  1. Have used for years, now even the pro version has very odd glitches and bugs, recently got a Samsung galaxy 22 ultra and the apex themes section doesn’t work at all. Just doesn’t load any themes, blank white screen. The app would be wonderful, but having the customizability options gimped in such a major way is a huge ding for me. App runs totally fine on my note 9, sad to see it not run beautifully on a new l device.

  2. Honestly, it’s a great app that I’ve used problem-free for at least 7 years. And then there was that bug during their last update that erased all of my settings, to the point where I couldn’t even see the apps I installed. I know these things happen but the fact that there was no rollback, announcement, or even acknowledgment from the team was extremely unprofessional. And I moved on to a different launcher (Nova).

  3. Used to be the best launcher available. I have the pro edition. Recently I’ve lost the ability to unlock my desktop. This is an issue because apps I regularly use have disappeared and I can’t put them back. You used to be able to double tap the screen to bring up a menu, but that no longer works. Double tapping just disappears my app drawer. I’m close to uninstalling Apex because my phone desktop is locked, and there seems to be no other way to unlock it in the settings.. Please fix this

  4. Shannon dice:

I’m using the pro version trial and I love it, especially since there are no ads unlike the other app lock I was using which had a million ads. My only complaint is that when using the app lock you can still view apps in the tabs view. For example in messenger you can view all conversations on the current screen even though you can’t access the full app. Other than that it seems great so far.

  5. App crashed two days ago, where all apps dissapeared in the app drawer and on my home screen even though still there. Had to switch over to the classic app to see them. Just uploaded the update that fixed showing my app drawer but did not restore my home screens. Now I have to reset them all up again. I have been using Apex launcher for over 7 years so it is frustrating to lose all of this in a glitch and have no way to reach company. The email I sent never got responded to very concerning.

  6. TJ Faber dice:

I’ve been using this launcher for years, and never had an issue until this morning. My widgets are randomly unavailable in the widget drawer (and got removed from my home screen), my background wallpaper reset, and I’ve spent a while trying to fix these issues before realizing that my default launcher fixed them immediately. Something went wrong this past week, and I may have to consider moving to another launcher if these issues continue.

  7. Used to be excellent, but recent versions have been buggy, even randomly clearing my home screen & app drawer, making the phone unusable until switching to the built-in launcher instead. This has happened multiple times now, and I can’t be asked to keep re-doing all my customizations every few weeks because of random glitches.

  8. I’ve been using the “Classic” launcher for 7-8 yrs without any problems. I didn’t even update just copied to my other devices and used settings backups. This year 3 times i found half of my desktop icons are gone and i have hundreds of apps installed. (I’m an app junkie) I was and still unable to perform settings and desktop backups so i cant just “restore” anymore. It is a very time consuming task to find and replace all my icons one by one. Very frustrating! 😒

  9. I’ve had this app for about 8 years now and it’s been great. I had a paid license and such. Then, recently, it did an update where I couldn’t access my apps. Anyways, in order for me to get full access again, they changed over to a yearly subscription service and it was preventing me access to my apps until I paid for it. I received no warning or anything beforehand. Very frustrating. So, I got rid of it and went to my phones default and it works.

  10. Horrible customer experience. I’ve used apex launcher for years, and they recently moved to a paid only subscription model. Rather than let their users know, I woke up this morning to find that they had obliterated my entire phone’s interface. Not even a message or an email. If you would have sent an email letting me know that you were switching to a subscription service I likely would have paid for it. But not now. You have lost a customer forever.

  11. Ken Wetz dice:

Really enjoy this app. Let’s me personalize my phone👍👍. Update: This version crashed on Sept 24, 2022. Hid most of my apps, eliminated my app shortcuts on home screen and any customized icons. Had to revert to the Classic version just to uninstall the app, reinstall did not work. Running Classic now which is not as good. Waiting to see if a fix is coming out

  12. Edit: they patched it, but I still lost all my app locations. Do not recommend, no customer support and zero care for users it seems. \ Had this for years, worked really well and did everything I wanted it to do. Recent update made it not possible to access apps through short cuts, making it unusable. Contacted support twice, it’s been three days with no response to a critical issue that has made this launcher suddenly useless.

  13. When the app randomly lost data and I couldn’t see my apps, I was kind of screwed because the backup function of this has never worked. Not just on my Google pixel, but even with past devices. I simply don’t have time to remake my entire layout at random times, moving to another launcher now because I need stability more than any other feature. I like the visual app layout and images more here than other launchers, but it’s simply not worth the hastle. Hopefully they fix back-ups someday.

  14. Have used for years now and has always worked great, has the features I wanted. A couple days ago it Erased all my apps from my home screen and drawer, but still shows they’re installed. I have to go through and delete, reinstall.. don’t know what happened but erasing and switch over to Nova. Disappointed. Also, the “developers” of these app (in general) have their contact info and location available. Don’t know how much confidence I have with my info over in Hong Kong.. just saying🤷🏽‍♂️

  15. I really like this launcher – that’s why I bought the Pro version. It does what it’s supposed to almost 100% of the time. My biggest complaint is that I had to buy the Pro version twice – once for my Pixel 2 XL, and again for my Pixel 5. I have seen a few glitches (eg the screen did something weird when I added a clock/weather widget). I fiddled with it a few seconds, and the screen went back to normal. My favorite feature is that it gives me SO MUCH MORE flexibility in configuration.

  16. Used this app for years through at least 4 phones. Lately I’d been thinking about maybe trying something new, but I really didn’t want to adjust every setting again and get used to new or missing options. This update solved that problem. Most of my settings were lost or changed, my widgets all vanished, and the new style is hideous. If I’m spending ages recustomizing anyway, might as well be on a new app.

  17. This is the first launcher I ever used back in 2017 and I have been watching it progress as time goes by, and I have to say, this is one of the best launchers out there. This is perfect for anyone who is wanting a sophisticated, yet smooth launcher with all the advanced features you would regularly see on the popular ones. Sure, it does has some bugs, including but not limited to (4.1.6): Margin lines disappear on preview screen when you enter and exit out of full screen, dock can be marked “do not display” but it will still be a toggled overlay, etc; however, bugs are bound to happen, but that’s what makes it have more potential: by fixing them and coming along with new features. This launcher has a lot of potential and I’m proud to see it still being developed and molded. Keep up the good work devs! I look forward to seeing this in its full glory =)

  18. This was my favorite launcher until they pushed out a roll back update. My phone auto updates apps and I didn’t have time to back up my settings. Now most of my home screen and drawer layout is broken. It’s going to take time trying to figure out how to get it functional again. Update: it has returned to the better version and I’ve updated the rating

  19. Simply the best, most configurable, smoothest, and most stable launcher I’ve ever used. Includes all the features I like such as dock gestures and notification badges. You get the behavior you want out of Apex and keep it that way for as long as you’re on Android. I’ve been using it since Android 4.0, and the only times my home screen layout has changed across those OS updates is when I’ve changed it.

  20. I’ve been using this launcher since I switched to android in 2014. I think I briefly tried Nova but preferred Apex. It works great, and I have no major complaints. The inability to customize icons within the app drawer the way you can on the home screen is frustrating, though. I also wish you could pick a single icon to represent a folder, or pin certain apps to the top of the drawer other than the default most used. Also, I swear I have never seen an ad. Not sure what that’s about… Great tho

  21. Brian S dice:

The app looks good and generally performs well but there are a couple issues. unfortunately there is no way to add apps to a folder from within the folder you have to manually go through the app drawer and drag it to the homepage which is unnecessarily slow and inefficient. One of the biggest drawbacks is the backup function does not work so there’s no way to backup and restore your layout that you spent tons of time creating.

  22. Fantastic app, only problem is sometimes the app drawer glitches out if I hit the home button while moving the app drawer (mostly out of habit to hit the home button) and the app drawer will still appear on the screen but I can’t interact with it, but I can move between my home screen and open apps while the app drawer screen overlays (because I have transparency on.) sometimes I have to hard restart my phone, and then sometimes the app drawer is low enough to where I can pull it back down. But if it is all the way up, it’s stuck there. No other issues otherwise. 5* worthy regardless. Phone type is ZTE Zmax Blade

  23. Almost perfect. I’ve used this launcher for around 3 years now total, I had it on my tablet and my old phone and now my new phone. The literal only gripe I’ve ever had with it is that the search bar isn’t an option, it’s always active. With phones being 6+ inches tall nowadays, it is annoying to have to go all the way to the top of your phone to get the notification bar, and if you miss, you pull down that stupid search bar no one uses. And you can’t turn it off! Other then that, great launcher!

  24. I just updated and the search functionality changed. I have the search screen set to a gesture. All I have to do is swipe up to start a search. It used to be that when I did this, the keyboard would pop up and I could immediately start typing. Now it goes to the search screen but the keyboard won’t open until I tap the search bar. This seems small but it ruins the entire experience. I can no longer use this launcher.

  25. I use to like this launcher: simple, clean, flexible. But now they removed the preference to manage screens, and I can’t set my home screen anymore, and it crashes constantly, probably because actions I have bound to gestures are now missing. If they put back missing features I might put back stars. Assuming I haven’t already found something better.

  26. yeryayas dice:

I’ve used this one and a few others in the past. Chose this one this time because it allows hiding and locking apps right out of the box even in the free version. Add in the overall ease of customization, ease of backing up your settings, and the ability to download themes and you’ve got yourself a really nice launcher. Also, it works perfectly on my Galaxy S7. Really don’t have any bad things to say about it.

  27. I like the app as it gives a more User Friendly experience like Android 8; however, I wish one could save the settings to a custom location so that if ever it is uninstalled (to purge nastiness of behaviour) one can restore the appearance that one gave it prior to the uninstall. It make no sense to have a backup & restore feature if one cannot even choose a backup location.

  28. Worst implementation for an app. My review is basing it off a icon pack for Oxygen OS that gives the icons HD for over 8700+ apps. The icons and everything with it I had no issues what so ever. My issue is the launchers that have to be downloaded to apply them to. This one was by far one of the worst ones, flimsy control interfaces even after messing with the advanced settings for placement and animation. Just to create a folder for the icons would take me awhile to combine together.

  29. Mastery 4 dice:

This is my favorite launcher app. Never crashes. Actually can decide how many screen pages I have and can move them. Dock can Many customization options. Can make launcher look almost exactly like my system’s launcher. Able to hide bloatware apps. Free trial + optional ads to gain pro features temporarily. Folders can hold unlimited items even in free version. Problems I have: 1. Too large of a ad in menu panel (shrink it, no need to remove) 2. Minor widget selection errors. (plus a major bug).

  30. Another formerly great app falls to the lure of ads and malware/nagware. I used Apex for years as my “go to” launcher, since it had all the customizations I wanted. The app was recently updated to include a lot of ads, particularly on the completely unnecessary “menu” screen that appears if you happen to tap home twice. Also now getting occasionally nagged to install “Privacy Browser” when I try to launch Chrome. This is NOT okay. I do not want ads or to get nagged to install an unwanted app, when I am actually trying to launch Chrome. It is intrusive and annoying. Makes we wonder what other borderline malicious activities they will add to this launcher. Going to uninstall Apex, and use Nova. Apex has a lot of good features, but the good is offset by the bad (ads and nagware).

  31. Not bad for a launcher, it has many customizations and features, even with non-pro users. BUT, the reason I’m giving this two stars is because the LAG. It takes a long time to start up and is really laggy and buggy. Everytime I start up my phone, it completely freezes and turns black. But with a quick restart, everything is MOSTLY fine, apart from it being SUPER LAGGY. Because of this, I am uninstalling this launcher. Hopefully you fix this in the future.

  32. It is a neat little app but a bit out dated. I have the OnePlus 7 Pro and the Oxygen UI is much better. When you swipe left and expect to see your news and other feeds you can’t because with APEX, it’s a customization of widget that you choose (minimal). Having to download another and yet another app just to have a certain function work like it did with your regular OS isn’t practical. Like for instance the notifications tabs on the top right of the icons. You have to download an add-on app.

  33. This is a nice launcher with a lot of features but, for me, on my S22 Ultra (unlocked) I am unable to create backups. This is a show-stopper for me as I like create a configuration and then use it on different devices. I am receiving an “This action cannot be performed.” error when trying to create a backup. If this can be quickly resolved I’d happily pay for the Pro version.

  34. Ruleaus dice:

My only criticisms are that I can’t change the lock-screen wallpaper, and every app that I don’t want in the drawer has to be hidden in the apex settings. Rather than easily being able to delete the icon from the drawer as you can on the home screen, you have to check a bunch of boxes from the settings. I find that annoying, because I don’t use my drawer as a place to hold a duplicate of all my apps. So, I have to hide almost every app I download.

  35. This has been my longtime launcher for years, I can’t believe I hadn’t left a review yet. Apex is super smooth and full of standard features in their free version, with even more in their paid version. I particularly use the gestures to launch apps automatically. Love the app, keep up the great work.

  36. Edit 1/11/19 — I was so impressed with this launcher on my tablets that I decided to use it on my Galaxy S9+ and I’m so glad I did. The customization options are great and I was able to organize my app drawer into neat little folders. Very happy😊 I actually use this app on my Samsung tablets, not my phones and it is great. Having the swipe up/down feature to access my apps feels just like using my phone, plus I can customize the background of the app drawer. It looks and responds perfectly.

  37. Great except for the features you can’t change which are deal breakers. Normally I swipe up to get my full app menu. Now I get some creepy search menu I have no interest in. No night mode for settings which is jarring to my eyes. I actually really liked my original interface I just wanted to change 1 thing. An update forced an app icon onto my bottom drawer permanently knocking out the app I already had there. This did not solve my problem but created many new ones.

  38. It’s better than the default launcher for me and it’s better than all launchers on the play store in my opinion, it has a lot of options and flexibility when it comes to customization which is good, but I can easily spend hours just costomising due to it being good, The Best part is it includes app lock which is something I need. Also it has a subscription service but it’s not required or pushing in incentives like other programs are and it’s only $6 a year. The ONLY problem it won’t recent app

  39. Overall I have enjoyed using this launcher for the additional customization features and ease of use. I had been using this launcher on my previous for roughly a year, and I just got a new phone and have enjoyed the same experience here. I wasn’t expecting it to, but it was still annoying that everything else from my previous phone switched over except my layout on Apex, but I understand entirely that there’s likely nothing they can do about that

  40. I really like that you can sort apps and folders in a custom order in the app drawer; one thing nova launcher can’t do. But unlike nova there’s no tabs in the app drawer (even though it’s in apex classic?) I guess it’s one or the other? Also you can’t stagger apps on home screen (subgrid positioning, placing app between cells). My only other wish is an option for a-z on the side in the app drawer instead of fast scroll bar, in the vertical layout. But it’s a great app! Devs Plz consider? 💙
