Great concept, but poor execution. My main complaint is that whenever I use the app, it disables my Bluetooth headset. Mind you, these are GOOGLE HEADPHONES! Every time I use the app it happens. It depends on the day, but they divert audio every two minutes to every couple hours. And it’s not like the headphones are disconnected or that Bluetooth is turned off somehow, it just disables audio output through my headphones. The only way I’ve found to fix it is to turn Bluetooth off and on again.
Not sure what’s going on with this one, because it’s not showing links to scheduled meetings (meeting links are on Google calander and in gmail), it’s calling itself “Google Meet (Original) with a slightly different icon on my device), which is very confusing. Video and audio quality has been poor the last few times I’ve used it (no network or device changes to cause it) as well.
This has been a huge problem and shake up. I’m at my senior center where it was much easier to make a video call with Duo for my client’s. Now that it changed to Google Meet it’s to many steps. What in the world did y’all do with this. You have made it much worse. Please make the steps more simplified. This new program wants you to send the link, before you make a call. Why not make the all without sharing the link like Duo previously did instead changing the whole platform.
I love the realtime captioning feature in Google Meet! It’s very fast and it *doesn’t* typically cover up the mouth of the person who is speaking. I wish the process of starting a meeting with someone was much, much easier. Also wish that the notification for when a person is trying to join a Meet was much louder and provided better visual notification. There can be frequent problems with the video stopping. I wish we could get some feedback about *why* this is happening.
I’m fairly biased towards Google, but I do really like their video meeting solution. It had some issues in the beginning (like lack of grid view), but they’ve addressed this over the past few months. The desktop app is great, but the mobile app could use some work. I don’t like the portrait layout, it would be nice to have a full screen video option in portrait similar to Google Duo.
This app is okay, but it sometimes it glitches and its doesn’t work offline. I get disconnected from calls often and a lot it says “the meeting hasn’t started yet” even though its in the middle of class and I’m trying to get back in from being disconnected. I really like the raise hand feature though. I have horrible ADHD and this feature is something I love to play with by clicking it repeatedly. Honestly, I don’t have many complaints because this a great app and it has far more potential.
Great when it works. Very frustrating when it doesn’t. Very buggy, constant crashing; when I attempt to maneuver through screens or present, the app ceases to respond. I’m fully updated and using a Chromebook that was released late 2019. When using the Chrome extension, it’s a little better in terms of staying in the actual meeting, however the response time is much slower. Otherwise easy to use and intuitive. If I could hold a class from beginning to end without crashing I’d give it 20 stars.
This app lacks features. Pros: it is included with my g-suite, and the closed captioning feature is fantastic and seems quite accurate. Cons: you can’t choose your gallery view, when you are filming you can’t make yourself whole screen-this is not helpful when using it to virtually show a space, you can’t be sure of what you are showing the audience. Scheduling a meeting from the app (vs PC) doesn’t seem to be an option. No recording option is available. Switching views in the app is clunky.
I installed this on my samsung phone and tablet. It works fine for 2 or 3 people, but for more, you can only see little images of the others in the right panel, and only up to 3. There’s no way to do a checkerboard layout that I could find. You only see them when they speak. On a recent family event, the web version worked well for them, but this app was a total disappointment. Also has issues sending audio to the speakerphone or bluetooth device on BOTH Samsung devices. This app needs work.
Not up to par w/ competitors… like where is the option for owners to set up a waiting room for punctual participants vs constantly typing in the same code over and over again until the host opens the bridge. Seems like a waste of time and unnecessary effort. Also breakout session capability would be good, virtual background or the option to blur out the background would help, and the owner being able to mute all. These are basic capabilities that seem to be missing as standard conf tools.
Even with a good internet connection when I use the app on my galaxy a7 tablet the presentation of the screen is too blurry for students to read. I have tried Uninstalling and reinstalling the app, clearing its data, clearing the cache. I have made sure no other apps are running on the table. I have checked everything. There has to be some issue with app. I have screen shared on my phone in the same wifi and it’s perfect but when doing so from the tablet it is so blurry you cannot even read it.
I haven’t used the app in my phone but in my PC it’s really bad. Hangout was more reliable in my opinion. Also, if you have the feature to change the background why in the world you don’t have the choice to do chroma key? (like Zoom does) Trying to change my background with my green screen results in even worse image quality than without green screen. That’s absurd.
Missing basic features. Can’t save resolution preferences. Both my kids have Chromebooks from the school. The laptops struggle at high res. For every class, they have to manually drop the res. If they disconnect, they have to redo it after rejoining. Simply saving the preference will be great. The school district is rolling out zoom in few weeks. Looking forward to it.
Buttons Moved The button order is different than the online application. I tried unmuting myself and ended up hanging up by mistake. There should be consistency between the mobile and online versions. Also, viewing the chat is harder with the new update. It’d be nice to also have a feature that blocks the sound from the speaker from coming through on the mic to avoid echos/feedback.
I love google meet, and I use it for school. But, when I am working with a monitor connected to my computer, when I am typing something on a document, the google meet suddenly does whatever it wants. It turns on captions, it decided to present my screen for me, changes my layout, and so many more annoying things like that. Is there a way to fix that? Thanks
While this is a great app, it used to be way better before the update recently. The captions are slow to update and usually are very behind, you cannot kick anyone from the meeting anymore. That is the biggest problem now. I was in my class and someone joined on an account and none of us could kick him, and even worse they started playing vulgar music and pornography on the screen while presenting. The microphone has a load of echo as well. However the app is great with video and voice. Thanks!
I haven’t had many problems with this app, when my teachers need me they put a link on classroom and im there. The video can sometimes lag behind like half a second to a full second but that might just be my mobile data. The quality of the videdo could be a little better but I don’t have a problem with it, so I think it can be a useful app when needed.
It needs improvement. Pinning people does not work. It displays a white solid color instead, and removes their camera and displays their pfp. There are little amounts of settings. We need audio & video source switching added back and an option to change the layout, like the website version. It also could use a dark theme. Thank you for reading this review.
It’s functional, but lacking features it’s competitors have offered for some time. For example, you have a single, portrait-oriented layout. Does not support landscape, so the beautiful broad shot your phone’s camera can take means nothing. Frankly, it strikes me as a lazy design choice. It works, so 3 stars.
Would be great if it didn’t crash every 10 minutes. It may be my chromebook, because it’s very cheap. (not old, cheap) but it’s brand new, about 3 weeks old, and I have only downloaded a few pictures and apps, not enough to make it crash repeatedly because I have very low space. Please fix this. Zoom isn’t secure at all, and I don’t want to have to go back to it. Thank you.
It’s easy to use, and works. In order to catch up with Zoom, it needs to enable a grid view on the phone app (currently, as far as i was able to figure out, that only happens on the computer). Another feature it needs is allowing people to join automatically (with the meeting code).
It’s a very professional app with a nice and smooth interface. The video and audio quality is also excellent. But there are some lackings in the Presentation mode. The presented screen is very choppy (20-25 fps) to the viewers. Also my device audio is absent when I am presenting my screen. Only I can hear the audio of any video being played but my viewers can’t hear any audio. It’s just like watching an absolutely silent film. Please bring device audio sharing besides device screen sharing asap.
The app is decent, just that. Teachers can present their information, but not their videos as videos sound terrible in meet. As well as that, a major problem with the app is that you cannot send a message when people join, leave, or start recording. Otherwise, this is a good app for presenting PowerPoints and others of the such.
Hangouts worked well, but it said it was being discontinued and to use Google Meet. After using it three times, I’ve uninstalled it. The video keeps freezing, making it impossible to have a video chat. The voice and video end up being out of sync, and the app has closed in the middle of a session several times. During my last meeting, I had to install another app and hold up a piece of paper for the other person, “Check your email for an invite.” (My 1 hr meeting ended up being 25-30 min.)
So there is a reoccurring issue on my application that for some reason, on my android device, the camera that’s on the same side as your screen goes completely black on your screen. When you change it to the more outward camera, it works just fine but it becomes very bothersome to deal with when you need to be looking at the other side, and your face needs to be shown. I have deleted and redownloaded this app a bunch of times and only on random does it work again.
Fine on computer, terrible on mobile The mobile app had no way to see multiple people on the screen at one time. I would rather see a bunch of small boxes of people on the call than have a seizure with one screen flipping back-and-forth between whoever is speaking. It would be fine for lectures where only one person is doing most of the speaking. But if you are having a meeting or casual conversation, it’s basically impossible to keep up with who is speaking.
I’m giving 2 stars because the new app UI is just bad. Screen is smaller, cannot message while seeing the screen, cannot see who is presenting a screen. Also “joined/left” notification are shown very annoyingly. The previous version was way better. Honestly it just needed dark mode. It was more effective to use. Please change the UI.
Overall great experience! A small feedback: Can improve Google meet’s joining UI screen usability for mobile application as by default, mic and video being On and to turn off, icon looks quite smaller. Also, after getting into the meet, when somebody presenting their screen, the user icon (mine) disturbing the full screen view. Kindly try to solve this issue. And I’m literally satisfied by overall Google experience. Thanks!
Its good, however the problem I have is that i can’t move my video box or whatever you call it. It’s in the way of the presentation whenever I full screen the presentation of somebody in the Google meet and I can’t move it out the way. I am using an Android phone but whenever I use an iPhone I could move the video box of me around or slide it to the side to hide it. I wish you guys could add the feature to androids too so I can view the whole presentation without the box on the corner. Thanks.
It’s really annoying coz whenever I download it, it converts to the old version itself and while joining any meeting it shows that u need to update whereas the play store is showing that it’s the latest version that I have…. Literally annoyed with it… Hope u will resolve it as soon as possible
I’ve always had a good experience using this app. But now I’m unable to use it like the old way. Can’t join any meeting from the phone either it’s created by me or someone else. Always giving error that ‘couldn’t join the meeting.’ & throws out of the app. No matter if I use the original meet or the Duo upgraded version Meet app, I’m unable to join the meeting from phone. Please look into & fix this ASAP.
The app crashes on opening. After being opened, the app closes. I can’t open the app, so please don’t tell me to use the in app report feature. Furthermore, tried almost everything possible. Reinstalling the app, clearing cache data, restarting my device, and even clearing all data but it simply doesn’t work. Multiple other users have also reported this but the reply is just some kind of reply saying do this or that BUT IT DOESNT WORK. This is a problem that is needed to be fixed.
Great app, I love it. I do really wish it intergrated Google Translate into its’ functionality as an utility that enables real-time translation of captions and in-call text messages during a video conference call, both into the user’s pre-selected language. Imagine if users all over the world could communicate in different languages through this app (as well as other supported apps like Gmail and Google Chat) and instantly understood each other. All language barriers would be broken.
This app is very good. But please can you return it back to an unlimited number of hour session and not for one hour only, so there will be no interruption during the meeting if it exceeded to one hour. Thank you.
Have a meeting link stored as a bookmark on chrome, on clicking that it takes me to play Store, doesn’t open the meet (original) app which is installed & configured on my phone. Before you say it’s a phone issue, I would like to let you know that my phone has stock Android.
I gave this a four because sometimes the voice just crashes and I can’t hear anyone and sometimes others can’t hear me. And sometimes people’s videos are randomly paused. Also,I get out of the meeting sometimes due to no reasons. But these are extremely rare so I pretty much love this app. We are humans, not robots! Even robots rarely make mistakes!
My voice is unable to go on the other side as it is connected to Bluetooth headset. Plz fix this ASAP. We have to use either speaker mode or wired headset. Fix the bug of bluetooth headset.
Call and video quality were good on 2 out of 3 sessions used, in one the audio was very distorted, echoing and delayed. Had to reset the session and that resolved the problem
I’m not using any old device.. I’m using Latest Samsung 5G mobile… MIC audio quality veryyy loww.. need to enhance the bandwidth. Signal connectivity also very poor even in high signal ratio..
I don’t want to give a single star because whenever I join my class it just shows setting up the option to join never comes. And I’m unable to get connected.
