other even in groups so if you’re trying to do lights that go in a specific Way they will stop at the end. I guess you have to splice them together to get them to go in line with each other which I find pretty annoying

  27. Too much of this is reliant on servers. As a prime example: if I want to set a timer, on my BLUETOOTH CAPABLE LED strips, in order to just set the time they go off apparently it needs to phone home to the server??? So when the servers are down you get a “please try again later.” Gotta be kidding me. Can we at least have an over-ride for some of this for when the servers are down? I get it wouldn’t be as capable of all the fun features, but just a few like timers and on/off?

  28. Paul P dice:

Used to be great. I have power outlets and wifi thermometers. Now I can’t access because it insists on knowing my precise location. And it still will not work when I grant permission “only when I use the app” it just keeps asking for permission…. It won’t open. Just insists on access. Not happy! Don’t know why it needs my location in the first place.

  29. Ad at the top of the app’s main screen when load with no means of preventing future display after dismissal just ruins the app experience. It’s one thing to have a store, but a banner ad annoying users when all they want to do is check their humidity is a user experience failure. The Home Assistant app provides access to the sensor and is open source which means I can choose my experience. I bet this app product lead is salea and not a UX professional who knows to put users first.

  30. Grouping lights loses functionality. When grouping lights for scenes you are no longer allowed the advertised wifi+Bluetooth on their actual govee page for the H6008 lights. With this, you also lose music sync as well. This product is no where near as advertised. The to head over to Phillips Hue as much as I did not want to… Govee had me excited but they completely miss the mark with grouping as you can’t even maintain the same features across lights in one dang screen that’s the exact same.

  31. This rating is for the app, not the lights. For the most part, the app works as expected. However, I’ve run into a bug that is really annoying. If the device can’t find the wireless network, it will go into a cycle where it will have you “confirm” that you are using an old version of the app (choosing to cancel will dismiss the dialog without being able to interact with anything) – after you confirm, it will take you to play store, where you can’t update the up-to-date app. Needs an override.

  32. Since the last update, some scenes and DIYs effects would force close the app then reopens it again, without changing the effect to the one that i chose. You guys need to redesign your app and streamline it. It is getting cluttered and out of control. Make it easier to navigate the app. It feels like the app was made 10 years ago.

  33. Day 0 bug still unfixed. If you click the app to view readings, it doesn’t update the graph or information after it finishes loading. You have to exit the app and re open it, and download the data a second time, the close and reopen the readings, and it will finally update. Pretty sad that it reveals none of the programmers or coders have literally ever used the app themselves. Fix the bug you clowns.

  34. Aiden Ray dice:

I like the app, it’s very quick and functional. The only thing I hope for in the future is that maybe the built-in modes like for emotion, weather, lightning etc that you could lower the speed setting on them. I know that you can do that by creating your own DY for them but the built-in modes are excellent. I just wish that I could change the speed on them because they’re already preset. That way you don’t have to recreate the exact same one and save it.

  35. It is really nice to have this app to control some of the functionality of the light strips. I am someone who is bad at losing remotes and the small remote is often hard for me to find. So this app is great to be able to adjust the lighting colors and brightness, timer and some “themes”. I think there is more you can do with it using the remote, or I just don’t know exactly how to use everything, but it’s a good app for easy to understand, simple controls.

  36. Nice lights. But can’t get the light strips to connect to Bluetooth or my android. The app worked for 1 day on iPhone. Now it feels like the 80’s again walking over to the TV to turn on the light strip. Ha. Look’s like I’m out of$50, because I just don’t want to take this huge TV off the wall 2 more times. I’ll stick with my 9 cool color’s on the relay switch button.

  37. Notifications do not work. If you use the temperature and humidity monitors the alerts don’t work. The device does not sync automatically and instead requires you to manually open the app and manually sync, which completely defeats the purpose. The device itself seems fairly accurate, but the app is useless for anything other than looking at history. If you care about alerts for low and high values this app will let you down consistently.

  38. This app is wonderful. So many preset themes and colors. I absolutely love it. I out them on my Christmas tree and it really glows! You can even set the strip to any color by segment and change the pattern. The only thing that would make this better, is if you could cycle through different themes at one time. Like pick 4 themes and it loops through those. Other than that these lights are a must!!!

  39. The thermometer/hydrometer works well. I have one in both my snake enclosures, as well as one in my bearded dragon enclosure, and on the chinchilla cage. For the last few months, though, I haven’t been able to get the app to update the devices. Occasionally it will update on the device home page, but the graph pages haven’t updated since June. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app; No change. This seems to be a very common problem.

  40. Pretty good device and app, pretty good support! I bought a Govee wifi temp and humidity device to use with this app. The app made it pretty easy to set up the device, and it works pretty well! One annoying thing is that it won’t let me set the lower temp limit to 70°F. It’ll take 69, or 71, but not 70, which is what I want. Submitted a ticket through the app, and got an intelligent response fairly quickly, but it’s still not fixed as of 3/31/20, contrary to their reply below.
