  1. Downloaded this to be able to watch games using my ESPN+ subscription, but it doesn’t appear you can do that. I can see the links to watch, and have no issues on a desktop web browser, but tapping on the links in the app does nothing. There is no error, you just can’t launch the video. Truly amazing that such a huge issue made it into a production version of the software.

  2. Ads work Great!!! Actual ESPN content that I want to see, not so much! Ads play for the full 15 seconds with no interruption. Then the highlight clips starts to play. Within 5 seconds of the video starting, it begins to buffer throughout the video. I thought maybe it’s my service. But how ironic it always starts buffering in the same spot every time. If the actual content played as well as the Ads, this would be a great app! Note: I have VZW, full signal strength, and app is up to date.

  3. The streaming hasn’t been working for the last couple of weeks, but everything else did. I tried clearing cache and force stopping, neither worked. So I finally uninstalled and reinstalled the app, now I get no video or no news. Only thing that works now is my preference page and scores. I contacted support, which is a complete joke. Took them about 6 hours to respond and their solution was I needed to get a different device. Totally useless.

  4. Glitches and is mostly useless. Rarely has the game availible that I want to watch. Even more rare for it to be live. Navigating throught the app is confusing. Every time I bring the app in Roku, I have to sign back in, sometimes getting into a “sign-in/activate” loop, and missing most or all of the game.

  5. Horrible user experience. Slow, freezes, tries to play a video the second you launch it. Constantly denies content due to locations that are incorrect. ESPN+ doesn’t have volume control, opens articles in an in app browser that always crashes. The notifications are so late and half the time they don’t even open to the right page when you click them. Picture in picture does not work on pixel 6 pro

  6. Un/Re-install needed each game. Even though I’m signed in with my valid ESPN+ account, it offers to sell me an account, and denies access to watching games. Infuriating. Uninstalling and reinstalling makes it work again. Exhausting. Stupid. I would expect better from ESPN. If the account weren’t tied to my cellular service, I’d cancel my subscription.

  7. A mediocre app that I use all the time. It does it’s job as a sports news and scores app and does it well. However, constant, albeit minor bugs are rough, performance is middling and it’s battery usage is quite high apparently, however that may just be me. Overall it gets the job done but nothing more. It’s big in my life but could still use some improvements.

  8. This app is horrible. Nothing but constant ads for every little sports clip that you want to watch. You have to watch 15 seconds of advertisement every time you want to watch a 10 second clip. I get notifications and I click on the notification and the app won’t load. If it does load it doesn’t load to the article that it actually referenced in the notification. The only good thing about it is that there are a fair amount of games on there to watch but that is very glitchy. You’re rich, fix it.

  9. If I could give “zero” stars, I would. I’m a pretty tech savvy individual and this app has so much stuff that it’s super confusing. I just want to watch the world cup and after 2 days of messing with it, it still can’t figure it out. I tried to cast videos and it keep crashing. I tried to connect to Bluetooth and the sound totally stopped working on the app. All the other sounds from my phone came through Bluetooth except the ESPN app. 🤦‍♂️ Considering how big ESPN is, this is pretty sad. REALL

  10. One of the most poorly-designed apps I’ve had the misfortune of installing. A single star for Disney/Verizon as well, who bundle ESPN+ with a mobile plan (instead of just making the service better and more affordable), but almost no content is accessible—the app constantly asks for a “TV provider” login. It’s a complete guessing game, as the app mixes accessible and inaccessible content. Twist of the knife—the few clips that will play are preceded by commercials!

  11. App no longer loads properly. I’m not sure if it was the result of an update, but this app will spin for 5+ minutes and never load when it used to work. Occasionally, I can get it to load if I’m not on wifi and am willing to wait a while, but even then, a lot of buttons are non functional, which makes navigation a nightmare.

  12. Lauren W dice:

The app is fair easy to navigate once you get used to it. It was great for the first two weeks I was able to watch MNF games without issues, now it’s telling me I have to be signed in with my TV provider. The whole point of me paying for ESPN+ was to not have to go through my TV provider and actually save some money. Turns out that is not the case. Sorry for the low review but this might make me get rid of this service altogether.

  13. Rarely works. It won’t even open anymore. Does this on my phone, and my TV, so I know it’s not just my device. It’s completely useless. I’ve checked the version of my app and my software, all good. I’ve cleared the cache. Reinstalled the app. Restarted my phone and TV. Nothing works. The app is so bad, it can’t even be opened.

  14. Great for reading sports news. But the video player sucks. My workout keeps getting stalled when watching old episodes of the Ultimate Fighter because it crashes and asks me if my “Ready to watch?” Yea, I’m ready. That’s why I was watching something. This app sucks for the cost of an ESPN+ subscription. I recommend subscribing through Hulu and just watching through that app. I used to have it set up that way, but can’t switch back as I paid for the year of ESPN+ through the actual ESPN app…

  15. This app is constantly glitchy. The videos play automatically and over my music. You’d think they would have it down by now, but they don’t. It sometimes won’t even open for weeks at a time and I’m forced to delete and redownload. Also, the way in which you find scores is way more complicated than it needs to be. Do better ESPN.

  16. This is hands down THE WORST sports app currently available. It is truly awful, ridiculous for an entity the size of ESPN. It makes you login in repeatedly, finally acknowledges the login, then claims that the channel isn’t part of your TV package (spoiler: it is), then claims authentication failed, then on the 10th or 20th try at doing the same login over and over, abruptly decides to work. Or doesn’t, you never know! Once it does log you in, it will freeze every 3 sec for 30 sec.Godawful trash

  17. Basically no matter where I am or how good the wifi connection is, the app won’t even load the pages if I’m on wifi. This is a big issue because I both don’t want to waste my data streaming games and I can’t connect to my television without wifi connected. I was able to sort of trick it by being on data until the game was playing and then switching to wifi to cast to my tv. Once. And I dealt with buffering far too many times. I ended up not watching the game.

  18. Too many ads during videos. 15 sec ads for videos that are barely 20 seconds. My biggest complaint is the notifications, or lack of. Sometimes I get them quickly for my teams, other times they show up way later, if they even show up at all. Some sports I never get notifications for and I clearly have them set for it.

  19. Worthless app. I got it with the Disney bundle. I watch NBA games and even though there are featured games, it says you need to have a tv service provider to watch them. It seems it doesn’t recognize I’m paying for the goddamn app. If I was able to, I would only pay for Disney and Hulu, even if it is 1 cent, better to have it in my pocket than to waste it on ESPN.

  20. Sam dice:

Reviewing this for use on the PS5, since you can’t review it through PS. Extremely poor video quality, frequently needs to buffer and will buffer for minutes on end or indefinitely. The audio is always a few seconds behind. I have fiber optic ethernet. A really unfortunate turn for the app. I have similar issues with the app downloaded to my TV. When I was a kid I used to stay up late to watch SVP, now I use streaming sites so I can actually read the players’ jersey numbers & have synched audio.

  21. Hogfan11 dice:

When opening a game (Bowl Mania, Qatar Bracket Challenge), it doesn’t stay on dashboard; instead, it goes to the page for starting a new entry. It’s impossible to see how my entry is doing. Some live events don’t play, the page just refreshes when you press to open a live stream. Videos still don’t load when opened from a notification often.

  22. This app absolutely sucks. The ads are overwhelming and every sport imaginable is constantly in your face. It really needs options to weed out the garbage so you don’t have to go searching for what you want every time you open it. Like I need the latest kabaddi or jai alai nonsense in my way. You can choose favorite sports, teams and leagues but there should be some kind of “never show” option for others. Also, they really want me interested in UFC, it’s in my face every time I open it.

  23. If I could give it half a star or no stars I would. App only works when you watch the premium content you pay for. When it’s the regular espn stuff that linked with your cable if you have any doesn’t seem to work properly. Constant buffering and app crashes. This is an app I’m paying for and mind you, the price has increased. But the quality has not. It has either remained the same or gotten worse. I know I cannot be the only person with this problem 🤔. Loading: Class action suit..

  24. Fails more than half the time. I (want to) use it to stream NHL games but often tapping on a game to start it just flashes the screen and doesn’t do anything. Restarting app or phone didn’t help. Total garbage for a paid subscription. Don’t even get me started on the blackouts.

  25. Will dice:

Not worth 99 cents a month. About half the games for my team have been blacked out or I need a different subscription service from some other provider to watch it. The website wouldn’t load for over a month so I couldn’t change my payment method and it took over an hour on the chat support to fix the issue. It’s absolute garbage that this app has monopolized sports content if you don’t live within your team’s broadcast area. This isn’t even worth a free trial.

  26. WOULD NEVER SUBSRIBE AGAIN! The live stream would not work. I contacted a friend who works alongside espn for a college, and said ESPN has continuously had this problem. They don’t fix it. I then sat on hold calling ESPN for 20 minuets, when they hung up on me without answering. I then called back, and sat on hold for 16 minuets before getting a person on the other end. He was a complete jerk. So rude, and talked down to me, even though it was a ESPN problem, not user error. Subscribing NOT IT!

  27. The constant advertising for espn+ is driving me crazy. They have a banner ad block off content when you first open it so you have to click it and get a full page ad for espn+ before you can look at scores or stories. Alot of the promoted content is also locked behind that paywall so you sometimes have to dig just to find an article you want to read. Still a solid app for following games you cant watch which is the only reason it has 2 stars

  28. Lowered to two stars because it will not open on most occasions when trying to view the app on my Galaxy S22. Something has happened with the app over the last couple of months, this never happened before, but now I never know when the app is going to fully open and be usable or not. ESPN+ paying customer, very frustrating.

  29. So I hoped it would be better a year or so after my initial review, but it still is one of the worst apps I use. It works ok on every device I have except my smasung S22 Ultra. Also didnt work on my Note 10 I had before that. Espn plus never opens when I need it to. It just stalls and buffers until I give up and have to go to find a TV to watch it. The whole point of an app is to be able to watch it on the go, but this one is so aggrevating I just want to smash this phone. Espn this is trash

  30. App crashing constantly. Have to clear all data to get it to load and after a day or two it crashes again. Still need a cable provider to watch most games even with a plus subscription. Also it seems I can’t get rid of all the annoying notifications. I just want info on my team and nothing else.

  31. Content is good not great. Main problem is the casting. To cast to my TV always has issues. “an error has occurred” “content isn’t available at this time” etc. Have tried to reinstall app multiple times hasn’t fixed it. Update: again so many issues with this app. They should anticipate the amount of people using this app if that’s the problem. Now giving it one star instead of the 2/5 It’s too bad ESPN has a Monopoly on UFC ppv events

  32. Constantly loading and never actually loads anything. Can’t get to anything other than the toolbar at the bottom which doesn’t go anywhere. Have uninstalled and reinstalled and still have nothing but a loading screen. Only reason I have the app is because it was included with my cell phone plan. Not worth the trouble.

  33. When casting from my phone, my phone has to be unlocked for the stream to be uninterrupted. If the phone is locked, you’ll never be able to watch anything for more than a minute or so before it buffers and reloads the stream. Very frustrating. EDIT: Looks like the bug above was fixed. Disappointing that I can’t split screen or PIP the video on this Android app, so there’s room for improvement.

  34. Coming from YouTubeTV as a primary app for watching sports, ESPN+ is noticeably bad. My biggest complaint is the user interface/controls (I am using an Android TV device). The controls are really dated and not a good implementation. When trying to fast forward or rewind, it is blind process where you mash buttons and hope for the best. And if you leave one event to check on another, it doesn’t remember where you left off so you have to start over. It is 2022, this app should be a lot better.

  35. If you want to watch advertisements us HD quality, this is the app for you! If you click on a video you can read assured that the advertisement will load and play without pause. You may not be so lucky with the actual video though. Also, after the video plays, and you exit out of the video, an additional advertisement will play again. The only way to get it to stop playing in the background is to force close the app. The videos will often start loading in the middle even with full with 5G…

  36. Might be the worst app from a major company I’ve ever seen. Rarely just opens. Currently takes 10-30 seconds depending on its mood to open. When it does open it’s so slow as to think I’m back on dial up. Any good story is of course hidden behind their ESPN+ paywall. Notifications are relentless and just this side of uncustomizable. Try any other app but this one.

  37. The app just doesnt work well. For example, if you watch a video then exit out, the sound from the video keeps playing as it continues auto playing. (Also, I kinda figured the ads would go away if I got ESPN+. Silly me.) If you’re reading an article and slightly tilt your phone, it sends you all the way back to the top. (This gets super annoying if youre trying to read in bed.) These and other problems have been around for years and they haven’t done anything to fix it.

  38. Nice selection of shows and sports, the only real thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is 3 fold, (no English subtitle option, because I am hard of hearing and I don’t like having to increase the volume of my television to the point where my neighbors can hear to what I am watching. Also, no playback and no resume show features.) Would be nice in the near future to have the ability to use subtitles, and to have a playback and resume program features. Other than that, ESPN+ is definitely worth it

  39. This app is faulty at best. I only have it as part of the Disney+/Hulu bundle. But, I often try to stream ESPN+ shows and, why I continue to try is beyond me at this point. The videos IF they load take forever and once they do finally start playing goodness forbid you touch ANYTHING (such as adjust the volume) or else it will completely exit out of it and you have to start all over again. It’s ridiculous and needs to be fixed. No excuse for this.

  40. I wish this app would work better! The audio cuts in/out. Replays of games are super glitchy and don’t always load. IF they do, it’s constantly buffering. It doesn’t remember what you have watched or where you are in a specific replay. You have to remember what time frame you’re in and go back to find it. You have to wade through everything to find specific leagues/sports instead of the app remembering what you liked when you first signed up. Overall not worth it until bugs are fixed.
