-FAQ: http://www.moondownload.com/faq.html
I’ve been using the free app for roughly a week. I switched to the paid version not too long ago. Everything has been working fine except that I have one issue. Where when I’m editing pdf books by highlighting, underlining, crossing out, curly underlining and delete them by clicking on where they are located in the book pages, the bookmark location of the text edits are still there.
Really nice in its customizability! However, its handling of foreign language content is stupid and completely inconsistent. You have to set your system language to the language of the book content you want. Book in Chinese, change the systems language, go back to app and open the book, Book in Japanese, change language, go back to app and open book. If you’re reading two books at same time in different languages, you have to switch back and forth, back and forth. Extremely frustrating.
1. The UI deviates significantly from Android conventions (eg prefs aren’t searchable; unintuitive location of runtime options like brightness). This might have been OK years ago when the native UI lacked provision of advanced functionality, but that hasn’t been true for years. 2. Some of the defaults (like maximizing screen brightness) make no sense. 3. Obvious bugs like PDF text reflow being disabled if screen orientation changes. Also, text reflow doesn’t come with infinite scroll.
Once you get the controls and theming adjusted to your liking, it’s a great app. I love the flexibility on notes and highlights, I set custom dictionary to a web search and with that the app seems to have become perfect. I like the book information section, it’s good to know when I read something last and how long it took me. My only grip is I wish I could export metadata and notes and import it onto a different book. (Like for stories in progress that you download latest version of)
App failed when I needed it the most. Due to recent flooding, we lost power and internet for an extended period. I wanted to read at night, but the app refused to load any books on my tablet, it just errored – I assume because it couldn’t contact a license server for the app? So I was stuck in the dark with nothing to read. It worked perfectly fine when the power came back on. I suggest sticking with the free version – it might work when you need it. Or find another epub reading app.
It works as a reader, with lots of options. But, key features I use are way too buggy for this late in development. Acrobat view that makes it like an ebook is lost when rotated. Most frustrating is that notes are not exported in correct order, making them totally useless. Basically, it means I cannot use this app to study.
I’ve loved this app, but it stopped working. It lost the page number that I was on and started back on page 1. Whenever I try and scroll, a second later it will jump back up to the first page, making it impossible to read anything but the front cover… Not sure if this is a breaking update or if there is a workaround? But I just paid for this recently and now it’s completely useless
Complicated, won’t scroll from side to side, only ‘vertically,’ misleading, no page flip animation. It “locked up” on me when I was customizing the scrolling and after reading the FAQ, apparently there’s no way to unlock it. Very frustrating and exhausting. It seemed it would be awesome when changing the book covers, until I actually tried reading in it. Too tired of fooling with it, sorry. The $7.99 was immediately refunded, thank you. I’ll keep checking back for you to fix the page scrolling.
Very good app except for one thing. When I try to add Google Docs that I had converted to Epub to Moon+Reader Pro, words and even paragraphs are either spaced out or broken in pieces when they shouldn’t be (for example, the word “pulled” is shown as “pul ed” in the e-reader, which is missing a letter). It makes it very distracting to read. Is there a way I can fix this issue?
works for the most part but there will be multiple times while reading that the app will freeze or crash altogether… thought at first that it was because I had the free version, so I went ahead and tried the pro version. Figured that it wasn’t a bad amount to spend for something daily BUT still having the same issues if not more often. Needs to be fixed
Hello, I enjoy using this app, but I’m having issues like: – (auto-starts txt/voice) when turning off Bluetooth. – Bluetooth button presses does not reg with start/stop. ________ I would love the option to (highlight/’crop-to-zoom magnet’ option/button), so when you flip to the next page you don’t need to self-adjust. Please and thank you~!
This is a great app, and I’d give it 5 stars, but it has a few problems that I can’t seem to find a fix for. 1.) I use this app on my kindle, and when looking at my library with the all filter on, nearly every single book cover is blurry, yet when I look at my library with the reading or finished filter on, none are blurry. Can’t figure this one out. 2.) I can’t find a way to display book names or author names while in library mode. Not a big deal, but the ui definitely isn’t perfect.
Started freezing up. With longer pdfs it has started doing a hard freeze, while “speaking”. It is such a hard freeze that you can’t even get it to stop by going into the Android apps management section… You have to reboot the entire device. I’ve used this for many years and I love it. Recently I have had to abandon it (same problem on 2 different Android devices).
Simply the very best. I like to read a paper book, but years ago I started reading on a tablet to allow me to read in bed without disturbing my wife. I searched for software that worked well without having to fuss with it overmuch. I’m an IT engineer, so I like features, but dislike unintuitive interfaces. This software is EASY and feature packed, allows me to use almost any file type, customize my interface, and mimic a paper book experience. I get everything but the smell of musty pages.
Love this app, have used it on several devices in the past. There is a little bit of a learning curve but it is so customizable that eventually you can get the perfect e-reader experience out of this app. One thing I am struggling with is that I have my book sync between my tablet and my phone, and whenever I open up the book on either device, the syncing causes my bookmarks/notes/highlights to duplicate. If anyone knows any way to solve this it would be much appreciated!
This is the most feature-rich, customizable reader app I’ve found; there’s pretty much nothing missing. The only areas that could be improved IMO are: 1) the organization of the settings menus can be a bit confusing (which is also true of other feature-rich reader apps), and 2) the interface isn’t the prettiest, and it would be great if the look of the interface itself was more themable (which the developer indicated could happen in the future). These are small nits, though, and as far as I’m concerned, I’ve found the only reader app I’ll ever need.
As far as I am concerned, the best eReader app of all. However, I’d really love to see it support “Small Caps” (unless I am missing some special setting or other, they do not appear with this app. And I am rather fond of them for chapter titles and such). It’d also be quite nice to have a full “dark theme” (in menus, etc). I am a bit disappointed there’s no real user guide or manual, though. That would be rather useful. But, otherwise, I really do not have any gripes with this app. I particularly like the ability to scroll (or, why I loathe Kindle app for its lack of that feature, among myriad others). And the fact that the margins are not comically generous (another detestation of mine of Kindle app) and are fully adjustable and so on. Great app. Thank you!
The “blue light reduction” doesn’t actually reduce blue light. If it did the screen color would shift more to the red. Instead it just makes things more opaque, so that part is pretty useless on a phone or tablet, if that’s what you’re looking for. The rest is extremely customizable, though. I have it installed on my Likebook Mars, and it works great. It’s way better for organizing and reading my ebooks than the stock reader.
It was frustrating to find the control settings and options. It took time to make peace with the app but there are so many options for customization. This is indeed a nice reader and I’m glad to use it finally. Now it goes on sale for half off after I paid full price, hate when that happens. Timing is everything. 😕 Upgraded my review anyway, the developer deserves credit for their great work.
Probably the best ereader app I have found. Fast, very customizable, and I love the ability to sync across devices. I’m leaving 4 stars because there is a very strange behavior: I have my library stored in a folder structure on my device and all the books imported into the Moon+ Reader app. When I open a book from within the app, everything works fine, but when I open a book from the android file manager, Moon+ Reader creates a copy of the file in a new ‘Moonreader/attachments’ folder, and opens it from there. Not only does this create duplicate files on my device, it also creates duplicates in the Moon+ Reader shelf. I don’t want Moon+ Reader to manage my files for me. There should be an option to turn this off. It would also be nice to have the option to turn off the animations when bringing up the menu bar or opening a footnote for e-ink devices.
I like this app a lot and would give it 5-stars if I could figure out how to connect it to the SD card in my tablet. I have over 2K of ebooks, so I have them separately from the main storage. I can’t get the app to find it. Otherwise, I really like how all the books, docs, etc flow and are really readable. I like that I can change the brightness by sliding my finger up and down the screen…very nice! Info from dev works perfectly. I had tried before, but didn’t recognize the folder names.
Awesome app! I have used it for quite a while now. Just love it. Very customizable. The only thing I am having trouble with is the text to speach timer. I accidentally checked the box that says, “Don’t show this again” and now I can’t turn it back on. I use the timer feature a LOT. Even as an alarm so I won’t want to listen to just a little more before… 😁 You can set any time on it which is great! Developers please make it an easy option to get to. Found fix. Thanks for help!
Let me start by saying that I absolutely love Moon+ Reader Pro. I’ve been using it for years. I’ve tried a few others, but never for more than a few minutes. There is a reason that I sometimes try to venture out and try another app, though. I’m not sure how long ago, actually, but a few updates ago, Moon Reader doesn’t work as well as it used to. What happens is that, often, only a partial page will load. I can eventually fix the page by tapping it, but sometimes, that doesn’t work. So then I’ll go into Visual Options in Settings and change the Page Flip Animation. It doesn’t matter which one I use, they’re all equally broken. I’m not a developer, so I can’t be 100% sure that this is the problem, but it seems to be. And even after I fix a page, the very next page might be broken. It could go on for several pages, or it could be fixed. And sometimes, the next page will be double, or will skip ahead a few pages, maybe even to the next chapter. This will happen several to many times in a book. Using my volume button to turn pages does seem to cut down on the problem by a lot. Sometimes, I make it through a whole book without a problem when I do this. But I’m on tablet and have little hands, so it’s kind of annoying to have to do this. I will often clear my cache, but this has no effect on the problem. I considered deleting the app and books, then reinstalling, but I have about 3000 books on my tablet and they’re organized nicely, so I’d rather not. I’m using a Samsung Tablet S3, so I’m wondering if one of the updates didn’t account for some older devices (even though it’s only 4 years old). Please fix because I really love this app and want to always use only this one for reading.
Moon Reader Pro works great. I had an issue with pdf files recently and it turned out that swiping from right to left to go to the next page resulted in a loop where I could only go to a few pages before being sent back to page 1. Tapping on the right side (which is all you can do for ePub) to get to the next page worked perfectly for pdf files as well. The Developers got back to me right away when I thought there was a problem with the app. I’m not sure if swiping worked in a previous version for pdf files but tapping on the right side of the page works every time.
Update: I reinstalled the app and moved my books from SD to internal storage and everything is working as normal again. Back to 5 stars. This app used to be amazing until recently. The latest version is lagging and full of bugs. Some processes like updating a new cover takes 10-15 seconds to complete. The app is also freezing a lot. I would appreciate a fix. (Note 8)
Please integrate with AndroidAuto for TTS. I love this app so much and I have donated since it has been my most used app for years. The only thing that it is missing for me is the ability to listen while using AndroidAuto. I can’t even use a work-around like AnyAutoAudio because it’s not implementing the default media service. This can also cause problems because you can have TTS running and a music player app. Bluetooth controls get all confused when this happens. Thanks for the amazing app.
I honestly can describe myself as a voracious reader, i originally used PDF’s until i was told that epubs tended to be smaller and faster to work with. That’s when i stumbled on Moon+ after about 5 minutes working with the free version i knew THIS was what i wanted in a reader and decided to buy the pro version. I can tell you this folks, i have very rarely been more satisfied with a decision. Moon+ allows for very customizable features, which came in EXCEEDINGLY handy as my back problems got worse. I bet you’re going “What does that have to do with anything?” and to answer that question let me tell you my all time favorite feature of Moon+ reader. I have been given the ability to customize how the app responds to button presses for a bluetooth media remote. Want to turn to the next page without touching your tablet? I set it to do that with a press of the play button on my remote. Want to go back a page? Simple enough since i set that to happen if the camera button on the remote gets pressed. I can only hope that when samsung releases the software for the S Pen configuration that the app developers add support for it too.
Pretty great. Love the customization of this app and supports all the formats I throw at it. Really, the best PDF reader in the playstore. Unfortunately, for dictionaries, it doesn’t work well. I try using the Dictionary App, but keeps telling me to download it, even though it is already on my device. Edit: So, I tried the suggestion for it to work and it kinda works…kinda because when you tap the “Dict,” nothing happens. If you go back, it will launch the search for the word 3-5 times.
I hereby humbly request the aid of Moon Reader Pro’s glorious Developers. I have been a customer over various idents for more than 5 years, altogether. Yes, I have purchased multiple licenses to this software. It is that good. My feature requests is… The ability to have TTS loop back to the beginning of the book automatically. As in a toggle option. Like repeating one song over and over again, the repeat one function. Thank you for the work you have performed on this wonderful piece of ‘ware.
It is a little wonky here and there and could use some fine-tuning. The syncing issue I had was resolved after I deleted the cloud folder and reinstalled the app on both of my devices. Everything is syncing, even the highlights and notes which is great. The developer responded to my issue really fast, I was actually surprised at how fast they responded. Great app for reading and doing research 👌👍
Overall, this software is very good, but I met some problems below with my pixel3 XL. 1. I bought this to use Text-to-Speech Japanese novels. There are options to customize Bluetooth headset buttons. I tried to stop and play TTS with a headset button, but it doesn’t work. 2. TTS repeats the same chapter. Once it happens, the problem gets fixed by rebooting app. 3. Cannot displayaa Japanese vertical writings.
Almost every feature I want and more. This app is really one of the best e-reader apps out there and the paid features are worth a couple extra bucks. The only thing I feel Moon+ is missing is the ability to open books in separate windows so that I can use split screen to see both at once or easily swipe between the two. ReadEra had this feature but it also had its own problems that made me switch. If Moon+ had this feature it would be the perfect e-reader app.
Edit: I don’t believe the developer’s feedback helped my issue. But this is still an amazing app and my minor issue isn’t that big a deal compared to the positives. I’m an avid user who had the free version in the past. Recently formatted my tablet and re imported my library by putting it in a folder. However each cover thumbnail looks very blurry on my shelf. I’m sure the same epubs didn’t look this bad in the past. Is there a way to re render the thumbnails?
I love this app. Kindle used to be my preferred way to read books but the features and customization options put Kindle to shame. The only thing I wish it had is the ability to access my books in OneDrive. I like to use that for storage instead of Drive or Dropbox but this still a pretty great app. I think my favorite feature is the ability to choose where on the screen to tap to move forward a page or go back. This is an awesome app and worth every penny I spent on it.
It’s got a lot of great features but I think there’s room for improvement. For example: regarding the auto scroll, there needs to be more sensitivity: e.g.: 51% is too slow and 52% is too fast. Lastly, it would be great if there was an option to disable the hard chapter transitions. Make them truly continuous like Kindle Reader.
There’s lots that’s good about this app but one thing that consistently frustrates me is how finicky it is to set custom highlight colors and how there’s no way to save them permanently for future use. It’s also very easy to accidentally click on a default color as you go to highlight, which is extremely annoying and requires me to reset my custom color. I wish it was possible to save your own set of colors and perhaps even an option to have multiple sets besides the default.
This app is almost perfect. There’s one thing I really want to see added which is the option to divide content by single words, not just commas, periods, paragraphs, and page for the text to speech. This would help my eyes focus on each individual word, otherwise I get bored (I have ADD). I will rate up 5 stars if you can add this option, thank you.
Their suggestion worked for headset controls, but only when all are set that way, not just play/pause. The options are also not available in the options from the main menu, only while reading. Seems like an odd setting to have off by default and it would be convenient to have all the options in all the options menus. You get 5 stars for your prompt response though.
This is by far the best epub reader I’ve used, and I’ve tried everything I could get my hands on. It can open every common ebook format, use custom fonts, and override the css in any book. The interface is easy to learn, and the paging controls are both easy to use and customize. The one thing it does once in a while is forget how long a page is. This happens after some type of resolution change or screen resize, from what I can tell. If you switch between landscape and portrait then back, it returns to normal.
The Pro version is Much better than the free version for TTS & reading. Many customizable features & has a clean, clever interface. TTS works well with shake & gesture modes. I have 2 requests. First, I’d like to be able to change the top/bottom bar color, as of now there is only light (day) & dark (night) color. Second, I prefer that continuous scrolling does NOT stop at chapter’s end as it halts the reading flow. I hate how many ereader apps do this…it’s counterintuitive. Thanks 👍
Best e-reader period. Unless of course you don’t like options. I read a lot, and moon+ pro ticks all the boxes. I haven’t opened my kindle since I downloaded this. The ability to set the options exactly like you want them is unequaled. A pure joy to use!
I really wanted to love this app as I’ve been looking for an alternative to the Kindle app. Unfortunately i had too many issues with Moon Reader and on multiple devices. First was the never-ending initialization that occurs on the first open of the app. Then, there is the fact that the page flip feature doesn’t work on either device I had installed it on. Finally the difficulty in getting the virtual navigation (the back button) to come up without scrolling the page to do so. Disappointed
