An absolute dumpster fire of non-stop porn spam. I cannot believe that there isn’t a feature to block all incoming file shares that aren’t in your contact list. But nope… you have to open the app, go to the sharing section, access the offending file’s menu, and then block the sender. Each individually. Absolutely unbelievable. Outside of that it doesn’t matter how awesome the app is and how convenient it is to store things in the cloud with it. The constant spam that my kids might see when they’re playing with my phone makes this an unusable app that needs all notifications turned off and to be hidden from my app drawer. Just absolutely unbelievable.
This app is not good at pdf. Like it will open a PDF. But if it’s fillable sometimes I’ll save it and it will drop data from filled boxes. Sometimes a box will turn blank 30 seconds after I write in it. It keeps wanting to synchronize files and denies me access to files that are attempting to synchronize. Sometimes you can’t get it to stop synchronizing. It’s a mess. Really only good for Google docs.
Still hate the latest version. No thumbnail view for video search made it impossible to find the video that I wanted. Uninstalled the updates and then found it in 30 seconds. Please fix this problem and let me know when you do. Now I can’t even see the file names when searching for videos. It is getting worse all the time. Still no way to find videos because the thumbnails are not visible.
Because of my new phone I wasn’t aware it doesn’t have an SD card I’m forced to use drive uploading the music was easy with a PC what’s difficult is trying to use this as a player want to shuffle music? No option. shuffle videos? No option!! Stops after just one. You need a cloud music player, money! and video player more money but there’s no way to have any sequential playback so useless. 1 terabyte of storage and jump through hoops just to access it! Download it 1st extremely user unfriendly
Overall a good experience, however, security features have always been a concern of mine. Adding a Personal Vault feature like OneDrive would be extremely beneficial. Also, adding an app lock feature would be great. I currently use my phones secure folder feature to provide and extra layer of security to protect my files, however, it creates an inconvenience because the app does get updates while in my Secure Folder. Therefore, I use MS OneDrive for files the need higher privacy and security.
Review update: Wish I could take away the one star I gave it. It’s still an absolutely worthless app. Thank you for your response, Google. Yes, I have tried various networks, and uploads still hang. I wish I could send you a screenshot. This is the most frustrating 1st party app on an android phone I’ve used in years. What a disappointment.
Drive is the slowest, most tedious app to use in existence. Moving photos to other albums takes longer than T9 texting did on an old flip phone. Why Google hasn’t fixed this issue in decades, I don’t understand. It takes an hour just to move a few hundred photos, which has to be done one photo at a time! I have to clear my device memory & cache every 10 minutes to prevent Drive from crashing on any device I use. This is pathetic. Microsoft here I come.
All uploads getting stuck on “preparing to upload”. Then the app freezes. Every time, no matter what kind of file or how big the file is. I’m beginning to regret paying for Google One. Great job Google! A storage app you can’t upload files to! And it’s been like this for like half a year! Oh, and the Google Photos app has the same problem, I cant upload my files there either! edit: clearing the cache does absolutely nothing, it never has. The app is broken
google drive has been my life safe space since I discovered it when for the first time around 2014(?). I don’t think any other cloud drives come close to this product. onedrive has a lot of catching up to. other file management apps can be confusing. Google drive is so intuitive. it can open PDF files and gives you the option to save it in location of choice within the drive. it can keep back ups of other apps like WhatsApp Chat backups. you can share files, collaborate, you name it!
Uploading files is extremely painful. One never knows if it’s really Uploading. It shows all files Uploading, no progress, nothing. It feels like “cross your fingers idiot”. Never works well. What’s wrong with product managers at Google? Reply: Yes, it works very well on mobile data. It fails when you queue uploads while on mobile, once you reach a Wi-Fi network, to proceed with the upload, and there is no way to follow or ensure progress (if you have the setting “download on Wi-Fi only”)
By far the worst Google app I’ve ever used. Can’t get files up upload after multiple attempts. Some days it works, most days it doesn’t and i pay a monthly fee. And yes I’ve tried multiple networks even in different states. Also, yes I’ve cleared the cache, I’ve even cleared the data, and also uninstalled (I’ve repeated all of the above at least 4-5 times in the past week. was finally able to upload last night. But i anticipate the same issues over and over.
The app’s file uploading is incredibly frustrating. It constantly gets stuck when uploading multiple files, requiring cache clearing instead of a simple retry. This often leads to lost files. Even with a stable Wi-Fi connection, simultaneous uploads struggle. I’ve tried all troubleshooting steps, but nothing works consistently. Uploads can take hours, even on cellular data. The entire experience is inconvenient and time-consuming. The app desperately needs a better file uploading system.
It is a horrible service. It gives me a hard time. It disconnects from my car all the time. Whoever wrote the code for this app, needs to do a review and update on it. I will give 0 stars but no choice. My problem is that I connect my phone to the car and suddenly disconnects. Android and the app is compatible but it disconnects all the time. I had upt out of using it just like with Google maps.
Update DOWNGRADE. Drive, particularly Sheets, has been my go-to for spreadsheets for nearly 10 years. With the most recent update, however, many of the features were removed from the mobile version. Plus, I can no longer force my preferred browser into desktop mode & access a full-featured desktop version. If the goal was to release an update to make the product worse. Congratulations! You’ve NAILED it! BOOooo! 👎👎
Google drive thinks it’s smart by deleting anything you delete from your device from itself as well, with no setting to change this. That’s the opposite of what I want from a cloud service. Now if I lose files on my PC, they are immediately deleted from drive the next time its opened. Brilliant. Its been years and the desktop client is still hosted in a browser. Google’s offerings are pitiful. Overreaching, ineffective, resourse heavy software. So many ads. So much of our data.
The app makes file backup and organization very, very easy. It’s been great. However– my one request is that the “you’re running out of room” notice use an algorithm based on how quickly you use to your storage to set a more reasonable notice schedule. For instance, I have 200gb. Drive has been telling me for a year that I’m almost out of storage, because I hit 175gb. I don’t need to know that every few days. I’m not using up the storage that quickly, so jeez, I get it.
Terrible experience for uploading. I already reset my app data, this is Googles fault not mine. I’m in an actual rush to beat a deadline, and firstly the app notified me via a silent notification that it was WAITING for WiFi when I did not have it. So I got WiFi and even though it’s all uploaded, drive keeps saying waiting to upload. This app causes me STRESS. I will do everything I can to not use it in the future. This is not acceptable and unbecoming of the reliability I depend on from Google.
It’s good. But it’s scan feature on android doesn’t have option of blacvk and white filter, but the iphone app does. It’s frustrating that it’s own company is doing injustice and giving priority to iphone. That’s why the two star. I use the scan feature a lot and I miss the black and white option. I should’ve given it 1 star.
At some point, a few months ago perhaps, the app has become extremely buggy to upload documents. They now get stuck pending upload with “awaiting network” even though I’m connected to both WiFi and cellular. Maybe that 10kB document finishes uploading a day later. A full storage and cache clear does nothing to fix it. So something is wrong with this app on my Pixel 8 Pro. O well. Edit to the lame Google response. I have cleared app cache multiple times. That’s just android 101 lmao.
Drive’s android app really sucks. It fails to upload with no notification that it failed. It sits on “waiting to upload” instead of uploading the file. I pay $10 a month for this storage space, but Google Drive just “waits to upload”. On the same device, with the same internet connection, the upload takes about a minute to Drive in the browser. Google refuses to acknowledge this is a bug in the app and fix it, and only tells you to “clear app cache” which doesn’t help upload the files.
Actively looking for a replacement for this app because they intentionally make it unusable. I cannot edit my book without clearing up storage. Even when I do, it still prevents me. Every time, they try to force me to pay to upgrade my storage. I deleted 6gb of data yesterday. I emptied the trash. I still cannot edit. I did not have this issue before they wanted to sell something. Today, it says my storage is full again. I don’t think that intentionally annoying your users is ethical.
On my phone, Annotations feature does not work on PDFs: I tried opening a PDF on my phone and using the annotations feature. The drawing feature saved my work after hitting the save button — but when I went to edit text fields , it did not Save my work , even though I hit the save button and refreshed The document. I am using Samsung S10+ for reference.
This app just pissed me off. I had transferred some video/picture(s) and cannot move them out and it’s asking me to delete pictures & videos I had taken during my vacation. Have I find a way to move them I will no longer use this garbage app on my device ever again. Give me a link where I can move them back to Google photos as it’s prooved this app is not suitable for storage! Also it does not tell me how much data was transferred on uploading screen either, I mean it don’t give me enough detail
Seriously this is the worst app it will not download anything even when I took it off of Wi-Fi downloading only. it just sits and Spins and Spins and Spins. then even when it does spin you can’t hit the X to stop the upload. madness! until they fix these issues seek other cloud storage devices. If I found an easy way to get off of this drive I would it never works ever…! Cleared Catch and Cleared Data… Now it says “waiting for Network.” and I am clearly on the network.
