Still mediocre, still problematic updates. They’ve fixed the wish list problem so you can add books to other lists than the default, but it only shows the 30 most recent, by date created. (I use my lists for sorting, so I have way more than 30, and prefer them listed alphabetically). Also, none of my previous collections will sync, so only 1/5 of my library shows up in collection view. Overall, the app is fine for reading, I suppose, but nowhere as good as it used to be.
Needs fixes, quick. 1st the ability to download books from the app needs to ne returned. 2nd Im tired of downloading books that are supposed to have the audible option (the headphones next to it and the “read and listen” listed; only to get the book and the audible option not be there. 3rd it is super hard to search only for books that have the audible option. You can select it as a filter but they still show all books. This app just needs to be over hauled.
While I still like to have a book in my hands and turning the pages, Kindle is convenient, and less bulky than actual books. Also, it’s good to have my school books on Kindle because I can look up a subject or phrase and in no time at all I can find it. I really love having the Kindle book with Audible narration because I can follow along as the narrator reads the book.
Update: They fixed it. I’m happy again. Back to 5 stars. Books download but NOT the companion audio narration for “free read and listen with Kindle Unlimited subscription.” I like listening to audio books while in the gym, driving or doing chores. So it’s so frustrating, that its not working properly. I chatted with customer service for more than 2.5hrs to try to fix the issue.
So, when I got up this morning I saw the app was updated. Everything seemed OK. Just now when I picked it up it showed I was at the start of chapter 1. On the right hand menu I tried to sync it furthest page read only to be told I was at the furthest page read on all my devices. So then I tried syncing it from the left hand menu. And what do you know. It zoomed to the start of chapter 14, which was correct. This is just one of a number of ongoing issues.
It is very convenient and useful as a study tool. However, the touch screen functionality is wonky and irritating often when you can not change the screen to minimize page or place a bookmark. Would rather have a drop-down menu that works the first time then to keep stabbing the display until you get the response/ option you want.
The app was great. Then Google? got involved and now you can’t get books through the app or Amazon app. You have to go through the browser which makes you change your password. So now you can no longer click on the book to download, you have to remember what book you want a type it into the browser. Making me rethink the 9.99 I’m paying for the service.
App continues to crash no matter what I do. The app is updated, I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled several times, restarted my device, and sent feedback with every crash. Not to mention, it takes a very long time to load books from my library. I love the app when it’s working, though! I hope this gets fixed soon. Also, I’m using the Samsung Galaxy S8 tablet if that makes any difference.
Every nice and easy app to use to read ebooks and PDF files. I love the different settings to adjust colors of background and text, the lighting options, text size options and layout options for reading. I REALLY love the HUGE library of books from Amazon. There is something for everyone in there selection at affordable prices everyone can afford. The only thing I don’t like is I haven’t figured out a good way to sort my library just yet. Maybe I just have to work with it more though.
Agree with all the reviewers who say that the app keeps jumping backwards in pages. If I get an alert from another app, go to check it and come back, put my phone down for a sec, or do pretty much anything, sometimes I’m 100 pages back, sometimes it’s 80 pages, it’s not even consistent in how it’s screwing up. Then when I try to sync to my most recent page, that’s never correct either. Sometimes it’s BEHIND where I am when I do the sync! And bookmarks don’t work either!
While I greatly enjoy the books offered, I just have 2 minor issues. The first is that more books need to be better reviewed for errors, as I have seen countless errors in various books. Second, I would like there to be a note on books stating when you last borrowed them. It currently does that with books in the library but I would like that for past borrowed books as well, especially since I read a lot and cannot remember all of the titles. Lol. Other than that, great app.
I used to love using Kindle, and used it for most of my online reading. But several months ago it started always loading the “recommended for you” page, instead of loading the page where I left off. Now it constantly freezes when I open the app and must be restarted. I have sent in numerous reports, but nothing changes. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, requiring me to reload all my books. nothing changed. I’m ready to start looking for a new reading app.
Hrm, I’m fairly new to the Kindle app, and when I first started using it, it seemed a 4 to 5 star app. As of the last week or so, it randomly changes the page font size instead of turning a page with either a swipe or a tap near the edges. I guess there has been an update – some are having problems with glitches. It’s unfortunate, as I do love the availability of content, but I think I’m going to go back to my previous tablet reader. And yes, tried reinstalling and restarting app & tablet.
Kindle unlimited is pointless cuz it doesn’t have any of the books I wanna read. For instance Cassandra Clare series’. And if they do, I sure can’t find them. You can’t search. The whole thing is just confusing as hell. Put audio books and kindle all in one place. And very very inconvenient without in app purchases.
It’s a good reading app with a huge variety of books to read. The actual reading experience is smooth and easy to manage, with some nice changes you can make to your “page” color, font size and shape, and whatnot. Plus, there is the handy bookmark option, which makes it easy to find pages. My personal favorite aspect is the ability to make notes and highlights to any sentences or words. Overall, the Kindle app is handy and easy to use. And free! Any books have to be bought on the Amazon website.
I love this app. But I’m hoping that a low rating will get someone’s attention. The ability to select text needs to be turned off. I am constantly accidentally highlighting text while trying to read. It’s extremely irritating after 100 times of selecting text, highlighting it accidentally, and then undoing it within a span of 1 chapter. Please do something. I know I am not the only one with this constant issue.
I was a hardcore physical book only guy for years, but I eventually broke down and picked up a few titles for the Kindle app on my phone. I have to say, when the Kindle app added dark mode, it was a game changer. I’m able to read comfortably in the dark in bed, and it was just easier for me to read and enjoy. Since then, I’ve used the Kindle app to read dozens of books, and have many more waiting. I’m able to find rare or lesser known titles which has made for an amazing reading experience
The newest update (Nov 7th) has completely broken this app. It takes hours to download a book and attempting to return Kindle Unlimited titles works every 1 out of 10 tries. When it doesn’t work, it crashes the app. I’ve sent tickets to support with absolutely no response. This was not an issue two months ago, when my biggest gripe was having to go to a browser to actually purchase a book. I feel bad for small authors relying on this service.
It seems that syncing with my kindle Paperwhite is not working properly, so if I read a bit on my phone, it doesn’t transfer to the e-reader, even when forcing to sync. Works just fine in reverse. Also, not being able to purchase via the app is annoying as hell. At least add a link to the Amazon app listing when browsing. The e-reader browser is slow and the Amazon app is too distracting.
Overall I like the benefits of kindle. I use it on my Android phone and find navigating a little challenging at times, could be a little easier but I deal with that because the benefits outweigh it. Totally worth it if you like to learn, read, brush up on skills, improve yourself or something else or just want an escape! Something for everyone!
What happened to my streaks? It used to say how many weeks in a row I’ve read. I can only find the new achievements, not what I’ve already done. And WHEN WILL IN APP PURCHASING BE REINSTATED? Also when I tap the right side of the screen to turn the page, a lot of times it goes back a page instead of forward
works exactly like you would hope.. a digital representation of holding a book in your hand. It does provide some added technological perks like fast browsing and page finding. easier to swipe a direction than wet your fingers and flip through the pages. So far, it deserves a 5 star rating, as it allows me to read a book and doesnt turn the txt into hyroglyphs or make it unreadable.
Just installed the app. Tried to find a volume key navigation option and I couldn’t find one. Used the in app chat support & called support using the app and they were no help. 1. If the option for volume key navigation exists it shouldn’t be hard to find. 2. The support provided was the worst I’ve ever experienced. Other than those I bet it’s a great app. But I’m going to go with kobo for now. Edit. Found setting by clicking book, clicking font, clicking more, navigate using volume keys
I mostly read thru text to speech while doing other things or while I am actively reading. App is practically useless for anything like that, has absolutely no control over text to speech, only works through TalkBack, which is… SO frustrating. Getting an actual Kindle does work better for this, but it’s pretty much exactly the same issue, can’t just turn on text to speech/has to be a function of screen reader. A read aloud feature? Why forced to use Audible?
Easy ebook reading and lots of personalization options to make reading enjoyable. Makes finding new books to read too easy and now that you can’t make purchases on the app there’s no more accidental purchases when you want to download samples. The library feature is terrible, no way to organize your kindle books and the most it does is grouping of series.
I absolutely loved Kindle before they stopped offering the instant buy from Amazon. You can’t even download books from the Amazon app anymore- you have to go to the website to order books. Sometimes the Kindle app seems to know where you left off in the sample (before buying) but sometimes it doesn’t, and you have to try to figure out where you were. Other than that, it’s still a great app. I think 3.5 stars would be fair here but I can’t do that, so I rounded down.
I’ve had a Kindle for years. As I’ve gotten older, it’s just easier to hold a digital book. Also libraries are accessible so best of both worlds. I’m not convinced Audible is as good as it ought to be. I need to be able to review something I missed and that is almost impossible to do on Audible. Text to speech on the Kindle rules – the words are right there.
I am on the road quite a lot currently, and being able to carry all my books on a single device is nothing short of fantastic. Kindle is easy to use, easy to maneuver, and, again, all my books in one place is pretty awesome. My only single issue is how it wants to flip pages when I’m flailing at the bottom of the page to try to get my main screen, but it’s a minor thing. Awesome application.
I’ve been a daily Kindle user for years. I’ve lost the ability to read paper books due to a neuromuscular disease, so ebooks are my only option. Kindle was my preferred eReader, and I’ve bought dozens of books thru Amazon over the years. Recent glitches were annoying, sure, but not being able to buy books within the app is a dealbreaker. Guess I’ll spend my money elsewhere.
This last update rendered this app useless… It’s justing sitting here trying to open the content from KU. The cover comes up when I select a title just fine… But then it’s a black screen with a circle loading icon and no text. I can’t even back out to the main menu to try another title. FIX YOUR BUGS… The KU content wasn’t supposed to be impacted by this update… About to return my 2 year subscription and be done with it… Too bad! This was such a good application…
got to be honest Amazon I think you guys should figure out a way to purchase books in the app even though it’s probably more expensive. I use far less books because it’s too confusing to move from this app or the Amazon app to the web page. buy the book then come back to the app. same thing with Audible I would actually use it much more and you guys would actually probably make more money if it wasn’t such a hassle to give you the money 100. all in all I really do love Amazon and Kindle
I will look for alternative apps the moment I don’t feel I have a solid product OR I’m getting advertised to death with in-app offers. Kindle meets me needs. the store is easy to search, the library is functional and makes all the books filterable findable readable. the nuisance of purchasing certain books through Amazon is weird but not impossible. I also loke the many choices of styles, fonts, colors, etc for reading.
I love this app and its ability to sync with my kindle, if I end up held up waiting unexpectedly its nice to be able to pick up where I left off in my book. I also enjoy the insights part of the app that allows you to see reading habits and also has the ability to set a reading goal for the year.
Great app for the avid readers. It does need some kind of sound for those that need noise while reading. I’m thinking some kind of optional background music. UPDATE SCREWED EVERYTHING. Being unable to buy and download from the app was the stupidest update ever. Was a 5 star rating before but now I wish I could give a negative rating. I spent hundreds of dollars on books that disappeared all because amazon was “upset” that google play was taking a small percentage for every book sold.
Love reading my books for a quick read. App is great. However my phone isn’t that great. No decent talk to text app that I can use listening while I work. Text will start and stop at the wrong time and starting it back up is a pain due to the touch sensitivity that makes me want to destroy my phone. But that has nothing to do with the application which is great.
I love the selection of books and how it is organized in your library! The one thing I don’t like Is if I have been reading and I leave the app and then try to reopen it, it will not open and the only way I have found to fix this is by Uninstalling the App and then reinstalling. I do this several times through out the day and it’s kind of annoying. Other then that I love it! 💜🧡🎀💋
I’m hoping the easier brightness control will return ASAP. A much needed upgrade to fixing ebook and audible when they fail to pair up properly would be a time saving step. Maybe ai could be employed and save the customer the 20 minute minimum (often double or longer) it takes to process the integration so we could stop losing this time for each frustrating encounter.
A Dawn of Onyx was absolutely engrossing! I literally read it without being able to put it down once! The characters have excellent growth and development, the setting is beautiful and easily visualized, and the pace of the romance and the story make sense. I am already excited about the next book!
Since last update everything is in portrait mode and I can only put text books in landscape. The library screens and illustrated books won’t follow my tablet’s orientation and there’s no setting to change that. Also I usually read at night on the dimmest setting and now the screen flashes bright every time I interact with it. Please undo these changes or add settings to turn them off, and please keep all settings under settings, or at least in addition to the different floating locations.
I love my Kindle and the app. I use it because my Kindle Oasis is just black and white, and with my poor eye sight when seeking out a new book, I wanna see the cover. I ABSOLUTELY hate that we can no longer buy books through the app if we use an android phone. please fix that…Its miserable having to save, then go back to my Kindle, go through the lists to buy them.
