In order to be accurately named, the app should be called “Apple TV+” since you can only access the subscription-based content and not purchased shows/movies through the app. That makes the app fundamentally useless, because nobody uses Apple TV+ even after they finally, after 5 years from its initial launch, decided to begrudgingly support it on the remaining 60% of the phones in this world. I just want to watch my old iTunes stuff on my phone.

After waiting years for an Android app, I was shocked to learn that the app does not have my purchased Apple TV shows and movies. This makes it fundamentally different than the Android TV app version which has had a version of this app with your purchased content for years. Extremely disappointed that I won’t be able to access my library of media that I’ve already purchased and this is just a way to forced me into another subscription.

  3. This app is a nice reminder of why I’ll never buy an Apple product. It’s such a pain in the rear to just watch Ted Lasso. I constantly have to log back in with seven new layers of multi factor authentication every single time. Without fail, I have to reset my password every time. It takes like ten minutes just to get started. The navigation to find a show is awful. It’s way too easy to accidentally bump the progress bar and then it’s impossible to find my place again. Seriously, apple is awful.

  4. Won’t even load the sign in screen, just freezes on the appleTV logo. I’ve un-installed and re-installed several times. Still no improvement. Got signed in but now it doesn’t recognize my subscriptions. It took me most of the first half to try to watch a soccer game before I gave up and used my laptop. Trying to sign in takes so many authentications that it would be easier to get into a strangers bank account than my own apple subscription.

  5. I had been purchasing media thru iTunes since 2008 (thru my Apple TV, iPhone and iPad), I recently switched to Samsung phone and was happy to see they had an “Apple TV” app. I was disappointed to see that they DO NOT allow me access to my 500+ purchased movies/TV shows, ONLY the Apple TV+ subscription shows/movies. Hopefully they can come to an agreement and update this soon.

Constantly makes us sign in again and again when we try to watch. When I forget my password (which of course I do) and reset it I have to answer my security questions which I can never remember the answers to. I should not have to work this hard for a subscription I pay for monthly but only get to watch occasionally because of all of the hassle! Generally good content IF you can access it.

  7. Well, I’m not sure when this app was finally put on the play store for Android. I will say it can use some work. Next episode won’t play. I have go to load screen and play the next episode. I also noticed the skip intro takes off a little from what your watching not much but noticeable. Once fixed it’s golden. Still better on my tv.

  8. App on my android is super buggy. Will crash often when I try to play something; nothing will make the videos play except chance/luck. I try to open the app and all it opens is a black screen with my profile icon in the top right corner (and it’s not due to not having service, the app doesn’t want to load).

After having to use my phone’s password manager to even log into the app I paid for in the first place, the show I want to watch has been on a black screen unloading for 25 minutes now. It’s completely unwatchable and just doesn’t work. Save yourself the effort and watch the stuff on here elsewhere. You can find it if you look hard enough.

  10. This app is completely broken. I just had to reboot my pixel 8 pro twice in less than 5 minutes because the app crashes so badly, it locks up the interface and I’m unable to force quit. I can reproduce the behavior by tapping on the MLS category at the bottom. Since I don’t have an MLS subscription, it wants me to subscribe, but it locks up and won’t even let me kill the app or switch to another. Useless is an understatement.

  11. Nick dice:

This is the only streaming app that won’t play video. Gets a couple seconds in and then I get an error about my network. Disney+, Netflix, YouTube, etc all work just fine. Apple’s support is useless, constantly blaming the issue on something on my end/device, and yet all the other streaming services work.

  12. Lee dice:

I’m writing to express my strong disappointment regarding the absence of Google Chromecast support within the new Android app. This omission significantly limits the app’s utility and creates a fragmented viewing experience for many users like myself. I’ve been an Android user for over a decade and rely heavily on Chromecast for seamless streaming to my television. Like many Android users, I’ve invested in Chromecast devices as a convenient and cost-effective way to enjoy content.

  13. Finally get Apple TV the app on Android, but it’s a waste of an install. It does not allow you to access your iTunes library on the go like you can do it with your Xbox One or Series Systems or Windows!! I got excited but this is a hard pass don’t download this if you’re expecting to access your iTunes library on the go! This is for only accessing Apple TV+

  14. This sucks, really only for apple tv plus. I have been waiting for this app to come to android for so long. I live in both worlds and have embraced both apple and android devices. This feels like nothing more then a way to access their website with an optional download of the apple tv plus items. I have a very large library over 1000 movies and 100 seasons of tv purchased content. I had such high hopes for this app only to be devastated 💔. Hope apple makes it right and brings real support.

  15. No Chromecast, so I end up watching it on my browser and casting that anyways. I don’t know of any other media app that doesn’t support Chromecast. It’s effectively a basic feature on any android app where it’s relevant. If I were to use a different streaming device I would just use the Apple TV app for that. This app has no purpose from what I can tell.

  16. Can open the app ok and then it’s literally impossible to exit. Not in a “gosh this is so much fun to watch” but in a “I literally can’t navigate to my home screen” way. I had to restart my phone into safe mode to finally force quit it. Pixel 7 Pro. I’ve never had this issue with an app before. Try again, Apple.

  17. Trash app. Downloaded it on my LG tv, and it stopped working halfway through a show. Should be able to access the app through anything I want when paying for a service. Super frustrating will be canceled. The content was okay. I only have a few things I want to watch. It’s probably best to just use free trails when needed.

  18. No Chromecast support. So it’s basically the same as the progressive web app which you can download from an Android web browser. Also the authentication for sign in attempts is kinda broken. You have to choose “send a code to my iPhone”. I don’t own an iPhone. Surely if I had one I’d download the app on my iPhone. Then you have to choose to have the code resent as a text message or phone call because it doesn’t work. But only once you have a code sent to an imaginary iPhone.

  19. Any apple product sucks so bad. I downloaded this app and signed up for the 1 week free, and after completing it, I went to watch a movie. I start the movie, and it plays for 1 minute, then the app closes. I reopen the app just to be told to sign up again, and I do, then it tells me I already have a subscription to contact customer support. I basically was given 1 week free to just look at shows or movies I can’t watch. Great job apple. I’d give this a -5.

  20. Matt dice:

Just like the Android TV app, and occasionally the website, it asks me to start a free trial, even though I have a subscription through T-Mobile. I’m just surprised that it didn’t tell me my account was locked because that’s what happens almost every time I login on the web. It’s infuriating having to go through the unlock process every single time. Gave 2/5 stars because the UI does appear to be snappy. Apple just has to work out the account/subscription management side before this is ready.
