Fix the back button. Used to be that hitting the “back” or “forward” button on Bluetooth headphones or car controls, the audio would skip back or fwd 30 seconds. This feature is absolutely crucial. Now the app skips back or forward an ENTIRE chapter. This can a 20 min to multiple hour jump in the playback. No one wants this change! It renders the app almost unusable. When I press back in my car, or at the gym, I don’t want to skip back 45 mins! I want 30 seconds. Changing settings does not fix
Frequent random stops for several updates. Not appreciated. Don’t want to fumble with my phone while driving or working out. Sleep timer frequently loses my setting (I frequently use the “end of chapter” option). It seems to be more stable if it isn’t running in the background, but playing an audiobook in the background is EXACTLY what I want the app to do. Same issues using the version from the S-shop or the G-shop. Frustrating.
Audible stops playing as soon as the screen goes dark. That has never been an issue before. Terrible listening experience! Was working but stopped again last week (end of 2022). This is not an enjoyable experience at all. I also want to add that when it does stop playing the book, I have to do every single step of setting it back up to driving mode. Ridiculous! I’ve spent countless hours and actual money on books to listen while driving. It is the main and really only reason I have Audible. 🤔
UPDATE: 12-14-22 – The app has been randomly stopping lately and won’t show up on Android Auto. Extremely unsafe if I’m listening and driving. I keep having to stop. Hopefully updating the app will help. I use this app every day. I really enjoy listening to audio books while cooking/cleaning/relaxing/doing everything. I have never had any problems with the functionality and the controls are pretty intuitive.
My audiobook starts as soon as it gets connected with any Bluetooth, headphones or car. I have tried toggling this feature on and off in the settings and it doesn’t matter. It does this even when this feature is turned off. This is very frustrating as my volume’s not always turned up and I’ve found the book playing after a long time and have had to then back track to find where I was. It also cannot be paused if it’s connected to Bluetooth. It turns back on even after I hit pause.
Update: 1/3/23: Still no improvement on the search function for the Plus catalog. Sucks! I am so frustrated with the app and it’s lack of practical function. When in the Plus catalog, if you click a title to see the details, you cannot go back into your search results list. It takes you all the way out of the Plus catalog! It’s completely ridiculous. It should save your place in your results list, obviously. For the price of monthly membership, simple functionality should be there. Please fix!!
I have used the app for years. How ever one issue that has never improved is the speed that the app load screens. Some times the app decides if you will listen to the books you paid for. Also using the store page is a nightmare. More then half the time it does not load! I find using the web site much easier. But sometimes in riding in my car and don’t want to have to deal with it. But at least it’s consistent.
Great app, just terrible search features. You can’t browse the store by author in the sub categories, or reverse the order of the filter, so if you go by, for example, running time, then you have to flip through EVERY PAGE of the catalog to get to the longest books. There isn’t even a store button to just browse the plus catalog that is included in the membership, the hoops I have to go through just to find a list of them to search is insane. I will happily up to 5* if this is resolved.
I love Audible, but recently the app seems to be glitching. It pauses every few seconds/minutes. I have the book downloaded, and it happens regardless of if I’m using headphones, have my phone connected to my car, or if I’m listening on my phone speaker. The app is up to date. Deleting and re-downloading the app seems to help but it’s extremely frustrating
Progress bar broken. The latest update has negatively affected the progress bar. Try to drag your progress 30 minutes in reverse to see what I mean. There are hard stops that you can’t move past or can’t get to. And then it doesn’t update the actual minutes and seconds on the left and right side of the time bar. Please fix and ill update my review.
The app stops if anything else is running on my phone. If I get a text message the app shuts down. If I want to check anything else on my phone while listening to a book the app stop and shuts down. It is extremely annoying especially since I pay a subscription. I would use a different app. This one is fine but it shutting off all the time extremely aggravating.
I love audible and have listened to tons of books that I missed out on over the years, but the app leaves much to be desired. Navigating the store for different kinds of books is as haphazard as trying to browse Netflix. Also sometimes I will just buy a book if it is cheap enough instead of using a credit but you can no longer check your wish list to see when things are on sale.
Mostly excellent- I really like the choices, everything has been clear. I like listening to a sample before hand because sometimes I really do not like the narrator so that saves me from wasting a credit. I haven’t been able to find reiki music for massage therapy, but I will have to keep looking on that. So. MY ONE MAJOR COMPLAINT- WHAT HAPPENED WITH SLEEP TIMER?? IT USED TO WORK. Now, you can’t do end of chapter, customize your minutes, nothing. PLEASE FIX! Can’t use without it.
Love it, good quality, love when books go on sale. Love all the podcast options. I just wish that there was better navigation for looking up podcast episodes and sometimes the podcast episodes themselves are a little glitchy. They randomly skip around or repeat back a few minutes. It’s weird. Not any issues with the books or anything, just podcasts. Still love it.
Keeps shutting off or stuttering. It only recently started doing this but it’s *very* frustrating when it shuts off say, when you’re driving and you have to pull over to go back to the audible app (from Google maps usually – they used to combine nicely with the Audible book being on a strip below the map (an excellent update!!) But now it keeps vanishing and the book shuts off. Or it stops for a couple of seconds then repeats the previous 2 sentences… repeatedly.
Regret updating – bring back button-free! I essentially live on this app day and night and have always found it fairly easy to use. I still do. However, the recent update (12/13/22) took away button free mode, which not only kept the screen alive during playback with minimal battery consumption but also allowed me to “rewind” with a no-sight-required swipe while driving. Car mode requires one to take eyes off the road to do this. Please bring back button-free mode!
The app works well and I enjoy the books and extra things like podcasts. The interface is not great though. They have free books but I can only see the ones they recommend. I have not figured out how to browse them. Sometimes when I close the app The book I was listening to disappears. Its not in my library or currently listening to list. Its a good app but could be better.
This app works great. I like to listen to books while working to keep my mind at ease. Does not buffer or pause, no ads which is a plus. Downloads new books fast. Only issue I had, I finished my first book a few days after installing app and found out app does not allow you to purchase book credits for the first 30 days. I had to wait 3 weeks to use app again for next book in series. After the 30 days were up though, I have no issues. This app helps keep my mind at ease while working.
Love my audiobooks on this platform. I get credits from Amazon often and have a complete library now. Perfect for road trips or enjoying while cleaning my home. In a world full of demands, we have limited time to do simple things like “just reading”. Audible makes it easy to multi-task to meet those demands while still doing something for just ourselves.
This app is now TRASH!! I have been an Audible customer for a long time now and have listened to many books on this app with no problems. However, now I have to re-download the book EVERY TIME I reopen the app. It does keep up with where I left off, but having to download AGAIN and AGAIN each and every time is well beyond ridiculous!!! And that goes for all in my library. All books are no longer downloaded. I was on a chat with a rep for well over an hour yesterday to no avail!! FIX IT!!!
Great book collection. Lots of audio issues, and I’ve tried everything their troubleshooting recommends. It makes for a very difficult listen when there are jumps and pieces of the book frequently skipped over. There is also a hard push toward the membership, and they make it very difficult to buy books without the membership.
Never been much for someone reading to me, I like to do it myself. Tried it once for free, didn’t really like it. Recently I’m on a different schedule and find it relaxing to listen to these books on audible. I’m going to try it while driving. I’ll let you know how that goes. However, I cannot listen while working. I either stop working to listen to the book, or get caught up in work and continually have to rewind, for a better word.
The app stops playing any audiobook I’m listening to soon after the screen goes dark/the phone locks. It makes for a terrible listening experience. This started happening about a year ago. It’s a bug that needs to be fixed. Before this started happening, the app was excellent. Now, it’s really bad.
I’ve used it for years. I have nearly 500 books. Should have reviewed sooner. It’s pretty great. 4 stars because they took away the option to make the fast forward and rewind buttons different lengths. I miss that for finding my place if I fall asleep or accidentally hit play on my Bluetooth when I’m not listening.
I love Audible. I have not used any other audio book app, so I don’t have a comparison. However, if I didn’t like it, I would not still be a user after all of these years! I find it intuitive and easy to use. Maybe knock half a star for the In Progress section. If you go back and listen to a book marked section of something you have completed, it will show up again in the In Progress section. Slightly annoying. But again, only half a star annoying.
Love this app, voices are clean and clear to understand. I’ve had others, but this one beats all so far. You can listen to free books and pay for books. It would be nice if when you paid for a book and it had multiple books in the set you could get all of them. Only saying as I am not able to buy all of the books in the set (financially not able) but would love to listen to all in set. Thanks for listening. I would recommend Audible to everyone.
I love the convenience and the features of in this app. Such as, the ability to speed up or slow done the rate in which it is read. Once you initially learn to use it, it’s super easy. I haven’t ever had any trouble with it functioning properly. The only issue I have is that some books don’t have chapters labeled like regular books.
I’ve dropped my rating from 5 to 2 because over the few years I’ve been using the app, it has a tendency to misrepresent the current listening time. For example, I’ll go into the listening time section after listening for at least an hour or, just to see because I like to keep track, but for whatever reason, the time will be off and I have to force stop the app just to get the correct information, and this can happen multiple times in a day. I have not to say but not enough room here to day it.
Samsung S22 Ultra: Ever since a recent update, whenever I rewind or fast-forward with the button on my truck’s steering wheel, the book which I am reading jumps behind or forward to the chapter start rather than the 15 seconds which it has done since I installed the app several years ago. I think many, many people listen to Audible in their vehicles so please fix this as it basically renders the app useless because rewinding and/or fast-forwarding 0-15 seconds happens all the time.
I’ve tried other audio apps for books. And this one seems to be the best and most stable. Especially with rewinds forwarding bookmarks and the library. I find it’s worth paying the monthly fee for this premium app. I will never go to another audio app again. The other ones only brought me disappointment. Plus with the subscription that I pay for, I get a free book every month some of these books are worth $29 and I only paid 1495 a month
I love being able to choose from a variety of books and reread them as many times as I want to-and each time repeating, pausing, or stopping as needed. It’s part of my adult time for intellectual stimulus and is simultaneously so relaxing. The monthly fee turns into credits for purchases of future books. So, nothing is wasted! With 24 hr access for flexibility to fit my schedule, It’s so worth it!!
The app is pretty good. There are times when opening it, it just circles around indefinitely. I’m not sure why that happens, but I just close it and reopen it. I like the sleep timer. I use it nearly every night. Driving mode is pretty good, too. It makes it easier to use the app with the larger, simplified icon set when on the road. Overall, it’s a pretty good app. I’ve never used another auidobook app, so I have nothing to compare it to.
Good app. Looks sharp but for some reason the feel the need to bury the “Continue Listening” selection on the home screen so far down that it’s faster just to search your library. It used to be right on the home screen when you started the app, change it back and get 5 stars.
I’ve had the app for years and recently started getting really serious about listening to audiobooks on it. I love the fact that I can go from device to device and it remembers where I left off. Some real thought and forward-thinking was put into designing the business rules for this app. I haven’t been this prolific in reading since reading a book a week on the DC Metro, 15 years ago.
I have been using Audible for 20 years and it is the best app. I usually had to give up something to sit and read, I no longer put off work or pleasure, since I can do both with Audible. I have to travel 45 minutes to work, which was so tedious, no longer wit my Audible app, it is a pleasure now and any trio I make is also enjoyable. This from someone that hates to drive. The selection of books is extensive, also! I LOVE AUDIBLE!!!
Wish it was easier to be able to buy an audio book in the app. Otherwise I absolutely love all of the options. Edit: This was definitely amended though now it’s really hard to get to the screen to buy the 3 credit deal. It offers it to me and when I press buy 3 credits button to get there it shows me my membership with nothing else
The app started to behave badly, shortly thereafter, I was unable to open it, and had the error message “sd card not seen”. I uninstalled the app, then could not get it to reload. After spendinh 4 hours of my life that I will never get back, I learned that that the built in obsolescence of my 2018 Motorola smart phone was the problem, not the Audible app. New phone, no problem.
I just want to buy books. I don’t want a subscription. It’s annoying to constantly be prompted to buy a subscription and even more frustrating that some books seem to be unavailable without a subscription. There’s a great selection of books and the narration is usually very good but I’d rather find another app at this point.
I’m trying to listen to a podcast in order, which sounds pretty easy. It’s so easy that every single other app or program I’ve ever used has been successful. You just play the next episode after the first, it’s easy. Audible does that sometimes, other times it decides not to. Usually it likes to wait until you’re driving, then it goes from episode 4 to the very end of the series right in the middle of traffic. Every day. I’ll just use a better app lol, why give money to these “people”
The app itself is fine. Do note that if you cancel your subscription or pause it, they will take away your credits. So spend them before canceling. I don’t know how it’s legal to take away items you’ve paid for already. These are not loaned coins.. We BOUGHT & PAID for the credit. It’s the same as purchasing a book. They should not be taken away because we need to pause or cancel. We are being overtaken by subscriptions to everything now. My one star is for having to resub to get my coins back.
