A video app made just for kids
YouTube Kids was created to give kids a more contained environment filled with family-friendly videos on all different topics, igniting your kids’ inner creativity and playfulness. Parents and caregivers can guide the journey as your kids discover new and exciting interests along the way. Learn more at youtube.com/kids

A safer online experience for kids
We work hard to keep the videos on YouTube Kids family-friendly and use a mix of automated filters built by our engineering teams, human review, and feedback from parents to protect our youngest users online. But no system is perfect and inappropriate videos can slip through, so we’re constantly working to improve our safeguards and offer more features to help parents create the right experience for their families.

Customize your child’s experience with Parental Controls
Limit screen time: Set a time limit for how long your kids can watch and help encourage their transition from watching to doing.
Keep up with what they watch: Simply check the watch it again page and you’ll always know what they’ve watched and the newest interests they’re exploring.
Blocking: Don’t like a video? Block the video or whole channel, and never see it again.
Flagging: You can always alert us to inappropriate content by flagging a video for review. Flagged videos are reviewed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Create individual experiences as unique as your kids
Create up to eight kid profiles, each with their own viewing preferences, video recommendations, and settings. Choose from “Approved Content Only” mode or select an age category that fits your child, “Preschool”, “Younger”, or “Older”.

Select the “Approved Content Only” mode if you want to handpick the videos, channels and/or collections that you’ve approved your child to watch. In this mode, kids won’t be able to search for videos. The “Preschool” Mode designed for kids 4 and under curates videos that promote creativity, playfulness, learning, and exploration. The “Younger” Mode allows kids 5-8 to explore their interests in a wide variety of topics including songs, cartoons, and crafts. While our “Older” Mode gives kids 9 and up the chance to search and explore additional content such as popular music and gaming videos for kids.

All kinds of videos for all kinds of kids
Our library is filled with family-friendly videos on all different topics, igniting your kids’ inner creativity and playfulness. It’s everything from their favorite shows and music to learning how to build a model volcano (or make slime ;-), and everything in between.

Decent, but needs some improvement. It’s nice to have more control of what my child sees on YouTube. The parental controls are good. The video controls are lacking; rewind is a 10 second rewind, there is no option to start from the beginning. If you go back to watch a video that you had already watched halfway, you have to watch from the last watched part. The select highlight on the tv is white on pale blue, it is not easy to see.

  2. Lovert dice:

Needs better Subscription integration. There’s no way to subscribe. It’s not easy to find the YouTube channels the little watches, nor are there playlists from the channels when found. Little’s can use it easy though so that’s nice. The recommendations are good for the most part with only a few misses.

  3. This app is okay… I just feel the parental controls aren’t very strong. First of all, in order to access the parental controls settings, it asks you to solve a basic multiplication problem. I myself am a child and I’m able to easily solve it. If your child knows their multiplication tables, I wouldn’t reccomend it. Second, I’m only able to watch certain channels that have a certain number of subscribers. This is annoying since a lot of the channels I watch have under 1k subscribers.

  4. Unable to enter my birth year on lock screen. When I press on the data entry points, no keypad appears, so I can’t enter my birth year. Unable to activate app. Edit: it turns out that the data entry keypad is only visible in landscape mode. This is a terrible user interface, there is no clue that there is something off screen in portrait mode which is the way 90% of people will use it on their phone. Upgrading to two stars.

  5. Would be a five star rating, because my daughter loves it. However, it has stopped working. Freezes on the red screen after the opening music. I sent a message to the developer, and have not gotten a response yet, but it’s still pretty early. Hoping this can be fixed soon, as allowing her to navigate regular Youtube can be a harrowing experience. I will edit this review upon bug fix.

  6. I really appreciate the reasons why this app was created but there some functionality issues that prevent us from moving over to YT Kids. The app can only be used horizontally / landscape mode. Which makes it very hard to search for content. When looking at and for content there isn’t a way to make favorite videos or subscribe to a channel. Or at least I didn’t see an easy way to do this. Additionally the In App music and animations upon opening are a bit annoying.

  7. I like how there’s no ads. My problem is that I can’t create playlists or save videos offline. I have two toddlers and I would like the flexibility of letting them watch playlists that I made. Also, there needs to be an option to save videos offline so when we’re traveling without access of mobile data, I have videos for them to be entertained.

My little one loves YouTube Kids! She’s nearly 2 and can navigate the app pretty easily. The videos are age appropriate. She loves the songs and videos! I’ve been noticing that she’s learning a lot from the app, which is great! She sings along with the songs! Her favorite is Wheels on the Bus! For example there’s a lot of videos showing things like what firemen and women do, etc. So she won’t be afraid of helpful people who might look scary in uniform to such a small child. Highly recommend!

  9. The app is automatically disabling itself after approximately 30 minutes of playback. We are in the US, where the app is available, but it’s triggering the automatic disabling as if we are in an unsupported region. There’s no obvious way to fix the behavior, which turns my son’s favorite app into a neverending source of frustration for us. Google, fix it.

  10. Great app that I can trust my children to be on without coming across anything inappropriate or changing any settings. Its very simple for them to use independently, making it easy for them to switch videos and remain on the app without accidently closing it out, saving us from many meltdowns. My only problem is how easy it is for them to cast their videos onto other devices. There have been many times baby shark has abruptly appeared on my smart TV in the middle of my shows! Lol

  11. Terrible “kids” videos. Mostly crappy home videos of other people’s kids running around with music in the background, weird videos of adults talking in child-like voices with finger and sock puppets, etc. Just a lot of awful junk. Plus you can’t pick favorite videos or subscribe to channels. The only positives of this app is that it’s easy for my one year old to operate and there aren’t a ton of ads. Other than that, stick to the regular YouTube app.

  12. Life saver app. My 2 year old never talks so we were afraid there was something wrong with her. Come to find out she can name all her ABCs, numbers, shapes, and animals if we show her on our phones. This is thanks to the contents on this app because it definitely wasn’t us that taught her. Usually when I cast to my TV, the app would play the next videos automatically but now it stops after which each for some reason.

  13. Keeps getting disabled! I am experiencing the same problem lots of people are seeing. Several times a day the app will disable itself and I have to go into the Play store to reenable it. I’ve read some years old posts about this and tried those suggestions but they haven’t helped. This is a Samsung Tab A 2017. We bought 2 identical ones from Amazon this Xmas and 1 has the issue while the other does not. We have this app on older tablets with no issues. Please advise me on what to do.

  14. So easy to use! My 2 year old is able to work it by himself! I love how I am able to block certain shows and channels I don’t want him watching and it shows only age appropriate videos! You can also view what they have been watching. I also live how there are very very few apps! A lot less than regular YouTube. Every ad that does pop up is completely age appropriate, usually toys or kids shows. We probably only get 1 ad every other day or so.

  15. Charlieee dice:

I LOVE this app! It’s got most of my favorite YouTubers on it, and I also love the timer feature! (If you didn’t know there’s a little lock thing that lets the parents type in a code or do a math problem and they can set up a timer for up to an hour! That’s a long time!) Also, the ads are so short and you basically never see them! I do wish there was a way of downloading videos though.

  16. My kids love this app more then anything. They use it in the car before bed and anytime they are bored. Love that I can make different profiles for the kids so it keeps their likes and watch lists seperate! It’s nice cause there’s not a whole lot of ads like YouTube has and they are short and easy for my 2 year old. Sometimes kids don’t understand the reasoning for ads.

  17. I love the option to handpick the content my toddlers can watch. There are a few educational videos they love that are only available on youtube. But the screen cast button doesnt appear even when I toggle the setting on and off. I’ve even uninstalled and reinstalled the app. It’s a pretty useless app if I can’t cast to my tv. I’m not going to have my two toddlers crowded around my phone when we’rr at home and we have a tv with a Chromecast. so ive had to use the regular youtube app again anyway

  18. This app works when it works. It is terrible when it doesn’t work. It will randomly delete/dump the offline videos. I’ll go somewhere and there are no offline videos saved for car rides. When I set the timer, if you don’t click it exactly right, it will not initiate the timer. Then it doesn’t turn off. Ever. The kids version has the ability to cast to different screens. If my kid hits cast, it will cast. This turns on our large tv. I’m convinced it also disables the timer. It’s very frustrating

  19. I want to be able to resize the video and the video thumnail popup. I’m tired of YouTube not protecting free speech and kicking off creators at will. When composing a comment why can’t I save a draft. Move the controls to the bottom. I want split screen in landscape. Why does my video stop playing when it connects to bluetooth. Why are casting and bluetooth controls in the app and not in OS. Why is there a max playlist size.

  20. Ok first off, there is no COPPA and second, this app makes no sense, when I type in something it shows me something different, like come on, this app also has cringy videos like? Why would I want to watch that, and when I listen to music or search up music it’s always piano, instrumental,or nothing at all, it’s the worst. This app needs to go.

  21. The shortcut on the homescreen and in my app menu keeps disappearing!! I have to keep going into Google play and re-enable the app. This is becoming quite the tedious activity! Great app otherwise. I haven’t downloaded any other apps bc of this. Going to be uninstalling unless bugs fixed. Will change rating afterwards also. Ty!

  22. This app is like 95% garbage. The timer is cool, and the simplified UI for kids is great but it’s simply the most idiotic implementation of what any parent would want it’s incredible to think who decided on the feature set for this app. So let’s list off the terrible: no playlists, no recent history, no subscriptions to channels, no choosing what videos to download for offline. That’s right folks, there is a basic search with no filtering and recommendations. It’s an insult of an app

  23. This app used to be great but now it plays videos over and over again! Also, I don’t have the ‘cast button’ showing on the app anymore. My husband has the same phone and he has it on his app. I tried re-installing and making sure the casting opyion in settings is turned on but still no success. This is a bumber!

  24. I cannot edit or change my daughters settings. I know there is supposed to be a lock in the bottom right corner but all there is is a little cog for the settings and it gives nothing in the way of controls and I cant seem to find how to fix this! I cant control her screen time or what she watches so I’ve just had to disable the app altogether and re-enable it for a short but and constantly have to block videos or channels.

  25. Videos won’t save. After the child watches so much, it is supposed to use that info to save a small amount of videos for offline. This feature used to work for us. Now everytime I click offline videos it says it doesn’t have enough data to save videos! My child watches it tons! Makes no sense! Makes for a lot of toddler frustration when she can’t watch without Wifi!

  26. Lacking. I have a 6 year old. On the setting for 5 to 7 there are no cc subtitle options. Also. If she decides she loves the background music or song, there is no credit given for who or what is in the video as there would be under a standard youtube video. Makes it difficult because i prefer she turn the sound off but if there are no captions shes stuck just watching. And without the descriptions under the video she cant search for similar things either. The concept is great, just needs more.

  27. Hala IDK dice:

I wish they have a in and out button when there is a ad. When it says “well be back after this ad” sometimes it will load forever and won’t stop but if you can get out of the ad that will be better. And EVERY day sometimes when I want to watch a video, it pauses, then will load and load and load non stop!! And then I have to delete then go back. Please fix this big problem

  28. This is a fantastic app especially to keep the grandkids busy for a short time. Although one thing I have noticed, is when I go to close the app the music still runs sometimes it will not even close. I think once of these bugs get fixed, I will definitely add another star! Thanks guys!

  29. while it’s easier to use and safer for kids, there are way more ads. In the morning there is an ad after every video. There are still a lot of videos where the title is in another language. I wish I could customize to only English videos for my 1 year old. There are still occassionally inappropriate videos which can easily be blocked or reported. My kids like to watch the same videos over and over but it almost never starts at the beginning.

  30. I liked the idea of approving certain shows or channels for my daughter to watch so that she can use it herself without me needing to worry about her watching something she shouldn’t, but unfortunately on her LG V20 this app slows down enough to be completely unusable soon after starting any video. The framerate gets slower and slower until you’re just staring at a still frame from the video with the sound playing in the background. Restarting the app or the phone doesn’t help. Wish I could use this app but I had to uninstall it.

  31. I have a tablet for my 4 year old and installed this app to better monitor what he can watch. Unfortunately, we are having issues with it buffering constantly no matter if he is on wifi or through general service (the laptop was purchased through my plan and has its own information). I have made sure the app is up to date, we can be sitting next to each other and our devices both say they have service, however his will buffer videos. It has become quite inconvenient.

  32. Love the interface, my toddler can poke around and “change the channel” as my husband puts it. If you pin it to the screen, even better! My complaint is that the algorithm clearly favors certain channels over others. I have to go digging for some channels because all that pops up is Mother Goose Club and Baby Jojo. I’d like to see more variety on the home screen, give lesser known channels a shot. Super Simple and Baby Einstein are my favorites!

  33. I would give 5 stars if you could unblock a single channel instead of having to unblock everything. I love that you can block just the video or the whole channel but I’d like the same options for unblocking. Other than that, it’s super easy for little ones to use. Only shows safe material for kids, I feel comfortable leaving my 3 year old with it if I’m not able to watch directly over their shoulder. Love it.

  34. It’s the best app for kids and easy to use but can you just edit the feature of forwarding the video because its so complicated on that topics we have to first drag it forward/backward the if its to much then drag it back again so if you just adjust that it would be perfect 🥰 . If to talk 👄 about else it is perfectly perfect 👌 .love the option for ofline videos and settings 👌. If you just add more searches relevant to kids like doreamon etc. I would like it more when you upload full videos.

  35. Tim H dice:

Recognize that many (most?) parents use phones, and don’t just hand their device to their kids. The landscape-only orientation is terrible on phones. Why no option to flip to portrait? And the automatic ‘theme song’ adds pointless friction. I don’t need a cartoon every time I boot up (or after crashing, which is frequent). Second, all toddlers like repetition. But the algorithm hides watched content and doesn’t save searches. Other apps actually understand the parental side of the audience.

  36. Aya Sami dice:

No matter what you choose when you set up the app, it still shows contents in languages that you didn’t choose and it has so many unuseful and unsuitable content to kids. Your only solution to avoid that is to select the content yourself, but this also doesn’t help much because you lose the varauties since the app keeps showing the same exact videos when it is open so most likely the kids keep watching the same things as they don’t scroll much

  37. There are too many ads and when I click on a video it’s just straight up blurry. it keeps loading and it won’t stop it only lets me watch 3 seconds of a video before loading again!!!😠😡 the app is for watching YouTube videos but without bad stuff in it but, it only adds on baby videos and not even the good stuff!!!!!!!

  38. S Pun dice:

YT kids crashes without report when on a timer and on latest Chromebook stable OS. Also sometimes the timer does not countdown or is omitted after setting a time and finding out it did not stop as expected. The crash report has been removed due to too many crashes!

  39. Generally good but the parent controls are difficult to use. The user interface could definitely be improved. Also, wish there was a way to subscribe to English content only.

  40. FEATURE REQUEST: I want my child to only watch English cartoons. There needs to be a setting for that. Right now she watches English, Hindi, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Russian, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bangla, etc etc etc. It’s very distracting and the toddler has a hard time developing language skills. PLEASE ENABLE LANGUAGE-SELECTION FEATURE !!!
