  1. Had a good run. This was one of those apps that always seemed to be teetering on breaking, but somehow kept on plugging along. I was fearful of updates because from what I was seeing it often broke more than it fixed. For nearly two years, I have only had minimum issues. Well it appears the update from three days ago has broken my Android Auto. Nonstop freezing up since that update. Hopefully, there is a fix in the works.

  2. It’s pretty cool. Speech to text is very good. Sometimes texts don’t go through or are received. WAZE works perfectly. Phone integration is very good, but it depends on the model phone. I would like the ability to add additional apps for the display. For example, MyRadar when driving in dangerous storm conditions is a must have. Getting better with each update for sure.

  3. I use the app while driving for Google Maps and to listen to podcasts and audiobooks. I’ve found that if I’m using the phone, then the Google app no longer speaks outloud. This has caused me to miss a couple of turns. If there is any way you could make it so that the voice softly continues to give directions, even while I’m in the phone, it would greatly improve the app and the overall experience.

  4. It has issues and is completely unsupported. The email address to contact the developer goes to a “No-Reply” email address and I submitted a request on their forum 2 months ago and no one has responded. The app mutes all notifications when plugged in, or over Bluetooth. If I use the map without plugging the phone in, I have no voice guidance. For texts, my phone vibrates, but no tones, so I don’t know who the text is from. For the first time in my life, I”m considering an iPhone.

  5. I love the idea and the functionality of Google maps, but I think that they need to redesign the layout to make it easier to get back to the home screen of the car.I also think they need to make some of the icons bigger and easier to interact with. I understand that this isn’t really a part of the android auto program, but I wish my phone wouldn’t always charge when I have it plugged in.Apart from everything I just mentioned, this is a pretty solid program and I 100% recommend this for everyone.

  6. The app has multiple bugs and issues. 1. Google maps doesn’t function properly. When you ask Google assist for directions, it is unable to search properly 2. There is no real way to add active apps to the screen (pandora, Spotify, etc.) 3. The ability to switch phones (once connected is extremely cumbersome and frustrating. Overall, the app is a cool concept, but is still very far perfect.

  7. To preface this, the Bluetooth connection between my phone and the car engages in moments of the car being turned on, has consistent sound quality, and actually stays connected the entire time it’s in use. Android Auto has a delay every time it is used to connect with my car, sometimes in excess of a minute, it will have random volume fluctuations completely independent of the volume settings on the phone or the car, and it will randomly drop connection and be slow to reconnect. Can’t recommend.

  8. It’s ok, a big improvement would be to continue to allow inputs from phone rather than total reliance on the vehicle screen. Too many “safety” restrictions there. Stuff you just can’t do while in motion that needs be done, such as changing a destination. There is no accounting for the fact a passenger may be aboard to complete such items; or that it would be much safer to enter the changes on the phone than unplug the phone, make the changes, then plug it back in and restart Android auto

  9. Not sure of its my car or my phone but it takes a while for the phone to sync. Sometimes it doesn’t and I have to unplug the phone and plug it back in. Sometimes it automatically takes over the audio, even if I had it on radio the last time I drove. I also don’t like that sometimes I can use Waze as my map app and then suddenly they’ll just take that away. It’s nice to be able to use my device this way but they sure have some kinks to work out.

  10. App is pretty good especially the wireless feature, very convenient. The only thing I would improve is that I would like to have a way of setting the volume lower apart from the radio’s volume, especially when using Waze or maps when I get a voice notification if I’m listening to loud music the voice notification comes in really loud too. The volume is tied to the radio’s volume. Maybe there’s a way but I can’t find it.

  11. Kathy Lee dice:

I can’t get Android Auto to open since I’ve upgraded to s22 Ultra. Previously everything was working great. Since buying my new phone and I am only able to connect wirelessly. When I plug cable in to access maps, the car does not recognize that my phone is connected. I tried to reconnect my phone but it didn’t seem to recognize that my phone is connected via cable. AndroidAuto doesn’t seem to open. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled with no success. HELP!

  12. Used to work great. With the exception of not having the ability to input from phone while connected. But now it doesn’t work at all. It connects, disconnects, reconnects and so on like 50 times in a couple mins. I thought at first my cord was broken, but bought a new cord and still doing it. And as of today won’t connect to my phone at all. Not sure what happened but completely worthless now.

  13. W B dice:

Garbage. What a cluster. I plug it in, I have no apps open, if I turn the knob on the stereo volume, it will start playing audible, I can’t skip tracks from the steering wheel. If I choose to listen to Spotify and don’t turn volume up from steering wheel it will play audible again after I’ve closed it all out, then some days it will open other apps just because. And it’s not my car bc as soon as I unplug from android auto, every thing works the way it should! I’m just gonna delete this app.

  14. Update.. I just got a new phone that has android auto built it and won’t let me have the icon so I can open the app to control it. My car often has problems and I need to restart the app. Just disconnecting the phone from the car doesn’t help. I want more control of the app and it’s contents. …Better than before but still needs work. I love that I have better access to the music but I miss not having my calendar available.

  15. When it works, it is fantastic. However, it most often does not work. Most times the car doesn’t acknowledge that my phone is connected. I tell the USB connection to transfer data / Android Auto to the car. This works about 30 percent of the time. Even after connected and running, it will freeze or screen go black or car tells me no Android device is connected. I play music through Android Auto from my phone to give me a warning when Android Auto stops working. Music stops before screen.

  16. Recently got a new phone, transferred all my apps and settings from my old phone. This app no longer works. Tried following all the recommended trouble shooting methods, uninstalled app and reinstalled it. Tried new USB cables. Tried old USB cables. Nothing. It doesn’t even recognize that there is a device plugged in. I spend a lot of time driving, so the ability to see my maps on my dash screen, to integrate my media players, and to use hands free is paramount.

  17. I want the maps to be full screen. And it’s too cumbersome to switch from AA audio to phone audio. Now the audio stays playing on my phone after I turn off the car and the only way to stop it is to turn off /restart the phone. Update Now as of July 16th, there must have been another update because the map is blurry and won’t come into focus in satellite mode. It’s been working up until now. The interface also lags about 4 times as long as it used to take. 2022 f250 lariat with sync 4

  18. When it does work it is pretty good, interactive map, voice control, calls and even app calling. Downside is that when it decides not to connect, (S22+ with a 2022 Honda Civic) it stays down for days, usually when I need it the most. Has become more and more unreliable with non-existant troubleshooting. Very new car, very new device and being told they are not compatable. Have exhausted my options and am in a data loop of troubleshooting.

  19. Ynot Kaf dice:

Integration is good, however, there is a strange error where, even if USB connected, the WiFi signal gets interrupted, between the phone, Pixel 6 pro, and car, multiple rental cars, that didn’t happen with my much slower Galaxy A20. To reconnect, I simply need to manually reselect my phone from the Android Auto interface, but this can happen as often as every few minutes, or not at all on a 3 hour trip.

  20. Great for casual trips, still missing some features on standard maps application. All in all still a great choice for integrated media/streaming in your vehicle. Edit: roughly 2 years later & the app hasn’t really been updated aside from general bug fixes. Would like to have more of the Maps application features integrated. Mostly being able to report/confirm Speed Traps, road closure, accidents, etc.

  21. Great when it works but has some real glitchiness. On a 3-hour drive down a busy route today, AA kept exiting the navigation screen and going back to search, and the destination that I was en route navigating to would never show up in the top two “suggested” listings, so I always had to go back, poke around, find it on the big destination list again… ~20 times. Super inefficient, frustrating, and dangerous, versus my almost never problematic experience navigating via Google apps on my phone.

  22. Just not very useful if it only works 30% of the time…. Always a struggle to decide whether to update or not- keep the bugs I know about or get new bugs that are potentially a whole lot worse. Stop adding “new features” and actually fix the broken stuff. When it works it’s maybe a 3/5- still get lots of bugs that exit navigation or disconnect my phone while I’m in the middle of the highway trying to find my exit.

  23. Tim B dice:

It’s nice to have access to my apps on the cars screen (especially the mapping app), but the fact it always restarts my audiobook constantly is maddening! Everytime I start my car, it starts my audio book regardless of I plug into the USB ou not. It also plays the book in the background occasionally when I am not aware and I completely lose my place in my book. I can’t find a setting to turn off autoplay.

  24. Pierre C dice:

Recently android auto has developed a major bug which has put me in multiple difficult situations while driving. After using the voice command to tell android auto to navigate somewhere, Google assistant responds that I am being navigated to that destination, except it does not actually “take” or happen in the Google maps app. This has resulted in me starting to drive without any idea of where I am going. The only way to input a destination is to pull over and type the address.

  25. It was pretty great I would have given it four and a half Stars before. But since they’ve changed it so that it won’t work stand alone on your phone I would give it lower than one star if I could! I have two vehicles that I’m not going to change the radios in just to be able to use Android auto in those vehicles and I drive those vehicles all the time. And now I can’t use Android auto. The Google app doesn’t work worth a damn by comparison to Android auto RIP…

  26. About six months ago the layout of the map screen with navigating was much different. Instead of the big search box in upper left, the search function and destination appeared horizontally along the bottom of the screen. Please bring that back. It makes it easier to see the map and the road ahead of you.

  27. I actually have both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. They are very similar and make hands free driving a reality. Do wish Android Auto had he same split screen map and media playing screen like available on CarPlay. But it’s a very minor wish. Wireless connectivity is a little finicky. But I have he similar issue with CarPlay. Both tolerable. Even though Android Auto isn’t perfect. It’s difficult to drive without it. Once you grow accustomed to it!

  28. Worked great for months and now it will not connect no matter what I try. Super frustrating as someone who has to drive distances and needs Google maps to work. Every time I tap the map or open Maps on my phone the whole Android Auto setting in my car crashes. All my tech is currently updated and I’m just baffled as to how I’m supposed to fix this.

  29. I loved the idea but Android Auto is not reliable and is very limited in function. Using AA results in giving up on 95% of what Google Maps can do. I wish the regular Google Maps interface would be displayed on the car head unit instead. If Google is worried about drivers being distracted, then allow voice control of the app — simple things like “there’s an object in the road” do not work with Android Auto. Why would I opt to use a limited app? Tested another 2 months and now uninstalling.

  30. Won’t connect! It just gives me a black screen (and it’s not my vehicle that is the problem because other phones work with it). There is some mis-step between the new android update & android auto. Android auto desperately needs an update to fix these bugs! I’ve tried everything from un/reinstalling to clear cache & data. Nothing seems to remedy this!

  31. For the last week, my phone would connect for a few seconds, then go to a blank black screen! I thought it was something wrong with my radio. However, the radio will play regular stations, but as soon as I connect my phone it starts acting up! I was hoping with this latest update it would correct it, however I was wrong! It’s still doing the exact same thing! Please fix this! I drive a Chevy ’21 Blazer.

  32. It is better than Carplay in many ways but struggles in others. I still can’t stand the scroll interface pausing every few items as a reminder to keep our eyes on the road. Let us scroll faster so we can get to the bottom of a playlist or song list. However, recent updates have resolved constant crashing so back to 4 stars.

  33. Has it’s moments. Sometimes it works flawless and others glitchy beyond uselessness. Latest issue is with lost wireless connectivity, well for me, 2x now I’ve had to reset my system just to get it to work again. The user interface could use a refresh too, they keep teasing “coolwalk” but it never comes to fruition. Have been Android Auto user now going on 7 years and this my updated reviews.

  34. Great. When it works. Pixel 6 latest phone should be flawless. I have heard of rumors of an in app option to test the cable. There needs to be more troubleshooting in the app if it’s not going to be bulletproof especially with the newest Google phone and the cable that came with it.

  35. I paid $500 to have Android auto installed in my car (2016 Madza CX-5) and it worked great for a year with my pixel. When I upgraded to a pixel 6, my phone will not connect. I’ve tried all of the suggestions to get it to connect, but Android 12 and Android Auto do not communicate. My husband’s Android 10 works fine, but it’s frustrating to have a service I can’t use.

  36. Tom Young dice:

I’ve been using it in a rental car and is supper finicky. Only works when plugged in via USB cable and will occasionally drop. Got repetitive to the point I just used the Bluetooth connection. If this was able to be used wirelessly and drop less, may be worth it to download again.

  37. Wish it would work, when it does it’s great. Unfortunately all it does lately is disconnect randomly, then attempt to connect repeatedly until I unplug my phone and plug it back in. I thought it was the cable and replaced it…no luck. My friend’s Apple has no problem…looks like it’s about time to give up on Android.

  38. I’ve taken a star. Disappointed and frustrated. It work great before last update Sept 4, version 5.6.603444. Phone worked great for txt hands free. Now it won’t reply to thread, the went to wrong number. Drops connection to music and couldn’t control which playlist to use. Maps are accurate but no longer points in direction your heading instead uses compass points so shows on map upside down so when turning its opposite direction unless navigate window is open. PIP takes up too much of map

  39. I honestly hate this app. I drive a Subaru Crosstrek and this app takes forever to pickup and stays connected for about 5 minutes and then disconnects. The dealer said it was the app and not the ports in my car. I have bought several different cables Nothing makes a difference. It is the most annoying app I have ever used. It has been worse the last two months. I hope you can fix this app as I rely heavily on this.

  40. App works really well either over Bluetooth connectivity or wired connection. Easy to use interface. Used with 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid…don’t even realize that the interface runs separately from auto interface. I am sure there are more features I haven’t even explored yet. Hope app only gets better!

  41. Great when it doesn’t crash. But it freezes and crashes often. Android is way better with way more options than apple, but if it doesn’t work, it is useless. My reply to the comment: I provided bug and crash reports to Google. They said the developers will fix it at some point. So, with Google’s operating system, on Google’s phone (Pixel 2, then 5, then 7), trying many different cords, it still crashes and has to be reset a couple times an hour.

  42. Ste Phen dice:

When it works it works well but that’s only half the time. I have to try up to 4 times to get it to connect. Sick of the “oops something has gone wrong” message when trying to connect. Since an update was installed this issue has been rectified. If the developers could fix the issue of voice commands to drive to a nominated address bringing up several destination options, some totally wrong, the app would be 5 star worthy.

  43. Totally unreliable. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. You never know if it’s going to work when you plug your phone in. The behavior is also totally inconsistent some days it recognizes commands and some days it doesn’t. Some days it runs and some days it just refuses to run. Sometimes it plays through the Bluetooth speakers and sometimes it doesn’t. Please fix the bugs in this app it is totally unreliable. Once again you refuses to start. I wish there was an alternative to this app.

  44. Ali Hendi dice:

The app opens multiple instances of Google maps in the background, causing overheating of the phone processor and battery, shortening battery life, and slowing of the system, the app, and the phone in general. The issue has be going for almost a year. No body want to address it. By the way my phone is Google pixel which should be the ideal environment for Android system and apps.

  45. 1/20/23: app is not connecting thru to head unit 100% of the time. Seems like 40% of the time I get a blank screen. I’ll try a reinstall and updates and go from there. Per 6/2022: Manual cable connectivity is good. Connecting to Subaru Starlink is good. Con: Google maps has display priority – this is annoying for short drives when I don’t need/want to view the map! I wish this could be turned off.

  46. Since the update a month ago, Android Auto doesn’t allow the assistant to work through voice. You say “Hey Google” the screen goes black for a half second and cancels the “listening” aspect of the assistant, so you can’t use it without pushing the buttons on the steering wheel. It’s not the assistant that’s broken, I use it without the car and it works fine. The moment I connect with the car, it stops responding to the voice wake up function.

  47. It functioned reasonably well on my old Samsung phone (glitchy but usable), but it does not work at all on my Pixel 6a. The car says to check my connection. I’ve tried several cables, changed battery settings as advised online, and reinstalled the app. Each multiple times. Nothing has helped. [Update] No. 5 in the recommend fix worked – sort of. Changing the setting worked, but I have to do it every time I plug the phone into my car. And now Bluetooth only works after plugging in and resetting.

  48. Lu R dice:

Just one annoying issue… Driving directions (navigation) voice can’t be heard while listening to the radio or music. When listening to the radio/music at a normal audible volume level, loudness of the navigation voice is way lower than the loudness level of music/radio. I’ve checked & played with the radio settings with no luck. It’s just annoying to constantly look at the map while I’m driving to be able to navigate and follow routes. Not sure if this is an android app issue or my head unit.

  49. The phone Android Auto experience is clunky at best. Navigation in portrait mode is relatively easy but the auto-startup is a bit jarring and laggy. However, my biggest gripe is landscape mode. I mount my phone in landscape mode for maps/navigation for 95% of my drives. Losing the media controls and Android Auto menu is really disappointing as it can make the app unsafe to use in landscape. It’s clunky to have to leave the Android Auto app to change what I’m listening to on Spotify.

  50. The app is good overall but the thing that I hate about it is it ALWAYS automatically starts playing music as soon as it connects to my vehicle. I’ve adjusted in-app settings to prevent external devices from starting music, but Android Auto doesn’t care. It just plays audio from whatever app I last used, even if I was not recently listening to or using that app. This is extremely annoying. I’d like Android Auto to not automatically start playing audio apps on connection. Until then, 2 stars.

  51. For the most part, I really like the app. However, a couple issues… 1) the app really sucks battery power and causes my phone to get hot. 2) every once in a while, when I answer the phone on my truck’s screen, it will not run the sound through my truck’s speakers, but through the phone.

  52. It’s got some good stuff going on. I was pessimistic about it a few years ago. Now I’m optimistic. The new features, not yet rolled out to my phone/car, seem exciting. The audio is really good. The Amazon music app functionality is up to them. But Amazon sends high rez music to my Tahoe. The AA interface could screw it up. It reliably let’s the music play while showing me where to go. It’ll get 5*s when the new interface shows up and wows me.

  53. I enjoy the fact that I can listen to the music I want most and not the over the air radio stations that do not play my kind anymore. The fact that my maps shows up in satellite view over the default map. The only fall back I have with the app and syncing is after a while a perfectly good (or new) USB connection wire all of the sudden will not sync to the or a vehicle due to “The USB you are using does not allow usage to the vehicle.” Comes up and I have to use another new coed for a while.

  54. In 2018 I gave Android Auto a positive review but unfortunately it’s gotten much worse. Now when I use it I’m constantly frustrated by it. Everytime I get a text message the first 5+ seconds of the message are cut off and I have to ask it to repeat the message. Every. Time. Then when I try to reply it always mistakes “send it” for “change it” somehow so I’m forced to take my eyes off the road to press “send”. The maps and audio streaming are great, but texting is an awful experience.

  55. Used to love this app, I practically live in my car due to my type of work. I need this almost daily. Now, it glitches and diaconnects randomly and then displays an error. Then when you try to reset it, it takes forever to disconnect so you can reconnect. Even had to uninstall the app and reinstall cause it crashed, showed a black screen, and wouldn’t allow voice commands. Never had these issues with the old version. Also, can you please replace the function where the media is on the bottom?

  56. My Android Auto has always worked good on my 2021 Honda Accord. Not sure if it’s the new update or not but now I cannot use the hands free voice button on maps navigate to screen anymore while driving. I’ve also noticed that since the update I get map disconnected from my car. I have also noted that with Android auto is checked my media and own do not show up as being used. In fact it says no device connected

  57. This used to be the best GPS app. I’m not sure what’s happening but Google has literally ruined this app with every update. There’s so many bugs now I don’t know where to begin. I recently went back to apple carplay because Android Auto is constantly failing me. I hate this for Google but I can’t defend it anymore. Simply put it’s TERRIBLE! From 4 stars to 1 what a shame. Update: The new version is excellent. Only bad thing is you can’t use Waze with the split screen option. Up to 4 stars now.

  58. LOVE IT! Been using my phone with my car’s original CD player style radio for years. Finally switched to a touchscreen radio and I feel like I’ve been a dinosaur all this time! Way better than looking at the map on my itty bitty phone! Although, getting Waze to give the feature of looking at directions ahead of time would make it perfect! All in all it’s awesome!

  59. 2 days ago, I had the new AA update with the split screen. Everything was working perfectly. 1/14/2023, another update wiped out the split screen, and I can no longer toggle to any of my other apps nor the controls for any apps running. I’ve gone to the android FAQ and don’t see a solution. I have cleared the cache on Android Auto, Maps, and my other apps that I frequently use. There are no other updates pending on my OS or apps. Will there be a fix for this?

  60. Adrien dice:

It works sometimes, every time I switch towers while driving, it shuts off, then 10-20 seconds later, it might come on. Sometimes when I get back in my vehicle after making a stop, the screen freezes on my 2021 F-150. App is just locked up. If I turn vehicle off, open door. Then restart, it likely will come back on, but not always let me listen to what I was.

  61. Edit..new review. Got the black screen yesterday. Cant make phone calls or use navigation..basically nothing. Previous review The app, android auto, is very convenient. It is also quite easy to use. It’s not perfect. It doesn’t always connect. Sometimes it has a mind of its own. But overall, I like it.

  62. After 2 yrs with very few issues, the app icon on my car touchscreen is completely grayed out, and I cannot for the life me figure out what to do. I’ve tried EVERYTHING I can think of; including purchasing multiple cables, un-installing/re-installing/updating the app, and all troubleshooting advice found online. I need to use the screen projection on my daily commute, it’s so much safer than trying to look at my phone while in traffic. My car is only 3 yrs old. How can I fix this? PLEASE HELP!!

  63. “Hey Google” is broken for me with Android Auto. Sometimes works for a single command right after my phone connects to my car, but otherwise the lower bar just refreshes and there is no opportunity to speak a command. This has been going on for over a month. Android Auto updated to a newer version (but not the most recent version released) yesterday (1/1023) and I was hopeful the update would fix it, but no such luck.

  64. Using on my new 2022 Hyundai Kona N Line. Working well at this point. A few nuances to adjust to. The Google Maps navigation projected on my car’s display has been very helpful. Interface between phone and infotainment has been quick and seamless. Still can’t play music I’ve recorded from my phone, but this is a compatibly issue. Pandora media interface is flawless though.

  65. Use it all the time and generally it’s good. We use it a lot while traveling (12k mi/year) and sometimes it tries to force a new route which is bothersome. I’m towing a 42 ft trailer and the route I set, is the route I want. I don’t care if the new route saves me 2 minutes. It would be cool if Maps could be configured with some RV-friendly options, e.g., height, length, weight, etc. I know lots of RV’ers pay for other devices and software just to have those features.

  66. Android Auto is like most Google apps. Simple, intuitive, and feature packed; but also prone to small bugs because of all the apps able to tie in. In the 3.5 months I’ve had Android Auto in my car I have encountered a few substantial bugs, but was always able to get around them by side-loading another version. Most people won’t be able to do that though, so it still affects the rating. Overall I love Android Auto and hope it continues to improve.

  67. Tanesha dice:

It’s fine I’m Bluetooth mode but, plugged in (which is my preference for directions) when it works, it’s great. But 70% of the time it’s disconnecting, stick loading, or the device is not compatible. Any movement of my phone makes it disconnect. It’s not the cord, I’ve tried new ones and tried the old ones in different places and they’re all fine. It’s extremely frustrating to lose your directions mid-route.

  68. Great app, but the maps voice guidance often gets clipped at the end, making it so you don’t hear the full last word or two at the end of the voice guidance audio clip. This has been an issue for years. Other than that, the app is great. I’ve used it with dozens of cars (renting for work travel) and with multiple phones. This issue occurs probably 20-30% of the time – too frequent.

  69. I’m a big fan of Android Auto, but just got the updated version. PLEASE let me revert back to the old interface. Now, the only options for using the map are to have no media controls or for the media controls to take up almost half the screen. While using navigation I just need to be able to pause, play, and skip media. The controls at the bottom of the map were perfect. Please bring them back!

  70. Overall it works absolutely fantastic! There’s a couple things I would like to improve. 1, I don’t like that it entirely disables functions on your phone while you’re driving. Regardless of whether you are moving it does not give you access to Google maps on your phone. I’d like the capability to do this when safely parked but still connected to Android Auto to do more detailed searches / additional functionality that the phone has. 2, it needs to disconnect quicker when the car is shut off.

  71. When it connects, its amazing! I love Android Auto. But occasionally when I plug in my phone, Android Auto gives me an error that it cannot connect right now. And to change the cable, which I think is funny considering its the same cable that works 90% of the time. I noticed this happens when someone else plugs in there phone. And then later on when I plug in mine, then I get an error. Might be a bug.

  72. The app is too limited. Especially when it comes to having a large viewing screen in the car. It needs to have more than one app viewable at a time. For example, I am only able to view spotify or google maps, not both. It causes me to have to use the touch screen just to switch between the two. Very inefficient. Please fix this asap! I would give it a one, but I appreciate being able to use google maps from my phone instead of having to use a car’s navigation system.

  73. Works… Except I’m sure the experience varies from car to car. When I plug my phone in (2017 Mazda) sometimes my infotainment is just a black screen that fixes after I plug it in again. Occasionally it just crashes and restarts after a few seconds, and if it’s listening to me and I get a notification it turns the microphone off and cuts me short until I restart Android auto. But when it works, majority of the time, it’s essential. Couldn’t live without it.

  74. It’s pretty darn accurate on directions, accident alerts, speed traps, ETA, etc. Love that it’s right on the screen in front of me, I don’t have to handle my phone when driving. If we make any stops along the route, it just resumes where it left off, I don’t need to pull up the directions again. It also comes in handy for finding restaurants, gas stations along our route. I feel very comfortable using Android auto and would not travel long distances without it!

  75. Had this option for 2 years in my car but only when my phone is plugged in, not bluetooth as I prefer to use it. But had a roadside emergency and needed to us Google maps. That was 2 months ago and I now plug in my phone every time I’m in the car! I can access Pandora, Double twist and a few more apps on my phone as well as easily use the phone and maps. It gives me losts of options. And everything is controlled from the big screen in my car that’s at eye level.

  76. I like the new lay out. I feel this runs smoother than the previous build. It’s much more responsive. I would give it 5 stars but I don’t know if it is a Google issue or Ford issue but I have a vertical infotainment screen and there is so much unused screen that the map feels small. It’s shows what song is playing on the screen in two spots which is unnecessary. If they could figure out how to better use vertical oriented screens I could give it a 5 star.

  77. Stopped working consistently as of a few weeks ago, and when it does, it randomly disconnects. Now I can barely get it to work at all. I’ve tried reinstalling the app, factory resetting vehicle, different USB cables, it’s the app though as others have pointed out being the culprit. FIX IT! Edit: I tried the troubleshooting steps, it doesn’t make a difference. Most recent update appears to be the culprit.

  78. zakk lowe dice:

*Edit* as of the recent update 1/9/23 super impressive with the new overlay that mimics the apple car play. Absolutely love this change and hope it’s here to stay. Very satisfied!!!!!!? Loved it before the auto “do not disturb” feature. I’ll manually turn it off and it will turn back on. Very annoying when I’m waiting on a text for an address or a phone call, and due to this feature I never get the notification.

  79. The app works as expected for the most part; however, the volume for the music is low and even fluctuates from being too low to going to a more normal volume, the map changes to night mode automatically at night (I have not found a way to stop that), and sometimes it simply will not connect or gets disconnected randomly. Also, the touch selection on Goggle Maps not always work as expected, even though selection for routes are shown, they cannot be selected.

  80. Driving interfaces are all becoming very similar, which means we as a community are finding what we like. I think Android auto has more features available on the screen which can be good and bad. On my recent road trip (2000 or so miles) there would be times where my phone would randomly disconnect from my dash. I would have to click the option to do Android auto again, happened about 10 times. Not sure if that is my phone or the software.
